Okay, thanks for the reasoning behind this. Glad I’m not imagining things…
Hey,
I’ve been playing a Ranger for a bit in PvP and have noticed that often a Thief targets and hunts me down, ignoring everyone and everything else.
Is there a particular reason for this or just bad luck?
Will the nerfs introduced to offset the strength of Dhuumfire be reversed, now that Dhuumfire will be changed?
(This is Hot-Join)
Something that I’ve been wondering since the very first match… When the match is over and the results are displayed – people still do their most to kill my character, while I just stand there.
Why?
I usually just log into the next match. Or is this “not done”?
A bit puzzled…
Alright, thanks, sound advice. I’ll get my feet wet in solo first then.
Rewards or leaderboard are secondary to me, if that. I’m looking for fun matches.
So I’ve been playing sPVP for a couple of weeks now… I’ve only done Hot-Join so far and reached Rank 26 today. Now… I’m certainly not a very good player, but I know the maps at least.
And I am getting more and more annoyed about Hot-Join, main offenders are the frequent leavers and team-switchers, leading to many 3v5 or 5v7. Also I find teams with more than 5 players lead to zerking.
I would like to try one of the Queues now, but… from what I have read here over the last several days it seems Team Queue would be the overall better experience, even if I have no pre-made team. Am I reading this correctly or should I do solo (which one would think to be the right thing…)?
3v5 again
spirit rangers
5 million clones
2 thieves ganging up
zerking
3v5 again
arghs…
;) Alright I feel better now, all is vain
Back to the game.
Thanks for the pointers!
I esp. like the get-in-their-face one. I swear one time I tried it, I saw the terror in the Mesmer’s eyes
Still, very difficult, but then the others that steam-rolled me were a R56 and someone who got help from a Ranger(?) pet…
Spamming Engis…
I wonder if anyone can give me pointers on how to counter a Mesmer in a 1v1 situation in sPvP. I’m running a condition / terror build.
If the Mesmer knows what he’s doing, it seems there are always several clones & phantasms out. I aoe what I can, but eventually my skills are on cooldown and I get overwhelmed.
I’ve tried targetting the actual player, but they go into stealth and by the time I relocate them, it seems the clones have made clones…
Any good way to deal with this?
Awesome. Looking forward to finding some cool looking stuff then!
So… what’s the rarest thing you got from one of these?
Capped a point due to lagging… the other player said I was “teleporting like crazy”… Not the kind of trick I’d like to use.
Been happening to me randomly since last weekend. Most recently just now:
16:49 Frankfurt time, Map: Skyhammer
Hey, thanks for all the replies. I surely misunderstood this trait’s mechanics. I’ll put it back and see what happens
When I check the Terror trait in sPvP (so Level 80), it tells me Damage with Conditions is 926. That’s it? Or is that per condition?
That doesn’t seem very much damage, is it even worth taking this trait?
Rym – Thanks for that specific advice. I had been using a PvP-build I found on the net (which was not too different from what I had been using before) – and what you wrote encouraged me to try different traits, utilities & sigils.
I feel much more comfortable with this now! After all, what good is a “must-have”-trait, if you never use it due to your personal play-style.
Also it makes it much more “my” character. Very nice
Hey… thanks for the welcomes, advice and suggestions I’m still having a blast and hope to see you in-game. Take care.
Hey,
I got into sPvP a few days ago and thought I’d write some of my thoughts down. Perhaps it’ll inspire someone else to try it out.
So I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 since March, almost exclusively PvE. I’ve recently gotten a bit into WvW and had gotten somewhat annoyed about how I often get so destroyed 1v1 there.
I wondered if sPvP would be a good place to train for that. However from the beginning that game mode held absolutely no interest for me. I thought:
- it’s stressful
- everyone will be better than me
- there will be mean comments and elitism
Still, I finally decided I would try at least one match. I read up some info on the wiki & forum, selected my gear and looked for a build, which I hoped would suit me (my main is a “classic” Condi-Necro).
So then I tried to go into “Hot-Join”, but couldn’t find the button for that :/ Well, a quick question in the forum here solved that and I was into my first game. Second game. Third… well, you get the idea. Several hours later I said “wow, this is the most fun I had in a very long time”.
Turn’s out the game is:
- relaxed / easy-going, no pressure
- there are no mean comments (well, some out-of-frustration-moments, but not many and nothing personal so far)
- amazingly fast
- I’m actually not too bad (this one really surprised me, I don’t have teen-reflexes anymore…)
- very satisfying
- so much fun
Now that I’m consistently one of the top-scoring players of a match, I’m considering trying out “Solo Queue”, but I’m not rushing it.
Here are two suggestions, which I think might lower the learning curve for new players:
- Use the same terms in and out of game. For example if it is called “Hot Join” in official posts, call it that on the UI too.
- Put more general hints in the match-opening window. For example “2 people on a Capture points are not capping it faster than 1” – no, this was not intuitive for me and I don’t remember it being explained in-game.
Now, there are things I don’t like, don’t get me wrong *cough*Skyhammer*cough*, but I can live with that.
So… sorry if I was rambling, I’m just having so much fun with it, I want to get the word out to anyone who might be a little unsure about trying it out.
Oh, and if some matches aren’t going your way, always remember: all is vain.

Wow. Best post ever. No question.
all is vain

Thanks for the response. There’s seems to be more going on here. My login at the 2nd machine invalidates the password. I can’t use it anymore on either machine then.
Anyway, I know now to be logged on only on one machine. That solves the problem.

Regular computer with Windows 7.
However not the machine that runs the game. I’ve just tested this and logged both into the forum and the game on the same machine. This works.
I suspect there is some kind of check and the password gets revoked, if you try to log on from two different machines at the same time.
That’s very good advice. Thanks!

Okay, same thing just happenend again. I log into the forum to write a message, so far, so good. But the next time I want to log into the game my password is no longer recognized there and I have to reset it.
???
I’ve been playing sPvP for a few days now, exclusively Hot-Join, so I can learn how this all works.
At what point would I move to Solo Arena? Is there a difference to Hot-Join except for the leaderboard?

No, that’s not it either, hmm.
However, now that I think about it, I had made my first post in this forum earlier today and it stopped working after that. It’s the only thing that was “different”.

Thanks, well I only see the last 3 log-ins and those are mine now. No, no mobile phone set-up.
Ohhhhhh. Thank you.
I just got beaten bloody for the first time

How can this happen? All of a sudden I couldn’t log into the game or the website anymore.
I reset the password now and everything’s fine again. All my characters still have all their stuff…
Still, this leaves me with a queasy feeling. Should I be worried?
Okay, this is probably the most noob-question ever…
I’ve done mostly PvE and some WvW and wanted to check out the sPvP. So I come here and read the https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/New-to-PvP-Start-here -post and some others.
From my understanding if I choose Hot-Join I will be paired with a (hopefully) fitting team.
But… where do I find Hot-Join? In the Game Browser I find a long list of Server names, what do I choose. I can find no mention of the Hot-Join mode here.
Help?
