also, don’t run S/D with them.
whatever your traits are, all these skills have rather long cd’s, so pick a more useful trait.

This new build of yours definitively looks better than your previous one, and is reasonable enough to survive in the front-row, while also dealing enough dmg to justify its presence there.
The reason wolfrar did choose elixir B over toolkit is because he already utilizes elixir S as failsafe (and secured stomp if needed) and for most people 1 panic-button is enough. Elixir B provides 4sec of stability so you have the option to get at least a small amount of stability to embrace the first dive.
I personally prefer toolkit over elixir B for its pull, cripple and block, and I guess after some time on playing engi, you will develop your own preferences as well.

Also, make sure to choose speedy kits instead of speedy gadgets, since your build contains no gadgets. I guess that was just a missclick on your side.

edit: avoid bloodlust or other sgils that stack charges on kill. you loose them as soon as you switch to underwater-combat, which is a deal-breaker in my eyes. Benevolence is the only exception for healing bomb setups, since it’s just too good to pass up on it.

http://www.wolfineer.com/pve/ Wolfineer’s PVE page… Dulfy is a good resource usually, but if I remember correctly, it’s not that in depth when it comes to builds. Kinda bleh, unless it’s changed in the last couple months…

But since the OP said people are surprisingly easy to hit with nades, I assumed he meant PVP or WvW.

Apologies, I did mean to say that people are easy to hit in wvw/spvp.
Also, you guys make it seem easy to level characters, I play my thief all the time, and he is still level 60(ish). What am I doing wrong?

Welp, you play spvp only, for starters.
I guess you’re fine on your thief, since you know it already, but playing a new class, without any expirience from PvE how it works, earns you nothing mutch, and toom-farming is painfully slow.

Tipps to make it easier for you:
- read the wiki about engi. the entirety of it.
I did it, many people here did it as well, I believe.

- test stuff in PvE
Run circles on the maps (doing map-completion in that process doesn’t hurt) and try out the combos you’ve learned about from us, the wiki or other guides. Once they start to feel familiar, and you get confident to pull them off in stress as well, jump into pvp, wreck people, farm tooms and level up.

- never give up
The engineer can be frustrating from time to time, especially if you try out new kit-combos and recognize that the gameplay is so different from your previous builds that you’re back at the beginning again. Getting over exactly these moments is the only thing that splits a pro from a scrub. They keep trying and eventually master all aspects.

and a tip for general leveling:
crafting is the fastest, yet most expensive way to 80 (can be done in 1 day from 1-80)
second best option is eotm blobbing, which nullifies any learning-experience, but is a good way to farm wxp and badges, therefore giving you a headstart into wvw once you’re 80
3rd best option is map-completion and personal story.
it is the natural way to level up anyways, and mobs are perfect training dummies to try out what you’ve read about.

Cele zerging build /w Divinity Runes

in Engineer

1st: utilities
as a cele zerger you rather not want to run nades
reason:
- no decent soft-cc
- no firefields
solution:
- run bombkit instead
- also rocketboots are fine to escape while roaming, but in a zerg there are only two reliable ways for the engi to save his kitten Toolkit – which you already have – and Elixir S.

2nd: traits
explosives, master tier
- switch from explosive powder to short fuse.
reason:
in a zerg dmg is determined by the skill of your commander in terms of positioning and timing, therefore having your utilities ready on demand is way more important that 10% more personal dmg.
- consider taking out 10 points from explosives to either get self-regulating defense in alchemy or leg-mods in tools
reason:
If you follow my advice to run bombkit, you don’t need grenadier anymore and can focus on improved mobility or survivability. Alternatively, go for automated bomb-dispenser, to increase your blind-spamability

3rd: gear
celestial is fine for roaming, but for zerging you want to be more tanky than your current setup, especially since we are a medium armor class.
consider full knight, knight/berserker hybrid, full clerics (with elixir-infused bombs-setup) or clerics / knight hybrid.
Other setups might work, and given that your zerg has a hunting party going, even full zerker setups have been proven to be viable, but if you ever want to take a step into the melee-train, the above mentioned setups are your best shot.

