Um . . . no throwing shields in this game, thanks.
Engi does it already
Seriously? Huh. No idea. Still sounds stupid though.
Oh snap. I totally didn’t notice it was a necro’ed thread. . . .
Yep. I was going to do one as well, but after Rhyse’s posting . . . there was no point.
Every time I said Silverwastes is dead or dying, someone tells me otherwise. So I’m not blind to what you’re saying, Gudy.
It’s just that every time I’ve said it, someone else told me I was wrong.
Guess this is just full circle.

:)
I did some further research on the original thread and found there was some confusion about it being humorous as opposed to serious. As Astral and Serophous said, it appears to be removed because there were real threads involving management that were similar.
Apparently, the thread appeared to mock a recent one with real concerns.
Given that situation, it’s probably the reason for it’s removal. Tongue-in-cheek or not.
I’ll be clearer: It was crass. And you’re in no position to call anyone on these forums anything when the words you used makes you no better than them.
What you ‘feel’ is immaterial.

Um . . . no throwing shields in this game, thanks.
When you create anything for mainstream consumption, expect criticism. Whether warranted or not. We call that getting thick skin. If you don’t have it, you really have no business being in the business.
This is why, a lot of times, it’s recommended you don’t respond at all to criticism. It tends to feed the poor and childish behavior.
A humorous thread is a humorous thread. And a roast is a roast. But, sometimes, where there’s criticism, there really is fire.
It’s up to those people being mocked whether there is substance to it.
On that note, calling your peers ‘diaper creme style’ posters is pretty much the definition of throwing stones in a glass house.
Let’s not get that twisted in an attempt to look moralist.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Given that the last thread, with a similar complaint, was deleted due to it being ‘not constructive’ or words to that effect, despite some insightful and rather brilliant posts (the ones I saw the last time I read the thread anyway . . . no idea if some epic meltdown happened later), I’m doubtful this thread will be seen in a better light.
Especially given Lucos’s response to boot.
In short, I agree . . . but in before topic lock and/or deletion. Edit: Or moved apparently…

Thank you for the heads-up.
Join ArenaNet president and co-founder Mike O’Brien and Guild Wars 2 game director Colin Johanson for an exclusive sneak peek at what’s next in Guild Wars 2 and be among the first to hear how we’re setting up a new framework for how an MMO can grow its universe. The Living World was just the beginning.
Judging by their choice of words I would completely rule out a traditional expansion. It sounds more like they’ve come up with a revamped LS model.
Interesting thought. You may be right.
Maybe Norn next time. Depends.
New class or classes. Players coming back to try the new classes. Leveling new toons. Maybe in a new continent. But I doubt it’ll be a traditional expansion.
They might force us to buy the new classes instead.
Marvel Heroes Online does this with each new hero.
Yeah . . . again. . . .
Sweet! Thanks for the heads-up.
In Nightfall. they were one-handed weapons. More or less javelins. Don’t see a reason to change that.
It surprised me, more than a little, that rangers could use staves in the original game, but not here.
This goes along the same lines, but every time there’s a new patch you’ll see in chat: “Where am I supposed to go?” or words to that effect.
Despite the in-game mail macro-video that shows you where to go, the big orange arrows painted on the map, the bright green star on the map, and even the micro-green arrows that point the way. Every time. A host of players always ask, “Where is it?”
So, honestly and from my cynical point of view, I think that nothing will stop certain players from getting tricked no matter how many warnings are put out there.
But, if it helps, I’m all for it.

No doubt, a cease and desist order will or has been sent. Pretty shady. But no surprise these days.
Happens all the time with art and photos across the Internet.
Edit: Check out this lovely game. Does the UI look familiar?

The complete four events in a particular zone PvE daily is a right pain at times. People ping the event and by the time you get there a massive DPS zergfest has already completed it. I dread to think how much currency I’ve lost by teleporting around a zone to find the pinged event over.
These days, if it appears on the daily list, I ignore it. Especially since you’re only rewarded for doing only three. So I go the path of least resistance. A drip of karma and two XP books ain’t worth the aggravation.
Especially not for no one Achievement Point you ain’t getting. No thank you. Pass.

