My friend on a free trial. First time ever in GW2. Followed me through this 3 hour grind fest last event (which is a bad way to sell the game to new people) he opns the loot chest and got 2 (YES TWO) precursors!!!!!!! Dusk and the staff one!!!!!!
WTF!!!
He didnt even know what they were he just told me and I almost fell out my chair.
wtf ArenaNet.
Ive been here since day 1 and have gotten nothing but trash from these chest (no joke)
This game is a complete grind. Even large scale events are turning into a grind.
I remember smiling like a little kid in a candy store when I first watched the Manifesto video…I feel lied to and betrayed quite honestly.
Mindless zergs allow people to kitten out…go mining nodes…stand around do nothing except tap and kill a few enemies and get the reward.
Thats the other thing thats bad about this system, lazy people not doing their share. Raids at leat do better to fight this part.
I choose option C
…neither
thanks for the fantastic input
I know… I know… people scream and flame someone the minute they mention raids for this game and then tell them to go back to WoW or something…but try listen and be a little bit grown up.
Everything for large scale events in this game are mindless Zergs. 2 hours for the last lost shore event just killing mob after mob.
Wouldnt things like this be better in an actual instance with a raid sized group? 20 – 30 people or so.
At least in a raid type instance ANet could make the battles more creative with different levels to the fight and not mindless because people could work together and fight different “creative” phases of these boss fights instead of just constant zerging.
The rewards can be the same as current 5 man dungeons…
Im just dying for some creativity here.
Look how cool fractals of the mist s…imagine that raid sized and not a mindless zerg..
i’ve already learned the hard way to use names of companies or employees of that company on these forums or link to posts made by those people so here goes
on gw2g in 2008 was the first last and only time they said dx10 would be in the game.
later on they said not at launch.
hte primary benefit of dx10 back in 2008 was the improved performance. ambient occlusion is incredibly subtle graphical effect, and easily faked in dx9. in fact swtor and rift both fake it in dx9 right now.
the primary offering for dx11 is not tesselation(which looks great but gives a rather large performance hit) but rather the multithreaded rendering which in gpu intensive appplications offers to boost performance by a rather large margin. for this reason it is very attractive, and in some games which utilize it well, it allows them to add more dx9 and prior eye candy while still giving fps gains as large as 20fps under the same presets under dx9 mode.
anyways dx11 is nice, but it’s not what people usually attribute to it. and dx10 is a waste of time for both players and devs. dx11 without tesselation looks identical to dx9 barring any added dx9 effects under dx11 mode for a game(such as wow).
Performance increase of using it (if your card supports it) is totally worth having it even if hey don’t add any other pretty effects. Thats what I’ve been preaching to about having it. Most games side by side DX9 and 11 show massive performance on the 11 side without having other effects added.
MMOs coming out most noticeably Elder Scrolls Online are already pushing its out of the box DX9 and DX11 full support especially for their massive World V World type battles in PVP.
Anet said they wanted everyone to be able to play the game that’s why they only did DX9…..that makes no sense….they could have had both Dx9 and Dx11 and still had the same amount of people..if not more. Just some more that would be happier with better performance of DX11.dx11 wouldn’t help performance in gw2 though, because gw2 barely utilizes a low end gpu let alone something decent.
anything would help…imo
Events get extremely boring as well after 1 hour of just zerging….
ALL these events are Zergs and constant repairs.
Yet, for what rewards? Some exp kharma and maybe a blue?
Its like the Devs dont want us to feel accomplishment for any of these things…except maybe JP’s.
Im tryna keep the faith Anet…Im running out though

This game is balanced with BvBvB and PvE in mind :/
Unfortunately for me since I think the spvp/tpvp part of the game is the one worth all of my attention/playtime
Your not the only one. There are plenty of us who feel the same way. However its like they don’t want us to sPVP or they enjoy trolling us with the current horrible setup and no game variety.
Don’t waste your time, they don’t even give attention to this part of the forum.
I have to agree…..People cry about PVE and there will be responses and fixes from the Devs…. sPVP complains and we get a blog full of empty promises…
Wasn’t PvP in the GW1 two months after release pretty terrible? Because that’s how I remember it, it took them months and months to get it to a good point… but maybe that’s just me and I remember things with patience not a sense of “now now now”.
It was but remember…they have had years (with GW1) to learn and see what people want.
