This guy is the best commentator ever… (some foul language)
Oh and this is my opinion before you pull out your torches and pitchforks and march to string me up and hang me…like all good fanboys do.
I really dont see where the “no grind…we want you not to have to do that and have fun in GW2” thing the devs talk about.
I know its optional…however this grind is worse then just about any other MMO grind for anything (rare super elite items) I have ever seen…unless its some crap F2P pay to win game.
Shouldn’t the experience of gaining a legendary item be…legendary?
Or fun and a unique experience?
Discuss?
(edited by Angelus.1042)
shhhhh….oh dear…now youve done it
….I smell the torches and gas being lit by a lot of closed minded fanboys that are going to tear this thread apart….
on a serious note…raids would be great…for large guilds and friends….be a lot more fun then forcing each other apart.
Missions prehaps
i remember in the first beta (press) there were many people asked for more emotes and the ability to sit in chairs then. there are thousands of chairs and beds and so on in this game and no one…not even the NPCs can use them…they all stand around…or sit on the ground.
this has been requested for almost a year now (press was in Feb of 2012) and nothing has been mentioned by the Dev team.
the same stuff mentioned in the blog and everything else…copy and paste…
if you really want just go to the twitch.tv channel and click videos on the guild wars 2 page…its been recorded
its funny they disabled the chat ….on the channel…
Or you just adding guesting ?
A real update to sPVP??!!
PSHAW!!! Pagh!!!and other un spellable sounds of amusement and disgust.
seriously though…I doubt it…. we have been hearing the same copy and paste things since launch.
I would LOVE to have raids, right now there is nothing in game to keep me interested.
The combat system that GW2 has could make for some awesome encounters and here and there in dungeons I have come across cool mechanics/encounters, but overall it is just ‘tank n spank’, which I guess happens quickly with the combat system that is in place (oh the irony). Though I would have to admit that, of course it is fun, if there is no reward there is no real point in doing it. It SHOULD have exclusive skins and the like, perhaps not statwise better, but it should have something that makes it worthwhile to go there. Yes someone pointed out that you don’t really want it for the sake of content, but then again, why do we do dungeons? Grinding for our legendary? Map completion? It all has a reward at the end. People like being rewarded for their work and raiding would be no exception.
We will see how everything develops, I will be anxiously waiting for any major content update anyway.
Oh and Mr. LoreChief. Stop being so childishly selfish. You’re making a fool of yourself.
agreed about the raid content
also agreed that LoreChief is a …meow
They have mentioned many times that expansions will include many things and a level increase being part of that.
I think his line “Hey, what about PvP?” was put as the title because he was about to turn in his blog post and some PvP DEV or QA guy said “Hey, what about PvP?”. Colin probably thought, “oh ya, I forgot we had that.”
I know that seems like a ridiculous statement and clearly I’m being facetious, but I honestly feel like PvP is a tacked on mode and they threw that line in there to just placate the 10 of us that still play PvP.
I think the only frustrating this is that I thought this game was marketed as a PvP game with PvE elements. Maybe I completely misunderstood, but it truly feels like less of a PvP game than WoW was. WoW was PvE with PvP tacked on and yet it seemed to have more options (albeit later in its life) than a game that was supposed to be a PvP game that was to launch with a great PvP experience.
I’m getting jaded. I feel as nobody talks about PvP in their blog posts, the forums, reddit, or anywhere else because there is nothing to talk about.
well put..i was thinking the same thing that Colin probably thought what you said lol
Its almost a slap in the face how they added the line for PVP….“Hey, what about PVP?” then mentioned nothing but what we have been hearing…no game types or anything else..
Its a PVE game this…it gets 95% of the video and blog post… sPVP is a tack on.
Gimmééé skillsss,, i want to change my 10 skills i’ve been using for the last 6months
This^
More skills…like a ton more like GW1 had..
Also duel professions..
Warrior/Necro was kinda cool at time
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Q-Is-multi-boxing-allowed/first#post244389
Multiboxing is very simmilar to botting and 3rd party programming so according to Anet’s policy it is strictly forbidden. Please, refrain from making use of this and report any player you see making use of this.
Incorrect information being given by someone who has no authority on the subject. Please stop quoting such posts. This is the response you receive from contacting CS, the people who actually handle your account:
We cannot condone or support the use of any particular program or sytem for multi-boxing. However, we do not terminate accounts for multi-boxing, as long as — through the process — they do not breach the User Agreement or the Rules of Conduct, both of which you can find linked from this page: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/ If an account is in conformance with the UA and the RoC, we have no objections to dual-boxing or multi-boxing.
This…multiboxing is allowed.
Most people say no because they either wish they could themselves but dont have the PC power to do it or they have ran into multi boxers in other MMOs and immediatly without doing research think its wrong (or are jealous)
Anet does not condone it cause they wont take responsibility for any technical issues that may arise…
Its like overclocking….you can do it…but the CPU maker (intel/amd) wont take responsibility for you jacking up your system if you do.
(edited by Angelus.1042)
This^ and a mix of over hype and Anets promises they made in all their videos including the manifesto..that didnt exactly work out that way..
Then…the worst and biggest letdown…sPVP
We all payed for the game…we payed for game that made huge promises and they didnt exactly deliver on all those promises..
Weee…grind dungeon tokens or buy it from the trading post…
Thats a super duper legendary experience !!!!!
/end sarcasm
Seriously….there needs to be a long quest or something…who cares if theres a grind..at least it will somewhat be masked by the fact we are doing something to advance the quest instead of doing the same dungeon over…or buying it off a TP..
Bad implementation Anet.
These quest should send you all over the World…The hunt for a legendary should not be confined to the first game….instead it should expand over many expansion packs/Campaigns etc.
You should have to join different factions…gain unique artifacts/books etc etc from them.
Find hidden items in the world…in the darkest caves….etc etc
Anet should have not added Legendaries for a few years until they had a solid plan/questline and after they had a few expansions/new content release to flesh out the experience.
Gaining your legendary should be a fun/epic/“Legendary” journey of adventure and discovery…..NOT the current omg!!!11!! I grinded this dungeon for 100000 hours….or even worse…I banked my gold/used the ol credit card spent thousands and converted to gold and bought MY legendary (or precursor)…IM so awesome!!11!! (yes and we all know there are people out there who would do this..)
You shouldn’t call these items legendary ArenaNet. There is nothing legendary about gaining them.
Id rather log in and be excited to continue my legendary quest…or sitting on the edge of my seat for that next legendary quest to be added via an expansion/content update…then dreading the whole…gotta do this dungeon a ton more times today only to end up with bad returns halfway through.
(edited by Angelus.1042)
I thought in the “Manifesto” there was not going to be a grind..?
I understand a small amount..its common in any game (most)
But GW2 turns into a massive grind…something you would have not expected if you had watched their manifesto video…
gw2lfg for dungeons…
its pretty sad when you have to use an unofficial website to find groups in this game… instead of them having a built in LFG tool…
they should not be a boring grind..
There should be some major quest related to them…
It will make it more of an epic adventure to earn your legendary then grinding the same dungeons over and over…even if the quest had grinding at least it would not be in the same place over and over.
Imagine a huge instanced storyline or celebration once you earn your legendary and the quest is different depending on the legendary…
There..thats some “end game” Anet could add to the mindless grind in fractals that they call end game.
Buying legendaries (the precursors at least from the AH) or grinding for tokens and so on…is not legendary…in the smallest possible way.
We should go on a “legendary” fun adventure/quest to earn our legendary…instead of grinding..or buying off the trading post…
Then again…if they did that then Anet would loose a source of income from ppl dumb enough to convert real money /gems to gold just for it. I really feel some of the ways they do these things is to maximize profit in turn forgetting about us the players and hoping we font see that in the mindless grind…doesnt seem right to me..I know they are a business but they should at least be creative in the way these “legendary” items are concerened.