and now to your original question: runes / sigils.
melandru is your best friend, or eagle if you play a berserker s/d sniper. Hoelbrak may gives longer might duration, but since a zerg keeps 25 stacks up in combat permanently anyways, you would only profit from runes strength on that regard, which in turn provides nothing in terms of survivability.
Decent alternatives: Vampirism gives a nice fail-safe, altruism is nice boon-support, monk works wonders in a cleric healing bomb setup, grenth brings nice synergy with sigil of hydromancy, mad king is a impressive load of dps, added to your crate.

sigils:
stamina is impressive survivability in bigger zerg fights, restoration as well. for smaller engagements, doom and hydromancy togehter are a nice way to disrupt your opponents, and for that extra “oomph” on your attacks, battle and strenght will provide decent outcomes (given that your zerg fails to keep might up reliably).
For cleric bomb-healer, benevolence is worth to be considered as well.

Any of these sigils or runes mixed will provide your with at least a decent level of effectiveness within your zerg.

Same problem here, but with lionsarch.
Happened right after loading the release patch.

I can enter the character-selecion screen, and loading planes of ashfurt (which a low-lvl toon was standing on) worked, but as soon as I try to load lionsarch, I’m stuck in a infinite loading screen, making it practical impossible to play my lvl 80 engi, warri and guardian, which were all parked there pre-patch.

Requesting at least a moderator answer that this issue is being worked on, and will be fixed asap.

@glenndevis
Welp, considering that a-net resists against balancing for each game-mode separately, a dps buff, with all the mobility and versatility going for the engi already, would be a nail to the coffin for class-balancing in pvp / wvw.

On the other hand, PvE dps does not really matter unless you have a clock ticking on your desk, each time you enter a dungeon. For me, f.e., it’s just a daily gold-grind I don’t spend too much thought into, so I don’t mind having slightly lower numbers on my screen than – say – ele or thief. And with all the utility we bring, we are definitively not in a bad spot when it comes to consider your group-composition for dungeons or fractals, so yea, no real need for a dps-buff from my POV.

Ofc, new skills and traits are always welcomed, and there is quite a lot of bug-fixing to do, still. Considering that, I guess there are more urgent tasks to accomplish than plainly boosting our dps-output for no real reason.

Personally I find Elixir F being a mess in WvW/PvP
the projectile flies in a slow, rather high arcing curve, often resulting in its miss if not being shot point-blank, and each bounce behaves the same, making it almost impossible to cleave on range with it.

Uping the projectile velocity and flattening the arc of its curve would be totally sufficient to make elixir F more viable, since the dmg and applied soft-cc / swiftness are totally fine as is.
Currently I rarely if ever bother to even pay the half second of pre-cast animation for that skill and ignore it completely whenever I play EG.

[Suggestion]Daily System Ver. 5.0 Concept

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Arantheal.7396

Bad idea, since:
- lore breaking (cooperation amongst all races)
- hard to implement (new instance / new npc’s / new items / new quest-system)
- forces people to play PvE, therefore punishes people for playing PvP/WvW instead

Your post started promising, with the suggestion to up the objectives to 8 a day.
Stick to that, and give it to wvw / pvp as well.
I really don’t care if we get the same dailies for wvw each day, since there is only so much to do anyways, and only so much each individual player wants to do.

Uping it to 8 a day is easy and fast (therefore an in-time solution), does not require pointless new factions, and most importantly: will not kitten off 2/3rds of the community.

Best turrets and arrangement?

in Engineer

Posted by: Arantheal.7396

Arantheal.7396

First off, full tureteer is a facerolling build, not packing enough burst or survivability in ranked matches since you will just get steamrolled by 2 or more players all the time.

That being said:
Your turrets have fixed dmg, and only the conditions they apply use your stats as reference (condi-dmg / condi-duration).
That means that you can go full tank (in terms of stats) while your turrets do the work.
Going full tank however decreases your direct dmg-output, therefore ’d recommend rifle since its soft/hard cc is your best bet to feel useful.
If you go the condi-tank route, take sigil of balthazar and flame-turret. that one actually provides decent dmg, if you opponent insists on going melee after you (which a smart player would not do anyways). going pistol shield is the natural option for that.

