I’ve just seen 3 recent posts regarding WvW changes, commander changes and comments on the recent WvW blog…. ALL moved to the general suggestions forums. They were quickly knocked back serveral pages with new PvE requests.

How are suggestion forums used by the devs? Does a moderator browse the suggestion forums and send relevant suggestions to each dev department? Are they sorted in any way?

Are WvW devs are expected to browse/search through 15 pages of PvE suggestions to get one single WvW suggestion? Does the left hand know what the right hand is doing? Do the WvW suggestions even make it to anyone in the WvW department?

We need a sub forum in WvW for suggestions so we know that a WvW dev is actually getting our feedback. Right now I don’t see that happening with your current system.

ANet “could” have created more ways to better organize players… if their intent was to focus on the casual gamer, without providing stronger in game mechanics, on some level they failed. Sure players can easily follow the zerg… but often, the zerg does not talk back to them…or from what I’ve seen, many Commanders don’t talk in Squad nor Map/Team chat…nor do they have lieutenants that help communicate to the rest of map. It’s Server VOIP or nothing. To me, that is NOT friendly towards the casual players.

Completely agree. In their goal to include casual players they created an all or nothing system for every player. Either you run a 5 man or join the zerg. Anything else is difficult to do, requires 3rd party voice programs and simply feels clunky and unfinished.

Many of the people playing Gw2 for WvW are experienced players from similar open world PvP games. There is simply no tools in the game for those players and guilds to organize the way they enjoy.

Anything from what we have is an improvement. But what if you like running with 3-4 groups and DON’T want to be a commander. You don’t want the responsibility of leading a massive zerg and inviting every single player in the zone to your pin?

We have no in game system for creating forces over 5 people unless we want to be a zerg magnet. They need to upgrade the grouping system to allow all sized forces with some control over the numbers in each force.

Much improvement is needed.

Aoe is capped at 5 due to technical reasons, so they won’t be changing that.

I would have no problem seeing the AOE cap moved to 10 allies/enemies. A smaller force could defeat a larger force (not a zerg though) with a slightly higher cap limit.

I’m also not saying to kill the zerg… the Commander pin/ball zerg strategy works… but create incentives for the non-zerg gamers too. Those that run the smaller raid groups striking camps timing it for the flips for score… those that wait patiently for dolyaks to leave a camp to score extra points for their side, those that bait out enemy players to kill, tagging towers, or flash capping towers, cutting off enemy reinforcements from the enemy zergs and major engagements… there’s a lot of fun to be had for these gamers too… and based on ANet, they seem to want to put some emphasis on these guys as well.

I agree Azylynne, more support needed for non zerg forces. When your zerg is vastly outnumbered by the other server’s zerg you have two choices.

- Switch to another map
- Split up your zerg and hit multiple targets at once.

The first option is easy, the second option more difficult as we don’t have the in game tools to create multiple forces of say 15-20 people. I’d love to see a “raiding party” grouping system of 15-20 players. They could have a different color icon, and commanders can still use the C&S system for the large forces.

People zerg simply because there is NO other way in game to group or coordinate more than 5 people except with a commander pin. If they had a way for people to coordinate in game better there would be more medium size forces on the battlefield.

Private commander with UI for guild should of been in at start of game and was all told to them. Along with many other things which have seen been a major fail.

If true its about time.

This has been suggested a TON of times by different players since BWE’s. They don’t even have to make major changes…. allowing commander to hide the pin to anyone not in the squad AND still retain all the functions of a squad would be huge.

It would basically give guilds and players the flexibility to use the C&S system for any situation without taking away from those commanders that are actually leading the zone.

Smaller multi group havoc forces need a better way to coordinate then simply running separate groups, marking a “driver” and having to use 3rd party voice to communicate.

Issue with commanders...

You guys realize that some commanders with pins aren’t actually trying to lead? They are simply using the ONLY in game system to coordinate multiple groups or guild groups together.

I’ve often seen a Commander pin for multiple guild groups roaming around and most likely in their own voice server. People flock to the pin then complain when the commander is not communicating. Until we have a better system to run private guild squads… we will continue to have “bad” commanders.

If we actually had a grouping system for multiple groups to coordinate (without putting a pin up that invites everyone in the zone to run with you) it would make GW2 more enjoyable for a lot of people.

Imagine how much more effective two groups could be in WvW if they were able to use a “private” commander and squad system. Visual icon, dedicated chat channel, pings and draw marks both groups could see on the mini map. Multiple groups running together could be much more effective without taking away from a Commander who is actually leading the zerg and zone.

