At the end of the day this game is as easy as no other game.
The fact that people fail is, that they are put into large groups with other random people that are just terribad and there is nothing they can do about it.
Sadly, you may be onto something. Guess they’ll always have the forums to show it.
Um . . . not to be a jerk, but I don’t care for any romantic involvements in the game whether heterosexual or homosexual. If I want to see romance, I’ll watch a soap opera.
More blood and guts please . . . and loot.
Again, if you feel that strongly, instead of “punishing” ranged as well, why don’t you use range instead for this one fight?
Geez.
You know, there was another game that started to dumb down everything because certain players refused to adapt. They listened to the nonstop complaints because certain things were “too hard” to learn, to adjust to, and adapt to. So they removed all the choices and made them for you.
I really don’t want Guild Wars 2 to go down that path.
Do you?
It’s one fight. And temporary at that. Please know what you’re asking.
Let’s put this into perspective: how many other “anti-melee” bosses or threads has this board seen?
The content causing this frustration is temporary and doesn’t appear to affect the overall “melee” community. Plus there are obvious ways around it.
I’m casual. As casual as you can get. And my pet is doing fine on the encounter.
The knights aren’t “anti-melee” . . . they’re anti-button spamming. The encounter forces players to think a little further than hitting one or two buttons if they want to survive.
That’s not “anti-melee”, that’s “anti-brain dead.”
I stopped reading after you said Teq was one of the best patches. Best? It effectively killed that zone. Hope that was sarcasm. I’d rather have Carebear easy than zones that are deader than the Dallas reboot.
Menders can heal the Knights. Awesome.

Yeah, saw that on my server too. Pretty sure it’s not intended, but I doubt we’ll see a fix for it either. Though, you never know.
You’re dead after 4-5 autoattack on a warrior. Healing signet is not strong enough this time.
Which one is it? You’re not strong enough or you survive perfectly well? The fact you’re changing your tune, and contradicting yourself now, kind of proves my point.
Please make up your mind and stick to that one please.
Also, your unwillingness to even consider switching weapons “because it’s boring and lacks a challenge” again proves my point. And then you complain that the boss is too “anti-melee”? Sounds like the challenge you wanted.
Again, which one is it?
Please choose which argument you want to stand on before you post. Your latest reasoning make you sound like you lack linear logic. Or, you just don’t know what you’re saying.
Personally, I’m thinking the latter.
So how do we all rate the end of LS season 1

Overall, I liked these final events. Granted, the bugs and what-not disappointed, but still I give it 7.5 overall.
As far as overall Living Story, it started poorly and lacked proper plotting. Only in the end did it make some sense. Because of that, I give it a 4 . . . maybe a 5 if I’m generous.
I like the little hints, but I think the story was off-times too subtle to follow.
Still, to be fair, it’s a thousand-times better than anything World of Warcraft ever put out as far as plotting. So much so, Guild Wars 2 has kept me interested more than any other MMO since.
So, overall, I’m still happy with the game and will keep playing.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Fair enough but after a pull you just dodge and the melee daze attack is negated. It’s anti-melee because of very frequent attacks with high damage and 360 degree efficient angle not because of a pull that you can simply dodge once in a while.
It’s not something you can “simply dodge once in a while”. It’s something you can dodge all the time. More to the point, there’s an achievement if you do so successfully.
And, if it’s so “anti-melee” feel free to switch weapons.
I was under the impression everyone has access to ranged weapons. While I’m sure some classes are used to face-rolling everything in melee mode, adaption isn’t a four-letter word either.
This unwillingness to adapt, or change tactics, shows the difference between those players who stay alive the entire fight, and those players waiting for a rez because they also refuse to port and run the thirty-seconds back into the event.
I play a ranger. And I’m using a melee pet. A fragile cat to boot. And it doesn’t die against the knights. Sad state when my pet is tanking better than the warriors complaining about this “anti-melee” boss.
Very sad.
Spider Queen + Admiral solo with Achievements

Wildly impressive how that thief soloed her.
I’ll never get tired of reading people complaining about deleting items in the game they thought would no longer have a use, and then blaming Anet for their own foolishness. Why would you delete an item before the event is even over? Lack of space isn’t a reasonable excuse imo and a lack of warning (something Anet are not obligated to do whatsoever) is not even close to being a reasonable excuse.
I think you’re missing the point in a big way. If not for this question, and the developer’s response, people would have no idea about this and would continue to delete them. In fact, it’s not a stretch that those who do not read the boards are still deleting them.
The “complaint” isn’t about deleting items. The “complaint” is the serious lack of communication to players on issues like this. And that “complaint” is quite valid.
If you’re in doubt, think about all those people who kept the Winter’s Day frames and the like for an entire year hoping to use them the following year.
Foolishness? No, that’s called experience and second-guessing about intent. Sure, ANet isn’t “obligated”, but it sure does keep customers happy if you at least tell them what’s on the menu.
Didn’t think that was too much to ask, but you’re not “obligated” to post your opinion about it either.
Aetherblades have been dropping them like mad for me. Been farming them near the entrance. Made up for all those blades I deleted…
Six Minutes to Knightfall Achievement...

