Thursday’s Guard team, if you guys want to party up for some tpvp practice, let me know. I’ll be free later today and Wednesday usually after 6pmEST
What’s your twitch account Arc?
Guardian is the class to be if you like the feeling of ‘I can survive anything’. The major con is lack of build variety. But if you like supporting your teammates and being able to withstand most (if not all) pve can throw at you, I’d go with Guard.
This sounds like a good deal for those of us who have limited friends to hook up with. I’m always up for learning more and meeting people. Would like an invite.
Got your name down! Look forward to meeting you in game soon ^^

I’d use greater marks on my necro, but I hate the ugly little things that spawn going into that line. So unfortunately have to man up to the small marks but due to high cd it’s more of drop marks really quick into dagger offense.
So we really need a separate site for EU players, or people need to start posting whether this is an NA or EU tournament :P
@ArcTheFallen: Can I get an invite? (NA) I think this is a great idea to have a database of players to form teams. Trying to improve and tired of solo queues, and my main guild is almost entirely focused on PVE.
Hey Jason! Np. I will add you when I get back from work. Also this is a no-rep guild, so you can still be a part of your PVE if you want, and you’ll be able to see who’s online and available to tpvp by looking at who’s online in the Academy (which most of us are loitering in HOTM). Hope to be able to play some games with you later~
I think the only reason why mesmers aren’t nerfed is because although they are strong 1v1 — and phantasm mesmers are almost impossible to beat — they don’t have enough of an advantage to be considered nerfing. They might have a good advantage, but not game changing as noted by the recent ele nerfs.
It would be nice to have some more EU players to collaborate, I sent an invite to the people who posted earlier, but anyone is welcomed. I encourage all members to leverage the ‘lfg’ status to let others know you’d like to tpvp or just whisper whoever is online. It’s good that everyone has gotten along real well so far.
I managed to rally a 5 member team and won 4 games in a row. I somehow ended up staying late and ended up sparring with members Pim and Annie. Let me say, I’ve never had the chance the actually learn how a phantasm mesmer works until now—Looking forward to figuring how to overcome them.
@ArcTheFallen :
It was for anyone who needs help
Haha ok, that works :P. Alright guys, I looked into the VOIP server programs and I’m considering TeamSpeak 3. I have my own hosting service so I will run off it for now and I’ll make backup plans to pass it on to someone willing if I ever step down from gw2 (which won’t be in the near future but always good to have). If I get it setup tonight I’ll let you guys know!
I am right there with ya. I would really like to get into Tpvp but to be completely honest I do not feel welcomed going in, not knowing all the proper map mechanics, what my role should be on any given map and finding players to group with who will be patient and or teach me the ropes so not to be such a burden to any given team I am a part of whether group or solo queue. Youtube videos, forum advice, and hotjoins will only take you so far, you actually need to get your hands dirty and play Tpvp to get good at it and that does not feel like a welcoming option available for newer pvp’ers.
Let me guess: you are Necro
No worries ther, because you need a ton of expirience to play with random team.
But mostly for Tpvp you should get Signet Of Undeath [in every build!] and be near the mass fights.
So you already made a newbie TPvP guild [EU]?
If so you can invite me to support new necros or just to explain map mechanics.
I know that i am not often in game, so you can add me in skype so i can log in game and help ya![]()

Not sure if that was directed towards me, but I can add you to assit our fellow EU necro players!
Yeah absolutly, this game needs better tool to improve connections between people. I don’t know if it’s better to create ingame tools or create a dedicated website for tpvp (a spot where to find tpvp updated builds, video tutorial, streamers link, forum, general chat, single player profile, infos about your pvp status like gwshack.info etc) but we need absolutly social tools to create new party or looking for good players easily.
Maybe I can write something up if they provide an API to the leaderboards! I can possibly create a website to list the current ‘speculated’ best builds and probably and upvote and downvote option. I’ll look into it sometime later this week.
Builds for tpvp are an usefull starting base but there are already websites like http://www.esportsgaming.net/ are doing a very great job in sharing this info with very good videos.
