Skipped dailies, am still alive

I’m sorry. People don’t need direction? Have you ever even looked at the player helping player forums? The idea of people needing direction is why the entire industry has moved in the direction it has.

What do you think Dulfy is? Do you think no one goes there? Do you think everyone found those coins in Dry Top by exploring?

Do you think people who play other MMOs read the quest text and figure out where to go? Or do the skip the quest text and follow an arrow?

Even in Guild Wars 2, in story missions, there are giant arrows telling you where to go.

In tests run before the game was released, Anet had to add hearts, because people were running by events, because there was no text telling them what to do. One dev was watching a player run by a burning house and he asked the player why the player didn’t go inside to check it out, and the player said because I didn’t have a quest for it.

Why do you think people who are used to quest hubs get confused by playing this game? There are tons of posts about it, and even more people I’ve talked to in game.

Where is Vayne getting this? Reality, that’s where.

Excellent post and very well said.

Do you really not understand the issue? It isn’t remotely the same as your example. This is a REWARD for a festival. I hadn’t remembered that the mini was previously available in the store, but now that I am reminded, the OP is completely correct. It is a terrible idea to give something that people might have purchased already in the store as a reward. So essentially anyone who supported Anet by purchasing this item already gets nothing for completing the Festival. That IS a slap in the face. Nice one Anet.

And I’m overly dramatic? You can get 100 gifts. And I got Ho-Ho-Tron for free. And the new endless bell. Again, for free. Not to mention all the toy skins and tons and tons of snowflakes to sell on the Trading Post.

For free.

Is that also a slap in the face? But, by all means, continue to call me overly-dramatic. I love irony.

I bought or created all the mini rewards in the year(s) past. This year, I selected the 100 gifts and got the Ho-Ho-Tron. And, I’m going to guess quite a few people bought the past minis or created them when possible.

Rome is not burning. It’s an electronic image that doesn’t even exist. You spent money on that last year or so, and now are kittened that one of those items can be a reward this year?

Please put it into perspective.

This is a chance for those people, who didn’t play the game then, to now get those minis. If you feel so cheated, don’t buy any further minis and hope they be rewarded in the years to come if you feel this is such an injustice.

Funny thing is that all those people, that want to tell us how great the new WoW expansion is, are still / again here instead in the WoW forums.

If i would change the game because i found one that is soooo much better, i would
also be in the forum of that game, instead of hanging around in the forum of a game

Actually, I have a ton of respect for Wooden Potatoes given the information he gives to the community with his videos. So, if he in fact did give Guild Wars 2 Game of the Year, I’d give him more credibility.

Plus throwing him under the bus to make a point, and a poor one at that, wasn’t necessary.

Thread question: What if an expansion doesn’t come out in 2015?

Answer: It won’t.

Most recent source: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/GW2-Expansion-targeted-for-2013/first#post1391159

By Martin Kerstein, this year (January to be exact), 36 comments with some familiar faces saying the same stuff there as they did here.

Kerstein said, “It is also true that we have said in the past that we will do an expansion at one point. But currently we are fully committed to expand the world of Guild Wars 2 through our Living Story (you can read more about it in this blog post by narrative designer Angel McCoy)”

Better?

They lost 4 million players and were still the strongest MMO in the West. It is a sub based game, convincing 4 mio people to pay a fee every month next to also buying a full price expansion tells a lot. They actually give numbers of active accounts, because they have enough players and faith in their product.

How many active players has GW2? Nope, no official statement. Accounts created doesn’t tell us kitten in a B2P game.

And seriously, ANet got the title for the story?
Look at Season 2, do you (or tentonhammer) even realize how little story there is? If story was a factor, than this is even worse a joke of a descision. Other MMOs offered way more story-driven gameplay updates, called content patches or expansions.

Look a LotRO, three major content patches (not even counting the expansion which hit end of 2013), tons of story driven gameplay + many regions + new class. How does GW2 come even close to that?

