I’m all for it if they allow us to display trophies. Not so much into the furniture and whatnot. If I want that, I’ll play The Sims.

But, to be honest, I’ll have to say no. Housing tends to kill communities if I recall what happened in DAoC.

It turned entire cities into ghost towns.

I always hope and pray my opponents chase me underwater. It’s like we turn into a superhero or something.

Some of the smarter players have clued in, and now know not to chase a ranger into the water.

It all depends on how you spec and how smart the opposing player is. Sadly, or luckily, most players tend to be spamming fools without a hint of ability.

Excuse me. But it’s not free. We earned it by doing the dailies. Farming bosses for their chests does more damage than what you’re suggesting.

Yeah, I had this happen as well. Switched the ability with something else. Spirit of Nature does it better anyway and faster.

Let me be clear. I didn’t say rangers should never see review, I’m saying let the engineers, for example, be first. Anyone who says engineers don’t have more issues isn’t paying attention.

People still play this class in abundance. Engineers? Not so much.

The giant shark is brutal and usually destroys anything in the water. The trick is to shoot on land. If it swims away, jump back into the water to get its attention, get out of the water, and repeat.

It takes time, but it can be soloed.

Personally, I like it better when they DON’T talk the class I’m playing. It never tends to go over well given my MMO experience.

Regardless, I love my ranger and play no other class.

If people feel so disenchanted, they can always play something else until the class is addressed to their satisfaction.

While I agree the class has issues, I have to admit the other classes need more help. I don’t believe anyone can argue there aren’t massive issues with the engineer or necromancer.

Let them get in line first.

I have to agree. While I feel the monthly was easy for me, I know it’s a good deal for those with little downtime to spare.

Just because you can do it in four days doesn’t mean everyone else can too.

It’s a good choice for all involved because it gives the chance for everyone to complete them.

I got the amulet and one of the infusion shards. No regrets. Not sure about the rest just yet, but you can get the rings from fractuals. As far as earrings, they seem rather pricey.

Time will tell, I guess.

Server restarts. If you’ve done a daily, and they restart, you can sometimes get a ‘new’ daily. Some people have benefited from this with an extra laurel.

Agreed. I really liked this month’s one. And I hope they keep it this casual for next month.

It’s a sad state, but one cannot ignore the difference. If I update my exotic amulet, for example, to ascended with the low infusion, that’s a 15-point increase on ONE item. If it was on the Trading Post, I’d snatch it up quick.

If I went with just the ‘accessories’ so far, that be a 75-point increase on the stat of my choosing.

Again, I don’t know about you, but that’s something I can’t ignore. So, yeah, I’ll be grinding the dailies and monthlies. I intended to anyway, for the mini-pets, but now that’ll have to wait.

If you want the best gear, it’s pretty much required you go for ascended now.

I kind of understand this is ANet’s plan to keep people in the game for at least a couple hours a day, carrot on the stick and all, but I just wish they didn’t go this route.

And no, it’s not ‘required’ but everyone knows that loot is what most chase after in an MMO.

That’s just how it is.

I believe you get that from the guild armorer.

I don’t understand why this is a surprise. The game grooms players to be more mercenary than adventurer. Quests and their givers reward player with substance . . . not a pat on the back.

I’m not saying an altruistic viewpoint isn’t valid, but let’s not kid ourselves as far as motivation.

The motivation is loot.

I have to agree. This makes little sense as far as gear. Why in the world would I grind for gear (laurels) for literally a year? By the time I get it all, if I was lucky, I can almost guarantee something better will come out as far as stats within the gear.

Granted, I enjoy doing the dailies and monthlies, but this gave me Molten Core flashbacks. I was really hoping ANet wouldn’t go down this road. Maybe with all the negative views on it they’ll change their minds. And, with Elder Scrolls looming in the future, they better decide fast.

The MMO crowd is fickle.

But, on the plus side, there is the tonic and those minis.

Yes, and it’s painfully obvious. I love this game, but I’m guessing they didn’t figure players would gobble up the content so fast.

The daily system, while interesting, is a small carrot with a very long stick.

Again, honestly, I don’t care if they wrote it on stone tablets and brought it down from Mount Sinai. That’s not happening. Much like the promise that we’ll never grind for gear.

No insult intended, but I tend to take anything from anyone working on an MMO with a grain of salt ever since Mythic said artifacts wouldn’t affect RvR.

Those with experience kind of know better at this point.

Sadly true. After their huge nerf, the spirit build was all but shelved. Once in a great while I’ll see a spirit ranger, but I suspect it’s more for RP or from ignorance.

One AoE shuts down the build completely.

All in all, pets/illusions/minions/etc. not scaling with higher end content is a huge issue that limits most players ability to utilize their mechanic or at the very least limits build options (Elementals, Thieves Guild, Turrets, Minions, Spirit Weapons, Illusions), and while I appreciate Robert’s attention here… I really wish a class design person would hop in and provide their take on the issue.

