Is World 2 too hard?
Yes, yes, yes. But, to be fair, I’m not a Zelda or Mario World fan. Still, compared to the World 1, this is just brutal. Even in infantile mode, any misstep is just unforgiving. After so many deaths, and frustration, I finally gave up.
Maybe tomorrow I won’t be tempted to kick my dog over this, but much like the Queen’s Gauntlet, I’ll probably be skipping this event.
The bottom line is this: If it’s more frustrating than fun, then it’s a failure. And World 2 is definitely more frustrating than fun.
It definitely needs addressing.
Here’s a reality check: I can now area-loot in a bigger range than I can send my pet. That makes zero sense. What am I? Mr. Fantastic? My stretch across the way to get loot, but my pet is near-sighted as far as enemies?
C’mon, ANet. That makes no sense at all.
I want to applaud the people who are helping PuGs with this dungeon. While this’ll be the first set of achievements for an event I won’t be doing since launch, I still want to say thank you to the people running it.
You guys are the antithesis of everything that was wrong with the players camping the cache in the PvP Jumping Puzzle.
It hasn’t gone unnoticed.
I think the ideal solution would be to put in a ghost on each platform that, if talked to, transforms you into a ghost. While transformed, you have the Determined ability and are immune to all attacks, but it also disables all your skills. As a ghost, you also can’t open the Mistwrought Chest at the end. Exiting the transformation also teleports you back to the beginning of the JP.
This allows players who just want to get to the end of the JP for the achievement/cache to do so, but they also can’t hurt or hinder other players in any way.
An excellent idea, but I doubt it’ll ever happen.
Honestly, it depends on the group you’re with. So, let me tell you a story about what happened to me tonight.
Got a PuG, I know first mistake, and we entered. One guy almost immediately disconnects. We get as far as the cannon, everyone hides behind the tower, and the mobs start to come. I’m using group rezzes, and two forms of group heal, but people being people, decide to stand in those red circles anyway.
Everyone goes down except for me, and I attempt to rez someone. Mobs proceed to beat my behind. So, I back off and start to fight them . . . and I’m winning.
Group leader disbands the group in the middle of the fight. Says it’s a waste of time and blames me. In a PM, he tells me I’m the reason people are ‘kittens’ on the Internet.
I apologized for not being able to group heal everyone repeatedly, rez everyone while three mobs are beating on me, and DPS those mobs to death. Though, granted, I was doing the last part pretty well.
Yeah, that experience reminded me why I like to solo.
Again, the bottom line is this: This dungeon punishes though that are more apt to make mistakes in combat. It’s rather unforgiving in that regard. Don’t know if that’s good or bad, but people will be quick to point to someone else for their failings.
It is what it is.
Yes, they count toward the achievement. I got mine. It was 37/38. But, now, it’s 38/38.
Honestly, the entire reason for the nerfs is because of the way rangers used Guard with a Cat on the walls of PvP.
Cat does less damage (50% with a certain attack), can’t climb walls, and now the pet is leashed to the shortest ranged possible. The shortbow range nerf is just gravy.
A lot of crying caused this one, folks.
What Gorani said and said well. The mere fact that certain posters cannot support their point with naming calling and saying people are ‘whiners’ pretty much speaks for itself.
If nothing else, look at the example after example of the posters denied the achievement in this thread, not because they couldn’t do it, but because opposing players denied them completely. And not because there’s a gain in WvW for the jumping puzzle, but because . . . well, because of their own agendas.
Hopefully, developers who read this thread will realize that and make appropriate changes in the future.
@Ardenwolfe and then big kitten boss with “one-hit-melee-kill” comes and here ends your greatsword usefullness.
and it comes his “one-hit-kill” have range 900 in the circle around him
and here possibility of using post-patch-sb ends
so in this case You should be gald You have range 1200 weapon (1500 if traited)
at WvW post-patch-shortbow usefullnes ends on small group roaming – with 900 range You are useless when it comes to defend tower/keep
That’s just a given if you’re using a boss creature. Now use that same comparison against other mobs and players. The exact opposite is true.
Quit cherry-picking.
Even with the changes, the longbow is useless compared to the greatsword. It’s like night and day in comparison . . . sadly. Even with the shortbow changes, it’s obvious shortbow is also the better choice against longbow overall.
