Most is not all like in core Tyria. The entire map of Dragon Stand proves this out. It’s zerg or go home.
Been saying this since Day One, but nooooo. Everyone wanted an expansion. And now that it’s here, nonstop complaining. No more Living Stories? What do you think the ‘expansion’ was? A rushed, patched together LS we bought under the guise of an expansion.
Stop kidding yourselves.
Throwing in a new class and some new mechanics does not an expansion make.

God help you when you reach Tangled Depths if you thought Verdant Brink was bad.
A return to more casual friendly content, with less time-gated zerg-fests, and a lot more testing before releasing a bug-filled product with missing content.

This is an MMO, not a solo game. The emphasis should NEVER be on solo play.
Except that’s the standard they set with the core game, so this logic doesn’t fly.
The whole game is built on solo play with casual grouping. That’s why it is so popular, just like GW1 was.
A game that requires lots of waiting around to group for normal stuff is a short-lived game.
This a thousand times over. It was a selling point for God’s sakes. And it’s not a smart move to alienate the very people you attracted and made your game a bestseller. +1

Well . . . that explains why I fell to my death tonight . . . thanks.
Oh boy.
Why is this even a debate or discussion? Someone died in PvP and wants the pet to be nerfed because of it. He came to this forum to kitten. And he freely admits it.
I’m not entertaining anyone based off that criteria. He can take that noise to the PvP forum where it belongs. They like that sort of nonsense there. We mostly consider issues in PvE here since it’s the ranger forum.
Also, keep in mind, our pets are part of our damage. When ANet nerfs Burn Guardians and certain mesmers, anyone can come back here and complain about one pet doing too much burst damage.
Sorry, Midori, we know you’re used to the other pets sucking like mad, but please realize that if you’re losing to a pet, the problem is not the pet.
Please draw another conclusion . . . the correct one.

I’m really hating how the meta events are required to progress an area. Nothing is random, but set in stone. And despite popular belief, yes, zone are empty now that the new has worn off.
Chasing fuller maps is not fun.
Abyssal. It’s a play off the word abyssopelagic: the deepest areas of the ocean.
Oh look. Someone died to a pet in PvP again, and he came crying to the ranger boards about it. I think we’ve heard this story before. . . .
I tried. I really, really tried, but after certain points . . . I just couldn’t stomach it anymore.
Not impressed so far. Nothing that makes me rethink or change my current setup. Hope more and better are coming down the path.
I’m hoping the shouts will also pass buffs to everyone around us too.
Sarcasm senses tingling. . . .
Good stuff. Hope ANet delivers. Looking forward to these updates.
No, I wanted gliding in Tyria. And now we’re gonna get it. Deal.
I’ll withhold judgement before I comment, but the statement was pretty vague overall. Also, our history itself should tell everyone something already. But, again, I’ll reserve judgement until I see it either in testing or action.
Fixed? If you meant spade and neutered . . . yes.
When are we going to get this great healer as advertised in the twitchcon video?
We kinda had it for a minute, but then . . . PvP.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
And you better have multiple character that either chose Order of Whisper, The Vigil, or Durmand Priory. Otherwise, you’re screwed.
I didn’t necessarily mean buffs affecting PvP or PvE.
I meant bugfixes, diversity and alike. We still have way too many traits that will never ever see their use in practice. Predator’s Instinct? Strider’s Defense?
… Ridiculously useless Minors in Marksmanship?Let’s be real here for a second. Marksmanship traitline has a meaning only because of Predator’s Onslaught. And I, for example, don’t see a reason why this traitline shouldn’t be a Vulnerability Stacking one. PvE is already capped and Rangers lack offense in PvP. Sacrificing a crucial line like Nature Magic or Beast Mastery, or Wilderness Survival for applying vulnerability sounds about right to me.
Yes, still. When I no longer have hope for the class or the game, it’s time to quit and play something else.
You know, it’s been two months since Irenio’s last post about smokescale. I wonder what happened to him. . . .
Yes, I still have hope. Whether that is misplaced or founded remains to be seen. But, even so, I’m still having fun with the game overall.
Despite all the things I dislike, I’m still looking forward to Living World Season 3 and future updates.
I just wish the whines and cries about ranger in PvP, of all things, didn’t cause so many nerfs toward PvE as well.
Truth of the matter is that PvP players don’t consider ranger a threat, and they want it to stay that way.
Customer Support has carefully reviewed the data that resulted in the termination of the game account in question. They verified that this account accessed 29 map points in under 60 seconds. It is not possible to accomplish this without the use of a third-party program, the kind of program that is expressly forbidden by our User Agreement and our Rules of Conduct.
Because of these facts, the account termination will not be reversed.
Works for me. Cheating is cheating. And thank you.
A plotline that does not involve an Elder Dragon.
I agree, but it’ll never happen. I can already hear the howling and whining from PvP players.
Personally, I’d like to see a year of fixing, tuning, and polishing. I certainly don’t think mounts are worth development time.
This.
What would I change? That we have our powers and abilities ‘balanced’ because of the whines and complaints of PvP players.
The day that PvE mob complains my pet and I hit it too hard is the day I listen to nonsense.
Let me understand this new line of logic: Ranger DPS sucks in PvE, so you kick them from your group, but the ranger pet does too much damage to you in PvP . . . therefore the ranger, indirectly through the pet, does too much damage and needs a nerf?
. . .
Can we please have this thread locked or deleted before the kitten gets any deeper in here?
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
And you know what we call that? Apathy. And it explains a lot about why the game is in the condition it is now. Again, I hope at least one developer watches it and not dismiss it out of hand like you just did.
But, again, I’m not holding my breath.
Forum bug fix.
But hay I guess I need to not have a life that has no responsibility’s to enjoy the game right?
This. If a player only has the weekend, a few hours before bed, or other responsibilities, you can pretty much hang it up as far as getting certain things done.
Everything feels like a clocking watching zergfest. And if you miss the train, you’re screwed. Honestly, why the game suddenly turned into a Map Wars is beyond me.
A huge reason the core game was so popular is because it allowed those casuals to play at their own pace without being punished for it.
And I sincerely hope those days return soon.
Why is Maguuma dead? Because the initial, and hardcore, zerg has plowed through the content and has moved onto other pastures in other areas or in other games.
Finally finished watching the video this morning. Other than adventures, as others mentioned, I agree with everything mentioned in the video. I think we all know why HoT was rushed, but that’s another discussion.
I really hope developers from ANet watch the video . . . but I’m not holding my breath either.
funny thing is I don’t recall brown bears having smoke assault.
And we don’t recall you complaining about it in your original post. You complained about tankiness. Not damage. Again, please don’t bring that noise here.
One pet that’s actually effective, and it’s nonstop complaints from PvPers when they die. In other words, the other pets aren’t kitten and can be completely ignored.
Sorry, but if you want sympathy, you definitely came to the wrong forum.
I’m listening to the video now. So far? I agree with every point he’s made.
Please keep this kind of nonsense on the PvP forums where it belongs. Sorry you died to a pet in PvP, but the problem isn’t the pet.
Are you seriously coming to the ranger forums and asking for a pet to be nerfed? Also, just for the sake of asking, shouldn’t you be hitting the ranger instead in PvP?
What does that have to do with mounts supposedly saving this game?
There it is.
They’ll get flamed if they post here, not so much on Reddit.
This in a nutshell. Whenever any developer dares to post here, the masses quote, cherry pick, and trash all over it. As much as I respect Gaile, I cringe every time she posts because I know an avalanche of negativity is about to happen.
Reddit tends to curb this. Not because it’s better. But because the fan base is more fanatical about down-voting anything negative.
Valid or otherwise . . . and this creates something of a sanctuary.
But let’s be honest: If we were happy with the game, we wouldn’t be posting. We’d be playing the game. Forums tend not to exist to praise anything positive, but to point out missteps and issues that should be addressed.
If this has suddenly turned on its head, please rename the forums Lair of the White Knights and call it a day.
Believe it or not, most negative posters want to improve and enjoy the game. They don’t post because they hate Guild Wars 2. They love the game. But they absolutely hate the direction it’s going lately.
And the deafening silence isn’t helping relieve their concerns.
The bottom line is the expansion did not hold the attention of the masses for long nor did it reinvent the wheel. Honestly, I don’t know what people were expecting given the time frame and lack of class testing. I’m not even going to get into that PvP and WvW nightmare.
The sooner Living World returns, the better. Chasing the next carrot achievements is what this game is all about.
Let’s not kid ourselves.