Now that’s just sad, Aeon. So sad that it must be true.
The pull doesn’t affect melee players so why is it even brought in that context?
Pretty sure he wrote pull and knock-down attack. And I’m sure I’ve seen more than a few meleers stupid enough to just stand in it until they die.
Experience is funny like that.
Nothing anti-melee about these bosses, I find its more the unwillingness of melee characters to learn to dodge and/or use stability. In pretty much every Knight encounter I’ve been in, I tell people that dodging right after the giant AOE circle of doom disappears allows you to evade the pull and knock-down attack. Does anyone listen?.. nope! They spend most of the fight on the floor because they dont want to hit an extra key every minute or so.
This, this, this. And, if I had to guess, it’s those same people who demand you rez them, risking yourself, instead of porting running back to the fight . . . a mere thirty seconds away.
They’d rather you make more of an effort rezzing them, than they did avoiding death.
So if no one had created this thread, we would never have known not to delete them until the announcement. Indeed, it appears this thread was too late for many people.

Noticeable Lower Population after Patch
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: Ardenwolfe.8590
Yeah . . . just logged into Lion’s Arch. Actually, got onto my main server . . . and it was pretty much empty. Hoping this is because of the early hour, but. . . .
Me fighting the holo for the first time : “OMG that’s so epic ! I love that !”
Me smashing Scarlet’s face at the end : “IN YOUR FACE B**** ! Ahah !”
Me reading the achivement list “Oww…”
Me trying to get the achievments during the holo : “Stupid motherfuc*** game ! That’s completly dumb !” (And I think I wasn’t as polite as I pretend here…)Seriously ? What’s the point of that kind of AP ? That LS was really good, and those kittenty AP just ruined it. Everybody complains about AP depending on an entire server performance => let’s kill the non looting knights in 6 minutes. And in addition, let’s make some AP that almost force people to stay in a corner and just don’t do nothing
GREAT … è_é
I have to admit, this was true for me as well. The only reason I keep returning to Lion’s Arch was for the 6 minute achievement and the Spider Queen one . . . which is another story.
After recent events, I’m wondering, “What the heck for?”
Remember the loot the Legendary Kraka dropped after you completed that event? This is the season ender for the first arc of Living Story. And the ‘big loot’ was a mask. And later, none at all. Seriously? You’re complaining there’s “too much” loot?
Well, you got your wish with this new patch. Hope you’re happy.
Guess we’ll see how well this goes in prime time. Right now, it was pretty awful.
On overflow, it was even worse. The complaining was truly epic. And the nerf to the amount of loot, if you even got it, was a nice touch.
Geez.
Yes, it’s for “He’ll Never Live This Down” in Lion’s Arch.
I can confirm Peter does spawn behind the Lion’s Shadow Inn. He’s inbetween the area of the entrance and where the rock pile is. Don’t go too far in, or you’ll miss him.
He stuck around for about, maybe, five minutes before he disappeared again. Camped him for almost an hour before he showed.
Good luck.
Awesome suggestion! And I’m glad ANet used it.
Man, the Jolly Green Giant has really let himself go. . .
Dulfy has a guide to their specific locations. Pretty easy achievement.
I’ll freely admit, I got the first two achievements easy, but I’m skipping the last one that involves the Golem parts. After the kite achievement, getting ganked trying to do a storyline isn’t my cup of tea.
And that little Asura is Scarlet in disguise. I called it first.
I hope Lion’s Arch doesn’t get totaled, but after what happened to the statue, the lighthouse, and the Hills, you never know. . . .
What I’m about to say, I don’t say to put anyone down, nor toot my own horn. But, truth be told, the vast majority of players either lack the skill, intellect, or both to play the game at a competitive level . . . much less against other players.
Most don’t want to research or study their class, much less learn tactics or traits, to ensure victory.
If you’re in doubt, watch players die to events repeatedly as they stand in red circles that warn of impending death. Listen to players beg to know where certain waypoints or events are, when an in-game mail and messages tells them where. Read chat responses about certain classes or quests being impossible while some solo it.
The problem with WvW is you must bring your A-Game against certain players. Because those players will bring theirs against you. By no stretch of the imagination, am I the best out there. But, I also know when you WvW, if you’re the worst . . . you’ll suffer.
The zerg mentality will only take you so far.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Knowing how fanatical some of the players are, probably not. But congratulations none-the-less.
Awesome find.
Completely agree with Kamui.
Yeah I missed it cuz I did after cutscene :< didn’t even know exact moment she died/was going to die. Wish the window was longer.
Agreed. The window needs to be much longer. People were spamming /cheer like mad, but few of us got it . . . even when warned about the window.
It really does need an update.
Some people missed out on it as well after this random overflow server finally managed to bring it down; even after me telling everyone in /y to do a /cheer immediately once the fifth chain went down.
So it would have been nice if the window for the /cheer could have been longer as I had to skip the cutscene and as such missed out on the cinematics.
Yeah, skipped it too in order to attempt the achievement. No go. Ended up watching it on YouTube.
Have to say this update disenchanted me with Guild Wars 2. Don’t get me wrong, I still like the game. But, overall, I don’t feel the need to explore all the content like I usually do.
Could have to do with the wait time, the raiding aspect, the required coordination with players who stay clueless, or all three, but something just isn’t working for me. Again, sorry to say, but I’m bore with it. And that’s always a bad sign.
Everything just feels . . . dragged out . . . if that makes any sense.
Have to give credit to the posters who said Teq’s area would turn into a ghost town. Sure enough, they were right.
In all honesty, I wouldn’t mind if they returned Teq back to the way he was. Never was an explanation given as to why he became so powerful.
People used to camp the area. Now, they avoid it like the plague. That should tell everyone something.
All of mine’ve been working. This include the one day where you build snowmen.
It’s a bug. If you and your pet are in combat, the duration should be the 18 3/4 seconds you listed. Outside of combat, it appears that Concentration Training has no effect.
I’m hearing that’s a bug, but yes it does affect the pet’s boon duration. I use Superior Runes of Altruism, Concentration Training, and Chocolate Onnomberry Cremes with my jungle stalker.
The buff duration has a second or two downtime between roars, 23 3/4 seconds according to tool tip, for Mighty Roar. But, the animation delay tends to drop the real duration to 20-21 seconds give or take . . . if it doesn’t bug.
Bugged duration, out of combat, is 14 seconds otherwise.
In a long fight, I can keep might up, pretty much indefinitely on the pet, between the healing buff from my runes, Rampage as One, and Companion’s Might which also benefits from the duration buffs apparently. Tool-tip says 8 seconds per, but I’m a little iffy on that.
Hope the answers helped.

