Wait. So now the servers are empty, and the population is dying. But in another thread, there were too many players zerging and the scaling was all wonky because of it.
Uh huh.
On that note, I like pie. Do you like pie?
And cue the doomsayers.
I’m more interested in what happens next than what happens in 2 or 3 years from now. Yes, the game will eventually end as all things do. But, for the time being, I’m still interested so I’m still playing. And when I’m no longer interested, I’ll stop playing.
It always seemed strange to me that people think playing a video game is some kind of long-term relationship or investment.
It’s just entertainment. Pretty cheap entertainment. And I wouldn’t put much more into it than that.
That said, I definitely expect to see a season involving Jormag. The entire norn storyline is based around it. Including parts of their personal story to various degrees.
If I had to guess, Morty’s eventual fall will bring about winter. And with winter will come Jormag.
That just makes sense to me.
Can I have . . . oh . . . nevermind.
How odd that it says Januari 2014 for you, while when I hover over the date of Martin Kerstein’s post it says Februari 07, 2013 17:21.
CRAP! Thank you for catching that. Sure enough, I switched the links, and answers, in my head. I’m shocked no one caught that.
Here’s the real link from 14 January:
http://www.guildwars2guru.com/topic/89072-colin-johanson-mike-zadorojny-interview-on-eurogamer/
“The thing that we haven’t decided yet,” he went on, "is what form that type of content will take. Is it right for Guild Wars 2 for that kind of boxed expansion? Is it right for that to be something we add, live, through storylines in the game? Is that something we want to sell through our in-game store? There are a lot of different options available to us.
“… but we absolutely are going to do sweeping new features that you would traditionally only get in expansions – large regions, content and progression additions to your characters in the form of growth and professions and races. Those are all things that you will see in the lifespan of Guild Wars 2.”
Mike Zadorojny, clarifying his comments from last year – which suggested there wouldn’t be an expansion any time soon – said: “The answer I gave you [in 2013] was that nothing was off the table.”
My apologies about any confusion. I apparently mixed his last comment this year with the one last year as noted above.
Hope it clarifies.
Edit: Entire interview for context and disclosure:

Again, thanks for catching that . . . how embarrassing. . . .
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Makes you nicer than me. I really don’t believe in putting more effort into responding than they did simply researching it for themselves. In this specific case, at least, given the questions.
But +1 for you for being a good guy,
Anyway . . . glad you’re enjoying the game, Llama. I love my ranger too.
http://de.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=jaded ?
You are missing the point. This is knowledge.
No, you’re missing the point. There is nothing new under the criteria you’ve given. Using your logic, I can tell you Lord of the Rings was also a copy of certain legends within the European region. Tolkien sourced it from the Völsunga saga.
Therefore, Lord of the Rings fails to be new or unique too.
Everything’s been done before. What’s unique now is the presentation to the audience and how it’s updated.
I’m not going to say something like Living Story hasn’t been done or at least attempted. But to dismiss it with a, “Been there, done that,” wave of your hand isn’t knowledge.
That’s another beast altogether.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Chimneys, on those toy houses, count too believe it or not. Found this out the hard way last year. But, yes, usually it’s one tree missing.
Remember, there’s now a counter telling you how much is less as you get closer and closer to the goal.
Asheron’s Call 2 did the same. They had a monthly update schedule. They changed whole maps or single areas, they constantly let the world evolve, added stuff, drained a river. They changed maps depending on the time of the year. They failed.
This game and style is still a copy of another MMO. It is nothing new. Other games have done so before.
I won’t comment on the “rather bug free” thingy, as this is probably online sarcasm.
Does the term ‘jaded’ mean anything to you?
He means the way they release content on a more regular basis with an actual story line that evolves. It’s very unique because we see those consequences with the landscape, for example, without an expansion doing this all of the sudden.
The Siege of Lion’s Arch is a great example of this. And the aftermath. The emotional aftermath of seeing all those missing notices. Having to help move refugees. Children looking for their parents. NPCs we’ve seen from the start, now dead or missing. The city all but abandoned with Scarlet’s ship now rusting in the harbor.
