Poll to remove Daily Achivement Cap?

I’d be more inclined to say that ANet wants people to log in at all. Playing is a bonus. No log-in, no contact with the player. No contact, no chance to upsell cosmetics, content bumps, or expansions.

Granted, once players get to logging in, of course ANet wants them to play. That’s increased time commitment that can be tilted toward the upsell. And I don’t even mean that in a sinister way. But if they lose players for any perceived “meh,” there’s a good chance they might not come back.

I’ve become one of those people you describe. I rarely, if ever, post here now. Won’t get into the reasons why. I’m pretty much playing something else too. Log into game. Log out of game. When I hit the AP cap, I felt less inclined to bother. And it seems I’m not alone. The newest quarterly numbers appear to back your opinion.

Sadly, it is what it is.

You DO understand that the suggested option would totally beat the purpose of the cosmetic part of the gem store and I would be totally kittened off if my gems were actually gone to crud because of that.

They do not look overly flashy to me. Customizing your character is the endgame of GW2.

You know, it’s funny because I thought the same thing when I read the latest ‘mount’ thread. It’s ironic, but we’re the ‘mounts’ in this game. Most MMOs use them to ‘show off’ their characters.

In Guild Wars 2, we show off ourselves with gawdy armor, glowies, and particle effects.

Given that situation, I can understand anyone wanting to turn off the disco ball scenario of some character’s outfit. Heck. I wish I could do that in real life with some of the outfits I see at Wal-Mart. . . .

Over time doesn’t mean right now. And keeping a game alive, in light of the recent number with sales, doesn’t mean it’s dead. It means the game is not in a good place after the PvE content drought. My personal opinion about legendaries doesn’t equate into this discussion. I like to deal in facts and reason not in personal opinions and assumptions.

Given that I’m now repeating myself, and in light of a personal attack, I see no amount of reasoning is going to get through . . . and I’m not inclined to continue a debate with anyone more interested in personal attacks than logic.

You’re not getting your legendaries until the game is on more solid ground. They also said no expansions and no grinding for gear. Things change. If you feel so strongly about it, take it up with customer service.

Good luck.

Linken, The Heart of Thorns expansion is completed. Maybe not to your satisfaction, but shipped as complete nonetheless. The current team is working on the next expansion (i.e. PvE content). You are asking for that team to stop working on PvE to return to legendary weapons.

That’s not going to happen in the near future for reason I’ve already gone into.

The continued life of the game is more important than any item whether promised or otherwise. If the game is dead, legendary items are moot. Not saying I like that certain ‘promises’ were not kept, but I am also fully aware of the bigger picture.

And, once again, that does not mean legendaries are gone forever. It means they are on hiatus until the game is once again in a comfortable place, as far as numbers, in the near future.

Meaning: it’s making money.

I think some are confusing agreeing with a decision personally and agreeing that it is a good long term decision for the company.

Overall the number of players who would have bought HoT based on the legendary weapons is likely small. Comparatively speaking.

They were between a rock and a hard place. Continue working on legendary weapons and lose a majority of players to lack of new content (including some who would want those legendary weapons). Postpone legendary weapons to work on new content and lose a small portion of players.

As for me, while the new legendary weapons were not a draw for me the next expansion pack will either need to blow me out of the water based on feedback I hear from the betas or they will have needed to gotten back on track with or have finished releasing the HoT legendary weapons. And none of the HoT legendary weapons should require anything from any future expansion packs.

It is entirely possible to hate a decision a company makes and understand why it was done.

Bingo. +1

They should cut the next expansion team totaly and deliver what this expansion was sold as, then take back those developers when its done to work in second expansion.

Let me understand this logic. In the midst of a near-year-long content drought (not including raids), that resulted in the lowest numbers in their business history, you would rather ANet drop any further work on PvE content, to include an expansion, to instead focus on legendary weapons?

I see.

Well . . . I’m glad you’re not the president of ArenaNet.

Let me put it more succinctly: The ship is sinking. Putting garlands on the bow isn’t going to help. You have to plug the hole or it’s Game Over. ANet is fully aware of their missteps, and they’ve said so. The question isn’t how do they get more customers.

It’s how do they keep the ones that remain.

You’re overstating your case. Keep their word. You mean like no expansions? No grind? And now no legendary items?

I’ve been down this road before, and it’s not worth this amount of hand-wringing. It’s a non-existent item in a video game. And if it’s a question of trust? Too late. Damage already done. People left because of the content drought, lack of overall content in the expansion, and that funny business with the sale of the Core game and pricing issues.

This discussion about not getting legendaries is moot. Why? Because there won’t be a game to play if this trend continues. Heart of Thorns and the content drought that followed created that level of discontent. Do you want legendaries or do you want content to keep the game population interested, alive, and well?

That’s the scenario Mike faced, and he made the right decision. In time, everyone will get their precious legendaries.

Right now, keeping the game alive comes first.

As much as I dislike the turn this thread took, let me ask this: What do you want ANet to do? ‘Indefinitely suspended’ means it’s suspended until the authority over it decides otherwise.

That doesn’t mean forever. It mean it’s suspended until another criteria is met and fulfilled. Given the recent numbers on another thread, it was absolutely prudent that ANet did what it did until Living World and the upcoming expansion is out sooner than later.