You would think they would have brought this knowledge over to a new game instead of sticking us with the least liked game mode (kinda like in GW1) and no game variety.
Also they are bias to PVE in this game if people cant see that then they are blind…no offence. PVP is currently a joke in this and that should not be that way seeing GW1 had a large PVP crowd because of the way that game was made for it.
Its like they had a brain fart and forgot everything when making PVP for GW2
GW1 was PVP at its heart….it lived up to its name (not just the lore)
They have screwed their loyal PVP fanbase from GW1 with this current PVP setup
agreed….for a Team that made the first game a complete PVP joy the second game is nothing … in terms of PVP
guess they wanted to draw in the casual PVE and ZergVZerg people with this game and pretty much screw the sPVP crowd…even if most of us are loyal followers from GW1 and its PVP
More people play WvW than PvP…
Way more.
Yeh but its because most the people that came here for PVP have no choice because sPVP is trash right now
Jumping puzzles are fun..imo
Completing them is all I need…that sense of achievement.
Dont like them dont do it..they are optional after all.
DX10 is like Windows Vista…its dead and forgotten…stop asking for it. DX11 should be the only thing.
I still have no idea why GW2 didnt come out with both DX9 and 11 support.
New MMOS like elder scrolls online in 2013 will have both DX9 and DX11 support for perfomance increase in cards that support it as well as 64 bit client support and massive GPU and scaling. GW2 is far behind for being a “next gen” mmo.
They could have included both API’s and that still would have allowed eveyone to play.
troll learn to read, i mentioned earlier they promised dx10 but stopped when they realized they can just as easily do dx11. dx9 is the dead and forgotten one bro, seriously.
Wasnt trolling lol…just saw the DX10 and Ive seen it so much …besides wasnt mad at the OP just stating a point.
DX9 is not dead…yet…its still very common especially Version C. Its there for older cards.
DX10 is dead cause it came out at a bad time right before 11 and 11 has better multi threading capabilities.
Look at games like the Witcher 2…kittening beautiful game and its DX9 and its ultra mode brings Extreme class processors and GPUs to their knees.
So try not to be so touchy there little feller its will all be ok…

He keeps repeating the same line of dialogue non stop
Sound bug happened crashed the game I log back into a new overflow and had to start the event over…
Latency and lag are terrible…10 seconds between attacks cant even pull up system menu lol
“If this is a GW1 clone, then it will be a niche game just like the first and later mmo titles will steal the majority of player time.”
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_PC_video_games
I love how this “niche game” is in the top games sold of all time. . .
Do realize, WoW (all combined) has sold less then the Sims 2.
There’s no item progression in the Sims 2.
Your point is moot…
Read where it sais that sales from digital distribution places (like steam, battlenet and the many other thousands of places) are not included.
Also subscription figures (as in paying accounts) are not taken into the figure either.
Not a reliable list when it comes to total numbers…and numbers worth arguing about to validate your comment
Not WoW biased either this goes for every game not properly represented on taht list
If WoW went F2P (or even Buy 2 play like GW2) it would kill a lot of population in othr MMO’s…reason being…reagrdless of age of the game, leetist players, ugly graphics etc…the game has 7 years of content to give anyone joining as F2P/B2P Plenty of things to do for a long time.
I dont support WoW but this is what i would see happening if it did go F2P/B2P…
Thats why games like GW2 need to get their act together….
Im not saying it would happen but if it did…hmmmm
ALSO…go to the elder scrolls online site…look at the new video…game seems to have a lot of GW2 features in it…dynamic events…WvWvW etc etc and better combat with blocking etc….it looks like Zenimax is taking ideas from GW2 and making them work better… Its things like this that will hurt GW2 in the long run if the other company takes their ideas and does it right…
once again just my observation
(edited by Angelus.1042)
Way to misunderstand the patch notes.
These are additional daily achievements that are pvp-only, in addition to the regular pve-centric achievements. They do not effect your pve gameplay whatsoever.
They award achievement points. (did you see the word “completionist” above?) That’s why I play. So no, they do effect my gameplay. Way to read.
You are not a completionist. Completionists do the tasks for the sake of completion. It doesn’t matter what that task it is, how repetitive it is, how difficult it is. Because the task doesnt matter. The little number or bar that goes up when it’s done is all that matters.