turret placing:
general – pack them after a fight and re-deploy them when needed. A opponent that knows already where your turrents are will exploit their blind-spots to clear them before you can react / before he engages you

rocket turret – always off point, favorable on a elevated, hard to reach spot.
net-turret – not deployed at all. drop, overcharge blow it up and use the belt-ability right after to immob a player that is rather down and just needs a bit more dmg to go into downstate
tumper-turret – not deployed, unless your opponent is low and has no stability. drop, immidieatly overcharge, and therefore gain 2 knockbacks for the costs of 1 cd. use the belt-ability for stunbreaking.
rifle-turret – junk to blow up. procs accelerant packed turrets decently, and should only be deployed for its overcharge. if the overcharge is donw, low it up / pick it up and use the belt-ability instead.
flame-turret – stomp-assist and aerial denial. drop it on the side of a point to cover the area with perma-burning and use the smoke-filed from the overcharge to stomp / avoid dmg.

and last but not least:
supply-crate.
turret engis are immobile, and even mobile dual-turret builds suffer from long cd’s. therefore they rarely can help their team. to compensate for this, you should supplement your cd’s with supply-crate, so you can bridge the gap after (f.e.) your rocket-turret got blown up. also you should always drop it into your allies, if you join a fight on a point that is undecided / on the brink to fail.
after the crate is dropped, you can set up your rocket-turret and blow the point up with a thumper-overcharge. that cc-bomb should be enough to finish a fight, givent that your team brings the dps-burst that you personally surely lack.

about condi-clean:
You don’t do real dmg anyways, so rather focus on defensive runes to supplement your lack of cleanse, instead of trying to do something that is futile for turreteers: dmg.
runes that help with condi-clears:
hoelbrak (only if you run experimental turrets + flameturret)
lyssa (use crate to cleanse)
water (works best with settler-stats)
melandru (also nice stun-defense)

sigils against condis:
generosity (only on rabid or knight stats)
Purity

Since the common turreteer takes x/0/6/4(+2)/x you already have all the passive traits against condis, namely transmute and AMR.

inb4 trolls:
Yes, I know turrets are bad, but I rather give constructive advise than to simply point out that they are bad.

good eu server?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Arantheal.7396

Arantheal.7396

As Trogdor pointed out, the Server you choose only matters for WvW.
So if you want to participate in large-scale pvp (what WvW basically is), you want to choose the right server rather now than later, since Transfers are expensive, and will lock you on a Server once you have opened your first character.
Ofc you always have the option to delete all your characters and transfer freely. It’s not even as bad as it sounds for new players, since you will keep your gold / other currencies and all items in your bank, even if all characters are deleted.

Anyways, to choose the right server, I’d recommend to read a few threads about the following keywords:
Roaming.
Zerging.
Blobbing.
GvG’s.
Karma Train.

Top tier Servers (gold-league) usually have a huge playerbase, leading to ques on their actual WvW maps (you still can enter eotm – “Edge of the mist” which is a unranked overflow map, ruled by power-levelers and Karma-Trains, doing nothing but Objective-flipping for loot / karma / badges / wxp and xp). Due to their big playerbase, most Servers on the top tend to blobb up and have lag-heavy large-scale encounters 24/7. Roaming does exist to a certain extend, but usually ends in being steamrolled by a bypassing zerg or blobb.
PvD (player vs door) is the prefered method to take objectives, and the advertised besiegments of giant keeps always never happens. Either they kick in the door and take it, or they fail horribly.

On the lower end (bronze-league) you have mostly desolted maps, bare of any players. Here and there a guild-group can be seen during prime-time (usually from 4pm-1am), but most people simply solo-roam, flip supply-camps and are subject to stomps against slightly larger groups from all the servers above them who “out-blobb” them. Occasionally you will have enjoyable fights, making smart use of siege, but most of the time the maps are simply empty.

In the middle you have Silver-league, which has a strong prime-time, that almost always forms blobbs that barely fill the map-que, and have many roamers and guild-groups in the off-hours to downgrade other Servers’ stuff and defend their own.
Upgrades do matter, and fights for objectives can last from 10min to several hours. The downside is that the servers in Silver-league have usually still a rather small, but more active community, which leads to coverage issues that is heavy exploited by the other servers who tend to be strong to exactly that time.
My server f.e. has a strong prime-time & nightcapping crew, but we lack numbers in the early morning and around noon. Therefore you will often earn nothing but frustration if all your efforts are gone down into the sink the next time you log in, because no one was there to hold it when the other servers grabbed your stuff.