620 death with 1,498 hours. Most are definitely from jumping puzzles, WvW, and PvP. I rarely, if ever, die in PvE.
It’s well deserved. They’ve put hard work into the product and it shows. It’s the first MMO in years I’ve stuck with for more than a three months.
It can be better, but I’m still more than satisfied with the product.
Fired? Seriously? Yikes. Well . . . asked and answered. Again, look at the what’s happened to the class and draw your own conclusions. I don’t call that hyperbole.
I call that historical fact.
“We have no idea how to fix it,” is just the proverbial cherry of not even trying.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
I really, really, REALLY tried to get into Guild Wars 1, but just couldn’t. It just felt . . . clunky and disjointed. But, you never know. Try the trial. It may be the best thing since sliced bread for you.
But, for me, it was as bad as introducing panda monks into a game.
Agreed. Condition/Regeneration. Hands-down.
The truth is, all our ‘fixes’ are based around events and effects in PvP or WvW. When the player-base starts to complain, especially when rangers manage to kill players, it gets addressed.
I often wonder, if they really removed the pool at the bottom of the Temple of the Silent Storm map because rangers were powerful underwater.
I’ll admit, that’s my own conspiracy theory. But, I do wonder about it.
Regardless, I believe Killsmith makes a valid point.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Rangers would definitely tracked them down and camp their spawn sites. It’s just not the ‘catch ’em all’ mentality, but the ‘look what I got’ one.
I don’t think they’ll add unique pets anytime soon, but I would love it if they did.
The strange thing about pets and ANet is when they worked, and worked well in World-versus-World, they get gutted.
That guard, stealthed cat, critical-hit combination was epic . . . devastating . . . and then it was nerfed like crazy. So, yes, pets do work, but it almost seems like ANet doesn’t want them to.
Another example, the Hyena and Spirits-combination was THE spec in PvP during beta. The hyena could summon an equal-level companion, and the healing combination from the spirits was also devastating.
You know what happened. Hyena’s damage was reduced as was the companion’s. Spirits got gutted too. And that spec became obsolete.
So, I’m not buying this ‘we have no idea’ excuse about pets. The trend is whenever something does work or is powerful for ranger, it gets gutted . . . hard.
Bleed-spec? Gutted. Longbow bug with frenzy? Nerfed with record speed. And on and on.
I call BS. They know. How shameful is it to admit you don’t know how to fix an issue in your own game rather than to actually admit you don’t want it to be fixed instead?
The developer who used to speak for rangers on these boards quit in a huff for a reason.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Ranger isn’t a bad class. But it is the one that will punish you if you make bad choices. While other classes give a cushion for these missteps, ranger won’t.
You have to play well: well-skilled, well-geared, and well-traited.
And even then, you need to bring your A-game when you face players who know what they’re doing. But, yes, there’s nothing more satisfying that having someone jump you, because they see you as an ‘easy target’, only to watch them run away or die . . . from the so-called ‘weak’ ranger.
Very satisfying indeed.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
I believe the point, some of you are missing and the one Noobie makes, is how ridiculously under-powered the ranger feels, specifically in World-versus-World, compared to another class like the warrior.
There’s no denying this fact.
The mere observation some of you are making, that the warrior he played wasn’t ‘good’, kind of proves the point as well. Even a ‘bad’ warrior was light-years ahead of any ranger-spec in World-versus-World.
And that’s a problem.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Yes, I’ve gotten the overall achievement already without completing the jumping puzzle.