You like to think of yourself as a completionist for whatever reason, but want everything to be tailored to your liking or come to you easily so you don’t have to make the full commitment.
I agree with the last comment in this post. Claiming to be a completionist then complaining its to hard to complete or you dont like the game mode (pvp) does not make you a completionist…. IMO this makes you a Recreational/Fair weather completionist…or not one at all.
Completionist will do everything regardless of how hard it is/how boring/or if they hate the game mode they will still do it.
sPVP is a joke…I made the mistake of getting myself hyped as well for launch and hopes of starting an esport team….
with the current sPVP setup, only one game mode which is worse then RA’s from GW1, downed state, no ranking etc etc etc this games sPVP will never make an esprot which is a massive dissapointment and letdown.
Ir refuse to go back to WoW however…Id go back to GW1 just for sPVP but its a ghost town now…
Prehaps we shall see what Elder Scroll online has in the future (they have a nice video on their site now)…maybe it will suffice until/whenever/if ANet gets their act together as far as sPVP is concerned.
I want to get achievements too, but railing against Anet because they added something for the PvPers (which I’ll never do and I honestly don’t mind their existence) seems a bit extreme. It’s like having all medium-armor characters and railing against Anet that you can’t get the heavy armor sets because you don’t want to play a heavy armor class.
This.
Preach it brother…or sister!!
You do know that WvW was intended to be casual? It was clearly stated that it was for the casual player, and that “hardcores” had sPvP.
That would be all ok if sPvP wasn’t absolute trash PvP mode for those of us familiar with GW1. I rate sPvP in GW2 under even RA from GW1 and that’s saying a lot. TA (old Prophecy version), HA, GvG, FA – all these were way more fun and tactical to me than GW2 combat and sPvP. I can’t comment on tPvP but I don’t want to play 5-man AB.
sPvP bores me to death, and this is coming from someone who enjoyed even observing GvG in GW1.
So it’s no surprise that a lot of real PvPers are actually in WvW or not playing at all.
THIS^^^^^^
You nailed it on the head!!
sPVP is currently trash…gotta find something to do besides quitting which I refuse to just yet …or at least until Elder scrolls online comes out and see if thats better then this for PVP
I vote for a daily “Whiner” achivement….it gives you a QQ chest filled with raddish and dead puppies.
But seriously… at least they are catering to PVPers even though the rewards could be better..somewhat.
Im glad they have this
There’s nothing hardcore about ZergVzergVzerg…
Its the most casual find the largest group to stomp a gate game mode Ive ever seen…
Most people who do it are PVE players…who complain about anything if they dont like getting killed or camped.
Removing infinite heals is fine…hopefully this will keep people like that out especially the ones who turtled their way through since launch.
Learn to not stand in the red…and guess what?! use your own healing skill!
Agreed…this has made many of my dungeon experiences horrible. Its not worth doing PUGs anymore on explorer modes cause most people are decked out in MF gearthus making them essentially useless for many areas and then they get mad when you dont rez them after the 500th time…
Defeats the purpose of working together and all that blah blah Anet talks about…. sorry its late thats why Im using the words blah blah..
Well some people are just a little upset about their $60 investment. Not to mention that many people wanted to play a game that was a spiritual successor to Guild Wars 1 in game mechanics not only in lore.
This^^^^
GW1 = Decent PVE great PVP
GW2 = Lets only focus on PVE for everyone/casuals and ZergVZergVZerg (aka WvWvW aka Casual PVP). Real PVP aka sPVP…meh…slap a few maps together all the same game mode (the lest populaer mode from Gw1 iirc..its beena while) and go with it!! =/= win
Sigh…I still holding out and keeping faith in the game… I used to preach to people how awesome the PVP would be in this game before it launched…. still no new game types and this patch has some fixes but more flaws…
Its so hard now to hold on and give the game more time..
Perhaps Elder scrolls online will give me something to hold over in 2013 till GW2 gets its act together later on in 2014…or so
ok ok wrong choice of words on the dungeon crawler part i suppose…but grops of ppl decked out in magic find gear arent doing much for the “team/ Work together aspect of things”
Just annoying running dungeons with a group all in magic find gear.
No one interested in completion of the dungeon but farming every possible enemy in there for loot thus turning an hour long run into 2 or more hours…or making it annoying enough to have to leave and try find another group or most the time is spent waiting for them since they drop like flies or dont put out any damage.