That’s what he means.
Also, keep in mind, writing content doesn’t happen overnight. It’s rather amazing, given the unending appetite of players, that ANet has given so much content that’s been rather bug free in comparison to other MMOs, at such a pace.
And continues to do so.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Honestly, it’s a beautiful and well-crafted MMO. Glad you’re having fun in Tyria.
I get the feeling someone died in WvW or PvP.
Is doing research and reading reviews, when deciding on whether or not to play a game, too much effort these days?
I love every, single idea you presented. +10 all around for you. Excellent suggestions.
No, it’s a seasonal, probably one-time event collection only. I say probably, because it may be back next year, but it must be completed before Wintersday ends.
WOW Gaile Gray posted in my topic wishing me luck!
And as an update i finished the collection today and got my tree.
Congratulations.
The gold message at the bottom is definitely a huge hint.
Both are actually quite viable. But necromancer feels more powerful much earlier. That said, a skilled mesmer can do some amazing things. Especially toward the endgame.
They’re the class I hate to fight against the most, in PvP and WvW, one-on-one.
Reported for too much common sense! Don’t you know every topic must turn into a wasteland of, “What about me?! It isn’t fair!”
There shall be no amusement on this forum. Ever. Gaile should be written up for daring to thank someone for their nice words!
Completely scandalous.
It’s the little things, right? I never realized how much I appreciated not having to go back to a quest giver, across many zones, in order to complete quest. No mindless running back-and-forth.
That hit me pretty hard when I tried another game recently.
Camping mobs in order to get it tagged to complete a quest. Or not getting the quest done because someone else did more damage. Someone steal-killing. Someone stealing a chest you just cleared an area to get. Same with nodes.
Actually having to kill rats in order to level . . . and the rats whipping your behind.
No way to recover if you get downed. The inability to simply climb over a curb or rock in the way making everything around you into a mirco-maze. The inability to dodge an attack you see coming.
I’m so not used to just sitting there and taking it anymore . . . hoping my HPs hold out.
Area looting. This should be mandatory in every MMO.
Just on and on and on.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
And if there is no expansion, why doesn’t Gaile or another dev swoop in to say “sorry folks, there’s no expansion in the work” in all these expansion threads? Why is there no denial of an expansion? That, if you ask me, is most suspicious. With all their silence to reduce unfulfilled hype, you’d think they’d squash these kinds of hype in the butt too.
Jesus. Am I talking to myself? They have denied it. This year. I even posted the most recent link twice in this thread.
Please feel free to scroll up.
There’s no conspiracy theory. They are focused on Living Story, right now. And have said so repeatedly. Why are you still ignoring this fact?
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
As far as I can tell, sigils that boost damage the most are favored in PVE so Bloodlust, Night, Force, Strength. Its because you dont really need extra heals or other support in order to complete most PVE content so you might as well max dmg and complete it faster.|
This tends to be the mindset of most players. Kill it, quick. But it’s also a little short-sighted, no offense intended, if you’re going for the longer and bigger fight. Where surviving is more important if you can’t kill it quick. You tend not to do any damage dead.
But that’s another topic again.
As far as your question, Zomby is right. Definitely those runes.
You know, I tried that. And the finger placement is different than in the choir. It always throws me off. Besides, again, the break also gives, for those staying there to get something more than just their dailies, a moment to stretch.
You can actually farm gifts pretty easily if you choose the higher part.
So, the freeplay is there for more than that. It’s can also be a break if you need one while farming rarer gifts.
Or for a moment to post on the forum. . . .
My apologies, but Filahah’s prior response was rather unclear. Ah, thank you Beldin.
Well, regardless, thank you both again for taking the time to answer my questions. I think the thread’s been derailed enough.
Wait, wait, wait.
Some of those patches I listed are part of the ‘original’ FF 14 game? Not this Reborn version? So there are actually less patches of content in the Reborn version?
What does this have to do with the fact that they put out more content than GW2? Or anything, for that matter?
