Good for GW2! Maybe they are finally listening to people about the RNG garbage.

Against. I might be for it if the colors were reasonable or limited to metal colors or something. This game is already becoming an eye sore and going against the original art style. It’s starting to look like a bunch of people raided a toy store and went out to defend Tyria.

I spent 30 bucks on rich coffers and opened 120g+ worth of reg boxes to get ONE staff skin which upon equipping I found I really disliked how it looked on my char. Jokes on me.

Anyways, never had a precursor drop and never will. That is just how my luck is. Make them attainable by a long grind…fine. But entirely based on RNG? I will never get a drop if so.

I quit playing after the Flame and Frost final event because I seen the way things were starting to go. Just waiting it out now to see if they change.

Since then I have spent 20.00$ on X3 Terran Conflict War pack, 20.00$ on Mars: War Logs, 18.00$ on Shadowrun Returns pre-order, 10.00$ on Funcom points for a ninja costume in The Secret World, and 20.00$ in the Rift store.

So I spent 88.00$ on games in that short time that I would have gladly put into this game had I known what I was getting rather than RNG. Not only are they losing my money but my interest.

sure drops where RNG but they always eventually dropped

And that is the problem right now. The drops won’t always eventually drop. They are limited, usually two week events. They are just pumping out these skimpy events and saying BUY NOW before it’s too late! Same with the limited time offers in the store on items and those goofy little pets.

The content is just not worth the high price of having a chance at getting skins.

The RNG is ruining my enjoyment of the game. I want to deck out all my gear in Jade weapons because they look great.

But to do so I have to shell how much money on a CHANCE for ONE? Just let me buy the darn skins. I’ll gladly pay 5 bucks for each skin.

But no, we gotta have gambling instead because suckers fall for it and makes Anet…I mean NCSoft more money.

You just gotta bite the bullet and not support it. More people are starting to catch on to what they are doing. The outcry is getting larger on the issue. I suggest just trying to enjoy the game and ignore the skins and events until they are forced to change.

But you do care about opinion. It was yours that was expressed so vehemently that started the discussion. It was a comparison of opinion, and the percentage of players that expressed theirs was much more favorable than yours.

You don’t make any sense anymore now. What I said is not an opinion, it’s facts. You can’t pretend some flawed statistic source is somehow right, and that’s not an opinion. Even if you stomp your feet pretending the white horse in the field is black for weeks, the horse remains white.

What did you say that was fact? This whole conversation about Darkfall being garbage started over your opinion of it. Then me disagreeing somewhat because I felt it was a niche game that deserved a little more do than that. I simply showed you some other opinions on it. I never said they were fact. Opinions aren’t facts.

I don’t think Darkfall is better than GW2. I’m pretty sure I alluded to that a couple of times. I definitely wasn’t comparing it’s popularity or commercial value to any of the larger themepark MMOs. Those two things don’t make an MMO great either though.

This is just a difference of opinion, and I’ll leave you to yours.

There’s no opinions at stake here, only production value and quality. If you argue that amateur stuff like Darkfall is even remotely close to GW2’s production quality and value, then you don’t have any kind of credibility. That’s not opinion… yeah, you’re going to have to accept that, in the world, some things are not opinions, but hard, cold facts.
Just like, you know… 10 is more than 5. Your opinion may be that 5 is more than 10, yet you are wrong.

By all means do quote me on where I compared their production quality or value. The only time I said anything about production quality or value with Darkfall was pointing out they had a far lower budget to work with. Don’t make things up.

Why did you say WoW was the first MMORPG?

There must be a reading comprehension problem on your side here. I never said that. I said it was the “world’s first”, as in “the most popular”, or also “the game with the most players”.
You know, just like “Novak Djokovic” is the world’s first tennis player. It doesn’t mean he was the first person in the world to play tennis.

Most people that have played the game and took the time to rank it have a favorable view of it.

