I play Ranger myself the only ranger i have and i never had as much fun as i have atm in WvW i do 18-21k dmg on ppl with light armor 14-17k dmg on ppl with medium armor and 11-14k dmg on ppl with heavy armor even some berserker warriors i attack i can get my dmg up on 18k and simply just use my skill 3 for stealth dodge in and finish him in my opinion ranger is the most usefull class for killing back tail in a blob and i love to do it i die sometimes too yeah i have trouble against eles but sometimes i can even outplay them cause alot of WvW players have no idea how to play 1v1 i see alot of thieves even jumping me and using everything they have when i have signet of stone on xD its funny as i turn around with my greatsword and do 9k crit with skill 2 its funny as hell

We talked polearms. No polearms in this expansion. Colin said “We warned the art team what the community would think when they saw the trailer, but they chose to make things the way they did.” It looks like a polearm but it is not. No word if they ever will be.

As for Warrior, my vote for weapon specialization (although it’s not going to happen) is… no weapon! Bare fists all the way baby.

Most people advocate for a reset button that’s only active outside of WvW. Which seems like fair game to me.

I am fairly sure that blatantly obvious hackers is an exception to the naming and shaming rule. They are supposed to be named and shamed. That rule is meant to avoid “OMG this player is a kitten, look how stupid he fought against me lol!” etc. But yes, mailing the exploit address is the best thing to do.

Unfortunately, and as seen in the dozen or so threads that were deleted or edited and locked where the now-infamous thief hacker was named, they delete them. No questions asked, because those are the forum rules, no exceptions. It was only thanks to a video sent to exploits@ that Michael was able to to track down and ban the guy.

Since the video has the account name as well, you’re best-served sending that to exploits@arena.net. It’s pretty blatant, so it should get looked into rather quickly.

Me too. It’s never been made clear to us. What about WvW guilds that span multiple servers in the same tier/matchup? There’s obviously no way to prove they’re engaging in match manipulation without being a part of them. There are simply a lot of things that we don’t know.

With free trait resets now in the game for over a year, it makes complete sense that we should be able to do a WvW ability reset on a per-character basis as well. I’m past the point of having anything to spend ability points on anymore, but I would have loved it a few months ago.

I think you misunderstand. I do not believe anything nefarious is going in T1 at all… well, maybe some people that share guilds across multiple servers, but I don’t think that’s a majority. I see 3 servers that are perfectly happy with the way they are. I don’t seek to change that. The only thing I think of in terms of T1 is that it does not exist in a league of 6 servers, wherein 3 of those 6 (you) want absolutely nothing to do with the other 3.

I want you to get out. Become Platinum Tier, maybe. And when I talk about “push weeks” I am not necessarily talking about a coordinated effort between all 3 servers to maintain the status quo, but I do watch the income evolution, and any time a T1 server gets too low in rankings (as was pointed out, too many times in 3rd) it will push to regain some of the glicko it’s lost. For the brief time that FA was in a 0.07% RNG chance of rolling T1, the bottom server, in this case TC, pushed hard, and overcame BG to take second. This is how T1 stays locked.

I only wish that you didn’t have to bother with such silly things. Go fight it out to your heart’s content without worrying about being in 3rd too long, or whatever. After a year and 3 months, you deserve it.

There is a non-zero possibility of a shakeup with the release of HoT — with Anet considering a large influx of new players that don’t know where to go, since servers are a somewhat antiquated concept thanks to megaserver, what will they do to WvW? They’re not dumb people. They know that T1 has been locked for a long time. They also know that it may be off-putting to new players to see so many servers full and locked. I have little faith that they will make a wholly informed decision about what to do in that case, considering what they did to fractal levels, pvp ranks, etc. There’s a new BL map coming, a whole lot of new players, and a whole lot of other changes to the dynamic of the game. Do you think even T1 is safe at this point?

There are push weeks in t1. I will try to find the link that was posted in these forums a while ago of the top 3 servers on TS discussing it.

Ah, there it is. I’m on HoD. I didn’t want us to break into effin Tier 3 let alone T1. I was happy with where we were in T4. Don’t believe me? Look up my posts from a few weeks back on the “troll forums.”

I am an interested observer in all tiers NA; all leagues. I treat the whole thing like an enormous game of Risk. I love watching the map politics play out in realtime on wvwintel. I watch the point evolution of all servers. I keep track of what guilds claim what and during which times. It’s all very fun to me, sometimes more than actually playing WvW.

And there is no comma between secretarial and position.

