Interesting. I’ll want to see what each event or situation is beforehand. But, if it’s anything like forcing us to do specific events, that won’t go over well.

Still, they can revamp it.

Remember, one of the original daily requirement made you do a combination or something like that with an attack. I guess that was too confusing since it disappeared shortly thereafter.

I think there is probably a VERY large use for ascended mats coming up in the next feature patch. They have upped the drop rate of ascended mats by nearly 1000%. Getting emp frags and dragonite used to require hard work, doing specific activities for long periods of times. Now I get 3 stacks a day of each just from playing the game normally.

Holy crap. You called it. Look at this from the Wintersday Notes:

Wintersday Gift Tree
The latest trend in Tyrian holiday decor, these trees provide Wintersday gifts year-round and are attractive in any home, whether it’s in the heart of the Black Citadel or the outskirts of Rata Sum. Receive yours by helping the orphans of Divinity’s Reach find their lost ornaments. Also, the Star of Gratitude provides additional rewards for those of you with empyreal fragments to spare.

@Ardenwolfe : You are way too much liberal with the term ’’best’’ here. Ya its a good PvE profession, certainly not the best (Ele is). Its good at surviability, but certainly not the best. Its good at healing, but certainly not the best. I agree with most of what you wrote, but ’’best’’ was use way too much.

I must disagree. The pet alone increases your survivability if you can get it to grab NPC attention. If they’re beating up the pet, they aren’t beating on you. And you get that advantage from the start. Since an elementalist tends to be squishy, much squishier than say a bear or devourer, I must again disagree. Especially since I’ve been rezzing elementalists first since they tend to die the fastest.

And when I say rez, I mean with a Spirit of Nature. Instant rez from a downed state.

As far as ranger healing not being the best . . . well . . . there’s troll unguent, healing spring, and nature’s shout. Which, in any combination, guarantees continuous regeneration. Add the Spirit elite if you want a little more healing in a pinch. Now, if you stack healing, especially if you go beast . . . with certain runes and sigils that adds even more splash healing. . . .

And then certain pets also give healing and regeneration like the jellyfish and plant wolf. And there’s that spirit pet that also gives healing. The carrion devourer has a self-regeneration underwater.

Compassion training gives you (indirectly with a trait) increased regeneration. Gives your pet increased healing and regeneration. And of course, Natural Regeneration stacks with everything I’ve mentioned so far.

And if things go wrong, you can spec to gain an instant healing spring, your pet rushes over to bring you back from the brink, or, if you’re smart, you’ve use Spirit of Nature, just before you went down . . . and you’re back alive with more than half your health again.

I haven’t even mentioned Oakheart Salve or Rejuvenation.

So . . . which class does all this and better?

Sadly, there’s no fast way to do this without spending a fair about or time farming. You get these from drops. But, according to wiki, you can get around 40 if you get this:

I’m giving information about why this is the case, not my personal reasonings as to why or why not a certain issue is in place. This is not my personal want or need. So please stop addressing it as if it were.

Selling LS achievements ?

Ardenwolfe.8590

Sigh.

Remember, we’re talking achievements. Hence this thread. So, let’s discuss the three carapace boot pieces.

No, it’s not the end of the world, as you sarcastically allude, given you may get an average of 100 badges (maybe) per total run give or take. Between 3-15 per event if you help certain events to include 15 or 50 for an organ, if it’s not a half, in a Breech event. So . . . that’s around 30 total breech events, start to finish, not including paying for the requirements to extract random organs . . . if we’re being kind and not hopping from breech to breech using the LFG. 3,000 badges or more after the fact because of the extractor and hoping to God you’ll get the right organs.

I haven’t even added the other armor pieces.

That’s not casual play. That’s a grind. And more often than not: a random hit or miss one.

Let’s not even talk about repeating the entire story event with three different characters. If that’s casual, I’m six degrees separated since I only play and have one character.

Remember, oh no it’s not the end of the world, we’re casual with an average of 3-5 hours of free time after work, school, with wife and children, scenario. During Thanksgiving and the holidays.

We’re not talking just the one item you get for completing the story. And I really don’t think it’s casual to ask players to repeat the story three times. If that’s your defense, that requirement is anything but casual. People want to play the game for entertainment. Not chase the stick for a nonexistent piece of video game nonsense. Hence the reasoning behind what this thread is about.

Let’s not even talk about the Luminous items and achievements required.

Ardenwolfe.8590

The ranger is probably the best class in PvE. But it’s also one of the worst in PvP and WvW. If you’re a good player, you can shine. But know the deck is stacked against you.