I guess I shouldn’t be surprised someone missed the point.
He means he cannot do the adventure while the meta is up or until a certain quest chain is complete. If the map is not full, some quest chains may take an hour or more if no one is doing them.
It’s not a question of ‘nothing else to do,’ but one of ‘I need to do this in order to get the mastery point for X, Y, Z . . . in the limited time I have because I’m responsible for career, school, family, etc. Believe it or not, some of us don’t have unlimited time because we live with Mommy.
That’s his point.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
I’d love to have them as a ranger pet, but guaranteed nerf if that happens though. Heck, that might be a good way to have your issue addressed OP.
Agreed. Gating even the adventures behind certain events and the meta makes no sense, but this topic been beaten to death with no official response. . . .
The metas for the maps drive the population in the maps. For the most part, if there is no current meta chain active on the map, it will be dead. ghost town. Once the chain is active, or close to completion, masses of people will “taxi” in via the LFG tool and the meta gets completed for the rewards, rinse and repeat ghost town etc.
Its truly bad game design for a dynamic game world that relies on spontaneity and scaling to be successful. You have people having to abuse an interface feature to put themselves into an experience that feels epic, yet still breaking immersion and making maps feel insignificant save for the paltry rewards at the end. They’re like open-world WoW raids that are 40-man autoattack festivals. It’s not fun, not rewarding (both tangibly and satisfactorily) and plain dumb.

The Anet white knights in here are funny.
I’ve made it a policy to ignore certain names and scroll past their nonsense. It makes the thread more enjoyable. That said, Sheobix is on point and understands the issue involved.

Honestly, if there was anything better out there, a lot of us would be playing it.
Yeah, I made the mistake of trying this again for the achievements a few days ago. . . .
Thanks, Upsdn.

Seriously? This is over two years old, and it’s still not fixed? Having an achievement linked to this NPC is even worse.
So, the only workaround is to wait for a server reset or restart? That doesn’t strike anyone else as unacceptable?
