Lyssa’s Grimoire – a guide every Mesmer should read.
Violet = bringing spiritual awareness to a higher level of thought
Mhm, I always relate blue/white with spiritual- or self-awareness :P. Purple is still an amazing color for butterflies, though.
There are male butterflies. They don’t consider themselves feminine or effeminate. And pink used to be considered a masculine color until about the turn of the century while blue was a feminine color. http://forgottenhistoryblog.com/pink-wasnt-always-considered-a-feminine-color-and-blue-wasnt-always-masculine/a
In other words what a culture thinks is feminine or masculine is arbitrary and can turn on a dime and reverse itself.
Ok, so here is a random question… Do you do Astral Projection in real life? I’ve been really into it lately, and I kind of want to know what I’m getting into, before I get into anything… I’m not sure if the sites out there are trustable, so I’m kind of looking for someone with experience I can talk to :P.
And if you have no idea what I’m talking about, never mind xD
That was amazing :D
You actually have no idea how much I waited for another story. Ghe mesmer vs guardian story was… Addicting!
I’m actually reading thie in the middle of the nighht, on my mobile, so I probably won’t be much help… But I have 2 comments anyway.
When someonr cuts to your legs, it’s very easy to dodge backwards. That is, because attacking the legs gives you a much shorter range than attacking something on the same height as your shoulder.
Also, in that particular scene, there was no practical reason to use 2 swords at once (even though i looks really cool). Aeoldyn would be better of with attacking with one, and guarding with the other.
Jumping in melee combat… Is a pretty bad idea :P. Atleast in real life. If Gasmic dodged backwards, but leaned his upper body forwards, he could cut Aeol’s throat at the exact same time his sword reached his legs (which are out of reach). Addiionally, if Aeol only used one sword to attack, he could parry the dagger with his other sword and try to counter attack. Then Gasmic could stab Aeol in the side or some place with the handhe has left, and gets a free moment of twisting it and stuff, untill Aeol recovers with his other sword, that missed the legs.
I feel like that could make a pretty cool scene… And imo a little bit more physical trauma in fight stories is always a good thing :D
Anyway, that’s just my experience with ->realistic<- swordfighting. The story was already amazing :D. Whenever I add combat to something I write (can hardly call those monstrosities a story) it tends to get repetitive, and boring :/. This is actually my way of saying how awesome you are :P. You had me on the edge of my chair (or rather, awake, while I should be sleeping) for the whole time <( ^ – ^ )>
Whenever someone slashes at my legs, I actually silently do an evil laugh in my mind… As my sword smashes into their skull/throat x.x
Well, that does happen, but without the actual injury/death :p
Oh, and my second point was… How do you promounce Aeoldyn? I’ll just go with ay-oldyn for now, it’s much easier to read :P
Edit: I type too much. Oh, and I forgot to mention how much of a writing failure I feel compared to you :P. I actually did write a short story last friday, and people thought it was pretty good… Well, if I were to show them this one, they’d be completely blown away :P

This great purple butterfly,
In the prison of my hands,
Has a learning in his eye
Not a poor fool understands.
Simple solution: you can’t revive defeated people when you’re in combat.
Beep
I really liked the cinema effect at the beginning, but the letters could’ve been a bit brighter in my oppinion :P.
The gameplay looked solid too, even if it was a bit long for me.
It’s not gone yet. Will be in the March 18th build, though. You still have a little under 2 weeks to use it up!
Oh, I guess I"ll just buy the t3 human light (even though I’ll never use it, it just looks so pretty!) set… And then have 20k left to spend on random things. Yay random things :P
Thanks for lettibg me know ;D
Wait, they renoved glory already :O?
I wasbt done deciding what i wanted o buy yet xD. But I guess irs my own fault for taking a break from gw2 :’(

Zergs are the reason why i, and many others have just stoopped doing the living story.
Standing in a huge mass of players, mashing 1 and getting some loot just isnt fun. It requires no thinking, no movement, no skillfull use of skills, and most of the time you only see floating names because you have to put character limit low, or get really low fps.
