We would all give many many cookies if we were able to kick people from parties while in WvW. It’s been a long standing desire of us WvWers, and you can’t imagine the love you would garner from this change. :-)

Here is the response given from Devon when asked we we can’t kick offline players:

“That is totally out of my area. I realize it occurs in WvW, but it is related to the tech we use for parties, etc. While I’ll look into it, I can’t say as I have any ability to fix it.”

Basically he’s saying it’s not my problem and someone else’s job to fix it. Apparently the people fixing it are to busy pumping out living story content every 2 weeks. Don’t expect anything to change anytime soon.

Sorry if I sound negative, but after posting about this over 30 times during the last year it’s very disheartening. The things players find very important and frustrate us daily are completly ignored.

Let’s look at the response we got from devon when asked why we don’t have a working group UI in WvW:

“That is totally out of my area. I realize it occurs in WvW, but it is related to the tech we use for parties, etc. While I’ll look into it, I can’t say as I have any ability to fix it.”

Just substitute Parties with Arrow Carts and you have your answer. It now reads:

“That is totally out of my area. I realize it occurs in WvW, but it is related to the tech we use for arrow carts, etc. While I’ll look into it, I can’t say as I have any ability to fix it.”

I would not expect any changes to the LOS on siege, not the way things are now at anet.

QoL problem: Party UI

Just unbelievable…. seriously. It’s not the left hand not knowing what the right hand is doing…. the left hand was chopped off, sent via UPS to a small village in China and eaten by a goat.

How can the B-A-S-I-C ability to organize and manage groups come down to:

“Ya I heard about it but it’s someone else’s job to fix it for the last year.”

It would be laughable if I didn’t have to deal with frustration of MAKING A GROUP on a daily basis.

"Need" needs to stop

yeah, you saw it here first time. “Need” needs to stop. I roam arround the GW2 forums, encountering nice and raging threads about so many many things in GW2. Then I come to the WvW boarder lands… I mean sub forums. And I see imidiatly 3 or 4 “need” posts, where the author has figured it all out.

I agree some things are unrealistic that people want changed. But some things are totally justified. Things like:

- We NEED to have a functioning group UI in WvW that works the same as the Group UI in any PvE zone.

- We NEED to have a overhaul of the Commander and Squad system to make private/guild only squads and have better functions overall for commanders.

- We NEED to have the AC LOS exploit addressed.

I’m sure there are more, but these are things that we’ve been asking for since the game launched. When it comes to balancing abilites, that’s a little tricky. But basic grouping functions and expoits need to be addressed like 6 months ago.

It’s a simple fix: add a LOS check, and it should have been fixed months ago.

There is a lot of things that should have been fixed or updated by now. Anet has completely lost touch with what WvW players want addressed and what they are spending their resources on.

We are frustrated by AC exploits, non-working group UI and completely useless commander and squad system that has no functions and doesn’t allow for private / guild only squads.

Instead we get more mastery lines and “fluff” content. The things that frustrate players on a daily basis have been ignored for a year now.

The grouping system in GW2 is the worst I’ve seen in the last 6 years playing MMO’s. They did so many things right in GW2 and totally pooched on the grouping systems. So much feedback on it and we just keep getting the standard reply of:

“We plan to address the grouping systems but it involves many departments and will take time to implement”

They can pump out living story every 2 weeks and add new progression systems but can’t even fix the group UI in WvW to match the one that works in PvE. A working and functional grouping system should have been in AT LAUNCH.

The entire approuch to the grouping system is clunky, frustrating and leaves you feeling like someone kicked you in the crotch. Completely perplexed how a decent grouping system wasn’t in at release, and how it could go on a year with no significant changes.

I’m suprised at some of the features the left out as well. GW2 has done so many things right, I’m completely perplexed at the social grouping systems currently in the game. It’s simply hard to group, organize and communicate easily and efficiently in Gw2.

They sure have the resources to pump out new living story content every two weeks, but we still deal with an non functioning group ui in WvW and the inability to make private guild squads for events.

There is a search function in the message boards. There has been a better post than this about this topic already.

There have actually been HUNDREDS of posts covering the same suggestions on this thread. Since BW1 we’ve been advocating for a better grouping system. Over the last year I’ve seen some fantastic suggestions and feedbacks… none of which have been acknowledged. All we’ve seen is Devon Carter post that he agrees the commander and squad system lacks functionality and would be improved “sometime in the future”.

They need a functional and flexible Commander and Squad system that can be used by all players and guilds. You need to be able to flag the pin public or private/guild to be used for guild events or specific tasks.. Gw2 simply has the worst grouping system I’ve seen in the last 6 years of MMO releases.

We still don’t have a working group UI in WvW, all we can do is “report”. I can just imagine how long it will be until we have a functional C&S system. IMO they completely dropped the ball on this and are well past the “reasonable” time to fix it.