So you assume people on low tier are generally bad, because they play on a low tier?

To be fair, they are on average less good lol. Dh spent years in t6/7 before we ascended as far as t3, we’ve fought t5 servers really recently, and the skill levels seem to be much higher in the higher tiers. In fact, the servers made fun of for being bad tend to be better than bronze servers to be honest. I don’t mean to be offensive, but imo the skill level is definitely lower the lower you go. That’s rationally explained too, by the fact that the higher you go the more people there are, more people = more fights, more fights = more practice to get gudder. It’s funny, because I know many pug zergs in higher tiers that can easily wipe even numbered guild groups from lower tier (Tryden zerg from Dh, Bannok zerg from SBI, Nacho zerg from Mag etc etc…).

It’s not always the case that the higher ranked the better, but it’s a general rule of thumb that has definitely held true as I’ve witnessed Dh rise from t7/6 to t3/4/5. I’d say T3 > T4 > T5 >>>> T6 ? T7 ? T8. T5 servers (specifically EBay) don’t seem that far behind, while specific T6 servers (from what I’ve seen) seem absolutely horrendous (I won’t say which servers in specific). Don’t mean to sound condescending, this is just my honest observation.

I dare you to find a lower-tier guild group with numbers even to the SBI, Mag, or Dh zergs. You’d have to stick a guild group in there with 60-80 people. Where are you finding a guild like that? [WAL] from CD maybe? Because that is the only one I can think of.

As I’m sure many of us already know, Tier 1 servers have not changed in a very long time — only counting ranks, not tournaments, so this brings us back to February of 2014. Now, I don’t really have a dog in this fight, as I haven’t been to Gold since HoD was T1 (Season 1!), but I still wonder… at this point, why is there a Gold league? Why are there even leagues at all? The chances of a T2 server rolling T1 are almost infinitesimal sometimes, and most of the time the RNG chance is actually a flat zero. My first thought was “why bother with leagues?” and then it changed to “why not just stick T1 in its own league?” and then finally “ok, I have no idea what to do with Tier 1. Gold is just broken.”

With the way they’ve been dealing with the tournaments, league-locking and using in-league Swiss-style matchups, the chance of the top server in each league going undefeated is extremely high. In fact, that’s exactly what happened in the previous tournament season, with Gate of Madness undefeated in Bronze, Jade Quarry undefeated in Gold, and Dragonbrand undefeated in Silver.

If we’re going to have a tournament sometime in the future, the same thing is likely going to happen. With the way JQ/BG/TC do their so-called “push weeks” (which, please, call it what you will, but this is the method of win-trading they use to ensure the league stays locked), it’s going to be incredibly difficult for any server to break in. Personally, I would love to see FA try to push its way up just to get some spectator excitement, but let’s face it, T1 is a bit like cousins marrying cousins — if any T2 server “dares” to randomly roll that tier, it’s going to be a 2v1 smash fest. There’s almost zero hope of anyone else pushing and staying there.

Since I don’t think forcefully dividing the population of Tier 1 is any kind of viable solution, I’m kind of at a loss as to what to do here. I almost think T1 should have its own separate EotM-like game mode where they can just play to their hearts’ content and never have to worry about push weeks (as well as not having that nigh-unattainable carrot for Tier 2 anymore), or whatever other silly nonsense they have to do to ensure none of the 3 servers drops too far. Still, I can’t arrive at any solid ideas. What do you think?

This is really the same problem with almost all of these suggestions, isn’kitten If it’s “easier for the smaller server” or “easier for the outnumbered server,” it’s likely going to be vastly easier to do it on the larger server.

I want Anet to fix this, dragonbrand server reads full, no new guilds can transfer to the dragonbrand server after losing 18 or more guilds over the last month or so, dragonbrand was very high, then went to full after losing 18 or more guilds, thats over 400 accounts, they left because sbi and maguuma sided together against dragonbrand and its stayed that way for a month and a half, it was never fair and led to dragonbrand losing all there guilds, to add insult to injury the dragonbrand server reads full so no new guilds can transfer to dragonbrand to make up for the massive amount of guilds that left, the only other servers that read full are tier 1 servers, dragonbrand is not full, anet needs to fix this, a lot of damage has been done, this needs to be fixed sooner then later

It’s full because the server is loaded up with PvE players. It’s named Dragonbrand, so new players see the name and stack it. Happens with any “cool” sounding server names, such as Darkhaven, Blackgate, etc.