Im one of those rare people who play games for fun. I know some people only play for rewards, and just want to feel accomplished, but not everyone is like that.
I wish there were more instances. Im getting sick of 90% of all patches being nothing but zergs.
21. Having my 200 glory boosters removed :(
My Sylvari felt personally victimised by Sieran’s strong advancements. He did not reciprocate her feelings and she did not stop. It was horrible.
Welcome to the real world as experienced by women trying to go out for a drink with friends and receiving incessant unwanted advances from random men, who similarly do not stop despite the attraction clearly not being reciprocated. It is horrible (and very creepy)! Be happy that it is just in a game and not in real life.
Ha, you have the same name as my girlfriend :P.
And the struggle is real :/. Theres always some guy who sees it as ‘an opportunity’ to… Hit 2 birds with 1 rock, if you will. Even after directly telling them I’m not interested. It can be really creepy/annoying v.v
i think pyro suggested a long time ago, to get rid of leap’s pathing and just have a clone spawn next to the target with the option to swap. like how iwarden is summoned…have the clone summon the same way..heck the clone doesn’t need to attack or even follow…it just needs to be next to the target when casted so we can just swap and apply that 1-2 sec immoblize and we can blur frenzy ourselves to death if they have retaliation up. i need to lay down…for a bit
There have been several threads that actually suggested this, but Pyro always disagrees. By then, I still picked his side…
Yeah, that’s just not the case anymore. Back when Mesmers were still in the meta, leap WAS a powerfull skill, and also telegraphed. Now, there’s just so little you can do during the immobilize, it’s not even worth it.
A dev said ‘Mesmers have some good stuff coming in the balance path’ somewhere… This good stuff better not be the critical infusion nerf. I want to enjoy this game so bad… But living story is nothing but zerg events (which Mesmer can’t do) and balance patches are nothing but Mesmer nerfs and boring metas with passives.
oh well they closed the positive thread so i guess this is the next 1 ;(
To be honest, only the first post was positive.
The replies were just pure, hard sarcasm.
Were you maybe headshot spammed by a thief with perplexity runes?
The interrupt confusion lasts 15 seconds. 5 stacks. The best we have is 5 stacks on confusing images for like… 5 seconds.
We could just revert untill the “build diversity” patch that happened about a year ago. Sure, bunker eles were fun and a little bit unkillable, and warriors were a joke…
But it’s much ebtter than eles become compeltely useless, warrior the best at everything with all the condition aoe spamming from some other professions.
The meta was fine before the whole “build diversity” patch… which actually reduced build diversity…
The voice in my head read the OP as if it was an Old Spice commercial….
Also, nice vid xD
O.o
I learned a lot from watching this video clip.
You learned how to run away :P?
Alissah your videos are hilarious :3
Love it!
Please more :’(
:D
I’m thinking of making more, but I can’t really get on gw2 much to film…
Chaos one time said he was going to make a certain video, and me and Skcamow offered to help… But I haven’t heard anything about it ever since. Maybe you should spam his inbox as ‘motivation’ :P
You make me Norny!
Kudos to Locoman for the pic.
(I, personally, would remove the mask, and give him a huge purple stash)
I actually… Really want to try a norn out now O.o

Edit: Found it, but it doesn’t show sylvari awesomeness, just a fat cat :p
It still shows phantasmal sylvari awesomeness :P
I wish female humans held it like that, the way they drag greatswords behind them is sort of dumb…
The female stance is the more realistic and far more practical way of wielding a greatsword.
I don’t have any experience with greatswords… But come on, dragging it with you is in no way practical in combat :P. You leave yourself completely open to attacks , and no matter how fast you are, you won’t be parrying anything from that position. Not even a super slow guy trying to hit you with one of those weights that you have to lift , that is actually too heavy for him to use :P.
Then again, I never held, or see anyone hold/use a greatsword. I’d imagine they’re atleast twice as heavy as an average sword, though.
edit: well, the dragging thing still looks cool. So I don’t mind at all in gw2, we don’t ever parry attacks anyway… Except maybe rangers with that one skill :P. Just dontgo around calli git realistic :/.