First of all, i think people need a social hub (in game or website) where they can know each other and looking for people to play, to full a roster or a tpvp party etc.
Basically the idea would be have a website where people can log in and have their tpvp profile with very good infos like gwshack.info and other stuff (Country, when they play, if they have a party or not, main profession, number of tournaments played, languages spoken etc).
After that we need a tool to filter this infos, so people can find people who speak their main language and they play at their same hours, they have similar experience in tournament (tournament played), they have similar “skill” (ladder position, winn/loss ratio etc.)
Those tools would help to grow pvp community
Not sure how long it will take due to my work, but I can possibly create this kind of website and build it in a way where it does generate income (by very small ads) but re-direct the revenue to tournament prize money. I am an entrepreneur but I like creating things for people rather than for money. If we have any devs reading this forum, I can create an infrastructure in which we can separate the workload to finish this type of site faster.
edit: I might try an open use format like GW2 LFG, where you do not have to create an account to use it but also have creating an account as an option so people can record their profile information and not have to re-write every single time.
(edited by ArcTheFallen.7682)
I’d also like an invite to the guild (EU). I just got my Champion Genius title but having been destroyed on the way by some top ranked players, i’d love to be involved in possibly improving / helping others to get up to a certain level.
Man, so much EU xD, and I’ll definitely send you an invite. Please look out for a possible voice server notice soon for all pvpers. I’m going to try to set one up.
I’d like an invite to this Pvp guild if possible. EU.
Sure thing! What I’ll probably do is add a NA and EU tag to the guild ranks so people know who they can party up with, but you should always feel welcomed to ask anyone in the guild for builds/experiences.
The guild name is already in use, the guilds are probably cross-region wide, so I´ld need an invite to the guild by you
I’ll send you an invite along with Cero and see how that works out~

Alright, I’m off now, but I will send invites to anyone who posts when I get back from work around 6 EST. Possible voice server options will be posted following some sparring sessions as well.
l´ld found a guild with the same name on EU now if you´re fine with that, just wanted to ask for the guild shortcut you have as you didn´t say it yet.
[AOTM] simple enough :P
I’m glad to see the topic taking off.
@ArcTheFallen – I like your intent, but I don’t want to make this a “Join X Guild and Learn” effort. Guild sponsorship & support is good, but I think this will function better as a Community resource than a Guild resource. Multiple guilds with supporting the same resource will ultimately create more buzz and a more cooperative, less exclusionary environment in my opinion.
I want to let this marinate for a little and think on how to execute from here. If the thread maintains a bit of interest, then maybe we can get this going soon.
I’m thinking that a free voice service might be a good way to go for this purpose. Maybe C3? It isn’t well known, but it is free and has decent functionality.
I’ll look into our viable options in free voice support for pvp mentors/newbies. I’ll post my findings later tonight! (Prob should get back to work now LOL). But yes, the intent of the Academy of the Mists is moreover to start an organized effort. I don’t want to force people to join the guild in order to learn but I do want to have that organized structure for people who are interested in being a part of something that’s easily available when you log on.
But yes, will post voice server options later tonight which will include their prices/availibility and setup details.
btw this continual chat in forums is awesome =P really hope this kicks off into something special =)
Yeh, it´s really great
It would be great for NA and EU to get more such beginner-friendly guilds.
But I fear we strafed away from the actual topic the op intended to address x)
Yes, true @OP sorry! I’m going to look into teamspeak tonight and see if I can get a public server for pvp players so we can have the ‘voice’ hub you mentioned or something similar.
Edit: and this would be for both NA and EU so they can at least share information with each other.
@ Arc I definitely understand some people prefer not to be on voice comms etc….I do think voice comms are quite important. On that note I would also be happy to donate towards a teamspeak unless we could get ahold of one otherwise =).
I may be able to get something from my primary guild. Otherwise we may have to default to mumble or raidcall which are free alternatives (if you dont’ mind spending bytes than $).
Arc, I’d be willing to join as a mentor both for my class and for general tourney strats. I’d even rep when I wasn’t playing with anyone else to help new players with questions, and advertise it on Anvil Rock if you aren’t already on that server.
