I like to try new builds on pretty much every profession. However I am having a hard time actually doing that.
- Ranked Arena: Obviously not the right place.
- Unranked Arena: I had thought this would be ideal. But people there are determined to win – being called “useless” was the nicest being said to me, if my build didn’t work out.
- Practice Arena: No, not possible. Either my team zerks the one with less people. Or I’m in that team, being focused by The Zerk.
I had hoped Unranked would be the place to play to have fun, without the constant 4v5 and the zerking. I wonder if the current premade-problem in Ranked is the reason for more “serious” solo players being in Unranked.
Where do you test your new builds?

This has left me scratching my head… So let me try to get this straight.
I just had my first 4v5 after this patch and my team lost. So… I got a “forfeit”, which means MMR is not updated for this match?
And this is both Unranked and Ranked? (The “bye” is obviously only for Ranked.)
I do agree with you, players do blame scapegoats because admitting you suck is hard and MMR is a visable target.
This is exactly what happened back when Rank was still shown. And the ragers were usually the ones doing least for the team.
This sounds like great stuff, guys. I think it addresses two of the biggest issues – finding a team and the sense that there’s no point in trying since the “usual” tournament winners are just too good.
Looking forward to this starting in EU. Best of luck.
Sooooo…. will Dishonor be turned on tomorrow?
1763 hours. No drop.
Two days ago I got my first precursor from the Forge after deciding to throw all my gold in. Lucky there, finally.
I think the randomness of this “end game” is by far the worst part of the GW2 design.
I mean, come on, it’s 1 of only 7 things shown in your character screen as Account Medals.
Ah, good! Thanks.
I think my question was not very well written, sorry… So I’ll try again, with numbers!
My Mesmer has just gotten two chests from the reward track. She’s sitting in the Heart of the Mists. My Hero Panel shows MF 160%.
My Thief is the Cursed Shore. Hero Panel shows MF 400% (through boosts).
Will the MF-counts-for-chests-thing that exists only for PVP rewards, only apply in the Heart of the Mists – or should I open with my 400%-character?
The recent Call of the Mists buff made me wonder… That one only applied in a PVP area.
We know that Magic Find applies to containers from the Reward Tracks. But does that also perhaps only apply when opened in a PVP area?
I usually open them with a PVE character which has the most MF%. Now I wonder if that is a mistake.
Long Q times turn off the top players (they get the longest Q from strict matchmaking)
Short Q times make them happy and all the rest of the people VERY unhappy (because they all get rolled and feel really ineffective and weak).
How about a user-option “prefer quick Q” or “prefer closer matchmaking”? Then people can decide which one they like better. I wonder if that would work.
So ummm…why is someone like me(atm ranked 94%) queuing solo and getting matched up against ppl from TCG? =P
Same here, just got roflstomped by one of the TCG guys…
Completing “The Source of Orr”, you are given the title “Champion of Orr” by King Reza.
However you cannot display this title in-game. Is this a bug? Why would you be granted a title, if you cannot use it?
Why not just volunteer and getting the win bouns in any case? You can’t be forced when you volunteer!
Because sometimes I prefer to stay with the team, with which I have played for the last 10 minutes…
This is Hotjoin/Practice of course…
It used to be that when you are auto-balanced without volunteering for it, you’d get the win-points in any case.
Today this has happened twice to me and I did not get the points.
That’s not exactly a good incentive to keep playing the match, when you are forced to switch against your wishes…

Necroing this thread… Is this working now?
No, missing here too.
Same error here on map change. Since yesterday on and off.
hotjoin is what makes or breaks the pvp community, if new players have fun in hotjoin then they’ll stick around, if they don’t, then our community continues to bleed our players without new players coming in to fill the gaps, our community dies away.
Yes. This. Well put.
Works well! Thank you.
I’d like to finally tackle World completion. Anyone have a build that gets this done fast?
I guess it’d be important to take care of as many trash mobs as fast as possible…
Thing is… something was almost ready to be rolled out with the previous feature patch. I was certain it would be included in this one. No clue what happened there.