I completely agree.
I mained a female sylvari Mesmer since launch, and chose the skinniest physique with A-cups. In december or so, when they added the makeover item, I changed to little bit more bust + a curvier body type that isn’t too skinny for human standards… And I imediatally ended up with a D cup :P.
I wouldnt mind if there were a few curvy physiques with smaller bust, and less curvy ones with bigger bust.
I honestly have no idea if that would be much work. I have some experience in armour creation in Skyrim, and once you have an easy program for body sliders, itsnot all that difficult.
If I were to make an outfit for body Y, but later decide to switch to body X, I can simply use the maaaaaaany sliders to scale the outfit to the new body, and save it as a “conversion Y to X” preset. Then i load that preset and (hopefully) make the program do everything i did the first time, on new outfits. The conversion preset loading takes like 10 seconds at most.
And then the outfit is compatible with in-game sliders, and body sliders in the outfit studio
But then again, this is an mmo. And it seems like things are waaaaaaaay more difficult in mmos :/. To me it seems like they can just use the upper body of physique A and the lower body of physique B to create something entirely new, though. How difficult can i be :o?

*How long should a season last? A week.
Interesting system, even tho I’d not go that way. Your system will reset the ladder far too often. And I think we have a different idea what season means. Season for me is resetting everything, and placing everyone on the bottom of the ladder again, without any benefit from the previous season. In the end you system is a daily+weekly reward system.
Beside the problem of matching players together when you reset your ladder every week, we also need a system, that rewards players for playing more then the weekly games.
In the end, rewarding players every daily and weekly with something additional is very interesting idea, and we should find a way to implement this idea in a more ordinary league system.
Yeah, I don’t have any experience with ladders or leagues in other game, so I just made something up that seemed interesting to me. Maybe other more experienced people could get something usefull out of my crazy ramblings anyway :P
mesmer actually double profits from the sigil buff
Why? Because we have 2 weapon sets?
What type of structure would you find interesting for leagues and ladders?
Your rank decays a procentual bit each day, and completely resets at season end, but going through ranks you’ve been before is much faster. System keeps track of your highest rank, and bases some rewards, and how quickly you progress through ranks on that.
How long should a season last?
A week. (I know it sounds crazy, but hear me out)
What would motivate you to play in one?
When my rank decayed, having the ability to go back to my highest rank very fast, and asociated daily-, and seasonal rewards will keep me coming back from time to time. (see below)
What types of rewards would you like to see?
How would a player earn these rewards?
How would you encourage players of all skill levels to participate?
If you do not participate in pvp to the point where you’re in “0” on the ladder, you don’t get daily rewards. If you as much as win a few games to go to “step 1” of the ladder, you start getting daily and seasonal rewards, and the 1-time rewards for getting to step 1. This will encourage even new players to do a bit of pvp atleast once a week, but doesn’t “force” (even though some may feel like they are) them to do it daily. Rank decays quicker at higher ladder steps (as it’s procentual), so staying low on the ladder, but high enough to qualify for rewards is a good strategy to get free rewards.
Ofcourse you get paired up in mathces with players from your own skill level.
Associated Risks
Laurels may lose value if they are given as seasonal rewards. However, I think it makes sense, because laurels are time-bound. Seasonal rewards are time bound, and laurels are only given to very high ranked players. (low ranked only gets gold and karma)
edit: simple one: being higher on the ladder gives additional rewards when winning matches. For example, people that are at the lowest step get teh 15 silver we currnetly have. at about halfway you get 15 silver and some karma, at 75% to the top you get 1 gem.
Giving more different rewards is better than just ‘increasing the gold you get’, because it -in my oppinion- gives a better sense of progression.
“I get gold, karma, AND a gem!” vs “I get more gold than you.”. This should apply to daily, seasonal and treshold rewards too.

So, this is what happens during lunch breaks here…
Hugh asked our map artist Darrin to photoshop Chap after he saw the post. Priceless!