I mean, you haven’t played the game, you admitted yourself, so it’s not like you can give any actual opinions on it, so…
Well that’s kind of the reason I asked you. And you answered. With FF 14. Don’t worry, I’m downloading it later to find out for myself.
I’m always interested if another game is supposedly better than the one I’m playing, so I’ll give it a look and try.
So, like I can give actual opinions on it. Not trying to show bias, but saying something has 20 times the content in a patch seems a stretch.
I mean, if I said that to you, would you take it at face value?
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
I get the feeling I’m reading hyperbole, but okay. Twenty times the content it is.
The 20x is referring to the fact that A Realm Reborn isn’t just FF14 remade.
The story of A Realm Reborn takes place after the events of original FF14. The opening cutscene of ARR, the Battle of Carteneau, was the last event to take place in FF14 as, essentially, Bahamut nuked the game.
Essentially, ARR is a sequel to FFXIV, which is why it’s not two years old.
Wait, wait, wait, wait, wait.
The first version crashed and burned, so they’re not calling it #15 because it’s not a reboot . . . it’s “Reborn” because some mob nuked that and said, “Oh hell no.”
And they’re disguising that as . . . story?
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
tl;dr?
Quit being whiners when there’s an actual challenge. The game shouldn’t be click, achievement, done, all the time.
I get the feeling I’m reading hyperbole, but okay. Twenty times the content it is. In fact, one of their patches (of the 13) has more than a quarter of three months of patches (of the thirty) than Guild Wars 2.
I’m also getting the impression FF 14 can change water to wine too, but I might have a looksee about this miraculous game and get back with you later.
Thank you for your . . . um . . . unbiased opinion.
Dear Arenanet,
My Elsa cosplay (from the movie Frozen) can’t be complete unless I have a Mini Snowman, and it was only obtainable in 2012 unfortunately
Please help me get my Olaf <3 ty
Man, you are too fine for my eyes.
Happy, belated, Wintersday.
Yes, Ashen, you’re right. I view this thread as a lighthearted thread, not intended to “bash” anyone. Some do the new dailies. Some don’t. Some don’t like them. Some do. It’s all good. We have a thread for serious discussion of the topic, but this one is pretty darn funny. One of my faves so far: “I skipped breakfast.”
Neural — this really isn’t toxic. It’s sarcy and it’s saucy, but toxic it is not.
I don’t like your attitude. Reported!
Me neither. Especially given the other thread is still near the top of the page. But I’ll give the benefit of the doubt.
If you’ve played a week, and are asking these questions, you haven’t gotten far enough into the game.
Come back in three months and ask again if you still need. By then, you’ll have formed your own opinions and won’t need ours to fill your own.
Enjoy the game.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Now take a close look at the individual patches. Having actually played the game I can guarantee you, two of those cover about the same amount of content we got in the past 2 years (since release). And that from a game that’s just over one year old.
I was under the impression that the first ‘version’ of this game crashed and burned, and they had to reboot it. Correct? So is it not more than a little disingenuous to say one game’s patch was buggy when the other game in the comparison needed a reboot? Because of bugs and the like? Again, my knowledge about this is limited. So, calling it just one year old is somewhat misleading, wouldn’t you say?
Also, given that it’s a subscription game, how often are these patches released? Wouldn’t this be like saying if Guild Wars released all their content every three months, instead of the bi-weekly as before, there would be ‘more’ content as well?
Or at least, give that appearance?
I honestly don’t know if FF 14 does have more content given the circumstances. It might. But the evidence I’m finding tells me the opposite. Yet, to be fair again, I don’t have first-hand experience.
So it may be true. But, again, the evidence I’m finding is showing me otherwise.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Please tell us what other MMO adds as much content within a year that doesn’t add it all after two years with a $40.00 or more in an expansion you must wait a year or more to see?
Final Fantasy 14.
I’ve researched what I can, but I’m grossly unfamiliar with this FF 14. May I ask if these are all the content patches?
http://na.finalfantasyxiv.com/lodestone/special/patchnote_log/
I was going to ask more, especially since it a subscription game with a gem store, but I see others have asked my concerns. I’ll stick to point.
