I’ll tell you this much, I’m already bored without a Living Story update. Done everything I can in Silverwastes. Now I’m logging in, doing my three dailies, and logging out.

Apparently it’s time to chase the achievements in Guild Wars 1 again. . . .

Hope they don’t take 12-18 months to polish their work. It won’t be pretty if they do.

Complaining is coming regardless. They’ll be players that rush through the content in less than a week, no matter the amount, and then come here to say, “That’s all?”

But, given the wording and circumstances, it does appear to be something of a rushed job. Don’t know if that’s the case, but we’ll see in a few months.

Sadly, you may be right. We don’t know yet. But that’s appears to be what the ‘expansion’ camp wants. They’re under the impression that Living Story doesn’t give as much content, over time, as an expansion will instantly.

I’ll not debate that questionable logic, but we’ll see in the coming months ahead what ArenaNet will do.

It’ll determine if more than a few of us stick with the game.

I seriously doubt ANet will stop updating the game via Living Story content. If they decide to only update the game, purely via expansions, they’ll see a nosedive in people playing.

Already bad enough people complain about waiting two weeks to a month between updates.

Six months to a year for an expansion? Or longer? Not a chance in hell.

Again, Living Story has kept a lot of players around. If that goes, so will those players. Let’s not kid ourselves about that.

The ‘expansion’ is a bone they’re throwing to the “I want an expansion” crowd that complained nonstop over the last year across the forums. So, since people want it that badly, ANet would be fools not to take their money.

The ironic part is, if Heart of Thorns was Living Story, downloadable content for free, you’d have tears it wasn’t an expansion . . . even though it’s the same product.

Labeling seems to have made quite a few people happy around here.

I won’t be playing one. Looks to melee class which I dislike. But will be eager to specialize my ranger.

It looks unlikely that anything more will come from Season Two given the cliffhanger ending trailer for Heart of Thrones.

There might be some special event in the future, but we don’t know for now.

Make new friends and don’t randomly invite strangers to your guild.

Ranger is the worst class in gw2. Our skills and F2 kitten abilities are nothing compared to other classes. We asked more survival skills..more mobilty..better F2 skilss…usefull pets..but nothing arrived. Don’ t exepct too much for ranger in the next expansion..we all we’ll be ultra disappointed I’m sure

Yes, we suck! More buffs please. Can I have both pets out at the same time? That would be awesome.

As someone who have always been against the expansion and who spoke against them for weeks on these same forums, your opinion is probably highly influenced by your preference that GW2 should be run by Living Story alone and therefore you will surely be against the idea of an expansion whatever the expansion will include.

At no point was I ever against an expansion. I said, according to the developers, none was coming down the path anytime soon. That said, please discuss the topic. Not me.

Good point, Nyres. Yes, it seems, with Blizzard at least, they cut something from their announced items. Guess we’ll see if ANet does the same.

To be honest, that was my first impression as well. “Way too small to be called an expansion. They’re just curbing the appetite of those rampant for an ‘expansion.’” But I’ll wait for more updates before I stick to that opinion.

Yeah . . . seeing another set of trenchcoats is kind of . . . tiresome.

I recently started playing the original set of games. Heroes makes it pretty much a breeze, but you’ll have to adapt to the gameplay.

It’s worth it if you’re into the lore and/or want the achievements the Hall of Monuments gives in Guild Wars 2.

Otherwise, no, not really.

There are times the original games can be struggle in frustration . . . especially if you don’t study the proper forums to figure out what to do. The pet/hero AI can be a bit wonky.

And, to be effective as a solo player, you must micro-manage your party like mad.

That all said, you will vastly appreciate certain events and sights more in Guild Wars 2 if you have history with Guild Wars 1 . . . like seeing Ogden Stonehealer again and going through the ‘micro’ ascension and fighting your doppelgänger. Or reading certain names on gravestones like Nicholas Sandford and Professor Yakkington at Ebonhawk.