Hello All
Frankly i am shocked by the responses happening in the forums. Everyone is going crazy, moaning about endgame or WvW or Spvp.
Game has been out since August. Give it time. YOUR NOT PAYING A SUB!!!!, just come back once they started adding in new features.
Take WoW for instance.
At launch it had nothing compared to what it has now. It didn’t even have PvP at launch.
Took them till end of TBC just to get Achievements in the game. Patch 3.3 End patch for Wotlk just to get Dungeon Finder in the game. and 4.3 just to get LFR and Transmog.
MoP before they got pet battles and item upgrades.Yet everyone here is moaning like little kids just because u don’t have everything u want in the 1 go.
Give Anet time, They will be adding more the game as time passes. SURE!!! I could understand this rage and venom that’s in these forums if you were paying a SUB, which your not.
Go play something else and pick up the game when they add more. Anet ain’t just gonna add event patches the rest of the game lifespan.
Also these forums can be looked at without logging in. So anyone that might be interested in buying the game looks at these. I could understand why they might stay away.
if it took 6 years for one car to make air bags a standard feature is it ok for another car to take 6 years after that? no. you release with what your competition has. thats how real businesses work.
This^
I need more characters ..there we go
welcome to the internet. you must be new here?
yes..the game is new…but they have years of experience from GW1…they didnt incorporate anything that was good or worked.
my cat plays ranger pretty good.
Zenimax owns Bethesda along with ID and others.
Bethesda has people working on TESO with Zenimax.
Bethesda part of Zenimax still focuses on solo ESO games but are still helping Zenimax online who is doing the MMO.
There is a Zenimax FAQ somewhere about this. Ill dig it up when Im not lazy.
This whole stupid argument reminds me of how people raged at the new Devil May Cry Game when it was announced 2 or so or whatever years ago…. Fanboys/girls went crazy at the new look of Dante and said the game will suck cause capcom isnt making it….a different studio…ninja theory was making it.
Now look at reviews (release date is this month for the game), people who have played it love it and most the gaming world (people who know the series) cant wait for it to hit now.