Ranger is also the most solo friendly because you bring your own party. But other players will hate your pet if you don’t control it correctly.

Lastly, ranger is the best survivalist in the game. The class has the best healing. If you use the right combination of pets, traits, runes, sigils, and abilities, nothing besides instant death from falling should kill you.

The trade off to this is your damage will be less than spectacular. Okay, okay. Outside of beastmastery, your damage will be pathetic. The pet’s will be okay, but nothing to write home about. So no big numbers for bragging.

But you will be the last man standing in a party should it wipe.

Over and over again, me and my pet survive encounters we shouldn’t, get the entire party their achievements, and then rez everyone else.

Be ready for everyone to tell you rangers suck. Repeatedly. And you keep nodding your head and saying we do. We need more buffs. A lot more.

We’re the weakest class . . . and let them keep saying it.

Dear Naysayers, I ask you this:

What is the difference between this suggestion and what is already in the game?

Winner.

Besides, don’t you have to earn laurels by doing achievements? Daily and monthly at the time I post this? So, heck, why not?

ANet’s already selling certain gear, for laurels, we previously had to earn with badges. So, yes, it’s already in the game.

Selling LS achievements ?

Ardenwolfe.8590

A word alone in a dictionary is meaningless without the context. In gaming context accessibility is meant access to the content. The content is as accessible as it can be in GW2. That the reward is is a completely different matter.

Pretty sure I’ve provided example after example of context. Also pretty sure I didn’t make up statements that I later claimed you said too. Again, the word access is interchangeable with the words obtainable or attainable, to use your own words, in this context.

If lay players could obtain or attain certain badges (access), mesmers wouldn’t be selling ports to badges #7 and #30 on the LFG en masse.

You quibbling over word minutia is amusing, but beside the point.

The proof is in the pudding, as they say. Otherwise, mesmers wouldn’t be selling ports. And other players wouldn’t be selling achievements, like in the infiltration one, as noted in the OP’s original statement.

Which is kind of the point of this thread.

Edit:

The way Carpace armor is obtained is fairly casual friendly.

To be honest, I stopped reading your wall of text after this sentence. I hope I don’t have to explain why given the topic and nature of this thread. But I can point out the many threads and posts from various players that screamed otherwise if you’d like me to link them.

Respectfully, what part of ‘lay players not being able to get to certain badges to the point where mesmers are selling ports’ are you missing?

At no point did I say put the badges ‘At the start of every jumping puzzle in order to make it more accessible’ or words to that effect. In fact, I believe quite the opposite. That’s you lashing out because I proved I knew the word and its use while you did not.

Literal tends to be the way a dictionary explains definition.

My apologies that’s not to your liking, but please feel free to argue against the definition offered by the dictionary.

Far be it from me to point out how silly and extreme your response was.

Casual friendly does not mean it’s designed for the lowest level of player skill. It just means that the playable content is accessible to everyone without having to grind for it.

Think about what you just said for a moment. Two of the achievements in the newest episode are grinders. They require you to grind badges to get boots, a ring, the right organs (twice for a total of at least ten times minimum for one organ alone), and pants if you choose not to use alts, in order to gain the achievement and armor.

It’s not a question of skill, but a question of time and repetition, and luck with the RNG. That’s not casual friendly either. As complaints about grinding for that Halloween mini proved two months ago, that’s anything but accessible.

Again, I’m not saying give them away. But I am saying be realistic. And the evidence is paramount. When mesmers are selling ports to certain areas because lay players cannot reach it, I call that a problem with access.

Otherwise, those same mesmers wouldn’t be selling ports.

For example, are mesmers selling ports to the top of the jumping puzzle in the southeast puzzle of Southsun Cove?

No, because it’s accessible, also known as obtainable or attainable, to the casual player.

I don’t think you know what accessibility means. As far as I know, just because something is hard doesn’t mean it can’t be casual nor accessible. Accessibility is NOT easy content. It just means you can access it over and over. The coin is not the content here, neither is the chest at the end of a jumping puzzle neither is the reward at the end of a hard dungeon.

Accessibility means you can access the content itself. The dungeon, the jumping puzzle, the collection. Everyone can try to get it, but that doesn’t mean everyone should get it.

accessible
[ak-ses-uh-buh l] Spell Syllables
Examples Word Origin
adjective
1.
easy to approach, reach, enter, speak with, or use.
2.

an accessible road; accessible ruins.
3.
obtainable; attainable:
accessible evidence.
4.
open to the influence of (usually followed by to):
accessible to bribery.

You were saying?

Remember, the thread is about the achievements. This does include the golden badges as well as the Living Story achievement.