Darrin is the man.
Haha xD
Mesmers are getting some nice stuff.
Stay tuned.
You mean more than the single nerf (aka critical infusion) we get in the next balance patch? Or is this the balance patch after that one :/?
I thought I remembered this working perfectly in Beta Weekend 1, as a leap that left a clone behind you, which you could then swap to, but I might be remembering a different weapon, as I know a ton of skills got swapped around.
That was in teh 1st beta, and it was horrible.
the 2nd skill actually made you leap and leave a clone. the 3rd skill made a clone leap. Activating any agian would swap position…
Yeah, no thank you. I’d rather have blurred frenzy :P
:o
I’d love for it to be fixed, but I don’t have any faith left in the balance devs of this game, so I’m going to go ahead and say I’ll be surprised if it’s fixed by 2015.
Exactly my thoughts, sadly.
I used to have so much respect for the devs, with them promosing to communicate about stuff. There have been way too many “Good for the game, bad for the players” nerfs, to the point where Mesmers are sub-optimal pretty much everywhere. I just feel like the balance team has no idea what they’re doing. Ever since the big “build diversity” patch.
Well you did really well for a new Mesmer :P.
Just make sure you don’t use decoy when you have a Chaos Storm up, or are autoattacking with the staff, you’ll get revealed
.
Other than that, it was pretty good.
btw: Did you get steam messages on 4:47?
Yeah, I play gw2 with steam :P
I hope they do something about the ahving no zerg capability problem…
It literally ruins the entire living story for me, because EVERY SINGLE patch is about zerg events. Seriously. All we can really do is auto attack and occasionally drop a berserker that isntantly dies.
Meanwhile, al the warriors and guardians tag the world.
The last song in your video is from the game bastion, isn’t_it?
Reminds me of that game
I love that game, especially the music
.
I could sit in the main menu and listen to the song for aaaaaages v.v
Zodiac armor makes mesmer phantasms look horrible!
Not even considering buying it untill that gets fixed.
Hey, I’ve asked the rewards team about this. The designer who worked on it is currently AFK, so I’ll let you know what the deal is when I find out.
-A
Thanks!
Wow, such testing, many QA
Choice seems obvious :/
(edited by Alissah.9281)
Or if its a pve zerg event (which seems to be EVERY SINGLE living story), i just use spatial surge, berserker and stab to try and tag stuff, cuz thats what pve is about.
Zerging really ruins the living story for me, while if it was a 5 person instance, it would be pretty awesome.
Pyro, can just so I dont make a misstanke and insult a-net by strata thread about something bugged or not working with the class, could you pls tell us why you got a warning.
God save me but I think I posted in some thread that sword leap is not working as it should, and I even criticised the current sPvP meta another time, I kinda sure I might get banned soon if I not stop this.
/Osicat
The warning was because it advocated bumping of a thread, which is against the forum code of conduct. Believe me, if bad-mouthing Anet was against the forum CoC, I’d be permabanned, along with the rest of the sPvP forum.
Funny you mention “badmouthing”… Because I once got infracted for a very very mild version of that.
Basically, I mentioned how the devs reacted to our cry for “fix berserker”. No profanity. I got infracted for “not respecting community members”, even though the tone of that post was obviously a joke, especially considering I’m part of the group i was joking about O.o
But now I wonder… Which silly person reported the warden thread? We all know anet doesnt look in this forum, unless we directly point them towards here…
And i really want to use the signet for easy perma reflection :P.
Well, to be fair you shouldn’t be able to do that. The whole point is that you need to work together to get through the harpies, disabling / blocking / reflecting / deflecting them.
IMO, the ONLY point of the new signet is to rapidly summon phantasms. Other heals except mirror outshine it in healing and utility. The only reason to ever take the signet is for the active.
Besides, we were already aboe to wchieve 100% reflection uptime, and solo thr harpies before we got the signet + bugged warden. The signet would just make it a whole lot easier to do, if only the warden actually attacked :P
If were not allowed to achieve perma reflection while solo, Mesmer reflection skills would require a manor overhaul.