Just yesterday I saw a couple new people on AR asking for a pvp guild exactly like this. I felt kind of bad that I couldn’t direct them anywhere.
Got your name down! Yeah, I feel there are quite a few people looking for a place to get more experience in pvping. Feel free to add them/let them know if you still have their names! Repping isn’t a must, but I’m grateful for your willingness to do so. I look forward to sparring with you soon!
NA, EST, would like to be a part of this…
edit: You don’t happen to have a TS account, do you?
Unfortunately, no I do not use TS. Currently chat has worked the best for us and I have a mix of people who are too shy to use TS and some who are ok with it. If a TS is really necessary, I can look into it for the people who want to use it. (But I am one of those people who prefer chat :x). I’ve developed some quick ways to report information though through chat xD
@ Arc fair call I dont expect permissions etc straight away…I’d rather earn any promotions within guild. And yes…with my main account I’d so love to get a team together for some player ran tournies coming up. =)
Aha, dw everyone is on the same level. I’ll just give you message permissions so you can have better tools to inform guildies about events. Everyone else should be at the same level in terms of admin permissions otherwise. I only use guild ranks to display player’s ‘mains’ so people don’t have to ask all the time. But if you start writing vulgar messages on the guild window—that permission will be revoked of course :P
NA, EST, would like to be a part of this…
Got your name and will send the invite after work xD! Will set up a sparring session soon!
@Arc Sure thing honestly atm I have had my fill with PvE and WvW so all I actually want to do is tpvp….I’m quite happy to rep guild and help out with recruitment and hold events etc. Really try help the pvp community grow.
If you want to rep, that’s up to you and would be awesome. But unfortunately I will stand by my no-rep policy because it helps people afford joining a guild like this a lot more. I can give you some more permissions to edit the guild message if you want to hold events. Currently, I am just focusing on bettering our current members and possibly enrolling in the Master of the Mists tournament! (June 2ndish?)
Awwww
I´m EU… But I think the idea for your guild is awesome
Thanks
Feel free to write my name down if you have any questions on builds or tactics. I can’t necessarily help you in person, but I can definitelly explain some meta games in tpvp. Also, I challenge you to start your own Academy of the Mists there
.
Hehe thank you very much… And… founding my own “Academy of the mists” may sound nice, but I highly doubt that other players would accept a lvl 10 player as a guild leader/founder :P
You’ve gotta start somewhere! And if you have quite a bit of people. I will get a second copy and head on over to help teach the basics, and then current ‘OP’ builds and then tactics based off my experiences.
With guesting now reach out to each server shouldnt be hard =)
Guesting isn’t powerful enough to let NA reach EU unfortunately. (as in we can’t guest there :\)
Im on NA and have 2 accounts…I had originally bought the second one for EU but australian ping makes EU just a tad unbearable so xfered back to both NA. @Arc I’d love to be apart of something like this on both my accounts as I can use the secondary one to tpvp with new people and teach them the ropes get some mentoring happening.
And obviously have my main to push competitive tpvp. I actually do have experience in raid leading from WoW days. and Officer / Guild Leader etc too. That said it’ll also be a great opportunity for me to expand my experience in tpvp too as Im only rank 23
Sounds good! I’ll add you to the guild. Just to re-iterate, it’s a no-rep guild. So you can still have your responsibilities else-where 24/7. Whenever we are both online at the same time, I’ll set up a sparring session soon. I want to see your skills to get to know you better!
EU here too…. Is there something similar for EU? If not I´ld be willing to try to get something like this rolling, the only thing we would need for this are some high experienced ppl who would be willing to help us build this up, as a guild full of tpvp noobs without anyone to teach them wouldn´t be nearly as effective as it needs to be, maybe we could even try to make a EU version of your guild with the same name and get a sticky here in the forums to have a place to go to for new tpvp players?
If there´re any pros out there who would be willing to help build something like this pls step up
I encourage you to collaborate with Cero and start a guild similar (or even exactly the same!) as this in EU. If you guys get a guild soon I can probably get a second account to help you guys in EU. Although I am in NA EST timezone. I am not sure how that translates to EU.