The game is not in a good place now. The content drought proved this out. To complain about legendaries, even with all the opinions provided, is like complaining about not getting a nice table when you’re starving to death.

Can we please at least be rational?

and said we could expect new legendarys as well as a way to craft/build precursor weapons later on in 2013. It took them about 3 yrs before we finally got what we were promised and on top of that, we only got 4 new Legendarys as the rest were put on hold (in other words it’s basically cancelled) despite the fact we, the players, bought it with our own money.

So what does this say about Anet as a company? Do you consider them to be fraudulent and deceiving? Because that is what I think of when someone says ArenaNet. I don’t really care for Legendarys all that much, but what I do care about is if a company makes a promise, they better deliver on that promise.

But they did. Even with your own statement, they did. Granted, it took a minute, and not the amount you were hoping for, but signed, sealed, and delivered.

That said, nine months of content drought and a dwindling population trumps legendaries. But, even so, that doesn’t mean legendaries are gone forever.

It would be silly to say so given the nature of MMOs.

Is it play-to-win? In the general sense? No. Is it pay-to-buy gold from ANet through the gem system? Definitely. Can that turn into a pay-to-buy gold that one can then use to buy better equipment (i.e. legendaries), and thus ‘pay-to-win’?

In that specific criteria, yes. It is. If one is willing to pay hundreds if not thousands of dollars or pounds to gain that benefit, then yes.

Again, only if one is looking at the given criteria in that narrow spectrum. But in the general sense? No, it’s not.

For example, in Star Trek Online, I paid $100.00 to be able to buy that Tholian ship. That ship destroys everything in its path with its nuke-everything-in-sight pets.

That was a pay-to-win scenario. Nothing in Guild Wars 2 comes close.

Quite frankly, these forums tend to be professional in the extreme. So much so, you often have to tiptoe on your responses . . . especially when someone kittens you off.

But yes, every forum will have its special flowers. That said, if you feel someone is disrespectful or rude, feel free to report it with that flag icon and an administrator will sort it out.

And back to the actual topic . . . no mounts thank you for the reason I already listed. On a side note, we do have ‘cosmetic’ mounts in the form of a flying carpet, a broom, and a Magento-like bubble.

Mount Idea

Ardenwolfe.8590

Easy, guys. I’m pretty new to GW2. Like I said, I came over from WoW where mounts have been a thing since before GW1 came along! I apologize if the very idea of mounts in GW2 is abhorrent to you here. I’m honestly confused by the reaction.

To use an inappropriate pun . . . the dead horse has been beaten to death.

This topic returns every other month it seems, and the result is always the same. While mounts in Warcraft make sense, they simply don’t in Guild Wars given the waypoint system.

Also, almost everyone travels with enhanced speed already. This includes speed boosts from certain NPCs, traits, and another speed boost from masteries. And then there’s gliding with it’s speed boosts, ley-line gliding, and bursts forward already in the game.

So, again in the case of Guild Wars, having a mount to get from Point A to Point B makes little sense when you can teleport there instantly, glide, and run at super speed to any location.

Finally, since our minis disappear when the population is overcrowded on a server, I doubt ANet wants even more server lag from thousands of players standing around town showing off their pretty mounts.

In my humble opinion.

I think I’m one of the top ten posters here, nearly 11K … so I’ve been here nearly the entire time the game’s been live.

I don’t deny there were threads asking for raids, harder content, I’m saying it wasn’t White Knights asking for it since they were satisfied with the game including living world as a means to add content to the game at a steady rate. It was players who were upset that GW2 wasn’t GW with a regular release of box expansions.

Sadly, those players have left the building in the aftermath.

It’s simple: Living World kept people around to chase new carrots. No Living World? No content? No interest. And once you lose players, it’s hard as hell to get them to come back. And a ton of us on the forum said this would happen, but people just had to have their expansion.

Anyone paying attention can see how eye-opening this year was for Guild Wars 2. I love this game, but I’m not fool enough to say there weren’t some extremely poor business decisions involved.

The Core game set a certain standard for non-grinding, casual play at your own pace. And then Heart of Thorns arrived, and raids, and PvP tournaments, and on and on and on.

Of course the casuals left for greener pastures. This shouldn’t surprise anyone not a rampant fan-boy, waving his white knight pom-poms in every thread to tell the community otherwise.

It didn’t work for Bagdad Bob, and it’s not working here. And now? The numbers back it up.

Again, please don’t discuss the posters, but the actual discussion. I’m not going to get into a debate with you about it either.

Here, I’ll help:

I played GW2 since release.. but after HoT left a really bad taste in my mouth I haven’t played for nearly a year.. and I really doubt I’d buy another expansion after regretting my previous purchase.

In some ways, I miss how Heart of Thorns was originally. Not all, but some. Despite it, I have played every day . . . for the dailies at least.

I wish there was more to Heart of Thorns, but I didn’t stop playing it. Unlike some other games that didn’t hold my interest for even an hour.

Despite all this, I know I’ll continue to play and buy expansions unless something radical happens. I’ve never thought about it before, but GW2 is the MMO I’ve played longer than any other.

I suppose it’s my favorite MMO without knowing it. No, I’m not thrilled with the expansion either, but I’ll give ANet credit for trying to make everyone happy.