So there you go.
Low tier is a roamer paradise, given that you don’t care if your server looses the week
silver tier offers a bit to everybody.
gold tier is a blobber-paradise, giving you a good chance for much loot or becomming a loot-bag for others.
Then again, eotm already is a loot-fest, accessible for all Servers equally.

Tiered discussion on No White Swords

in WvW

Posted by: Arantheal.7396

Arantheal.7396

T7 EU here (currently in a all – T7 matchup)
Nightcapping: we have all – 695 tick, every night.
Since one server appears to be rather weak, and both go to sleep to roughly the same time, we dominate in ppt, and the sword /ppk changes have no impact there.
Primetime: blue pushes hard, and tends to blobb up, but if they don’t, we have even fights, mostly in our favor. We got a nice ppk farm yesterday, and compensated our lack of ppt in primetime quite easily. Later that night blue did smart up, breached outer bay on our homeborder with 3 guildgroups + pugblobb and only attempted in half-hearted attacks on inner gates, to bate our whole server into bay eventually. They were splitting and slaying us on multiple spots in the outer ringer of bay, farming a proud amount of kills. We eventually decided to give up the defense, since we would loose more points in ppk, than bay was worth in ppt. The rest of the evening we spend with splitting their forces with simultaneous attacks on their keeps, to get our fair share of ppk’s as well. Since all T7 servers have a good load of roamers, nothing felt different because our groups were mostly scouted, as we would know them incomming as well, so removing swords had – again – no impact.
this morning:
I was the only guy on EB this moring (literally alone) only accompanied by a red engi and a blue guardian, I myself was on engi as well.
While the guardian would just run around and flip sentries (easy kill, thx for the full-bloodlust stomps, whoever you were ), the engi would give away his position by clearing the mercenary camps first before going into a camp, therefore it was quite easy to predict which camp was attacked by him as well (again, thx for the full bloodlust stomps).
Even tho I had no white swords to tell where they were, keeping a eye on the map and just asking myself “what would I do” was more than enough to maintain EB in a green state so far.

So far the only negative aspect I expirienced is that we intentionally gave up a keep to end the ppk farming for them, but since we got our share eventually as well + no-swords makes roaming / defending more challenging, I’m quite pleased with the changes so far, and would not mind if they become permanent.

It isn’t just a problem for power levellers. I have a level 80 with world completion, who I kill world bosses with and have done EotM with, and I still have only a fraction of the traits unlocked, and not even my full build.

I know a lot of people are comfortable with the trait system, but as someone who likes alts, and used to like levelling, I find it close to game-breaking.

have you spend skill-points and gold, accumulated from worldbosses / map-completion /eotm to unlock missing traits from your class-trainer?

Also, to the fanbois defending ANet for punishing players like this, What if someone already experienced all the content on another character?

See my post above for solutions

Leveling trough dungeons isn’t viable since ANet punishes doing dungeons,

Wat? 1up per dungeon, sp-scrolls from chests, enough loot to fill up your collectibles quite fast…

renown hearts are just boring fetch quests or “kill X” quests.

They include this option, yes, because some actually like to faceroll and spam 1 through PvE only, but usually they offer more than enough additional tasks to complete them with. Actually, some hearts even punish you for just killing mobs since the additional tasks would fill your progress bar much faster.

In case you didn’t know, Dungeons have a diminishing returns system, so even if you manage to find a party that wants you, among the “zerker speedrun exp only”, you can only do it once before the rewards stop being meaningful.

Except that you can run all available paths a day for full rewards, you still get the champion bags (loot / slavagable materials / skillpoints) after that, and you still get 1up per additional run.
Yes, the return in badges and gold will be reduced after the 1st run per path, but for leveling reasons I don’t see a problem there.

IF you’re level 80, you can run all paths.
IF you manage to find a party that wants you.
I said leveling, yeah you can run all paths once you’ve unlocked all paths, but someone who’s level 30-35 will always be rejected for wanting to run a CoA path just because he isn’t 80, zerker, etc…
And the XP is reduced as well, don’t try to ignore that, when I ran SE P1 twice the XP i got went down by 15% easily.