And those who didn’t play it or didn’t like it didn’t bother going on that site to vote negatively because they have better things to do, like playing games they enjoy.

I guess the same could be said for the other games on the list? Or just that one?

Of course. That list is totally worthless, for all games, including GW2 (which is ranked number 2). It definitely doesn’t even remotely reflect reality.

Depends on what you’re looking for. If you don’t put much on player opinion and care more about which box sold more I guess it wouldn’t mean much.

I don’t care for player opinion when the stats are obviously biased towards those who like the product. The population voting on those mmorpg.com ratings is definitely not representative of any general tendency. Just look at the amount of voters… some games have 1000+ voters, other barely 200, others not even 100. Talk about worthless data.

But you do care about opinion. It was yours that was expressed so vehemently that started the discussion. It was a comparison of opinion, and the percentage of players that expressed theirs was much more favorable than yours.

Well, I leave you to your opinion then, but most people don’t agree with you in it being trash.
http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/show/released/sCol/finalRank/sOrder/desc

Nice try, saying “most” people.

Just ratings don’t mean much. Even so, take a close look at how many ratings those games have, Darkfall has 260 and Guild Wars 2 has 1008. I think it’s fairly obvious who is the winner (by a very long shot) and how much of a difference there is here. I wonder if Darkfall ever had 1000 ratings how high ranked it would’ve been.

Most people that have played the game and took the time to rank it have a favorable view of it.

And even more people that played Guild Wars 2 (and other games on the list) have a favorable view for those – a LOT more people.

You can find a review that gives a 9/10 on a video game on Gamerankings, that doesn’t mean it will be on the top list if it only has a limited amount of reviews, and there is a good reason for that.

Player percentages. GW2 is in it’s right place. It’s a great game compared to what’s currently on the market.

the world’s first MMORPG World of Warcraft?

No debating with a guy that thinks that. How long did you say you were around software and development?

25+ years, and also playing MMORPGs since UO early beta 17+ years ago (and MUDs before that, too). I was developing professional graphic software on a Commodore Amiga when most people here didn’t even know personal computers existed.

Like it or not, WoW is still the most popular MMORPG of the planet. You don’t need to like WoW to acknowledge that. It’s just like that movie, Avatar… even if you don’t like the movie, it’s still the highest grossing movie of all times. Your personal opinion doesn’t matter, and neither does mine. Facts are facts, and numbers are numbers.

I see where our opinions differentiate then. Popularity trumps personal taste in your opinion. McDonalds was a fair comparison then seeing as that franchise feeds more and pulls in more on a day around the world than that gourmet restaurant does.

I know exactly what production quality is as well as production value. They are independent developers doing things on far less of a budget. A niche game that you don’t like. Regardless of your opinion on it they are doing fairly well with what they have and are competing with the current top MMOs.

I don’t like Darkfall myself, but just hate seeing people slam independent developers into the ground for trying to create something other than the usual copy paste MMOs.

Sorry, but being an indy developer doesn’t excuse the production of overpriced trash. There are indy devs who produce quality games… and thankfully many are rewarded for it. One good example would be Minecraft. But there are others, like aventurine (the Darkfail developers), who produce trash and ask more money for it than what AAA developers ask for their high quality games. They are obviously trying to milk unsuspecting buyers who indeed are attracted by “something different”… but sadly, being different doesn’t always mean quality. Would Darkfail be free to play, with a cash shop, I would be less harsh, but it isn’t… those guys think they can sell their trash the same price than top quality games and then also ask an as high monthly sub as top quality games too.

I don’t slam independent developers for trying to make something new. I slam them for creating overpriced trash which gives a bad name to the whole MMORPG genre.

It’s also amusing that you think that “they are doing fairly well with what they have and are competing with the current top MMOs”. Thankfully, that’s not even remotely close to be true. To be competing with the current top MMOs, they would need at least a 10x bigger player base, and that’s just to appear at the bottom of the list.