And that’s in PvE. Let’s not even go there with PvP.
Question: The Fortifying bonds trait that reads: “Any boon you get is shared with your pet”. Does this work in reverse? As in, do you get what your pet gets?
I wish. Sadly, no it does not. I’ve tested this repeatedly, in and out of combat, and it made no difference. However, you can gain the buff if close to the pet when it adds said buff. But, if the pet is out of range, you get nothing.
However, the pet will get any buff you gain no matter the distance. In this way, Fortifying Bonds is very powerful especially if you gear toward healing for example. That continuous regeneration is also given to the pet should you tank with, say, a devourer or drake.
I don’t even know what to say other than this has made me very miserable.
I made peace with the fact that the three achievements from the dungeon I will never ever get, but now because of this ridiculous jumping puzzle I can’t even get the caches achievement.
I have never experienced this amount of frustration from a game before.
This sums up the entire reason why ANet should never do this again. At no time should your customers ever feel this way about your product, which is suppose to entertain, much less because of the actions of other players.
Sad, but well said.

Sometimes, it’s better to leave a group, that’s an utter failure, because of personality, lack of skill, or lack of sense. If that group feels the need to ‘punish’ the leavers because of its overall failure, that’s when I quit the game too.
It’s bad enough that some content requires you to group. Don’t make it worse, should those players decide to try, when the group contains elements that make the game more of a choir and a test of patience than actual entertainment.
If you feel so strongly about those ‘leavers’, block them, write down their names, and never group with those persons again.
What you’re asking is akin to that blind-date dumping you. You don’t get to send her to jail afterwards. It happens. You’ll get over it.
On that note, it’s always nice when someone who wants to go through a dungeon have a complete meltdown in map-chat when they cannot get a group together.
Makes me so glad I avoided that group nightmare.

Well, then also tell the other guys that complain because they have to do the WvW JP that WvW is WvW. It can’t be compared to other PvE JPs. The other guy above always tried to explain it was PvE… while that JP is in a WvW area.
Nobody is forced to get that achievement. It is a PvP achievement. By placing the cache there it is a PvP achievement. You can’t just say it is a PvE achievement… PvE players are forced to go there.
It’s PvP. Just because if you go there at a time when it’s empty it is possible to do it without fighting others does not mean it is PvE.
Instead of picking apart your wall of text, and explaining yet again in detail, with examples, how wrong you are, I’ll make it simple this time.
Whoosh.
Pro tip. Run the puzzle during off hours; like nighttime, school hours, even dinnertime. Most likely kids wont be camping the puzzle for easy kills during those hours. Avoid doing it over the weekend and evening unless your ready to fight!
This would be true normally, but with summer vacation on, it’s a little less likely. But, still, it is the best option. I did mine during the wee-morning hours. So, you still have a valid point.
You would think an Elementalist could spell
Boo-ya!
Yes, that’s a big complaint about the flying birds. I think one poster called them . . . flamboyant. Still, I know a lot of PvPers swear by the owl.
At this point in time, I wouldn’t suggest ‘reducing’ anything as far as the ranger class. But regardless, most classes can mow through that regeneration if they’re made to burst damage.
Also, keep in mind, a guardian is wearing heavy armor, can use a shield, and has multiple forms of instant healing.
A ranger, at best, has two. One is burst . . . kind of. And the others are situational. If done too soon, it’s wasted. If done too late, it’s pointless. Regeneration, if desired, is only truly viable if the ranger basically gears for it. If this happens, their damage, which is already sub-par, is even less than your normal rangers.
They’re going for a long-term fight. If that’s the case, they should win if the other class isn’t damage specced.
Regardless, I seriously wouldn’t be making this suggestion now. And I suggest you get your fire-proof suit ready.
It may not be pretty.
I already told you. The difference being is this: you don’t pay me squat nor do you have any say on my career. You’re not my customer. You don’t ensure the checks keep coming.
We did civil. It had no effect. I’m not saying uncivil will work either. Obviously. But there’s no need to go off the deep end either.
Please notice I again did answer your question in a civil manner. Your attempt to get a rise out of me failed. But you hung yourself doing so. There’s a difference between your question and my response.