Agreed. Maybe an easy fix would be to have half our attributes transfer to the pets? It may be viable, but I can see where it could also be overpowering. For example, a player that stacks precision and used a cat pet could be pretty dangerous.

Merely a suggestion, but maybe it would help if we could ‘customize’ the pets in some way. Maybe, give rangers the ability to switch or train the abilities from one pet to another.

For example, train your lynx to have the devourer’s retreat ability. In this way, each ranger can modify their pet’s ability to their play-style.

Just a suggestion.

I love it. But, my spec tends toward Beastmastery. If you’re using a glass cannon pet, like a cat or hawk, probably not so much.

I’d say the Mesmer is the best duelist in the game. Only profession I can’t beat if they are equally skilled. But that said Rangers are the second best duelist in the game IMO

Concur. Mesmers give me the most trouble as well. All the others tend to be cake. WvW is another story. But the zerg tends to be unforgiving for near anybody.

I run this every day on different alts. Never bugs.
Stop skipping above mentioned trash and if it bugs try all porting back to start to reset detha and run back to that area.

Tried porting back and leaving the dungeon. It didn’t fix the issue.

As far as ‘skipping’ to ‘speed run’ . . . let’s just say, if one sees a path to avoid the trash mobs and go for the goal, I don’t think a player should be punished with a ‘bug’ for it. To me that’s just playing smart.

But, maybe that’s just me.

Hopefully the issue will be fixed soon.

As a Ranger, (yes ranger, contrary to what you believe) I’ve had to fight lupi numerous times by myself while my team would wipe out and come back from the wp (before the removal of wp’s during combat), for however long they needed to come back.

If I were to list all my moments I’d ‘save the day’ as a ranger, it’d only seem like I’m trying to feed my ego. There’s good players and bad players in every class. I guess maybe more in some than others.

Just happened to me. Sure enough, skipped the trash mobs that lead up the stairs to the last part. The stalkers and the oozes. The event bugged and wouldn’t start.

Edit: If it helps, I noticed the mobs fought each other at one point near the gate, but inside the room. Also, I went back and killed all the mobs after the fact.

Nothing happened still.

I agree with the OP. The entire storyline is soloable . . . until the end. And don’t give me that group-excuse. You have those legendary people with you.

I love the changes in Orr. Was so tired of taking a step and getting zerged like mad. Heard it was especially nightmarish for miniomancers.

No, you’ll get no laurels for completing this month’s monthly. The monthly laurels will start in February.

Completely agree. The ‘gamble’ with the chest was rather heartbreaking, and expensive, for some. Did it once, and with my string of bad luck, I didn’t get it. After hearing about people trying over fifty chests, and in the above poster’s case one-hundred, and not getting them all, I’m so glad I saved my money.

And yes, I’ll gladly pay money to simply buy them instead.

Pretty much. The Mystic Forge game was a gold sink for the unlucky. In the end, for some, it would’ve been cheaper just to buy the other three, mini pets and endless tonics if offered in store.

I would’ve bought them. But, I’m not trying for a ‘random’ chance to get a mini from the chest. Not with the luck I’ve had with drops. Hopefully, maybe, they add them later to buy.

You guys should get a freakin’ achievement for this!

I look at it this way: lesson learned.

Before I spend another dime on items like this, I’ll wait until the very end to see if ‘the other shoe’ drops next time. Again, I don’t believe the ‘employee’ broke his or her word. I believe circumstances made this necessary.

If you’re unhappy, imagine the thousands of players who would’ve gotten only ONE pet for free instead of the two promised.

This board would literally light up like a Christmas tree.

If you feel that strongly, feel free to contact customer service and air your grievances there. Use your ‘Ask a Question’ tab to do so.

Again, you were suppose to only get two. But, because of what happened with the chest and dungeon, some players didn’t get enough materials for even two.

So, this is how Anet fixed it. On top of all that, those that did get two . . . now have three AND two extra bags, extra weapons skins, and two PvP finishers that they otherwise wouldn’t have.

Everyone benefits.

Nope, I didn’t feel that way at all. It’s a game. It’s suppose to be fun. If it’s not fun for you, you don’t have to pay or play.

I also bought the extra three minis, but I really believe the extra cogs were to help those that got truly cheated from the dungeon and chest bugs.

Unfortunately, it’s like this: you buy an item at fully price, and a few hours later, they reduce the cost to half, you can’t go to customer service and ask for the difference in return.

Besides, I’m keeping those extra cogs for next year. You never know. . . .

I really liked the event overall. At least it wasn’t a one-time fiasco like the last one. And we’ve gotten some nice loot, as far as toys and bags, to boot.