A guild would be good, and if you are trying to do that you should also consider inviting people who would be willing to mentor new tourney players, and give them a rank denoting that for everyone to see. The issue with this approach is that new players would not know such a guild existed unless you advertised it all the time, and even then it would only be seen on one server.
I honestly think it would be a decent idea for Anet to consider building in some functionality to help new pvp players. Perhaps create a region wide pvp newbie chat that is auto-joined in the mists. Give high ranked players the ability to flag themselves as mentors, and a way to see a list of all online mentors and the class they play.
Retaining and attracting new players is vital to helping the pvp scene pick up. In the meantime, I suggest you more experienced people try not to rage too hard at the low rank you might get in your solo/partial queue. I know it can be frustrating, but we don’t want to scare new players off of pvp.
Yeah, I agree with the additional functionaility to help rookies transition better. I am trying my best to recruit both new and skilled players. My guild ‘rankings’ are based on the player’s ‘main’ so people who are new can immediately know what someone plays effectively (or relatively the most effectively). I may rework the design if I incorporate a more organized mentor system. But normally, I just call out to whoever’s online into a room to spar. I can’t wait til I get a hold of my own customer arena x.x
Awwww

Hey guys,
I will make this short and sweet. I started a guild called Academy of the Mists [AOTM]. I am looking to recruit anyone who is willing to learn how to tpvp. The types of members I am looking for are hardworking and honest people, who also like to have fun.
I set up sparring sessions to test builds for members. I also group up with members to tpvp. The whole point of the guild is to have access to training partners and groups to tpvp with.
I have access to all professions and have a good amount of experience in the meta of most of the classes, but it’s a learning experience for me too. I am not looking for the best of the best. I am looking for ones with potential and who will get along great with other members.
Let me know if you guys are interested. Send me a PM and I’ll set up a time to talk about your tpvp future.
Ah ok, thanks for the info!
Sorry guys, I forget about that confusion. I am NA!
For the frost trap, how does this affect thieves in terms of skill recharge rate? Jw. I just realized they do not rely on cooldowns.
Sorry for being the guy who wants to advertise a new effort. I recently started a guild called “Academy of the Mists” and I am recruiting honest, hardworking players to learn the meta of tpvp. Of course I am learning myself, but I am constantly looking at builds of powerful players and trying new team compositions to see the effectiveness of certain plays.
It’s not a guild for repping. It’s just to store names and organize sparring sessions (or if big enough 5v5 team face-offs). I often gather random members to tpvp and trust me, it’s a lot better than solo-q. Let me know if you are interested in getting more into tpvp and I can help you out!
What do you do?
A) Res him
B) Run
C) Stomp oppressor
D) /ROFLNUBBUNKER and quit
Spoiler: There is no correct answer. Feel free to fill in any specifics I may be missing.
It works fine. I use all zerker except my legendary which is PVT (stingy about transmuting) and then I have the Triforge pendant (celestial stats). Zerker is really viable for guards due to our access to many boons. It’s good for dungeons as long as you know when and what to dodge. I wouldn’t recommend it if you are new to dungeons, but once you get a grip on your build, I would transition to zerker gear in the end.
Thanks guys, my try this out soon!
Aw man, all that writing for nothing :P. Well, if you ever want to reap some guild mission rewards, you can become a mercenary for our guild whenever you want and just show up Wed nights to get some free rares and commendations when you hit 80 or so. If guildmates can’t aid you in dungeon runs, feel free to whisper me in-game.
Cheers.
I would say you are probably looking for a 0/30/30/10/0 setup. You want to grab the vigor on heal trait.
Combo field wise, if you couple this with healing spring you get a 15s combo field that heals an initial base amount, and then pulses regen and vigor.
Also grab empathic bond. It is a bit out of your control, but it passively removes 3 conditions from you (to your pet) every 10s. If your pet gets low you can pet swap, so it shouldn’t be too much of an issue.