Clicking the new box to have your Mini show up has no effect in Heart of the Mists. It apparently un-clicks itself.
Now I understand that there shouldn’t be Minis running around in PvP-Matches, but I’d like them to show up while I wait, please.
It worked with the old method.
You mean ban all AI? That would essentially ban whole professions like Rangers and Mesmers. They have no alternative.
You’d need to first implement alternatives for them. Which I don’t see happening.
Ever since the feature build this Minimap doesn’t show the bottom parts anymore. You can’t see the bases and have to run out blind rather far, before your marker appears.
You might want to remove the names from the screenshot or this thread will be removed by the mods…
Just had another one of these. Person leaves the match about 20 seconds in.
I can have fun, even with people that are new or are half asleep. But 4v5? No, that’s 15 minutes of my life stolen.
At least give us a /resign option.
Hey, thanks guys. I’ll be trying these build for weeks to come Glad to see, that there a few options.
Well, no other way to say this: Because they have no clue.
I now stopped caring. There’s just no point with the match making at this time. I play as best as I can and just try to have fun, even if my team loses by a landslide.
Guess what? I’m actually enjoying it much more now…
I mean sure, you can usually tell who is new. Double-capping and such things.
However PvE-level is no indicator whatsoever. Many people have several PvP-only characters at Level 2, because they only do PvP.
Today i was matched with 3 players with below 500 achievement points, both below level 10!
…
Before entering solo queue tourney, you must be a level 80 character.
APs? PvE-Level?
Thanks, I’ll try them out!
@Pyro, I also checked out the links in your sig. Some very helpful stuff there
From my understanding it’s based on how often and again whom you win. The score shown on the Scoreboard at the end of the match does not matter at all.
Seriously? Two clicks too many? You must be very happy with the game if that is your main concern…
Page 7. And this is a combined thread started only a month ago.
What options are there? I have not seen any Dev response yet to suggestions made here. So this can only be a guess from me:
- For some reason it’s apparently not an option to remove this map from Solo Q
- Changing the map layout / mechanics like has been suggested may be too much Dev time investment at this time
- The same might be true, to include options to select maps one wants to play / not play in some preferences screen. I have no clue how difficult it is to change the UI.
But no matter what different players think about this, I think it is undeniable, that this map generates an unhealthy amount of rage and 4v5s. This can’t be in the best interest of the game mode as a whole.
So what can be done? One idea I have heard was to expand the Queue popup-panel, with a small “Next map: xxx. Do you want to play?” Yes – game starts. No – you leave the queue, someone else can hop in.
That seems to me to be a fairly small change and should make everyone happy.
Hey… I’m new to Mesmer, so still looking at different builds. So far I’ve tried PU and Shatter. But they’re not exactly what I’m looking for. PU is too easily ignored and Shatter is too squishy for my tastes.
Is there something like a Condi-heavy build, that trades less stealth for more non-ignorable damage?
I had fun trying a new profession for the last few days. Enough so that I’m doing Solo Q with it now. Had even more fun. Then I got Skyhammer
If you only you were stuck on Niflhel. Those Svanirs make good steaks.
Guess I should bring food and blankets for the night…
That’s a great idea. I would finally be able to try out a new profession in a non-hotjoin setting without dragging the whole team down.
But yes, it would have to be implemented in a way, that you can only switch characters within a similar MMR-range.
I’ve whined about this before… I want to play / try out new-to-me professions and builds. The best way to do this would be IMO in an Unranked Q. However since we don’t know if / when this will be implemented I wonder about my current choices.
Hotjoin for me is mostly useless for this purpose. It’s 4v5 almost all the time and the Zerg is strong with this one. I can’t try anything but the most simple mechanics there.
Solo Q seems unfair to my team mates, to be there when I have very little idea about the build I am playing.
How do you handle that, where do you go?
I just wanted to do this poll. However I find that I can’t. What is considered a moderate or long Q time? 5 Minutes, 10, 30, 60? Not having any idea what we are talking about here, how do you answer that?
Care to link me to some of them? I couldn’t find any of them, hence my confusion.
Here are some:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Rerolling-NERFED-PvP
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/Please-stop-with-the-sPvP-unlocks
I can get skill points and gold by doing PvP, but I’m not having any traits available to make me even remotely viable in hot-joins.
What? Which of the new Grandmaster traits do you find necessary, to be “even remotely viable”?
1. Look at the bottom of this screen, you will see ESRB Content Rating – READ IT
It’s not “bad language”, it’s personal attacks that upset people. BTW, Guild Wars 2 Rules of Conduct? Read it.
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/guild-wars-2-rules-of-conduct/
Now you have a phantasm that attacks every 6 seconds and deals around 8k crit damage on glass cannons.
But it’s not happening only to glass cannons. I’m currently routinely getting hit with 8k phantasm damage on my Necro with Rabid amulet.
You could track another (one-line-only) achievement, the Daily doesn’t show up then.
I hate Spirit Watch. And it would be so easy to fix too. The balancing issues are well known – and even those would not be so bad, if the Orb, which is supposed to be a “Secondary(!) Mechanic”, wouldn’t reset after only 10 seconds.