Given that finding historical information, via the search option is less than stellar, I’m inclined not to see a reason for the archive to remain. Also, as patches and updates progress, certain information becomes obsolete as well.
While I understand the needs to reference certain, and critical information, the secondary option Mark provides will give access to that information if required for whatever reason.
Though, I will also admit, this seems a bit extreme, the reasoning that is, to give the front page a ‘tidying up’ or whatever.
Just give it an all-encompassing link that says Historical Archives. Once clicked, these archives will show the old link. Simple fix . . . if appearance is what all this is about.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Unfortunate. But I can understand the reasoning. Still, it does feel like a conditional build gets the shaft when you, and the zerg, hits that 25 stacks on a World Boss.
Though . . . a hundred stacks of vulnerability might make a World Boss into a bunny.
Oh . . . that’s about to change in a week or so. . . .
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
1. No, just no.
2. Seen this attempted in more than a few games, and it was a nightmare for casuals or those who want only to PvE. Griefing and ganking would become norm. It’s already bad enough you need to go into the Mists to get your World Map done. So, no.
3. That will happen in the future when Bubbles the Water Dragon appears. But, given ArenaNet’s disposition about water and underwater content . . . I wouldn’t hold my breath . . . pun intended.
Personally? No. Other than getting a daily for crafting done, or for crafting achievements, no the professions haven’t meant more than the difference between 1-5 points per armor or weapon. If you’re a min/maxer that may mean a lot to you. Otherwise, if you’re a casual, it don’t mean squat.
In fact, you can craft ascended gear through the Mystic Forge without crafting knowledge. Farming, coin purchases off the Trading Post, and laurels will do.
Here’s an example: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Sclerite_Karka_Shell_
This isn’t true for armor and weapons . . . for now.
But, in the next patch, you’ll be able to choose an ascended piece of armor if you complete the last part of the Silverwastes achievement that includes the last two pieces.
Edit: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bioluminescence (please note the reward)
To me, this opens a gateway to gain ascended armor and the like without crafting. So, I recommend you save your money and go the farming route instead.
But, as always, that’s just my humble opinion.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Thank you for posting this. Had no idea it had real origins based on historical accounts.
(laugh) I sometimes forget that logic tends to go out the window when entering the Internet. At least . . . for some.
Keep in mind, certain criteria for this event is dependant on Wintersday events that are temporary. For example, Grawnk isn’t sticking around all year-long for you to poison him.
So, theoretically, neither will the tree (not the reward version – that permanent if you’ve earned it since it’s a node), the children, nor the item that starts the event, nor said letter.
If that’s the case, it would be reasonable to follow-up that the drops would also be removed since they’re seasonal as well. To see this in action, we only need to go to past Wintersdays and note that those seasonal items stopped dropping after the event was over.
Yes, the collection is permanent. But the requirements to achieve it will be temporary. In other words, it’s most likely if you don’t get it done this year, you’ll be able to complete it next year during the next Wintersday.
I say likely, but not absolutely.
Certain items we saw years ago, like certain minis, came once and have never returned. I strongly recommend you get this done now, if you can, before you are forced to wait a year to try again . . . if at all.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
God no. Please no. Seen it done, and it wasn’t pretty. Diablo 2, and somewhat in Diablo 3, does this.
And yes, it’s a spamming nightmare.
(laugh) Watch this ‘expanded’ universe be something like a card game, or micro games through your IPad, or oh oh!
They’re making a Guild Wars movie.
By outlawing criticism, Anet is one step closer to making these forums like communist Russia.
Don’t like the party? Get sent to Siberia (banned).
See what I mean, OP? Your post and the discussion it has spawned is confusing some people into thinking you want ArenaNet into taking action against players that use those words. Please add ‘My’ to the title of your post, for their sake at least.
I believe both of the above posts demonstrates a lack of reading comprehension more than anything. Trying to shade it as something else is more than a little dishonest.
There’s a saying that goes, “Squeaky wheel wants to get greased.” Honestly, if you feel personally offended by the OP intent, it says something more about you than the OP’s intention.
At no point did I feel offended, or that the OP was somehow trying to ‘silence’ my opinion through word choice or other semantic nonsense.
The thread is about civility.
The mere fact that droves of posters failed to see this simple fact not only boggles the mind, but speaks volume about their self-importance.
And on top of all that?
Gaile told us what the thread was about. Point blank. No beating around the bush. And STILL those same posters keep pounding the drums of their own ignorance.
If you don’t get it, fine. But please know this thread isn’t about YOU. It’s about US. The community.
And if one can’t tell the difference, that’s fine. The thread wasn’t meant for those posters to understand. Because the thread asks those of us, who do understand and know the difference, to be more mindful of what we say.
It’s as simple as that.