Things I miss from GW1
Different factions you could get points with that in return unlocked specific faction based skills and attacks. Also unlocking faction based armor and weapons.
Combination of professions (duel Professions), having a warrior with the ability to use a necromancers blood magic was fun.
Capturing elite skills from boss enemies.
A better map system so you know what you have explored.
A lot more weapon/magic skills that allowed us to be creative and not use the usual cookie cutter builds that GW2 has.
Guild V Guild
First person
A camera that worked
Cinematic cutscenes that were done right, that werent trash like these terrible side by side cutscenes.
Guild Halls
Spectator Mode
Rankings for GvG and PVP.
Free map travel
Hard mode – GW2 could do this by having a normal and hard channel for each zone.
Xunlai Chest. In other words easy access to our bank from every safe zone in the game aka access from all small outpost and towns instead of forcing us to pay money to port to a city.
Boss fights had a little more depth due to the healer/tank/dps roles.
Ability to save templates for our skills/trait system. Also adding no cost to changing our skills/traits. This way from any safe zone (city, small outpost etc) (in PVE environment) we can click a template and instantly change our traits around to match the specific scenario. Would be great in GW2 sPVP so we can test new builds with a single click instead of having to change traits and skills all the time.
I have fun every day in GW2.
There will be no new MMO that will beat it, quite simply.
Putting hopes on TESO is a major mistake guys, it’s exactly like SWTOR – an untested team with no experience cashing in on a major franchise (morrowind to skyrim).
And this folks is the definition of a fanboy. One who equates to thinking.
Game X > Game Y > Game Z rather than Game X + Game Y + Game Z. People like you are the reason that the gaming industry is changing for the bad, your shortsighted fanboy eyes, ruin every game that isn’t the one your pledge your alligence to.
There are amazing MMOS coming out in the future.