@altelier.5786, Pyroatheist.9031: thx folks, that clears it.
now, unrelated and random question (probably i should open new thread, but still): i play phanta mesmer (not my main). should i shatter phantasmal duelist / illusionary swordsman, or let them keep attacking once they are out? what’s better dps? i understand this is a very vague question, depends or traits, playstyle and situation, and i should probably do my math, but may be there are some general quick thoughts?
Simple answer: Its pretty much always better to keep thrm up. Mind wrack only to finish off something thats incredibly low hp.
Very detailed and weird answer (read at your own risk): Lets assume you only have 1 phantasm up at all times.
Mind wrack: about 3k damage
Duelist: 5k
Swordsman: 5k
Mind wrack is only usable every 15 seconds, and destroys the phantasm, so youd have to summon a new one. The swordsman hits every 3 seconds. If you could only have 1 phantasm, shattering and creating a new one would be optimal…
But you can have 3. And you cant shatter those, and quickly summon 3 more. Having 3 swordsman up for about 1.66 seconds will do the same potential damage as a mind wrack, and mind wrack will make you lose damage when the dead phantasm would have attacked again. So only mind wrack if its actually enough to kill the mob.
question:
Every profession sub forum has plenty intelligent discussion, by players who know the ins and outs of the profession, in all game-modes. Some also know enough about the other profession’s balance, and how they are all relative to each other.
I feel like devs are missing out on these discussions. If we get some sort of ‘warning’ about an upcoming CDI, we could for example make a list of important subjects, and different oppinions on it. The dev would have to potentially spend less time on that CDI, and have more time left for other stuff.
TL;DR: CDI topics for all professions would be nice
.
One of the worst places for me is in the harpy fractal. On some platforms they just cant attack at all :/.
And i really want to use the signet for easy perma reflection :P. Being rapid fired on with an inactive warden and no heal is the worst xD
i’ve been reading guides but still not sure.
phantasmal duelist: this guy stands where summoned and shoots at target, or whoever enters the range? if new enemy, will start shooting him instead?
illusionary swordsman: he leaps to the target and then what? stays there? what’s leap out (wiki mentioned leaping out)
So phantasms attack on a timer. Let’s say they attack every X seconds.
When you summon the phantasm, it instantly attacks. Once the attack is finished, the phantasm will remain where it is for X seconds. After that time, it will attempt to attack the target again. If it needs to move in order to attack the target, it will move at this time.
I wanted to mention the warden is an exception, because it intantly attacks when summoned, and stays there to create a reliable shield from projectiles.
But then I realised they made it buggy, and didnt fix it yet v.v
For a full list of builds, and their tactics + how to make your own build, go here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Lyssa-s-Grimoire-The-Ultimate-Mesmer-Guide
It’ll contain everything you need :D
For roaming, I prefer shatter builds, because its just the most fun for me. I’m running a high survivabilith variant, that it played right, is pretty much invincible. Ofcourse you can do that with other builds aswell, just depends on your style.
For zerging, I just put an arrow cat and pew pew pew.
Yeah, it’s pretty cool.
there’s one that ‘points’, and another one that ‘rolls’ it, like a bowling ball :o. Or atleast, that’s how I throw bowling balls.
By the way… If we know something bad is happening, then why is everyone still in LA, and isnt it already evacuated :/?
What do you guys take from your occasional moments in sPvP however ? Which metrics ? Which impressions ? Any recent examples ?
I love the game, but I have many of the same complaints as any of the other players on the forum. I was getting trolled pretty hard by Hugh the other day… hambow is pretty OP, has nothing to do with him being better than me.
You playing warrior? or sin?
I play lock-down mesmer and a Teldo engineer build, in that order.
Lock down mesmer and engineer?
My faith in arenanet is slightly less broken now, thank you :/.
Im so confused… I have no idea who canach is, apart from some guy in prison for something that happened in southun O.o
I didnt miss a single southsun story :o