Running multiple groups together, using a target mark on allies and 3rd party voice software is not my idea of a “good” way to coordinate multiple groups together atm.

11. There is no commander icon viewable by guild members only. If you want your entire guild to know where you are, you have to go through a massive process because you can’t turn your hat on. It would only confuse the issue on the map. It’s called guild wars, can’t we have guild commanders?

We find this frustrating the most, no way for our guild to organize havoc squads without inviting everyone in the zone to us. Trying to make a fast moving hit and run squad and stay under the 25 person orange sword limit? Impossible to do in game with the current grouping mechanics.

No that means that there will be Commander upgrade throught wxp with:
50wxp points – 1% dmg to guards
100wxp points – 2% dmg to guards
etc

Ugh…. I hope not. This is a social game and we need tools to allow us to group and organize for our social networks. Just do a search and read the suggestions for commander and Squads. Some great feedback and idea’s, many different people asking for the same things.

In that blog above it was noted that the commander and squad system was not up to par, and the devs acknowleged it. There have been some fantastic suggestions on how to improve the C&S system, but many have been moved to the suggestion forums and lost beneath the mass pve suggestions.

I urge the devs to read over the many suggestions about the C&S that have been posted since release. Foremost there has been many people asking for a “guild commander” or “private squad” system where guilds and alliances can form private events without having a zerg flock to the pin.

Guilds and players have many different ideas of what is “fun” to them. But giving them two options to organize is not enough. A grouping system should be flexible to customize to all player and guild styles.

It’s really very easy… a simple change can do wonders. Allowing commanders to “hide” the pin and STILL retain all the functions of a squad opens an entire new dynamic.

Instead of having just 5 man groups or giant zergs running around, you now can make forces of all sizes. You could actually keep a squad under the 25 person limit to try and prevent orange swords. You would have more multiple size forces spread all over the map. Guilds and alliances can actually have squads for private events now.

I understand that arenanet wanted to have commanders as public only to make it more accessible for the casual WvW player. Implementing private/public squads should not take away from this. Every game I’ve played with this type of large scale PvP, there was almost always a public squad/warband/battlegroup running as well as private forces.

A flexible in-game grouping system for more than 5 people is needed, allowing private squads would solve this. Give us the tools for guilds and players to use, but let them form it the way that works best for them.

Just give us a FLEXIBLE grouping system we can set up the way we need. Right now you only have the tools to 5 man it or zerg. Let us form any size squads with some control over numbers and configuration. Commander and Squad needs a private option for guild squads or alliance members.

Major upgrade to their grouping system is sorely needed. Commander & Squad is a poor system in it’s current form. No flexibility for guilds and players to configure forces the way they enjoy. Guild or private squad system is a must.

at this point, why even bother bringing this up? i think 8 months of silence(see: failure) from anet on this means it won’t happen

I guess the same reason people buy lottery tickets, chances of winning are slim, yet there is always a chance. A chance a dev might actually read this and come to the same conclusion that hundreds of people that posted on this forums did. The grouping system in GW2 for more than 5 people is horrible and completely inflexible for what players want.

I concur, a WvW suggestion subforum is needed. I see tons of great WvW related suggestion moved to the general suggestion forums. Then those WvW suggestions are sweep away by the massive PvE suggestions.

WvW players are not feeling heard. When good suggestions are posted in the WvW forum it’s simply moved and forgotten.

Dear A-net,

Why, after all this time, can I still not kick offline people from my party while in WvW?

Why, can I not invite guildies from Guild Panel while in WvW?

Why, can I not right-click on someone in the chat box OR Guild Panel and whisper them while in WvW?

and while I’m asking… why does the Guild Panel NOT specify what borderland my guildmates are fighting in?

This is one of the biggest gripes…. Why don’t we get the same options in WvW that we get in ANY other PvE area?!

Unbelievable that this hasn’t been addressed. I really don’t enjoy having to manually invite players with bizarre names filled with ASCII characters in WvW. Or having to reform a group 5-10 times because we can’t remove an offline party member.

This is a really easy solution.

If we had another system for more that 5 people to group that isn’t a public zerg…. we’d have more medium size forces on the battlefield.

They need a /private option for the commander system. A way to hide the commander pin AND still retain the functions of a squad. Now guilds and players could do private events or make specialty squads and spread the fighting over the battlefield more.