All references to the original Guild Wars.

But, again, be prepared to change your playstyle if you try the original game.

That was what was intended. It’s exactly what we have. Not 3 roles, 8 professions. Within those professions, there is a also versatility in traits and utility skills, which can be switched out from encounter to encounter.

You want to play tanks n’ healers? Wooden Potatoes has videos showing a 22K-group-healing-every-15-seconds build and a high armor, high sustain warrior build. Slot those, grab three ranged DPS and have at it. This game system gives the freedom for both that and high efficiency play. You can play trinity right now.

Yet, you want to throw away that freedom and make everyone play trinity. That’s what you’re really asking for. Why? So you can get into the PuG versions of speed runs with those builds. These complaints are essentially asking ANet to throw away one of the game’s core design features so you don’t have to type anything in the LFG and don’t have to make any effort to find the like-minded.

I’m loving how three of my predictions about the Heart of Thorns have come true so far. If, after we defeat Mordy, Jormag and the ‘eternal winter’ comes, I’m opening a soothsayer shop.

I got as far as the bloodstone bricks, saw I needed around 500 in certain crafting, and then the fractal requirement. That last part was the proverbial straw. I sold what was left over. Won’t say I never looked back because I have. Almost five full tabs of Bloodstone dust sometimes makes me wish I hadn’t given up.

But is Mawdry worth it?

I still say no. I believe, eventually, there will be another way to use, sell, exchange the dust. I hope there will be. But if the incentive is to just be rid of the dust, in exchange for some random item, then no. It’s too expensive for a lay person, much less someone who hates crafting like I do, to drop that much gold into a glorified garbage disposal.

Again, not worth it.

Oh heck. Sure enough, it only happened in 2013. I always thought of it as something akin to the Chinese New Year. But, nope, they didn’t repeat it last year.

Hope they have something to tide us over until the expansion’s release.

I know Dragon Bash happened in June, but I don’t recall any other seasonal between now and then.

Maybe an anniversary celebration?

That’s happening in the original game in April.

I wouldn’t call it a failure on Living Story’s part. I’d call it more supply and demand. People demanded an ‘expansion’ and now ANet is supplying it . . . in the disguise of a big Living Story update.

I’m very interested in this answer as well. There seems to be some confusion. The fact they’re promoting underground, ground, and above ground content is kind of strange to me given we’ve already experienced it in Silverwastes.

Zone, region, continent . . . wish they’d just say how much and how many. But, as Displaced says, if it’s one huge, and monster, map, it’ll be moot.

Funny, I got my staff use on a ranger request.

No new pets to tame, as far as we can tell, but I don’t know that for sure yet.

Because people have an expectation, after two years, that there should be an expansion. There’s this belief than an expansion, whether correct or not, will add a huge amount of content to chase.

Still, ANet is giving the people what they want. If they want to disguise Living World content as an expansion, and make us pay for it, who are we to complain?

Anabasis, I hesitate to respond to you, given your personal attacks and erroneous jabs, but allow me to answer your questions.

Yes, I did spend time posting there would be no expansion given that the developers themselves said they had no plans for an expansion in the near future. Again, the last time they stated this was over a year ago this January.

I was wrong. Let me repeat that: I was wrong. Don’t know why you, and some others, think this is a hard thing to admit, but reasonable people don’t argue when a theory is proven otherwise. Am I suppose to lash out or be embarrassed because the developers went in the opposite direction? I even quoted them by saying an expansion was in the future. But they also said, “Not anytime soon.”

I’m more than thrilled with the announcement. Sorry you feel my hesitation about the amount of content is questionable, but that’s just my humble opinion. And again my apologies that you think I’m trying to ‘kitten’ on everyone else’s bonfire.

But the mere fact you think I cannot bear ‘seeing other happy about the game’ or that I would ‘prefer to see their enthusiasm shattered’ is pretty left field. Guild Wars 2 is, by far, my favorite MMO to date.