Sorry, I was not entirely clear.
With “all available paths” I was referring to those available for a low-level character to that time.
And yes, the xp-reward will get reduced – slightly. -15% are still +85% towards the next lvlup.

edit: also about the lfg:
Yes, it can be a problem for a low-lvl to find a party, but that is an entirely different problem, spawned by the players (and their speed-run attitude), not by a-net directly.
I personally only run dungeons with guildies so I don’t really had any issues with dungeon-leveling.

Thank you for expressing it regardless.

Even though this is the right attitude to have, most people here will hate you for saying this. All opinions and statements here must be of praise towards Arenanet and critique isn’t welcome.

It’s sad that legitimate critique in a FORUM (noun, a place, meeting, or medium where ideas and views on a particular issue can be exchanged.) gets called “whining” and “complaining”. I guess this is the audience ANet wants?

I’m sorry, but I fail to see where I disregard all facts and praise a-net for doing something obviously awful.
I’ve provided a sound argument, filled with reason as to why OP’s situation must be self-induced, due to lack of planning or information, both factors of which a-net can not be held accountable for.
Do I like the new system?
Hell no, I find it frekkin awful to do all these tedious processes.
But just because I don#t like it, it does not magically let the fact disappear that it is not broken. It is just tedious for power-levelers (which I am, as well).

To unlock all traits you need 360 skill-points and 43g in total

Gold:
- You should have plenty from PvP by now, so there you go
Skillpoints:
- You get additional 76sp just from leveling up
- You have a rather high chance to loot scrolls (1 skillpoint each) from PvP chests, which you get more frequent than levelups, so that’s roughly 3 skillpoints per levelup from pvp chests, which grants you ~240sp

So, you don’t plan on using any of those skill points for things like…I dunno…SKILLS?

Read my post again.
a) I mentioned using them for unlocking needed skills for a PvE / WvW builds. With ~316 skillpoints you have plenty to unlock not only 1 but around 3 similar build variants, or 2 very different ones.
b) for PvP only, this point is mute since all skills / traits (w/o XIII traits) are unlocked there automatically, so you have no need to unlock them, until you have decided what build you wanna run in WvW once you’ve hit 80. And once you have your starter build, you farm the rest of the skillpoints in roughly 2 days (I currently end up with around 30-40sp scrolls per day)

If spend wisely, you now can unlock all traits needed for certain builds + unlocking the proper utility skills
Since you also crafted, you should have access to proper gear as well.

So, if one of the last 2 statements is not true, you
a) wasted your gold on useless skins
b) used your skillpoints to crafter other stuff (gold-conversion)
c) Didn’t think ahead when power-leveling and wasted your scrolls on your main, or other toons

Solutions:
- Unlock a basic build, farm eotm
- Unlock a basic build, run dungeons
- Continue with complaining here

Alternatively farm them as guild events.
Every day me and a couple of guildies strip naked (both ingame and IRL for the lulz), have one ele dropping the mazebalm in Queensdale and multiply our profit since 5-10 ppl profit from one and the same mazebalm charge each time.
Our guildbank is stocked with siege, mazebalm and around 3k gold (excess everyone agreed to spend, to centraly buy mazebalm in stock), just from doing this daily a month long.

I don’t understand OP’s post, at least not from my personal POV.
I’ve met a couple of newbies over the last months and I always took my time to explain them stuff, give them tips or running content with them.
I enjoy a chilled faceroll far more than speedrun, so I don’t mind to bring 2 or more new players into it. The same attitude is widely spready troughrough my whole guild as well.
I don’t even try to recruit them, unless they directly ask for an invite, and playing with and knowing the rest of RoScomm personally, I don’t see a reason why a whole Server should be so dramatically different to all the others.
Be it [AT], or the other guilds, we have supportive people spread all over Ruins of Surmia from what I know.
So if you really have that huge issues with your current one, you maybe should consider to transfer, or join a less hostile guild.

MMh,never had problems with retaliation.
Ofc,if ppls mindless spam 11-1-1-1-1-1- on melee train they have retaliation problem.
My skill #1 does 700 dmg,my skill number 2 does 1300 dmg.
So,instead of spam 1-1-1-1-1-,it’s better use #2-#4-#5-granade barriege with a bit of brain.