The grouping system is not under the WvW dev’s control as he’s already stated. I assume the people who would improve this function are the same people who’ve been making a LFG tool for the better part of a year which is why you’ve seen zero advancements. I do agree that this NEEEEEDS to happen as soon as yesterday however I always see the hate/blame directed towards the WvW team when it’s not their job.

To a degree… yes. But pressure and priority can be applied via the WvW lead and collectively made a focus by Anet in general. I personally don’t feel that’s been done. You can’t do everything at once, but leaving the grouping system in WvW this way for a year without basic functionality is a mystery.

Social grouping in a MMO is a big part of the game, and we can’t currently do it easily or effectively in WvW.

I’ve been a persistent advocate of a better grouping system since BW1. The group UI still does not work in WvW. The commander and squad grouping system is completely useless for the guilds that like creating private havoc forces to stay under the 25 person limit. There is no in game option for private/guild squads.

There has been a ton of suggestions and feedback from many people requesting that grouping systems be given a priority in WvW before “new” content and mastery lines. This feedback as been ongoing since BW1. Whatever resources were available to WvW devs should have been used to create a flexible and functional system allowing players to group and organize in a modern day MMO. It’s one of the most frustrating things for our guild in WvW.

I feel a year is a reasonable time to address one of the fundamental features of a MMO – the ability to group and organize players easily. This is my last thread on this issue and I hope it gets changed one day… the expiry date is well overdue.

In all honesty, they can add whatever they want as far as map is concerned, It still won’t change the fact that I’ll be playing ESO if the PvP is remotely better. By better I mean it just has to be functional.

Functional like having a group UI that works in WvW? Functional like having a grouping system that meets the need of ALL players and guilds?

There seems to be a HUGE difference in what players think is important and what Anet thinks we want. Enough with the new content and mastery lines while we still are dealing broken UI and inflexible C&S grouping systems.

How can the inability to organize properly in WvW not be the primary focus at this time?

Honestly….

I just want commanders to be able to have a 20 man party capability (raid). The lack of interface for a “Squad” is making me

I just want to be able to run with multiple guild groups using a C&S type system and not have an additional 40 people join us and then complain because we’re not “leading” the zone right.

It’s pretty much impossible to run a havoc/ambush force under 25 people with a commander pin up. We have one system in the game to group over 5 people and many guilds won’t use it because it’s a headache. They need a way to form a private/guild squad.

New content is great…. but not until they fix BASIC issues since release. Fixing the group UI to work in WvW as it does in any PVE Zone. Giving us a flexible commander and squad system that can be used for either public or private/guild events with more tools for commanders.

That should be the #1 priority before adding any “new” content.

When they can’t even fix this after 11 months, what does that say about the future of WvW? :/

To me it says that ArenaNet places WvW on the bottom of the totem pole. They can pump living story content out every 2 weeks and add lots of progression and carrots for the PvE players.

Unless a higher priority and more resources are given to the WvW team, I don’t see much changing. I can understand new content taking time…. but I cannot understand how we don’t have any basic grouping systems working after a year.

The best grouping system I’ve ever used to organize multiple groups for large scale PvP was the “Warband” system used in Warhammer Online. I’m not saying they need to copy it, but they need to have a flexible system with lots of functionality like the Warband system had.

Public, Private or guild only… whatever players needed it for. You could make assistents to invite, manage groups and take pressure of the leader/commander so they could just lead. This is what is needed in GW2.

Your options available also change depending on the proximity of the player you are selecting.

If a player is in cliprange and you can target him. This will bring up a nameplate with some right-click options. If a player is not in targetable range you are screwed and have to use /slash commands for everything and reform groups to remove offline players.

What’s really fun is when someone sends a tell asking for invite and they have those ACSII characters in thier name. YOU try manualling inviting a guy named Æunbê using /invite. If we had working right-click options in WvW that we do in every single PvE zone… we could simply right-click on Æunbêa’s name and invite through the UI, chat window or from tells.

Having BASIC grouping functions not working after almost a year is a crime. With all the living story content pumped out every 2 weeks there is simply no plausible reason this shouldn’t have been addressed by now.

Absolutely no in game communication between enemies in PvP. 95% of the time it comes down to someone trolling or being ignorant. Anything to reduce harassment is a good thing in my books.

This is the type of upgrade to the system we will likely be making, but it is not a short-term project. We feel commanders aren’t getting enough mileage out of the system as it is now and we’d like to make it much, much more robust.

I’m curious Devon if you’ve considered having a private/guild ability to the C&S system so players and guilds can form forces with some control over numbers to avoid orange swords as well as allow for specialty forces and guild events.

I’ve seen in mentioned about making more tools for commanders and more functionality, but nothing about allowing guild/private squads?