Well, I leave you to your opinion then, but most people don’t agree with you in it being trash.

Comparing Darkfall with GW2 is a bit like comparing the bottom of the trash container of a fast food with the best dish of a gourmet restaurant… the first is a pile of junk made by amateurs, and the second is a quality product made by top notch professionals.

So true. One is definitely like a fast food restaurant. Fast, easy, cheap garbage food and they give you a happy meal toy too. They even have funny mascots similar to Hamburglar, Grimace, Ronald McDonald and Sundae his dog, and Birdie the Early bird.

Nice attempt at being smart, but quite silly too and a total failure at the end. Have you ever played Darkfall or its sequel?
The software is a pile of bugged junk, the game is a gankfest without any content. Comparing it to quality games like GW2, but also to any other AAA MMORPG (recent or older ones), is hilarious. You don’t compare a Traban with a Ferrari and pretend the Traban is better quality unless you want to be laughed at.

The only outrageously laughable comparison here is the one you made for GW2 being comparable to a gourmet restaurant or a Ferrari. Absolutely hilarious.

Darkfall may be a Tijuana taco stand, but GW2 is still a fast food restaurant.

You obviously have no clue about what production quality is. I’m not talking as a GW2 player, but as a software engineer myself for the last 25 years. GW2, but also WoW and many other games are definitely Ferrari quality software pieces compared to junk like Darkfall… or shall I say Darkfail.
Just compare EvE online to Darkfall then… both being supposed sandboxes (supposed for Darkfail, it’s more a gankfest than a sandbox) with a heavy PvP part. The difference of quality is huge. One (Darkfail) is a pile of crap made by amateurs, the other (EvE) is top quality software made by professionals.
EvE, GW2, WoW, etc… are in a totally different league than crap like Darkfail, in every aspect, be it technical, artistic or content wise.
So the OP not being happy with Darkfail isn’t really a surprise to me.

You may want to ask why I’m so negative about Darkfail… well, simple, those guys are trying to sell a pile of junk ($40) with a monthly subscription fee ($15) when you have 100% free to play games which have a hugely better production quality. This disgusts me not only as a professional, but also as a video game player.

I know exactly what production quality is as well as production value. They are independent developers doing things on far less of a budget. A niche game that you don’t like. Regardless of your opinion on it they are doing fairly well with what they have and are competing with the current top MMOs.

3. So GW2 doesn’t PLAY like a Korean Grinder, according to you

This is good, no?

What was your original intention then, choosing the word “looks like” as opposed to “play like?”

The overall aesthetic the game is starting to take on with a lot the store items and other things being added.. They are very corny and more like the things you find in Korean grinders.

That’s pretty funny.

There’s no proof. There’s theory based on slanted evidence, made up by people who don’t like the game. People said the same crap about WoW years ago. You’d almost think you’d never been to an MMO forum before.

Anyway, I’m sure someone will end up reporting you for getting personal. Frankly I thought it was funny, but you might want to edit it before you get an infraction.

I didn’t think it was personal, but I don’t think anyone reads the posts anyway, I’m pretty sure the infraction system is completely computer controlled.

I really don’t care other than the clogging up of my inbox every time someone takes offense to a relatively mild comment, even by this forums standards.

In today’s politically correct world, I have resigned myself to knowing that telling someone they should do something or research something themselves instead of having others do it for them is an insult.

EDIT to clear the earlier post so this comment won’t be deleted for referencing a deleted comment. /rollseyes.

You sir are a true hero of the community. More people should wise up and bash the dragon so we can get our game back to what it was.

Both of you are one of the true heroes of the community. We (community) appreciate the work and effort you put into convincing NCsoft, oops the consortium, to change it’s evil ways. Without your efforts the forums would be full of trashy, silly and idiotic rants of Vayne and his evil allies in the fight against the consortium.

I am sure sooner or later, you group of heroes shall conqueror Vayne and his evil allies against in the battle for the future of guild wars 2.