Err…
you kinda contradict yourself there.
retaliation applies dmg to you if you hit a retal-buffed target.
it does not matter if you spam 1 or use a propper rota, since each of them are 3 grenades with a 5-target cap. Even tho you will pratically barely reach it, this is a potential 15-hit chain of retal with every grenade-attack. on grenade-barrage that goes up to 35 potential targets.
retal usually hits you between 220-290, so worst case that are 15×290 dmg comming right to your face with every grenade attack, that you can’t dodge, block or avoid with invuln. (it will hit regardless)

the only thing that lets you survive is that nades are a range-based attack, so you don’t get focused with more dmg usually, and have time to heal up. Regardless, your healthbar suddenly behaves like a energy-bar, that goes down with every attack, forces you to pop defensive cd’s more often and decreases your overall effectiveness by a wide margin. Worst case is a random attack hitting you, while your nades are in the air towards the melee-train, since that usually results in inevitable downstate.

Leason learned: never attempt to attack the train with nades. Go for the backline instead, which also suffers from a lack of cleanse, hence condi-nades (which come along with naturally higher survivability anyways).

Yea, about the story achievements:
Don’t bother with them.
I did them for the 1st or 2nd release of season 2, but decided that all the repetitive dialogue, without any option for good loot is not worth it.
there are other options to farm AP for me currently, so I rather complete those and don’t give a flying F about story-achievements.
The Story itself is fine IMO, but I can’t be bothered to be forced into the same dialogue multiple times for a tedious, low-AP achievement.
I guess I will complete them for the original personal story, once released, since you can skip dialogues quite easily there.

why would you run nades then?
retal kills you, regardless if power or not.

if you want to join a raid as engi, you have the option to condi-focus the backline with the build above (the backline has nowhere near as much cleans or retal as the melee-train), s/d zerker, or cleric bomb-healer (your only legit melee-option).

Sure, there are some tanky FT builds, but apart from tagging they can’t do anything.
For roaming (or really small scale) I can understand power-nades, but even there, condi-nades perform better…

Ascended - Account Bound?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Arantheal.7396

I don’t see the reason for complaining…
you had the advantage of all-ascended on all your characters earlier than others, so that’s totally fair. Just be happy that new people will now perform as good as you in your raid even more early, so it does not take ages for a newby in your guild to wreck havoc together with you.

and about the badges:
you spend 300g for 3 badges, that you could use on all your main characters
others have to grind 300g now to even start using them.
also people who had more than 3 badges on their account got a refund. 100g for every badge more than three.
you got fair treatment, and your farming was rewarding to that time. Also you still posses the convenience to not have to send your gear per mail every time you relog onto another character.

From my POV there is no reason for this thread, other than " I hate that other people have a more easy access to the game than I had in the beginning"

bolam I highly recommend you to change your schedule.
Don’t hunt achievements, they come to you.
In fractals f.e. I unlocked all possible achiviements, just by doing 1 or 2 runs in a week, together with my guild and sometimes suggestions were made like “hey, why not kill all chickens while we’re at it” or " Harpy-run: Who makes it alive to the other side first, gets 1g". We were doing them just for kittens and giggles, and completet them eventually all. Same with other areas of the game, like map-completion. “Up for a jumping puzzle? One is around this area”
If you only do things you’re eager for, you get spammed with loot anyways, which converts to gold, which you can convert to crafting materials. Use the crafting guide, already mentioned above, and complete a profession from 0-400 in a couple of minutes. If you plan to craft ascended stuff, wait a bit longer and bring it up to 500 eventually.
Use the /wiki function to look into expensive items before you purchase them. Saves you a lot of headaches. The wiki also provides lists with merchants for karma / wvw badges / fractal relics, so you can check where to get stuff you want on a cheaper, alternative way, instead of spending gold on the TP.
MMO’s are complex, and their tutorials are often limited, therefore the wiki to the game will always be your best friend, which is true for ALL MMO’s out there.

Just some general tipps.