Anet can’t fix it. Either a server is at capacity or it isn’t. And the reason those guilds left isn’t because of some perceived 2v1 against DB from the other two T3 servers… they left because DB was constantly full and it was no longer possible to bring anymore players over. The recent 75% off sale basically sealed your fate.

It’s been over a month since I’ve encountered any lag issues (the last being our first meetup in T4, when HoD BL was near-unplayable). Keep up the good work.

Presumably he means the actual field effect. It happens to me too, where I don’t see the field and run over its red AoE without knowing it.

This story has also now been regurgitated on several gaming publication websites, ripping off the BBC article almost word-for-word (looking at you, PC Mag and PC Gamer). It’s getting a lot of attention.

Also, what on earth is wrong with the people in this thread who are claiming Anet had nothing to do with this? Chris Cleary, game security lead, actually posted the link to the youtube video himself and then said “oh yah, he’s banned.” Go read the thread, there’s no way you can possibly white knight your way through this.

I liked the reveal. I had been hoping this would be a defensive counter to the pirate ship/Ranger meta that’s been floating around, and that’s exactly what it appears to be. And more mobility! I can definitely see myself sticking with this specialization all the time.

This is a good point, I think. It’s not necessarily about whether or not someone was banned, it was an entertaining example of what might happen if someone else tries to do the same. It should stay on youtube as long as possible, so the next time anyone thinks of doing this on their account, including buying gems and spending whatever other amount of money to ruin the experiences of others, knows what’s in store.

The player’s name and other details were never released. That would be highly unethical, but that line is never crossed here. It’s just a digital account with a digital nickname with digital goods that was performing illegitimate activities for a very long time. The moment he broke the TOS, that account was no longer his — and as such, Chris taking it over and doing what he wants with it, while giving us the satisfaction of watching, has made my and many others’ Guild Wars 2 week.

There’s two schools of thought regarding the dislike of EoTM: 1) “I hate EotM. I don’t like to play it.” and 2) “I hate EotM and wish it was gone.”

The first is reasonable, and the second is not. I am of the former school of thought, in that I don’t play it because I don’t like it, but I would never want it removed because I know that a lot of other players like it. I think a lot of folks on this forum confuse the “I hate EotM” people with the “I hate EotM and everyone that plays it” people.

Make it more like Alliance Battles from GW1. Create 3 factions. They can either be player picked or keep it by server but group servers together to eliminate empty maps. Games would be played and finished in one setting. There will be multiple maps for each side. When a faction is losing the maps are pushed back towards their territory favoring them similar to AB but since there’s 3 factions instead of 2 there would need to be maps that can favor 2 sides. Each team would have maybe 20 people and games would max at 30 minutes. People can join a game in progress. Multiple instances of each map like AB.

WvW is just so dead most the time it’s not worth having. Something has to change.

This already exists. It’s called EotM. Have fun!

Can you point to the part of the user agreements and rules of conduct that says this is not allowed? You can’t, because he is an employee, and the game security lead at that. Is there anything in the user agreements/rules of conduct that says it’s okay for Steve Whiteside to lower map caps? For GMs to be able to go invulnerable and switch servers at will while observing? For the programmers to completely disable the use and creation of golems at will? Etc, etc. If they were playing the game normally with their dev icons up, and then suddenly went invul when dying or switched to the winning team, that’s against the rules. But they don’t do that. They are granted additional powers that they can execute whenever they feel they need to, and that is totally their right. You do not get to decide that, sorry.

I think it was absolutely the right way, because Anet has not been entirely transparent about the bans they’ve handed out in the past. Sometimes an example has to be made. Oh, and if you think this is wrong, did you not play GW1? In that game, GMs and security staff were able to execute a ban using a unique reaper-like avatar called Dhuum, which publicly shamed anyone who violated the rules — inside the actual confines of the game itself.

Your “cheating is not okay but this is going too far” defense falls flat when these individuals have spent all of their time ruining the game for hundreds of other people, for weeks and sometimes months on end. That’s going too far. What Chris did was an appropriate and tactical response to that behavior — if you cheat, prepare to have this happen to you. A good lesson.

That was more satisfying than any Dhuum ban I’ve ever seen. Now the jerk gets to go back and watch all of his stuff be deleted; it will be there for as long as youtube cares to host it. A great end to this story.

Just wait until the mesmer elite specialization hits and there are even more sources of ratwells. And if necro ratwells weren’t bad enough, mesmer ratwells (judging from the well in the preview video) will also have an additional rooting effect. Onward to hell!