Here’s my theory:
Rytlock completes the rite of ascension, with the help of Turai Ossa, in order to speak to the human gods. They grant him the status of Envoy so that he can lead the souls of the Ascalonians to the underworld, but this comes at a great cost. Seeing the human gods causes Rytlock to go blind, and his new position as Envoy means that he can never fully return to Tyria.
I love your theory.
I’m not crazy about this 3 maximum worth points limit. There’s less reason for me to even bother with the fourth PvE for example.
Leave the requirement at three, but increase the rewards and the thus increase the reason for people to stay logged into the game.
The ‘rewards’ right now are peanuts regardless.
Yes, please make this happen soon.
Dreamer — A bow that shoots rainbows and unicorns? Really? * facepalm *
This. It’s silly. And maybe a touch stereotypical. The sound effect is just the icing on the cake. Gah.
The guild capes. Definitely. I’d also like to see hirelings and heroes, but I don’t think the servers could handle it.
Maybe just one follower? Like a bannerman or something? I could go for that.
I’m not crazy about it, but I’m not wild about crafting either. If people want it, sure. Makes no difference to me. Because I’m not paying for it.
Am I the only one finding the negative responses to this thread ironic and telling at the same time?
I’m sorry you had to deal with such ignorance and stupidity. Hopefully, it has already been dealt with. However, keep in mind, the developers nor the moderators will be able to tell you in what way they dealt with said players.
That said, I can assure you, it is not taken lightly.
Welcome back to the game. Hopefully, that experience won’t take away from it.
Blitzed. Smashed. Boozer. Tanked. Swimming in Fumes.
After a recent discussion, some weeks ago about that game, I decided to try the free trial for FF 14. Let’s just say I uninstalled it less than an hour later . . . and leave it at that.
I agree. No designation is the clearest and easiest way to avoid future problems.
That may be the best route.
First, let me say your response was incredibly immature. But let’s forgo your lack of tact and discuss that issue.
You are also not a so-called ‘white knight’ defending a rah-rah-rah position. That’s how some of our fellow posters will see you. You are now a more noted public figure with a known identity.
I don’t think it too much to ask for there to be some form of buffer for those specialists.
Plus, I would also like for those persons to be able to continue to enjoy the game without the random whisper of some forum member who may or may not want to continue a ‘debate’ in-game through private messages. For some, they’ll see a forum specialist as someone with a huge target on their head.
Let’s not kid ourselves about that.
We have not made a final decision on this. What’s your opinion? Is there a reason it should be one or the other?
They should definitely get a new name or handle. This should not only protect the specialist, but it should curb some of the bias forum members have for certain individuals. I will include myself in that equation. If I see certain posters as specialists, regardless of their knowledge, I will most likely dismiss their postings because I already do. But the likelihood of those persons becoming a specialist is rather thin, if I am to be honest.
In theory anyway.
If those specialists choose to reveal their identity, that’s should also be their choice.

There’s outrage about the garrisons? My wife loves her garrison. But I don’t wander the World of Warcraft forums. They give me a rash.
I believe, Deceiver, given the length and breath of your post, you are missing the point in your attempt to defend your previous position. It is, regardless, also not part of the overall discussion.
The topic is about macros for music. Not your lauded experiences as a former GM elsewhere nor your insight into those investigations.
Let’s stick with the actual topic at hand.
Unfortunately, while I admire your intent, it will be ignored by the people it applies to. Name-calling tends to be their second nature if they cannot prove or validate a point. Let the moderators deal with that element instead.
I’m sure someone will come along and name-call you because of this thread.
I didn’t need a crystal ball when I said this. And given certain responses . . . well . . . I’ll follow my own advice and let the moderators deal with that element.