The LS is slow, meager and more offline than online. This should have been a negative criteria for GW2…

For God’s sakes, I’m not the one who gave ArenaNet the award. Calm down. It’s not like they called your baby ugly by giving someone else the title.

Take it up with Ten Hammers if you feel that strongly about it.

What would tempt you to make a new character?

I’d be hard-pressed to try any new class or race given the current leveling system. But I might be tempted if they added ritualist or something similar.

But, even so, I suspect only a return to the original leveling system, or something closer to it, would be the only fix.

whats restart motes?

We first saw them in Glint’s lair. If you messed up an attempt at an achievement, you could go to a nearby mote and restart that part of the achievement . . . as opposed to redoing the entire instance, cut scenes and all, in order to try at the achievement again.

Edit: I find it telling how everyone agrees about the new leveling/trait system.

The Good: New maps and updates on a regular basis. Restart motes. Free armor repairs. Making longbow a viable choice finally. The overall community. The wardrobe changes. Free trait changes or respeccing. Instant summon of minis. Minis linked to your account.

The Bad: Repeating Halloween without any changes from last year. Missing restart motes. The inability to skip cut scenes, and dialogue, after doing it once already. No chance to get minis from previous seasons. The inability to repeat or play Season One content if you’re a new player. Idiot Plot Syndrome. Grinding for random organs and badges in Silverwastes. Nerfing the trains in Queensdale and the Coil. Megaservers displacing communities.

The Ugly: The new leveling system. Period.

Best Established MMO of 2014 - Guild Wars 2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Ardenwolfe.8590

This bears repeating: The winner of our game of the year award two years in a row, Guild Wars 2 remains one of the best MMOs on the market in 2014. Living World Season 2 is a shining example of how to inject meaningful, story-driven gameplay updates into an established MMO, and is just one of the many reasons why the Ten Ton Hammer editors selected Guild Wars 2 as our Best Established MMO of 2014.

As one can read, they’re basing the decision on the story-driven gameplay and updates among many reasons not disclosed. And apparently, Guild Wars 2 is a twice-in-a-row winner.

Regaining 4 million players means you also lost 4 million players. So, logically, calling this established, given the criteria of releases and updates, isn’t sound.

Please keep this in mind.

Edit:

“We’re in it to win it this time,” said O’Brien. “We were number two to World of Warcraft with Guild Wars, now we want to beat them. We’ll be satisfied when the Guild Wars 2 is the most successful MMO."

-Mike O’brien

That’s pretty much the definition of a rah-rah-rah statement. Not a mission one. Let’s keep it in context please.

Plant people with no gender, but have breasts makes no sense. And they have fern hounds. Are the dogs their brothers and sisters too? And they have puppies. That’s just stupid. And that mushroom head on Sylvari? Let’s not even go there.

And the charr? God, what a nightmare. What creatures have four ears, horns, and worships fire? Demons. It’s the devil! Only demon-worshippers play demon kitties on crack. For God’s sakes. They killed the humans and turned their lands into a wastebin. And if that wasn’t bad enough? Those poor souls are still wandering that zone after 300 years.

Remember, most people aren’t aware of the circumstances with Fractuals. From their limited experiences, it runs like a dungeon. That tends to make casuals uncomfortable given prior experiences here and with other MMOs. Again, while Khani has the experience to know what to do, most lay players will not.

Most people read the daily events as – Run through a dungeon. Twice.

That’s part of the problem.

Look at it this way: you can have parts of the expansion for free every two weeks or you can have it all for $40.00 in a year or two.

I know it’s a different method to gain new content. But, so far, Living Story has worked to progress the world in a realistic method. Events happen over time and slowly.

Not instantly and all of the sudden as with an expansion.

While I’m not saying no to an expansion, ever, I am saying I understanding the reasoning behind why ArenaNet has not yet released one given the episode-like nature of Living Story.

In a way, it’s kind of like chapters from the original Guild Wars. While each ‘chapter’ there was an expansion, each ‘chapter’ here is a season involving the Elder Dragons.

If that makes sense.

