Have you fully thought this through?
Solo Arena and Hot Join are both competitive and arguably both casual.
Who said I was blaming hotjoin for anything? I just dont understand why they have the 3 different modes. I can see 2, one for coordinated group effort, and one for joining up solo.
To re-phrase, why have a split between hot-join and solo arena? I don’t see the point.
What’s the point of having all 3 modes? I see no differences between hot join and solo arena other than one is customizable and the other is standard with queues and way better rewards.
Why split the community this way?
While it’s true that the requirements for wins are a bit high, you are taking this and achievements in general too seriously.
I raged about downed state at first too, but after several months I realized the value it has on team play. It belongs here.
Just remove the cost in pvp like all other skills. Why create problems like this for zero benefit?
Please remove and refund the cost for the new heal skills in PvP.
The excuse of players having too many skills to learn and wanting to gate them via “progression” is not a valid concern for PvP. This is what PVE leveling is for. This breaks one of the (previously) best features of GW2 PvP which was that you could roll any profession and have full access to all gear/traits/skills right when you entered the mists.
This implementation provides no benefit to PvP focused players, especially those with alts, and I respectfully ask that you resolve this soon.
Regarding new skills, PvP will continue to have all existing skills unlocked for players. Only new skills will require unlocks. The number of skills currently in the game can be intimidating for new players. We would like to allow them some time to learn the base set while they work towards unlocking the new skills.
Please don’t do this. This may help the 0.1% of brand new players, who’ve never played GW2 before, and decides to start with sPvP. But it will also kill any incentive to create alts and experiment with different professions and builds. So, in catering to those 10 brand new players (who apparently can’t read skill-descriptions and haven’t set foot in PvE), you’re destroying a vital part of what makes sPvP in GW2 a unique experience compared to other games – the totally equal playing field.
I honestly see absolutely no benefit to this change, at all.
I agree, please keep PvP fully unlocked so that it’s all about skill, competition, and aesthetic rewards.
Please reconsider.
I’m looking forward to this. Finishers will actually have meaning now. A lot of PvE’ers complain that PvE skins are too easy to get, and so it devalues the skins – they are right. The same can be said for finishers. Not everyone got a gold trim cape in Guild Wars 1. If you saw someone who had it, there was a tremendous amount of respect in the pvp community for those who did.
Finishers have meaning NOW and are difficult to get because the latter ones require exponentially increasing amounts of time in PVP (as opposed to buying them via gems or with gold). It doesn’t reflect on skill, just time and effort but having rewards reflect on skill in a team based, occasionally puggable environment is extremely difficult to do well and I would argue not worth it.
I would also like to see ranks (and their finishers/gear unlocks) kept in place as a method to demonstrate effort and experience over time. It doesn’t reflect skill like ladders might, but I don’t think ladders make sense at all in a team based battles with pugs. Implement ladders for tPVP if you wish.
I do think the rank point requirements ramp up far too much each tier making it take longer and longer to see an improvement to your title/gear/finishers.
Yep that worked, thanks.
um, no i was just jumping right where the goggles were. Ill check dulfy. Stupidly unclear achievement.
The first time I did this, an achievement popped up but it’s not in my Living World > The Nightmares Within log under Tower of Nightmares Diver. I’ve done it 3 time since, no credit. Whats going on?
Thank you for being transparent and explaining the changes.
While balance is very important to us, as someone who likes to play a lot of alts big changes to traits like this make it difficult to stay on top of all the different professions and build options.
I understand that you have to continuously improve the product but I’d recommend you release changes to one profession (or at least fewer) at a time.
If they’re trying to fix hot-join by discouraging everyone from standing on a capture point, I don’t believe this is an effective way to accomplish that goal for the reasons given above. Glory is useless, but why not continue to allow for self score to influence rank except give a larger bonus for wins, and maybe no self points for a capture?
I’m looking forward to this but I think having a grind for continue coins is a mistake, and as others have said I hope we don’t have to go through that intro dialogue each time.
I think it’s only gotten worse with the last 2 updates:
- queues, tickets, small arena with bad camera for guantlet
- invasions & overflow, buggy achievements, blocking progression on gauntlet, for clockwork
- now the announcement of how they’re gonna roll out Ascended
While it’s not true for all players, they are definitely changing the direction of the game from it’s initial intentions WHICH I LIKED VERY MUCH.
My advice, fix bugs and add content (the kinds that aren’t frustrating like you’ve managed to do a few times before) and stop trying to change some of these systems.
The people complaining “its too hard” are a different set than those who complain"its not hard enough". I hope it’s challenging but not cheap.
Challenge our reaction time, intelligence, and skill, but not gear, build, or crappy camera mechanics.
This event is bugged, I completed it 4 times until I finally got credit for the achievement, and what’s weird is I got credit right as Chomper died and I hadn’t killed Strugar yet.