I suggest you look into it.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Seriously, if all that hate was directed at you, would you be motivated to work at all?
The answer is yes. Do you know why? I would want those unhappy players to be happy again and continue to play my game. Again, why?
Because I want them to continue to pay me and make my company money. Especially if I want to keep my job.
If you doubt this, I can point out more than a few MMO companies that went belly-up over the last few years because of this exact scenario. This includes a certain MMO president who lost his job over it and his sloppy handling of the given situation.
Next question.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
That reminds me of a story.
I got into a PuG that didn’t want ‘another’ ranger since we were so useless. It was the Fire and Ice dungeon. We got there, and the entire group wiped on those last two bosses.
Everyone, but me that is.
And I soloed them.
The first one went down and the entire party rezzed. And a minute later, the party died again. Yes, you guess it. I soloed him too and got everyone the chest and achievement.
The point isn’t to brag. The point is to tell you that sometimes it’s up to you to prove the group wrong. Yeah, it’s an uphill battle, especially with recent changes, but if that group or guild was that ignorant, they did you the favor of self-identifying their stupidity.
Consider it a blessing in disguise.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Keep it up guys! The best way to motivate the ANet balance team is to insult them into buffing rangers! Forget about meaningful discussion, who needs that crap, amirite?
/rolleyes
Sadly, we have that other thread with a TON of helpful suggestions and meaningful discussion to improve the class. We even had manager or developer interaction. Please point out where any of those suggestion saw use in the game.
We’ll wait.
At this point, the community isn’t in the mood to be nice. While I’ll freely admit I’m loving certain changes, which shall not be mentioned because I want them to stay, I completely understand why some of our peers are a bit . . . peeved.
So, we have spirit ranger made useless, bleed rangers made useless, and now this newest nerf.
Honestly, you’re asking the the community, the people who pay for the product, to motivate the people selling the product into making a better business?
Please think about what you’re asking.
Unfortunately as they put this particular cache in WvW, it does make this one a PvP one. That an otherwise entirely PvE event is requiring us to partake in PvP for completion is the overall complaint.
You have a valid point, but the event itself, and the content, isn’t PvP because it’s placed in the area. I can prove this by doing the achievement, which I finally did, without fighting another player. Again, the only issue I had was the environment itself.
The fact that people want to fight or grief you into PvP as you attempt to get this achievement is secondary. And unfortunate. But, I think the point is made.
We’re just spinning our wheels now. Again, hopefully, ANet will never do this again.
On that note, I just tested Concentration Training again . . . in combat. It didn’t do jack with the pet’s buff. I used the Red Moa, the fern hound, anything that could buff itself while in combat.
No change.
However, there was an increase of healing by twenty points with the healing from Compassion Training.
Evasive Purity did nothing at all.
No, it’s not required. But, I think it fair to say that people play the game for the achievements and the entertainment. Some people are somewhat fanatical about those achievements.
The point is, whether people like it or not, the game is there for their entertainment. If they play money, via gems for example, they’re in a business relationship with said company. And if they’re unhappy, they can complain or they can leave.
I think it’s better, from ANet point-of-view, to hear the complaints as opposed to the deafening silence of players simply leaving.
While I don’t agree with every complaint, by any stretch of the imagination, there is some validity in many of them.
It’s up to ANet to decided which are valid and which are sour grapes.
You mean ‘Protect Me’? Guard is something very different.
@ Arden: And why exactly is the cache PvE content
Because it doesn’t require you to fight other players to gain the achievement. It requires you to jump through a puzzle to reach the end. As stated prior, with Dragon Ball or Crab Roll, you need to defeat other players to gain that achievement.
Specifically, you MUST kill or defeat players to gain the achievement or content required. That makes those examples PvP.
You have no requirement to defeat or fight players in order to gain the cache or achievement. To the point, you can go through the entire puzzle to get to the cache without ever seeing another, and opposing, player. The achievement doesn’t require it.
That makes the cache a PvE content. You, the player, versus the puzzle, the environment.
It’s that clear cut.