I’m just as excited to see some of the changes. Especially with the ranger mastery. So your conclusions, about me, are completely wrong.

That said, while I’m flattered you and a few others remember my postings, I don’t think I’m the actually topic of discussion.

I’ll lose my kitten if there’s a ranger specialization that allows you to summon two pets at the same time. Or mix-and-match pet abilities. Or use underwater pets above ground.

Really hope there’s a mastery built around the pet.

If the ‘zone’ is more of a region, and includes multiple zones in abundance, with Heart quests and the like, I’ll happily eat crow.

Unfortunately there’s one thing you’re blithely sailing past. The fact they only had an hour to cover everything they did. kitten, even I know there’s obviously more than one zone for pve, if the trailer was anything to go by. If I remember correctly, they did say they were opening up the remainder of maguuma. That’s more or less the entirety of the map west of DR. They also gave us more vertical progression in the game in such a way that there’s no total gear re-grind (outside of drastic reformations from specializations). And that’s forgetting the new borderlands map too.

Frankly I’m disappointed people forget, or dont want to realize, that the PAX announcement was basically a synopsis of what’s coming. I doubt they could go over everything being added even if they reserved the entire day.

If that’s the case, and they open a huge amount of zones, i.e. the entire map north of Maguuma Wastes, I’ll be more than happy to scream my excitement.

On that note, you don’t find it odd, that within that hour, they only mentioned one map zone? Wouldn’t it have made more sense to say, oh I don’t know, “And we’re adding thirty new maps for the players to explore!” for example?

Previous trailers made Silverwastes look massive, but we know better now.

Still, we’ll see as they release more and more information.

Apparently, they’re supposed to be our allies now. That’s a real twist. And I’ll not spoil it if you’ve not played Guild Wars 1.

They do look quite different from the previous game.

It looks like a combination of dervish and ritualist. This makes sense because many of Guild Wars 2’s classes feel like a combination of many Guild Wars 1’s classes.

Oh I’ll admit it. I was dead wrong if you want to call what’s coming an expansion. Is there a problem saying your were dead wrong about making a prediction in a video game? Are egos that fragile because some stranger made a thread that said, “Nah, nah, nah. I was right!”

I must admit, I kind of surprised they’re calling this an expansion given some of the circumstances because, really, it reads like a glorified, if somewhat daunting, Living Story update.

Let me explain.

We get one new zone, that has three levels, something akin to Silverwastes already. New content, new achievements, and new mobs. They revamped the upper tier leveling systems, gave a new profession, and put in guild halls with some minor PvP and WvW changes.

And they’re calling that an expansion?

Now, before you jump all over me, think about this: Other than the new class and upper ‘mastery’ level, you’ve seen everything I mentioned in prior patches and updates through Living Story.

I get the distinct feeling they’re calling it an ‘expansion’ as opposed to a huge, Living Story update, to prevent the flames and pitchforks that would otherwise happen.

Again, not to be negative Nancy, but I saying, “I told you so,” over a glorified Living Story patch isn’t something to be proud of or gloat about.

It’s actually something a lot of people predicted.

It’s a sad statement, but the mega servers did kill off a lot of the RP community. Not completely. But it is not as abundant as it used to be.

Very noticeable on former ‘RP’ servers like Tarnished Coast.

I must admit the 75% sale leads credence to the thought the announcement will be an expansion.

First off, the speculation about Silverwastes eventually dying is correct. I’ve finally got all the organs for the ascended gear last night. The last mini too. Now I have zero desire to ever return to that map even with the nice loot.

That said, I really don’t get the AFKers at all.

I’ll freely admit, when I can, I’ll drag mobs onto those people and then stealth using an ability. Without fail, the AFKers will move or run away. So, obviously, they’re paying attention . . . just not wanting to help.

That I really don’t understand. If you’re there, why can’t you assist in getting the loot or goal you obviously want?

I’ll never understand that.