This. Its true. Ive even fell in that rut before.
we shall see what Elder scrolls online will do….this year 2013 i bet many people will be saying that its MMO of the year…
its a vicious cycle my friends
never ending
TES Online was dead to me the moment it announced a subscription model. If people want to go back to the pay-to-play style of gaming, hey, it’s your money.
And it’s not being built by Bethesda, so it’s honestly not going to be as good as people are drumming it up to be.
Bottom line: it’s not a WoW killer either. In fact it’ll probably hold at right about the same population levels as SWTOR and GW2.
Why does every game have to be thought of as a WoW killer?
Its not even Zenimax or Anet saying it. Its the conumers that say these things. Its the avg joe player that spouts out this prattle…not the devs.
Besides a sub model cost money but from what Ive seen…..many many players who have been playing GW2 have spent hundreds in the Black Lion place. Most have spent enough to pay for a sub fee on a regular MMO for the next year or usually more.
People are dumb enough to see free and think its the best….but over time they start to spend real money in the cash shop to maybe get a boost in leveling since they’ve done it 10 times already and it all adds up anyways.
Cough Ill put this here.

The engine is built on dx9. The money needed is too much to change it. I would doubt any major things like this to be release until an expansion.
whats funny is..they could have added DX11 during the development process…. new mmos’s are coming out with it (elder scrolls online, its been in production for years like GW2) and older MMOs have already added it
besides gagmes like witcher 2 look beautiful with DX9 but its a solo game…DX11 has many performance benefits besides pretty effects that would help GW2 in th elong run since it still runs like crap on many high end systems that can run games like witcher 2 maxed (like mine)
Rytlok cause his a great big kitteh!
wow…i should have changed the title of this thread…more people are on about not loosing their “freedom” without even taking into thought the whole idea of joining different NPC groups and adding more “variety” to the game.
This is just an idea people…it could be tweaked to seamlessly flow in with normal every day gameplay.
Besides like people said to me…you dont have to do the above (if it was implemented) if you dont want to.
Never liked being forced to the same type of quests over and over again.
GW2s system allows us to do anything we want in order to complete our dailies..
We should want more freedom not lesss.
THats why i said an event system for the above dailies.
Maybe I should have said….I dont mind grinding but the same grind every day minus variety is what gets boring.
While I wouldn’t mind some change in dailies from time to time, nobody is making you complete the achievements. That’s why they are achievements.
Its called having something to do besides grinding fractals, crafting or grinding a new toon.
I just think we need more variety.
So currently in GW2 a daily is considered…opening up the achivement screen and looking at a list.
Go kill 10 of these types of monsters
Farm nodes
etc
Get a chest..wee
Isnt this just a different form of the grind that Anet said we would never encounter in this game (in their manifesto video)…the guy in the manifesto video (the swing a sword guy) said they dont want us to have to go kill 10 monsters…etc etc
Yet this is what we end up doing on a daily basis.
WIthout people lighting their torches and saying go back to (insert MMO name here)…why not have real daily quest?….oh kitten I meant events!!! dont flame me >.>
Yes, people will argue this will be a grind…but face it…most “end game” already in GW2 is a grind. Anet needs to drop the “no grind” act. May as well add more things to do to allow people to"grind/do end game stuff in their own way or what they enjoy instead of forcing dungeons on them…or crafting.
Why not have different NPC factions that we can work for and do events (notice i said events…not quest…god forbid ppl kitten at me) for on a daily basis?
I mean in the personal story we can join 3 factions….why not build on that to add to the non existent end game?
Like we can build faction points with the skritt, the Kodan, the Hylek, Largos, EbonHawke, each of the Charr Legions, Lionguard, the pirates in LA, etc etc etc etc etc…the list is long…hell even ogres or sons of svanir or krait.
This could be fun stuff for post lvl 80 and personal story.
We can join one or all and go do events and missions and gain gear that way without having to grind fractals, or get faction specific gear, pets, minis whatever.
Lets keep this serious not a ….“this game dont need anything im the ultimate fanboy”…or “this game sux im gonna go cut myself”….you know what I mean.
Lets all play nice in the responses.
Id prefer having all servers split by region.
We deal with enough people locally that think they are “leet” imagine the ones from EU or KR… where that’s all they do all day since most of us here have more to do other then GW2.
imo…and from what Ive seen playing on EU servers in the past
(edited by Angelus.1042)
once again…people should just be happy that stealth isn’t permanent in this game like most others.
guild wars 1 cut scenes were a lot better then GW2 …especially the scenes in GW2 with 2 characters standing there talking (90% of the cutscenes) using terrible voice acting and not even looking at each other most the time…its just 2 character models made to stare in that general direction.
I miss the old style of having a more cinematic approach in GW1
Raids should be put in the game…but amde optional.
So you can raid if you want or do something else for gear as well.
There are many people including myself who like GW2 but it lacks so much. Guilds get screwed in this game. Raids imo are fun for guilds and large group of friends cause they can do it together build unity and all that fun stuff.
There has got to be more end game content then grinding tokens/mats for a weapon skin.
People could argue and say raiding is a grind….but that depends…Id prefere to raid with a large group of guildies and friends then always having to break up guild events into tiny groups.
All current world boss events are just a zerg of people hitting the boss… theres gotta be some variety and creativity. A raid would at least a lllow a large group to work together and tackle more in depth and harder to master boss fight mechanics.
Even large scale sPVP in a team oriented environment (not a zerg like WvWvW which is all it is) is needed…ala GvG.