Thank you again. I knew, at some point, they did, but I had no idea why they stopped. On that note, I would be all over Concentration Training if it stacked with say ‘Guard’ and the benefits from ’Nature’s Shout’ or whatever it’s called.
No, eb jp is not PvE. It is very much PvP. And it is not incidentanl because of the area it is in – there are traps in that jp and given there are no creatures, these traps are designed to be used on players. Even the rewards of the jp are PvP. eb jp is PvP because it has been designed as PvP, not because is was placed in a PvP area by ovesight.
It is incidental. Not because of the jumping puzzle, but because the cache is placed in that location. Any PvP that occurs there, while the cache is in place, is incidental because of that situation given the increase population flow due to the updates.
The cache is a PvE achievement designed for PvE in every location save this one.
There’s no getting around this fact.
Ah. Well, the Agility Training not stacking makes sense. Thanks for the other explanations. Yeah, I tested all of them either out-of-combat or with a speed buff already up.
It’s one of the many traits that do nothing.
1. Concentration training doesn’t do anything.
2. Compassion Training is iffy at best.
3. Agility Training does nothing.
And on and on. Guess I’ll add this one to the list of traits that do nothing.
Seeing a pattern yet?
Yes, expect more nerfs and no fixes. to the class. It’s kind of what’s been going on for a while . . . sadly.
Well done. Yes, if you have skill, knowledge, and maybe a bit of luck, it can be done. On that note, I’d love to see that video too.
Yes, the race is a permanent addition. But the mini racing moa is not. Better get it while you can.
The jumping puzzle always hasn’t been “jumping only”. Otherwise they would not have PvP enabled there. If I remember correctly they already nerfed it(building siege there was possible in the past).
Also: Players that want all the JP achievement(most of them are PvE only!) need to to this one too – which is WvW(PvE and you can get attacked… not only jumping). Nobody complained about this so far.
Also for legenadries you need WvW(because of badges) while most of the stuff required for legendaries is PvE.
Again, you’re missing the point. I’ve explained the difference over three time now. If you’re still not getting it, then you’ll never get it because either you don’t want to get it or you’re just incapable.
The point isn’t the jumping puzzle. It’s the cache. The cache is the point of this entire thread and its location. While all the others are in PvE, this one is in a PvP zone and certain players are taking advantage of those players who would not normally be in that environment. It’s the entire reason this thread was posted in the first place.
Don’t know how much clearer I can be.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
The problem is the community. No, not like that. Like this: the ranger community tries to help each other with this class.
Over time, we’ve found what does and doesn’t work. As more and more players share this information, that class or the mechanics involved get nerfed.
An example we all understand is the Spirit Ranger in beta. And then, the bleed ranger. Both powerful, and both nerfed because . . . well, that’s another topic.
And now, it’s Beast/Bunker’s turn for the same reason. Good players share their knowledge. And they share it here. Sadly, I’m here to tell you that was a mistake.
I don’t want those players to stop sharing their knowledge, but it’s a double-edged sword.
Do the Devs read this board? Obviously. But it’s not for the reason you think.
There have been lots of other PvP achievements already mixed with the PvE stuff. Remember stuff like Dragon Ball? Crab Toss? It’s not your usual PvP with your class and the class skills. But it is still PvP. People complained. ArenaNet made it that the achievement does not count towards meta. That’s all.
The problem with your example is that those areas, toward the achievement, specifically embrace fighting or competing against other players. In that case, no, I don’t believe the ‘complainers’ have a leg to stand on.
In this case, you’re trying to reach the end of a jumping puzzle. This doesn’t require you to fight other players to achieve the goal.
That’s the problem.
The actual goal is to reach a certain destination via your ‘jumping skill’ more or less. That makes it PvE. If you were required to fight other players in order to score toward said achievement, granted.
But it’s not required. It’s incidental because of the area. Again, it’s PvE. As far as what ANet will do, I doubt anything will be done for this update.
But, it’s my hope that they never do this again.
Again, many of you are missing the point. I don’t care how quick you are if you have an entire group waiting atop the well to jump you. Or how about those nice people who aren’t killing you . . . they’re just throwing throws to knock you off the ledges to get their giggles.