And, please note, I did the daily regardless. So, I suggest the next time try to go that route, and take something arbitrary as poor man’s attempt at a personal attack, you best rethink it.

Because all that did was show just how petty and personal you’re taking this discussion.

It is when you literally only have one hand to play with. It is quite easy to accomplish every other feat in this game with ease using a gaming mouse….. Throwing an achievement into the meta that requires two hands and absolute coordination…. Yeah – Unfortunately it is an impossible feat.

I tested this theory of impossibility. For an hour, I played the bell choir one-handed and used only the mouse. I selected the Southeast corner and played the lower melody. I will admit it was much more of a challenge. In the beginning, with easy pieces, I missed a note or two. With medium pieces, three or four. The hard pieces were brutal. I missed more than I can remember, but I did still survive and received a gift box.

After fifteen minutes or so, I had almost all the songs memorized given my previous experience. At that point, I got perfect scores, one-handed with a mouse, on easy and medium pieces. With the harder pieces, I still missed two or three if the notes were at opposite ends.

I suspect, given more time, I could even get those songs perfected. But I trust the point is made.

It was anything but impossible.

I’m talking about it being required for the Wintersday achievement. Specifically, the Snowball fight which was cited as example of counterpoint. Again, that makes his point moot since the snowball fight was required for the Wintersday (overall) achievement. I remember this, specifically, because I despised it and the requirement to not only win, but carry a present back to base at least X-amount of times and stopping a gift-carrier also X-amount of times. (Gift Stopper)

Edit: I looked at the historical achievements too. The first year has the Wondrous Workshop. This had four tiers for bell choir called Become the Bells. The second year was called A Very Merry which had Ringing the Right notes which required 500 note being played correctly. The exact same as this year.

While I’ll grant you that one could work around that, saying they were not part of the required achievement is misleading since they actually are a part of the choices for the requirement. Obviously. But I’ll agree that this year had no workaround, if that’s your point.

But, as I said earlier, that was also the case for the Jumping puzzle and the snowball fight in year(s) past, but I’ll not rehash that point since I’ve already addressed it.

waiting on competition to announce Xpac

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Ardenwolfe.8590

Ardenwolfe.8590

Let me put it this way. I did a little digging in the 2013 thread. The ironic part is some of the people, in the 2014 thread, said the same things last year when a developer came aboard and said, “No.”

Again, that was in the 2013 thread. Now, this year, they’re saying the exact same things, with threats of future “I told you so” waiting in the wings for yours truly. Because, eventually, they will be right.

One day, some day, ANet will release some form of expansion. But not any time soon. They already make tons of money from the gem store. I just paid forty bucks for a bunch of minis and the like. So did a lot of people from what I’m seeing and reading. Near naked, and glittery, Farens running around everywhere.

Forty bucks is the price of an expansion, give or take.

That’s common sense. The idea that it’s a secret project, playing semantics with the words ‘need’ versus ‘want’ and ‘will’, citing employee numbers while not realizing it takes a lot more to run a business than creating product (ex. legal and financial workers), anniversary surprise expansion announcements versus more gem store and in-game content, releases, and rewards, and now waiting for someone else to announce their product first?

That’s not common sense. That’s wishful thinking. But I’m sure someone will tell me otherwise . . . again.

Your point is moot. Last year, they were required. And I did them without complaint. In fact, the requirement for the snowball fight was no walk in the park either. And the year before that as far as required achievements? Let’s not even go there. So, your example, was reality. Hated the jumping puzzle, since I’ll admit I stink at that, but I managed to do it.

Point of fact is, none of this is required to begin with. If you choose not to do them, you’re not punished for it. And if you do them, you get something of a reward.

No worries. If that’s the case, probably warrior then. But, just to throw a monkey wrench into the works, keep in mind that your guild might not always be around to do content you might like.

Also, you might not be able to do certain content with your friends or guild. ANet is funny like that with certain instances.

If I had to do it all over again, and I couldn’t use my current class, I’d picked guardian before warrior.