As far as nature magic goes, you can pick either Natures Bounty or Nature’s Protection. If you are going dwayna runes and/or focusing on healing spring, pick up natures bounty. However, Nature’s protection applies 5s of protection if you take more than 10% damage (think of getting 100b by a glass warrior, or hit by backstab) in one hit, and this happens every 30s. I think of this one as a cheap, less condition Bark Skin, to make up for not being able to take Empathic Bond and Bark Skin at the same time.
All in all, I hope this provides some insight.
Yeah, it does
I’m debating whether I want the F2 skill reduction or not. I use wolf and devourer and most of the time try to maximize the cc / poison when I can, not sure if it’s a good enough investment to consider going in that traitline though.
I don’t personally feel that it shaves off enough time from the F2 to make it a stronger choice. It is a viable choice definitely, and that comes down to playstyle preference. Personally, I’ve been using wolf/river drake (the river drake has ridiculous stats now imo and I enjoy lightning breathing downed players for the sake of doing it, also, the damage output is good for being so hard to kill) so the drakes breath barely ever sees action, and the wolf I use mainly for fearing people off of points, or away from me when I’m downed.
So the f2 cooldown doesn’t match well with my playstyle, but I’ve seen it utilized to the degree where people have spammed drakehound and ice wolf hounds and really controlled the flow of the battle well because of it.So that’s a much more personal call lol.
Yeah, agreed xD I need to take a look at my pet options again (gonna keep wolf for sure! but maybe change 2nd) and take a look at their f2 cds. If I can find one low enough, I may do the f2 cd reduction, if not, I may as well just use them situationally then spamming them and I’ll go with the trait lineup you suggested earlier~
No one really knows; it’s mostly speculation. For some bosses, both high and low toughness is considered high priority in some aggro AI speculations.

Having AH (valortrait 30) will make you view them more as oh —-- buttons.

Hey Kitty! (Not sure if that’s what you go by ><)
I wrote a long message earlier and it didn’t go through. SAD LIFE T________T. But I am willing to try this again. Hopefully I capture everything I wanted to say earlier xD.
I am representing VZ – Valor Zeal. If you are looking for competent and skilled players who actively keep up to date on what’s new and what’s effective and engages themselves in all aspects of GW2, you may want to consider joining our very pleasant group of friends.
We often do dungeons, WvW, and sPvP. There’s a person for everything really! And we always love teaching our new recruits and helping through anything they need buddies for.
But I am sure most guild groups will provide the same offers. SO, let me tell you what’s different about VZ.
Closeness. Our guild above all else is a close group willing to help players individually – as a group – and be there for anything big or small (we’ve done an entire guild mission redo for players and have helped our members with their personal guild missions). Often times, you’ll find yourself in a guild but lack the relationship with guildmates and sometimes even the leaders. Each member in VZ is committed to the betterment of other members — it’s just what we do!
Our leader. I am not sure about your guild experience, but I don’t believe any other guild you enter will have a leader like Rising Dusk or ‘Eve’ is what I call him. There’s just something about having him in your party, whether it be in WvW or PvE/Dungeons that makes you think ‘Man, he really makes a difference’. It’s a great kind of confidence you would like to have for any leader and rest assured, he always at the top of his game when it comes to gathering information, commanding in WvW, executing dungeon runs, and just having a blast.
Organization. You’d be surprised at the amount of collaboration we get done with just chat alone! We have a TS server, but it’s really just what’s your cup of tea. Again, credits go to our leader for the organization of big events such as guild missions effectively but in smaller groups, most of our members know how to approach any and all content effectively.
I believe that sums up most of the points that I wanted to convey to you. We do not require you to rep a certain amount of time nor be active for a certain amount of time. Just rep if you hang out with us. A lot of our new recruits have tried ‘trial runs’ with our guild, so if that way of getting to know the guild and seeing what we have to offer floats your boat, then we can definitely do that.
I am the sPvP head of the guild (self-appointed xD) so if you every wanted to go into that area, that’s also something we can help you out with. Send me a PM or in-game mail if you are interested. But if there’s anything else you need from me as a player, let me know! Welcome to GW2 Kitty.