The problem with arguing the area isn’t PvE is because ALL the other caches are PvE. The mere idea that it’s now PvP content because it’s a PvP zone is nuts. In the other six or so areas, there were no mobs waiting to jump you en masse or knocking you off cliffs for their enjoyment. Other players are doing this . . . not computer generated enemies.
Really? That has to be explained?
While I agree it’s not the ‘end of the world’ or words to that effect, many players are completely unaware that certain other players are more than willing to kill them much less grief them. And hello? The griefers KNOW those players are on their way.
They’re not suddenly camping that area to play twiddle-winks, you know.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Let’s be very clear to the people missing the point.
Yes, it’s PvP. But the CONTENT is PvE. The only reason the puzzle area in WvW sees this increase in traffic is because PvErs are going there to gain the PvE achievements and content.
And thank God for mesmers. Finally got this done, in the early morning hours, due to the kindness of a mesmer who ported our people.
If ANet employees actually read this thread, please place content in zones designed for the players who play in said zone. PvP content for PvPers. PvE content for the PvErs. You guys know this.
You separated the dailies and/or monthlies into those areas for this reason.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Completely agree. And found this out the hard way. The majority of the players understood that the majority of people going through there were trying to get the cache and the achievement.
They let well-enough be left alone.
And then there were the others. The ‘others’ is the specific reason PvE content should never be placed in a PvP environment. It’s grossly unfair to the ‘carebears’, as some will no doubt say, because pretty much turns them into lambs for the PvP slaughter.
While I have no doubt the PvPers love it, that’s not the game the PvE crowd spec’ced for nor desired in the first place.
And if the intend was purely to kill, I could almost understand it. Getting pushed off from someone with just the intent to frustrate their fellow players is nothing more than griefing.
Period.
It depends on what is ‘really’ coming out tomorrow. I’m heavy BM-spec. Been so since beta. I’ll know for sure come tomorrow.
good players will adapt, bad players will post on the forums in a blind fit of rage without testing anything new. It’s the nature of mmos
EXACTLY! the cream will always rise to the top and the players who love their ranger will play ranger. with or without a nerf. eventually new builds will become viable. the thing with the ranger class since day one is that we’ve been forced to adapt to the crappy hand ANets dealt us, so what’s changed?
Yes and no. The idea of an MMO is to entertain its players. Yes, players adapt. But, if you repeatedly make bad choices to a class, those players eventually get fed up and find their entertainment elsewhere.
The idea that players will stick around and ‘adapt’ to change after change has been the belief that’s killed more than a few MMOs.
ANet needs to keep this in mind. Otherwise, they may be forced to find out for themselves.
I also agree with the OP. The amount of crying and complaining on the boards lately is really surprising. Overall, I’ve liked the updates and events. Not since that “other game” has an MMO held my attention for this long.
ANet really is doing a great job.
One question: why does it say “user was infracted for this post” by the time stamp on this post?
One of the people or persons the OP mentioned in the post (not by name, mind) apparently complained and a moderator edited the post, I’m guessing.
(edited by Ardenwolfe.8590)
Oh awesome. Thank you.
Moa money. Moa problems.
You are awesome.
So, for the time being at least, we should expect the minis from the event to rise in price.
Thank you.
Just to be clear, will these mini never drop again? Yeah, I got Faren when he was cheap, but skipped Kasmeer and tried to farm for her instead.
Thanks.
Honestly? I wish it would be permanent. Not because I love the mini-game. Hardly. Because I can’t bring myself to play it more than two or three matches at a stretch before I get bored.
I loved the achievements, but I’m starting to think this’ll be the first ones I just skip in Guild Wars 2.
And that says a lot for me.
After the zerg killed her, give or take three minutes, I was the only one to say anything. And that was, “Woot.” A minute later, a person said, “All I got was a freakin’ blue horn.”
If that tells you anything.
I must agree. This is my least favorite thing they’ve added as far as events. Granted, I feel like I have to do it for the achievements, yet I’ve stalled, stalled, stalled because of my dislike for this mini-game.
Love it. Thank you for addressing these issues with the sickle.
I must concur. Between the random bugs with the mines and other nonsense, it’s my least favorite instant or dungeon so far. Eventually, yes, I did get all the achievement. But I never hope to see a repeat performance of this style of adventure again.