Actually, that would be a good idea for legendary armor.
crafting the pieces should actually be less expensive as to craft a legendary, but rquires to craft each slot for its own (separate head / chest / a.s.o.). What you get then is “eternal” armor with no stats nor runes. You can meld it with your already existing exotic armor to unlock its ascended stats with it (drag & drop), while also melding it with all kinds of runes (drag & drop) that you’ll be able to hotswap on the item from then on forth (double-click for opening the interface on it).
Make eternal Armor acc-bound and everybody has a new armor-set he’ll want to craft, a new farmfest to QQ about, and a new opportunity to cash in t6 mats.
To reduce the QQ a bit, you could make it into the first universal-slot item, so every class can wear it, regardless what armor-type they wear. Once they equip eternal armor, it will automatically generate the proper armor-value for the class (light to light / medium to medium / heavy to heavy) as long as it is equipped.

Profit (literally).

Or craft your omegas with it.
Or stock your guild-bank with free siege.

Seriously, if you sit on a stockpile of badges, you’re doing something wrong.
30k badges you say?
that’s ~300g in alphas on the TP.
All it requires is a click-fest at the siege-merchant, that you can complete in 5min if you align the confirmation-prompt with the alphas in the vendor-window.

if you don’t have guild, buy a guild-cata from the TP and make your way towards the POI or Vista.

except that we already have a small beta /alpha-testing group, and the market is not really impacted by that as well.
Also, my proposal is a public test-server, so everybody would have at least the option to get that info. Which in its own may be already enough motivation to actually check by on it, therefore being a solution to Yuki’s concerns.

Tbh, in my opinion the concept behind Eotm is totally fine, they simply did not get the expected player-base.
PPT-ers feel actually ashamed when having to enter eotm since they know they don’t contribute to their server.
GvG-ers can’t use it since they mostly end up on the wrong instances of the match and are locked to it once they entered it once (unless it overflows in the meantime)
Roamers actually like to troll there, and occasionally get some nice duels.
And the rest are mostly PvE’ers or Upscaled that just run it for karma / xp / wxp / badges. Same goes for the commanders there, even tho some do it for so long, that they actually became pretty good at it.

So yea, everybody is just k-training 24/7 there, or trolling people with cc’s
The map itself is totally fine, but will not be used ever for serious competitive game-play since all PPT’ers will rather support their actual Server, which was a kinda foreseeable aspect of Eotm. But in its attempt to become a time-filler for people stuck in a map-Que, it totally succeeded.

I think Gw2 would benefit greatly from a Test-Server that could be used to benchmark new content in terms of Server-Stability, Bug-testing, and general balance changes.

STO for example has their main-megaserver “Holodeck” and their Test-megaserver “Tribble”, that people can choose to log on to via the game-launcher to pre-view the new content and help their devs to polish it.

If a-net would consider to expand their QA-Team with a crew that maintains and observes what actual impact balance-changes or new content will have, the developers would have a much better feedback for implementing stuff that actually withstands a crazy horde of players, all rushing the same content^^
Furthermore one could set up WvW test events on a weekly schedule to live-test small changes in the WvW rules, or monthly, bigger events with bigger content-changes (like parts of a new map / new siege / new objectives, a.s.o.)
Such a public test-server would also help to live-test class-balance changes before they are made permanent and therefore open up a faster, more evolutionary balance process, that not only involves the opinion, but also the experience of the community, expressed on a proper sub-Forum for this cause (Don’t bring back class-balancing, but introduce a general Test-Server Subforum then).

I have no idea if the File-Structure of the Gw2 client would even allow a alternative Server, paralleled to the actual game, but if it is technical possible, I’d really like to hear your opinion about it, a-net.

Gonna throw my Engi into the poll as well.
I never played Gw1, and are not really lore-savy, so I just give you his general character-description.