i wonder how much real money people have wasted on converting gems to gold?
there are no Dead servers. People are dispersed. Lion’s arch right now always is in overflow. It’s logical that that fewer people is playing in the middle zones…
Anyway… where do you hear that they are going to merge servers? That is absurd.
There are plenty of dead servers. Don’t spout nonesense.
Lion’s Arch overflow is the way they should do all pve zones. Mid tiers don’t have to be empty. There are plenty of people playing in them accross all servers but they are too spread out at the moment because ANET dropped the ball.
Make all pve zones overflow by default and the problem is solved. And they can give up on their useless guest feature that will rarely be used. What a waste of dev time.
Last time i check all servers were Full/high pop. ANET said that population means People PLAYING, no registered accounts. So, There is two options:
1) People are in different zones where you are.
2) ANET liedBesides, you are talking about Underflow zones… that is different about “merging servers”.
servers are always gonna be full or high pop…cause its based on accounts not active players… so your getting fooled into thinking every server is full….but oh no..its not…thats just accounts not an actual real active player.
Uh, you’re actually incorrect because that would mean accounts have been all around deleted over the holidays because since people have been out of town/inactive for Christmas – New Years the population listing for the servers has decreased from full to very high and high to medium on servers that were all full or very high before.
Anet said the server population on the server list is active players, not accounts. It wouldn’t make sense for it to be based off accounts.
halfway down (in the above link) with the attachment picture is the best explanation ever.

I think they should reduce the price of exotic gear on karma vendors and give us ascended gear for the current exotic price, considering they nerfed all the fun ways to karma into the ground.
They really should get to this pretty soon though. If they release expansions at the same pace as GW1, it won’t be too terribly long before we see the first expansion. And since they already announced that they definitely plan to increase the level cap in expansions, it would make all this gear null and void and we’ll have to start a brand new gear grind at max level again a la WoW.
Would be a bit much to hand us alternative ways of getting ascended gear only to make it all worthless within a couple months after.
Wow.. really? they’re going to increase the level cap?
Well I might as well stop playing then, because I purchased Guild Wars 2, because it wasn’t like WoW that it constantly upped the level cap, and just gave out new gear.
And “Casual players” could never keep up with the majority of the elitist crowds unless they had really good friends that pulled them along.Wow.. really? they’re going to increase the level cap?