Anyway I’ve read that some of the arenas are buggy especially for Liadri so perhaps try a different arena/sector. I didn’t really pay attention to that when I was getting them.
It would be nice if they would fix some of these bugs, instead of what they’ve been focusing on in the recent patch notes.
Also, since the achievements list “close portals” shouldnt you HAVE to be successful for event credit?
Some of you are saying “you just have to participate, it doesn’t matter if invasions are a success” but is this true for the following:
Vorpp:
Portal Invasion Closer (stuck at 2/5 since day 1)
Clockwork Chaoss:
Worldwide Invasion Responder (stuck at 2/7 since day 1)
Invasion Canceler (stuck at 2/7 since day 1)
Yes, I’ve done more than 2 maps but I have done Fireheart at least twice to see if I could get it to work. I seem to always hit overflow so far after about 6 in a row no one seems to win as they’d prefer just to farm the failure. I’ve opened a bug on this as well.
One note, I did the Playhouse dungeon prior to finishing these, could that have bugged the progress?
You can get more devices on your alts by talking to Vorpp on those characters.
No, read the achievements. All of them refer to “Stopping” not just participating.
I’ve participated in 6 invasions, and I’m 2/5 on the Vorrp Portal Invasion Closer, and 2/13 on Invasion Canceler. So if you are getting credit on failures then that’s a bug in your favor.
There are other threads about it such as:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/merged-Invasion-Canceler-not-advancing
Wrong, if you aren’t successful in the event you do not get credit for Vorpp’s achievements.
He’s bugged in another way, and that’s the Meatless Murderer achievement. I did it 3 times last night without credit.
Update 3 times. Whats up?
I just did meatless murderer twice in a row, and i know for sure Chomper never touched the meat, never got the buff etc. Is this bugged too?
No more items that just take up bank-space. It should be view-able through the personal story/living story UI.
I just beat this after about 100 tries or something insane. I literally got it as the NPC was saying “two—oonnee!”. Maybe it’s my gear or spec but I do think it’s a bit overtuned.
Why cant you right click on someones name in chat and invite/join group?
Why is it that your last two content updates inspire more frustration than previous ones? (though I guess not quite as much as the first one-time-only event)
I realize you can’t make everyone happy but there are some very clear blunders Anet is making and they don’t seem to be learning from their mistakes.
- waiting around in queues
- zerg content (if you’re going for an epic feeling, you’re failing at it)
- dome shaped arenas with poor camera mechanics
- blocking access to existing content (gauntlet) forcing people to play through queue-zerg-portal-athon
- ruining the economy with new gold farm, that also delays others from progressing through it.
The designers at Anet thought it would be a good idea to force zergy content down your throat if you want to go back. You must complete a series of boring zergfests which include waiting 45 minutes for events, 5 times.
I don’t see how this makes any sense from a story perspective either. Are you guys just trying to kitten your customers off?
OH yeah lets all log in so we can wait 45 minutes. I didn’t think your design could get worse after the previous “content update” but good job.
This guy must work for Anet because she’s one of the most annoying characters yet and this event is horrible so far.
Whoever designed this event was just trying to troll us. The challenge of the gauntlet is fun, but the camera mechanics, annoying NPCs that won’t shut up, the farming/buying of tickets for entry, the queues for gauntlet and the small dome arena for it are all major pains. Also, Conjured Annoying Greatsword.
I’m sorry but the camera should not be part of the challenge, it should be fixed. In a game of such high quality it’s a shame that the camera mechanics are so crappy.
It’s bad enough you have to run all the way back after death and farm/buy tokens just for attempts, but then you have to sit in a queue. This is a poor design decision that only increases player frustration.
What the hell is this here for?
to welcome this veteran contender back to our arena.
Is it really necessary for the NPCs to say this every single time? It’s extremely annoying.
Please fix this, it’s very frustrating.
In some cases 50% of the players are one particular profession., and typically they are taking advantage of flavor of the month builds. Why can’t we just have an option to filter servers based on profession restriction, say 2 per profession. It’s no fun to play against 5+ thieves or necros for example.
I’m not saying restrict it across the board, but give us the option.
Thank you so much for adding another sPVP map!
I vote for Defektive.
Auto-balancer should not change you to a different team while you’re in combat. It’s extremely frustrating to be punished just because other people decided to quit mid-match. Even more frustrating, this has happened to me several times while carrying the orb.
Thank you for this build. It’s not as much fun for my play-style, but it’s effective.
Yeah I take it all back. Defektive’s build is really good. It’s no where near as much fun as the brutal melee builds of the past but it’s effective:
The traits don’t synergize.
It’s like they had 5 different interns just randomly come up with traits that don’t benefit the abilities.
They want us to use burst abilities but most of them are garbage, and using burst makes Healing Surge useless.