Name: Toxotronic
Race: Human
Class: Engineer
Alignment: Chaotic Neutral

Nobody knows his real name, so they just call him Toxo. That’s one of the first Names Pact-recruits will hear on their arrival in the Silver-wastes, along with a warning to stay as far away from him as possible.
The Pact has no idea why this maniac decided to roam the Mordrem-infested lands of the Maguuma wastes, but ever since the Pact arrived, their scouts reported a crazy, old Engineer that would lay bombs and mines to blow whole canyons up, as soon as Mordrem vines would breach the Ground.
Most of the time he would at least shout angrily on people, who were about to enter his makeshift minefields, but more than often enough whole dolyak caravans fell prey to his explosive traps.
The Pact decided to ignore him after a couple of failed attempts to catch him, which resulted in a platoon of pact-soldiers being trapped in a blackpowder-induced cave-in for 2 days, the loss of not less than 3 pact air-ships, and Trahearne’s favorite mug to a well placed warning-shot from Toxo’s rifle.
Since these rather unpleasant encounters, Toxo actually gathered some positive fame for saving a Pact-outpost from a Mordrem Breach. He ran up to it, throwing grenades right into it, while keeping the hordes of Mordrem, that would crawl out of it, with his trusty Flamethrower in check. Right in the moment when the breach opened again to spill big, thorny vines, Toxo blew up a load, attached to a cliff above this maw to crush and bury it alive again.
When the Soldiers came down from the outposts walls to thank him, he just shrugged them off and left with the words “Not gonna let my nice lawn getting ruined by Mords’ pesky moles”. Since that day, they call him the “Mad Gardener”.

[Suggestion] legendary mats in login rewards

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

+1 for account bound.

Account bound precursors from this would crash the market and cause all of the other ingredients for legend arises to skyrocket.

Do you really think that 1 precursor on a year worth of daily logins (which might very well be more than 1 year in actual terms, for most people) would alter the market so much? I… don’t really think so.

About the “let’s get something for doing nothing” reply: yeah we’re getting that already, so why not something that a lot of people would actually go for? :P

What happens when a large percentage of the player base starts getting their precursors a year or so from now?

Simple, the demand on T6 and lodestones would skyrocket.
Looted Precursors would become as worthy as a common named exotic, so up to 100g-200g at best.
Smart people will earn ridiculous amounts of gold (farm/craft T6 now, store, unleash when the price skyrockets)
Farmers will earn a good amount of gold.
That also increases the number of people capable of Market Manipulation, which causes spike-prizes on unexpected itmes, will eventually increase the gold-inflation rate, therefore up the price for gems even faster and ruin the game for those who started late, and didn’t get their share somewhere else.

That is just a worst-case scenario, but I’m sure a-net will compensate for this with more LS-gold-sinks, if they actually hand out precursors (which is not officially confirmed anywhere, as of yet).

Rule change Madness

Gonna quote myself from the other thread here
(why do we have so many threads about one and the same topic? -.-)

I am confident that these changes will improve the WvW experience for many people that don’t like the brainless karma train.

Except removing white swords only makes karma training easier.

except that it doesn’t.

I guess they don’t want us to mention server names, so a short situational explanation before I go into my actual argument:

Server A (my home):
Low pop (upper end bronze) outside of prime-time, many dedicated defenders, tho. Many small guilds (10-15) as well, and during primetime most of them perform rather well. Also we always have at least one pug-commander on EB, which we call over to Home if we need to defend, while guild-groups + roamers focus Enemy Borders.

Server B (current matchup):
Outnumbers us vastly to all times (middle-low tier Silver). Does not even care to scout and k-train 24/7. Additionally they have 2 small guild-groups during prime-time, hopping maps and ganking other guild-groups exclusively (we’ve never seen them to try to attack a structure since friday ( first time that we’re matched up against B )), luckely we are mostly even numbers, but they interfere with and delay all our efforts during prime, which enables the k-train to rush in and clear almost all attacks on their stuff before we can make it to the lord.
Thus they have t3 keeps almost all week long, even tho their k-train does not put a single foot in their homeborder unless some WP is contested.

Server C:
Upper tier bronze as well, gets steamrolled, just like us (even harder since there is some personal Yadda Yadda going on between C and B ).

So, IF we would not have white swords, we could flip their towers + camps without Server B noticing it in time, crush their PPT and out-maneuver their k-train vastly. That would even allow us to downgrade their keeps even before it gets a wp (no contested wp to notice a siege cross-map).
Additionally we already have dedicated defenders on Server A who still upgrade and siege stuff, even while this karma-blobb is around (and actually scares them off from time to time), so our performance would not be impacted in the slightest.
Same goes for C, which also have their eco on a green footing.

I welcome this change, and would really like to see how Server B’s k-train / gank-squads reacts to this situation.