Anet has said in many interviews way before and even after the game was released that their would be level cap increases with expansions.

than catering to the minority who waant WoW mechanics with GW2 graphics
I hear a little company called Bethesda might be doing a small project like that
PP
Elder Scrolls online …IMO is going to take GW2 and Mash it with WoW to satisfy everyone who wants a piece of what they like.
A close friend tied to the gaming indusrty has played it behind closed doors and has said it may make an excellent mash up.
They seem to be taking what GW2 has done..fixing it and then adding elements for traditional MMO players as well… with real elder scrools combat (blocking, dodging, sneaking)…..not to mention you can join the dark brotherhood NPC guild!!!!…thats all the motivation I needed to try i out lol.It will be worth keeping an eye out.
actually no one from bethesda has any thing to do with the development of the game, also honestly i feel part of teh good part about oblivion is the becoming overpoweredness, and being able to mix and match your charachters build to your liking, dunno how entertaining it will be with game balance (no one can be too powerful or have cool skills) and predefined classes as well as a trinity.
Zenimax if you want to get technical about it… but then again most people wil automatically think Bethesda… just cause of the previous games…I see either name and know what people mean.

At least fix this games kittenty camera…

Vasham you are correct on all fronts, although from what I have read few seem to understand. The simple fact is that GW2’s PVE is egregiously inferior to WoW, Rift, etc. I know it is blasphemous to say this because GW2 “revolutionized MMO’s” and we no longer have to be “subjected to the grindfest gear treadmills that are all other MMO’s,” but let’s look at the facts. PVE is a mess. The trinity was replaced by no real substitute as has been discussed on numerous threads on this forum, and the mechanics of the fights are laughable when compared to Blizzard’s fights. Call WoW a gear treadmill all you want but you are either a fool or someone with no serious endgame PVE experience if you seriously suggests ANet’s PVE meets the bar. Vasham has covered the implications of this as well. The player base is defined by PVE players and I do not see anything sustainable right now. This game could be great but ANet did not have to abandon what WORKED in other MMO’s.
Disclaimer: I am a former WoW raider with realm first world top 50-100 kills for 6 straight tiers. You can hate on Blizzard all you want but you can not deny that they masterfully design amazing encounters, something ANet has not come remotely close to.
Very good post and tactful.
GW2 does turn into a grindfest…for “skins”
Boss fights are nothing compared to other MMO’s like rift/WoW/enter MMO here. It is true, they are just Zergs and dodging the red circles.
Anet has a long way to go….time will tell.
GW2 wants to be an action MMO….Ive never played Tera (I know it didnt take off like pp were hoping) but Ive read Tera has a better combat system…is this true?
(edited by Angelus.1042)
I vote for a game name change….
Door Wars (WvWvW joke)
Zerg Wars
“Not” Guild Wars
I think they forgot about Guilds (especially GvG) when they rushed this game out the door..
time will tell…
you know there are more MMO’s then just WoW out there…..
yet still…its amazing how much WoW still has an influence to be the fallback insult or compliment in any MMO debate.
Its true…just about any MMO debate no matter the game…somehow WoW will get mentioned somewhere… heck someone mentioned WoW in the FireFall beta forums the other day…
combat needs more mechanics….all it is currently is zerg the boss…dodge the red…yay….gets boring
Compared to WoW GW2 feels like its still in beta.
it is ofc… WoW is 2004, GW2 is 2012… do you see the difference? if you dont count graphics etc, they had much more time to implement all those features and fix bugs
and your money every month ofc
GW2 however has years of “experience” from what worked in GW1…different games I know however…they didnt take a single good idea from GW1 and implement it… they even took one of the least liked game modes and made it the only one? other features like spectator, GvG etc etc…. dont tell me they have spent 5 years working on 4 maps only…>.> (the supposed PVP team that is)
(edited by Angelus.1042)
sPVP is a joke…PVE is ok.
When they made GW2 it was for PVE…they didnt care about sPVP like they did in GW1…all they did was push the PVE stuff and ZergVZerg (WvWvW)
you should be happy that stealth is limited in this game…
they could have made it like rift, wow and many other MMOs where you can stealth for as long as you want…
then again the thief in this game needs longer stealth to match the type of character it is…there should be a trait to extend duration.

and your money every month ofc