Not a QQ thread…just tired of the way everyone relies on this… this is a feature that does not belong in a game like this. Keep it to a dungeon crawler like diablo…
Edit – Most people dont even know how it works…just think Anet, get rid of magic find and you will have less threads complaining about world chest/black lion/consortium chest not dropping better loot…cause people dont know it only works with monster drops.
Elder dragon bubbles will send the crab people to soften us up before his invasion.
This is an omen of things to come
resist teh crab people
that wasn’t a stealth change…it is listed in the patch notes…
your sad face makes me wonder why your sad about this… did you like griefing people?
jk btw…
2. Inspect, where we can inspect other players equips (if they dont want to get inspected, just simply check “Dont Inspect”)
3. Mounts (Optional though, since we have fast travels) but it would be cool if we have mounts. No to both of these.
Inspect, in any form, is going to be abused by elitist dungeon monkeys.
Mounts don’t really have much of a point. We have way points and all classes get some form of speed boost already.
Elitest dungeon monkeys :p …lool
Im going to use that term from now on if you dont mind I like it…
I agree though…no inspect…it will be used for Dungeon Monkeys pretty much
Put this in bug reports maybe?
Camera really needs love ANet
Any idea when we can expect a real camera fix to fix the bouncy in and out camera and other terrible issues that make tight spaces and JP’s a nightmare.
Thanks for the patch by the way.
Thank you
Uhm where is stealth fix, or i just dont know how to read? Where is fix for free tournament play so you dont go against premade if custom team? MAybe haste/quickness or bunkers balance???
And i dont get the philosophy on makin PvP only changes. I am against seperating pvp and pve like that. Soon i will feel i play diferent char in pvp or wont know how to play it anymore.
They have always done this.
GW1 was the same way. many more skills in PVE did not work the same way or didnt work at all in PVP in GW1.
people say it took GW1 years for these other PVP game types to come out…buuuttt…this is GW2…why would we have to wait forever again for new PVP game types that they (the ANet PVP Team) should already be experienced with and should not have a hard time making in GW2 since they have years of experience with GW1.
Just an observation.
As the title sais.
Thank you for reading
People only think about expansions related to Cantha and Elona….
Do people not think about the rest of the giant planet…not counting underworld and other dimension zones?
Id like to see Anet take the game in completely undiscovered locations.
Not counting all the other races and kingdoms no one else have ever heard of that they could go into spread out across the planet.
Colored ZOnes is GW1/2 Main map Cantha and elona
quaggin and skritt will never be playable unless in a mini game or event.
They are made (imo) to only be NPC’s. Trying to flesh out an entire story and so on would be more annoying and probably not as enjoyable …imo
One more here is a more (or not) accurate scale of the GW2 current map (beta) to scale with the world…soooo smallll
Also this globe was taken out of (data mined?) the GW2 data files according to the article in the above reddit link.
Its a giant globe with human sized stairs going up to it according to teh article
I was reading that redditt article and didnt even think of the Main ocean being enough content for an entire expansion as well lol
Id be freaked out exploring the ocean
Yeh the scale is what makes me oooh and ahhh.
Just think if done properly and after a few years this game will be freakin huge!!
not counting all the other dimensions like underworld, fissure of woe and who knows other land masses in other “worlds” per say
*add show/hide name button to the game
*remove red color from enemies armorNo. Period.
It ~ will ~ never ~ happen.People will be tracked/hunted/griefed by name or armour dye set up. Which is EXACTLY what Anet does not want.
Why do you care how the enemy views you? Come on, say the truth :-) … YOU want to see people’s name/armour colour, for griefing. That’s the ONLY reason anyone would ever care about how the enemy see’s them.
agreed with this guy/gal
That would be the only reason most would want it.
ANet said they were working on expansion content for years to come.
I really hope that this means as far as story awise that they will use that giant world map/globe and let us explore all those other GIANT uncharted land masses and not just focus on Elona and Cantha again…well Id like to see Elona and Cantha but the rest of the map would be nice to.
I mean look at that world map…its stupid huge…and then there could be other zones and worlds as well in the mist and other dimensions to explore like all underground, the 6 gods zones etc etc etc..
So much here for so much more story and exploration not to mention new races.
Colored sections are all we have seen in GW1 and 2
A Quaggan assistant :p or banker