Badge #7 & #30, part of the achievement, are anything but easily accessible, reachable, or easy to obtain.

I’m quite aware of what the word means, thank you.

Unfortunately, GW2 goes for casual accessibility. Liadri and TM SAB are really the only exceptions, though Liadri could be exploited by using lifesteals. Making achievements actual achievements would simply cause more complaints, as seen above with the badges or back with Liadri, when there was a large complaint thread about it and how some people just wanted the mini for their collection.

Exactly. When you’ve made it clear that everything is accessible, and quite casually, a sudden shift will draw attention. I’m not saying make everything easy, but I am saying if you have, don’t go and make them kitten near impossible either.

Otherwise, you get mesmers selling ports to Badge #7 & #30 in LFG. And players being grateful that they did.

And let’s be honest, the last Adventure Box pretty much ended it ever coming back for a reason. And that had nothing to do with environment or other nonsense.

Guild Wars 2 was and is advertised as a casual-friendly game with no grinding. Players are not liking the way the last and latest episode flew in the face of that.

And they were right to be unhappy about it.

Ardenwolfe.8590

Yes, it’s very backwards. And it’s another reason you’ll see players running from fort to fort. Breach boss to breach boss.

What should happen is, as long as you complete an event in the zone, all participants should see the rewards so long as you remain in that circled area. So no more hitting a mob, and then leaving and waiting for others to complete it.

Which is pretty much the definition of leeching. But, because of the grind, I really can’t blame them. It may be leeching, but it’s also the most efficient means to grind organs and crests.

Upcoming Daily/Monthly changes 12/10/14

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I want to see this in practice first before I make a judgment. But, quite frankly, the monthly achievements were the same ad naseum: jumping puzzles, champs/vets, dailies completed, missions completed, and either salvaging or crafting.

Did it so much, I got all the twelve jumping puzzles memorized so much so I could do them blindfolded.

Dailies are much the same: rez NPCs, kill bunnies, kill NPCs, do five missions, gather from nodes, salvage ten items, and/or kill vets.

So, to be honest, I won’t be missing the current daily or monthlies once they’re gone, so long as the new achievement requirements are ridiculous.

And if logging in is now rewarded, I’m guessing ANet is going as casual as possible. Which works for me.

Uh, you’re out of your gourd. The central characters for all story in GW2 since launch have been Sylvari. Humans and other races have only been supporting cast. Central figure of PS was Trahearne, central figure of LS Season 1 was Scarlet, central figure of LS Season 2 now is Caithe.

This is pretty accurate when you think about it. So much so that jokes about Trahearne abounded with him taking credit for everything. Heck, Zhaitan took a backseat at the end of the personal story. And then Scarlet took center stage with her nut-job antics. And now, it’s the Pale Tree and Caithe. But, to be fair, Season 2 does focus around the Jungle Dragon so that’s to be expected.

Again, pretty accurate and something I’d not really thought about before. Hope the Sylvari aren’t the Jungle Dragon’s minions in disguise.

Regardless, expect the norn to get the focus when the Ice Dragon takes the stage. Maybe the little guys will get more attention when Bubbles arrives too . . . unless quaggans become a race . . . then all cards off the table.

For me and my friend, who are two fanatics for every bit of lore we can get from every game we play (GW1 replay and all the books; Magic which we get every new post about expansions lore and every bit of flavor text; RO plus fanfics; EL; DS speculations; DotA lore), the LS has failed completely to deliver content for the plot. We can only compare it to an “Idiot plot”, and we are almost at the edge of our patience to keep doing these 20 min bad storytelling every two weeks (my friend only did the last episode because I convinced him really hard to do so).

So, well, for the storytelling LS has failed completely, and you will understand why if you go search what “Idiot Plot” means.

For content… well.. “maps” that get boring in two days? No, thanks. A new JP that is more about exploration than a Jump Puzzle? No, thanks very much. Wardobre for pets and a new mail bird skin?!?!?! Now that is something!!

The other issue is the plot requires us, the players, and the protagonist, Caithe, to not only be naive, but incredibly blind and stupid, if not downright evil, in order for things to happen within the story.

Both issues are problems.

From my testing, it appears Compassion Training has zero effect on the spirit’s healing ability . . . unfortunately.

True, but a little less frustration trying to find them. Loving how mesmers are selling ports to badge 7 and 30 in the LFG channel.

That should tell ANet something.

Looked and looked, but can’t find it anywhere. Can anyone confirm or deny if compassion training boosts the healing for the Spirit of Nature?

Was surprised that Compassion Training boosts the healing for the ranger’s Natural Healing . . . hope that’s not a bug.

Thanks.