Perhaps arenanet thinks that doing this would prevent the casual PvE player from being able to group, but that’s wrong. Every single game I’ve played that had this type of large scale PvP there was always some kind of public commander or warband running as well as private squads/warbands.

There is simply no option BUT to zerg until they add more flexible multiple grouping systems.

My biggest gripes… ones that can be fixed with minimal dev resources.

Give us the same right-click options in WvW that we have in ANY PvE area.

- Allow us to invite players to party from chat window instead of manually trying to type a bizarre multi-character ASCII name. Always fun trying to type while in combat!

- Allow us to remove offline party members in WvW. Nothing more fun then having to reform a group 5-10 times a night because people forget to leave group before logging off.

Basically everything we can do in a PvE area…

Very easy to fix and used in other MMO’s successfully.

- Section takes 5-10% damage
- Certain number of enemies are in the area.

Waypoint is contested if one or both conditions are activated. No more single player tagging.

The entire grouping and UI system needs a major upgrade. This is a social game with an inadequate social system UI.

- Commander/squad, guild and party members dots should all have unique colors.

- Should have the same right click UI options in WvW that we have in ANY PvE zone. Another patch and we still have to reform the group every time someone logs without leaving the party first. Still have to manually invite party members with a /slash command (if they are not in range to invite through nameplate).

- Still no way to make private squads to create medium sized or guild only squads.

Perhaps we can pull a few devs away from creating new gem store items and create an adequate grouping system with UI support first?

Dolyak Cannons!

Make this seige a 2 or 3 person team. One person controls and “deploys” the siege, a second person loads and fires.

- Siege Dolyaks are slow moving. (require constant cover support)
- Siege Dolyaks must “deploy” stabilizers before they can fire. 10 seconds channeled.
- Siege Dolyaks must “store” stabilizers before the can move from a deployed position. 10 seconds channeled.
- Ammo for cannon uses 5 supply each shot.

Have a nice mobile artillery, but takes awhile to move, deploy and costly to fire so they don’t get out of hand or OP’d. Could also only be built at border waypoints and have to be moved into the battlefield.

I would sacrifice many things to the gods to get something other than “-Report” to show up in the right click list.

Its an incredibly common occurrence that someone logs off without remembering to leave party in WvW, leaving us stuck with them. We have to decide to reform, or deal with it, or have someone step to LA to boot quickly. Lame.

Completely agree. A little Dev effort is needed here to resolve a extremely annoying mechanic in WvW.

This is by far the most annoying thing about WvW to me. Interestingly enough, the right click menu does function properly if the player’s portrait in the party frame is visible… that is, if the player is present on the same map as you and online, you can still interact with their party frame as normal. However, when someone is on the same map as you and online the kick option isn’t nearly as useful as when they are no longer active and you need space in your party.

Yes, you can target a ally then use the options from the frame, but can’t right click the chat window name, guild ui or friend UI to do any regular options. This works flawlessly in any PvE zone just not in WvW. I’m just trying to understand if there is a technical reason for this or they simply haven’t addressed it.

For an online, multiplayer game this makes the multiplayer and social aspect needlessly difficult..

And frustrating. I mean shouldn’t it be easy in a social MMO to be able to do basic things like invite people or manage groups. I can’t imagine anyone out there enjoys having to disband and reform a group 5 times a night because someone forgot to leave the party before they logged out.

I’m just curious if there is some kind of coding or technical reason why we don’t have the same UI party options in WvW that we do in PvE zones? Currently the only right-click UI party option we have in WvW is “report”.

PvE party options available through the UI.

- invite [name] – invite a player to join your party.
- join [name] – request to join a player’s party.
- leave – leave your current party.
- kick [name] – vote to kick party member (requires two votes).
- whisper – send a tell.
- mail- mail player.
- report – report name violation.

The worst missing options are the “kick” and “invite” options for WvW parties. Having to reform a group 10 times a night because someone logged out and forgot to leave the group first is frustrating. So is trying to invite someone by manually typing a name when you can simply “right-click invite” anywhere else.

we really understand your frustration with the missing option to report hackers/exploiters ingame and it will be forwarded to the team.

Perhaps you could forward our frustration for not having any other options through the UI while in WvW? Being able to remove offline party members, invite a person to a group, send tells or mail someone. Basically all the party options we have in a PvE zone that are not available while in a WvW zone.

This is extremely annoying to reform a group 10 times a night because someone logged out and forgot to leave the party first.