Well, if this is the case, and if we’re counting the ‘mini’ patches within those patches as content adds . . . that gives FF 14 at least 13 content releases and updates from 2012 to 2014. This does not include hot fixes. We’re not going there.
With Guild Wars 2 there are give or take 30 if we don’t include seasonals.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Category:Updates
That’s almost 3 times the amount of content releases and updates for Guild Wars 2. All for free. But FF 14 does all this and more?
Am I missing something?
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
lets see today’s daily, craft an exotic, nope too expensive,
Exotic luck and ascended mats count for this daily.
I crafted a jeweler’s kit. I think it cost 7 silver to get the bars off the Trading Post. Probably would’ve been cheaper to get the ore instead, but meh.
Seven silver is chicken feed these days.
Wow, Morte, you have less luck with the RNG than I do. . . .
This is your second post after my question in which you’ve failed to answer my question, so I’ll just ask it, again.
What do you feel would be the downside to improving the scaling of events to more appropriately match the number of players working on said events?
I’m curious as to why you even need me to answer the question? You’ve already answered it for me, haven’t you? I mean, I don’t want to sound argumentative for the sake of being argumentative, to use your words, but you’ve already put the words in my mouth and drawn your own conclusion.
What would be the point of offering any answer, or opposing opinion, when you’ve already reach the conclusion anything I would say is strawman because, to use your words again, if I could offer one I would’ve by now.
Right?
In other words, you’ve told me anything I have to say you wouldn’t believe in so many words. So what would be the point of giving you an answer then?
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Hope you have your flame-resistant suit ready. But I do agree with your points. Completely.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Um . . . yes, this thread is supposed to be lighthearted. . . .
On the third day of Wintersday, ArenaNet gave to me . . . three easy dailies, two greatswords glowing, and a precursor for my legendary.
Because old dailies were so much fun, yep. That’s totally not the main issue with them, that they were this ginormous chore which took up quite a lot of time, especially if you were after AP.
And pretty much the exact same thing every day. Salvage ten items, kill bunnies, do quests, gather, kill some mobs, rinse/repeat. Throw in talk to the Laurel Vendor or kill some underwater mobs, and there you go.
How about some tips. I’m shocked that it’s gotten to 3 pages and no one has actually tried to help. So here is some actual help.
There are numerous threads, recently combined I think, that do. I, myself, typed out a long one basically saying exactly what you did as well.
At this point, I think it fair to say that these posters aren’t looking for help per se, but something else altogether.
I’ll just leave it at that.
Would anyone actually prefer dealing with junk items to simply receiving the copper directly?
Yes, there’s an achievement that counts towards getting junk.
That’s essentially what you’re saying. If you could think of a single reason why improving the scaling of events based on the number participating in it, you’d have just given one, but instead you chose to ignore the question, and instead pose a strawman argument.
Are you done telling me what I’m essentially saying or do you need more time to tell me what I’m saying? Since, you know, I haven’t said anything as far as answering your question so far. Because arguing a point I haven’t made, with yourself, makes much more sense.
But don’t mind me. I’m just being argumentative even though I’ve ignored your question.
Seeing the contradictions yet?
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
@ Ardenwolfe:
K, I’m going to step back and ask you a simple question:
What do you feel would be the downside to improving the scaling of events to more appropriately match the number of players working on said events?
Let me ask you a simple question. Has the scaling prevented you from completing the 4-event daily?
See my comment above about easymoding the dailies. If you consider easymoding them to be a default approach, then they have already failed.
I’m getting the impression, from threads like this, it is a failure. As someone wisely pointed out in another thread, the Wintersday dailies have you, literally, clicking a pile of snow five times, giving Ho-Ho-Tron a copper, opening five presents, and throwing three snowballs.
These are considered achievements now.
And yet, the one daily that requires some effort, we’ve seen countless tears and threads about.
It’s very telling.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
This game’s purpose is not to challenge us, but to make us enjoy ourselves.
I really don’t have the words. . . .