It should be given higher priority as its a huge part of end game for people without the amount of time needed to invest in the living story.

I find it hard to imagine that fixing the group UI in WvW to work like the group UI in PvE takes more resources than a living story release.

I find it hard to imagine that upgrading the C&S system with decent tools and allowing public/private squads takes more resources than the content for a living story release.

Obviously Anet is not as frustrated or does not feel as strongly about the abysmal grouping systems in GW2. It would not have gone on this long if they did.

Upcoming changes for Sept if we are really lucky!!!!

They are removing the Borderlands lake and adding something else. Maybe orb related.

They might bring orbs back before the end of Sept.

Two new masteries. Golem mastery and something else festive!

It comes to what players think are priorities and what dev’s think are priorities. Those things above are on the bottom of my list. A functional grouping system that meets the needs of ALL play styles is first for most players. I don’t know how the players can say this any clearer.

The C&S system and non-working group UI in WvW is the worst system I’ve seen in the last 6 years of MMO playing.

This should be the #1 priority to get changed before “new content”.

its supposed to be a quick simple feature, i know they are probably working on major updates, but still….

At a certain point a “reasonable” time becomes ridiculous. I’d give them a little leeway with the commander and squad revamp as long as it’s done right. By done right I mean a system that’s flexible to work with all players and guild playstyles…. allowing public and private squads.

I think the “reasonable” time has passed on the group UI functions. There is no way that being unable to invite players, kick offline players or manage groups through the UI should have been left this long. They had a working group UI in any PvE zone at release but apparently making in work in WvW is not as important.

I feel like the commander tag is far from its full potential, just thought id post a few suggestions for improvement.

1. Commander Utility skills/Elite skill – This would make playing as a commander a much more defined role, If commanders gain access to an support skills for a larger group of people than a typical boon/heal skill. Possibly being able to place an AoE ring that buffs squad members inside it. It would make it easier to highlight exactly where to defend and rewards players for being in squads and following orders.

2. Map markers for squad members. Being able to place multiple waypoints on the map for squads to follow again makes for much more strategic gameplay.

3. A secondary role costing gold or Commanders can grant the icon to a single player for a set time(General? Corporal? Captain?) Seeing as WvW is essentially a war having more visible ranks allows servers to strategies and divide the army into different roles. Say commanders lead the major forces while their assistant take on tasks assigned to them. This also means that instead of two people running a commander tag to divide their forces.

I believe that many of the things you suggested have been mentioned many, many times on these forums. They have known since BW1 that we’re not satisfied with the grouping systems in GW2, but doesn’t appear to be a priority at this time.

Whatever system or changes they come up with need to be flexible to meet ALL players and guilds play styles. We need to be able to form forces for public or closed private/guild functions. Hopefully when they get around to making changes, it’s changes the PLAYERS actually want.

I am thinking late October. That is my guess.

I wish I was as optimistic as you Urrid. But after posting about this issue since BW1 it’s hard NOT to be a pessimist. When the game went live I figured they’d at least fix the group UI bugs in 3 months or so. After 3 months I figured it would never go past 6 months.

Almost a year later…. I really have no idea. I can understand revamping the commander and squad system might take some time…. but fixing the group UI to match the one they already have in any PvE zone. How could that take a year?

I’m really hoping this situation doesn’t turn into a 20 page thread that gets locked and deleted after we’re advised to post in a new thread about the “perceived” shortcomings of the WvWvW grouping system.

I dunno what more you can say about it. The group UI does not work in WvW, the Commander and Squad system is completely useless for how some guilds and players enjoy WvWing. It’s been said a million times since release on these forums….

They are aware of how we feel, they acknowledged it…. that means:

A) Think the current system is fine, and not a priority to them.
B) Don’t have the resources or time to do it anytime soon, not a priority for them.
C) Doesn’t help generate revenue at the online store, so not a priority for them.

Any way you look at it, it’s not a priority to them. If it was we wouldn’t still have a broken group UI and a useless commander and squad system a year after release.

BWE2: fixed.

It already works in ANY PvE zone…. it’s not like they have to make something from scratch. Just make the group options work in WvW.

Last patch before the 1 year anniversary and we still don’t have a functioning group UI in WvW. Aside from the culling change I can’t get excited about any changes they have made while we still aren’t able to form and manage groups/squads properly in WvW.

Logging in and dealing with the horrible squad system and group bugs takes away from any of the “fluff content” they add.

No new content IMO until they put the resources into fixing basic UI group functions in WvW. As well has revamping the Commander & Squad system into something flexible that can be used for all players and guilds to coordinate. Public, Private or guild only options as well as enhanced tools to coordinate squads are sorely needed before new “fluff” content.