For last 6 updates I wrote into forum this question: will there be better grouping system? Party of 5 or invisible squad system is not enought.
But seems like 15 minute instanced PvE mission are important than grouping in MMO.

I posted so many times since BW1 about the inferior grouping systems, even linked other peoples suggestions in a massive feedback thread. At a certain point it seemed pointless. We seemed to be funneled into zergs and that’s they way they want it.

It’s like ordering a coffee… you are forced to get a small (5 man) or extra large (commander & zerg) coffee. If you want to order a medium coffee then you are out of luck….. even if all your friends and guild mates like medium coffees. Why not have all sizes and let the players decide what works for them?

Using any combination of that mechanic allows some dynamics in WvW and only stops waypoint porting if a significant threat is pending. IMO you should NOT be able to port to a contested waypoint… PERIOD. Half the fun is cutting off enemies trying to get into a keep/tower to defend it.

Nice update Anet. But I wonder about these: better squad system and better commander system.
If I remember correctly, some updates to commander were announced few months ago.

The dragons are unable to group properly. They lack the ability to invite each other, send tells or remove offline dragons through the UI while in WvW… they can only report each other. They also lack the ability to make “private” dragon squads when they pin up. All the random dragons flock to the commander pin when the dragons try and do a guild only event and they get frustrated.

The lack of support and focus for basic functions in WvW has driven the dragons away.

And once again this WvW topic was moved to the suggestions thread where it can get lost in the spam suggestions about new “backpacks” or other frivolous suggestions.

It may be a suggestion, but it’s not gonna reach the people focused on WvW who don’t browse the mostly PvE suggestions.

I don’t understand why we can’t have the same UI party options in WvW that we do in ANY PvE zone. Basic things in WvW like inviting people to a group, removing offline people and sending people a tell.

This far past launch and they haven’t even fixed stuff people noticed in BW1?

This pretty much sums up my frustration. Obviously the code exists, it’s nothing ground breaking..I just don’t understand why they can’t implent it in WvWvW?

The code does exist but WvW seems to be on the bottom of the dev priority list. I don’t understand how basic functions like inviting, sending a tell and removing people through the UI don’t work in WvW. This far past release it really shows the support for WvW….

This has been suggested to many times to count. Not saying it’s not a good idea, but it’s falling on deaf ears after being ignored the first 1000 times suggested since BW1. IMO GW2 has the LEAST flexible grouping system I’ve used in the last 6 years of playing MMO’s. There is so many little things that could improve it.

Foremost being the ability to hide that commander pin AND still retain all the functions of a squad. This way it could be used for guild or private squads and only those within the squad see the pin.

Sure hope they put a little focus on GW2 grouping systems… they are not up to par atm.

Social grouping and interaction are a big part of MMO’s…. and we are lacking a lot of the tools to do that atm in GW2. The ability to organize and manage guilds properly and the ability to group up the way that players enjoy. Having either a 5 person group or a commander with zerg are horrible options when it comes to organizing…. a more flexible grouping system is needed.

I see a lot of posts about guild management being put up… i think these are some good ideas here to work with … so i am bumping this to get a little loving

I’ve been bumping and suggesting some of this stuff since BW1. I’ve pretty much given up trying at this point, they obviously have a process for content and changes and player feedback/suggestions seems to make little difference.

They will do what they do…

Do a search… about a zillion posts asking for this. I remember people suggesting back in BW1 about this feature. Guild system and the current grouping systems (commander and private/guild squads) need attention from the devs.

The inability to group the way we want and run a guild easily is frustrating right now.

Not suprising… a decent social and grouping system seems to be at the bottom of the “to do” list. The entire commander and squad system is inadequate for most players.

The commander icon needs an overhaul granted, maybe some different colours where only guild can see, possibly an option for players to actually blockout commander’s they don’t like. But it’s possibly far down Anet’s priority list.

Yeah it seems what many players think is important, like a flexible grouping system for guilds and medium/private squads, isn’t even on the Dev’s radar.

No problem with following commanders in JQ. Maybe because JQ has their own public TS channel.

JQ does a good job supporting commanders. I’m just a little disappointed in the lack of support for those guilds (like ours) that prefer small-medium size havoc forces. When we use the commander and squad system to coordinate better, it distracts or takes away from those JQ commanders that are leading the zone. I just wish they had a guild commander or way of making a squad without showing the pin for us to coordinate better.

Running together in separate 5 person groups, marking one person who’s leading and using a 3rd party voice program is not an adequate substitution for a private squad.