There’s some things like housing and mounts that I hope to see in GW2 someday, but other things like raiding that would make me quit immediately.

Agreed! Now if Anet would give us Professions and skills like we had in GW in the open world of GW2 then you would have a game that is not faltering and on verge of loosing it’s playerbase.

I would love to see that, but these guys can’t even balance the very little they have now. It’s pretty sad really and it would be a disaster if the current team of devs tried it.

So... how's that temporary content going?

Thank you for the insight, everyone.

I think the person who seems most like me in this thread is Seras; although it looks like you’ve stuck with it, and I’m giving it a break.

I certainly don’t mind mini-games or non-combat-content, but it seems like GW2 might be focusing on that to the exclusion of the real meat and potatoes of RPG’s. I didn’t go through 80 levels of questing and learn 30+ different skills/spells so I could kick a Dragonball. :/

For me, an MMO’s main content needs to work within its own system. I want newer and more challenging events. That doesn’t have to always mean bosses — although raid bosses are awesome — it can mean exploring trap-laden dungeons, scripted events, and other stuff. I do not want a gear treadmill. However, some form of character progress is tkittenence of an MMO. Appearance items and skins only go so far for me.

Maybe I do belong on WoW or RIFT. I dunno. I’ll check back in a month or two, maybe.

Rift is off the chart right now. Good luck getting in. I had a queue for almost 6 hours yesterday. It also had almost 4k viewers on twitchtv earlier. Way too many flocking there right now.

That list is a joke. They have Neverwinter at #3.

Nothing they said in that Video holds true to the Guildwars 2 today, bar the Art direction, everything else is not true..

Not even the art. If I had seen players jumping around with purple hair, fuzzy bear hats, princess wands, and tigger backpacks in that video, I would have passed.

Focus on the gem-store bad for the game?

So the mini is ‘stuff from the gems’? But yeah you can buy stuff from the CE with the gems.

And you can buy the mini’s with gems too. They are in the store now. Wasn’t like we got some special unique reward like early access and a Rytlock toy.

Do you really not get it? You payed for those gems and got those gems + something extra. I paid for the Rytlock toy + early access and got the Rytlock toy + early access. The reason why we both did buy more then ‘needed’ was because of the things we did buy (gems, Rytlock toy) and partly (at least for me) for some extra support. You got a “thank you” for that extra support CE support did not. That is rude. And ingame the CE buyers did not get anything unique. Personally I think the reason they did this is 1 just a mistake.. simply forgot about the CE buyers and 2th because of the gem-store focus lately and that is becoming more and more of a problem in the game imho. So that brings you to the underlaying problem of that. But I did say enough about that in other comments so leave it to that.

I get you just fine. You are complaining over a purchase 10+ months old and still wanting free stuff for it. I guess everyone gets a round of free pets since we all supported the game and bought it in one shape or another.

So I was at E3 today and came across this...

One of the major points in the Guild Wars 2 manifesto is that this is a game that you can play how you want.

No it was not.

When was the last time you watched that video? A year ago? Because I just watched it and at no point was the phrase “you can play how you want to play” ever uttered. Nor anything similar. The whole video was about fun content, not methods of play nor rewards. It spoke of grind, but Colin said, and I quote “the rest of the game is this boring grind to get to the fun stuff” did you catch that? “To get to the fun stuff.” It wasn’t talking about grinding for mats or rewards, it was talking about grinding to unlock content.

I think everyone who has been bringing up that video of late needs to take six minutes to actually watch the kitten ed thing.

That video makes me sad. Watching that video and remembering how epic this game was at release. What the hell are these guys doing now?

Mostly temp content, nerfs, 8bit puzzles, purple hairdos, bee dogs with digital booty holes, fuzzy bear hats, cute animal backpacks, holographic dragon wings, RNG events designed to milk people. You make something epic like that and have a clown party all over it.