Its not like every other recent game has had a functioning squad style system on release. They really are inventing something totally new and original here so it takes time… lol

Actually…. I CAN’T think of any MMO’s I’ve played in the last few years that didn’t have a functioning squad/raid system at release that worked for whatever players need.

We’re not even asking for something new and original. GW2 already has a group UI system that works in any PvE zone…. but NOT in WvW. At what point after launch does it become “to long” to fix basic functions?

But I do find it amusing that Anet seem to avoid any threads with the commander tag issue.

Devon did mention that he felt the current C&S system lacked functionality and would be changed at some point. My concerns are what changes (player wants vs Dev team wants) and how long before they are addressed.

Every new WvW content they add while leaving basic grouping functions broken tells me they don’t think it’s important enough to address right away. IMO they couldn’t be more wrong.

Personally, I’m willing to give the WvW krewe the benefit of the doubt. Remember, they’ve probably invested more time in this than you have, and as passionate as you may be about the state of WvW, these guys know it far more intimately.

I guess I’m a little disappointed that some of these things were not in at launch. GW2 did so many things right but seem to ignore basic group functions in WvW. Stuff I thought they would address soon after launch is still unchanged almost a year later.

How can the complete lack of UI group functions have gone on this long? Social grouping in a modern MMO should be easy….. it’s nothing but frustrating atm.

UI fixes, I do more than report!

Commander communication, party communication tools.

Remove glitched doors, multi-monitor AC “capability” features.

Find ways to make the game competitive with high wvw population servers taking on low wvw population servers.

Address the wxp zerg train.

New content after that would be nice, but optional.

UI and C&S system definately need fixed first. I feel the same way about new content, it’s nice to have but I could care less until they fix the grouping system.

Was pleased to see Devon’s response on the general commander issue in that while it is not something they already have going, that they will be soliciting ideas from the community on what we want to see when they are so I guess just hold on to those ideas for now. This forum is full of great ones on the subject so should not be any problem getting feedback from us when it is time.

No problem getting feedback… we’ve been posting enough of it! Until I see more detail of HOW they are changing the C&S system, I will continue to be annoyin….. erm continue posting.

I left awhile back due to the complete lack of support for WvW, has anything changed?

There seems to be a difference in priority from what players want and what content we are getting. Players want to see an upgraded C&S system that’s flexible enough to be used for public and private squads. We’d like to see better tools for the C&S system as well as WORKING UI functions for basic things like inviting and managing groups.

Proper in-game tools for grouping and organizing should be the focus before adding new content and mastery lines.

7. How about DAOC style killspam? Just throwing that out there. I know a lot of people that loved it. At the end of the day we all want to be the hero!

Player pride is going to take a hit when it flashes across the screen:

“Bamby has killed Darth Killah”

And then I’ll prance off.

As long as they have a filter to turn on/off deathspam….. I have no issues with it!

Maybe it would go faster if you lot werent spending all your time creating new S/TPvP and loads of new (and boring!) content for PvE?

Not the same people working on those things though.

They must have team lead meetings…. we need devon to get angry and hulk up during a meeting and DEMAND they give us more resources to address the group UI and Commander and Squad issues in WvW!

WvW is the lowest on the totem pole for bug fixes.

I’m not sure if it’s a bug fix as opposed to some kind of technical issue with having 3 separate player databases on the same map. I know dead players on the enemy realm can invite you to a party…. so perhaps most of the functions are disabled to prevent cross server confusion. I really dunno… I don’t remember any devs or posts from Anet even mentioning no group UI functions in WvW.

What ever the issue is, they need to prioritize the resources and fix it.

Its not just your 40+ player guild but the 3.2 million GW2 player base that agrees.

I don’t know anyone who is against having a grouping system that can be used for public squads and private / guild squads. Give us flexible tools and let the players and guilds decide what works best for them.

We’ve ran 2-3 guild groups using the Commander and Squad system and 2-3 guild groups separately with a “bullseye” to mark a driver. By far the the C&S system was far more effective for keeping the groups together and organized. The only problem is our 2-3 groups become 7-8 groups with people expecting you to lead, sending tells and telling you to turn the pin off because you are “not leading properly”.

As effective as the C&S system is for multiple groups, it’s not worth the hassle to turn it on when you enjoying running havoc or ambush forces of 2-3 groups. They need to allow commanders to hide the pin and still retain all the functions of a squad. Nothing new here…. and still waiting for a flexible grouping system that ALL players and guilds can use.

Yet ANOTHER post requesting private/guild squads. Completely agree that the C&S system needs to be upgraded to be flagged Private or Public. Private squads work the same as public squads but the pin can be hidden to everyone NOT currently in the squad.

Now guilds or alliances can form public or private squads as needed. This is nothing that hasn’t been suggested since before the game went live… please make it happen!
