Yup, it’s bad for EU tier 1 Eternal Battlegrounds right now. The cool thing I just discovered is another perf counter that correlates better with the lag than total CPU. Y’all in a big fight right now? I guess if you are you’re not posting to the forums.

Giving us player update is not solution at all! Will Arena net fix the lag? Yes? or No?

I don’t want to be impacted by all the Gold-seller mail/map chat/whispers/etc. Should my needs be brushed aside because a small amount of people will hit the cap? It would impact by quality of experience playing this game if measures were not taken to help curb RMTs.

Is my experience in-game as a paying customer worth less than those will large amounts of in-game Gold?

Food for thought…

Those gold sellers only impact you for a few seconds at a time. You block, report and move on. Certainly much less incovenience than having artifical limits on transfering gold.

The problem isn’t that gold sellers are an inconvenience, the problem is people are actually buying gold from gold sellers. Which encourages them to hack more accounts to do more business. Stopping the gold sellers by the limitation, which severely hampers their ability to conduct business, you limit the amount of gold sellers wanting to do business in game. If the buyer can only recieve a limited amount of gold per week, why would they want to do business with them if it takes 2+weeks to receive their goods? At that point is not worth it to buy gold from third party sites. Plus it greatly increases the chances of buyers getting caught if they have to wait longer.

I think you’re vastly underestimating the ability of ingame gold/commodity sellers to adapt. If they can’t send gold, they will use something else. Again, just look back on GW1.

Unfriggin-believable lag tonight. Engaging 10 or more was downright unplayable. TS was just fine. I think half my time running tonight was spent hearing or saying “Are you lagging?” “Yeah I’m lagging.”

First time I’ve run in a large group since last Tuesday. This is ridiculous.

It doesn’t. Send as many as you want (it doesn’t matter when sending gold either — there is no send limit, only receiving). But yes, you can receive as many items as you want regardless of value.

That gw2wvw.net is some awesome kitten. Blob guilds blob together and outblob enemy PUG blob and then they whine that enemy using siege and defend keeps. Need to remember that they don’t care about PPT. Their guild blob just wanna fight against PUG blob even numbers because it’s not fun if you have even small chance to lose open field fight.

In my experience anyone who uses a gamepad against those who use m+k will never be able to perform equally in twitch-based combat. There is a long history of this, so I cannot imagine it being an issue. That said, most if not all modern gamepads can be bound to match the functions of m+k. Anyone who desires to play that way so desperately can easily do it themselves.

As some others have said, while the percentage of people Chris/ANet have estimated to be affected is 0.175%, that is likely a wholly inaccurate figure in that I find it hard to believe they’re counting other people who are indirectly affected by this. For example, I was member of a 500+ member guild about half a year back, and everyone wanted to pitch in to buy the leader an expensive (1100g) staff for his birthday if I’m remembering correctly. One person, an officer, was in charge of collecting the money and then executing the sale. Of those 500 or so people, they were the one who would be directly counted towards that 0.175% number, but the other 500 members? Likely not counted, since we were all sending relatively small amounts of gold. It went off without a hitch, the leader got his staff, and everyone was happy.

However, I doubt that ANet can accurately gauge how the rest of the guild would have been affected by this change. There doesn’t seem to be any way to measure that. Much like in the case of weekly lotteries which may have several hundred people contributing, those people are all affected, but don’t have the (dis)pleasure of being counted as “affected” by a hard cap. It was a band-aid to a problem that does exist, but a band-aid that doesn’t solve anything. Sends are still unlimited. People can still trade in items like ecto or extremely high-value items such as the staff I mentioned.

ANet has a long history of never admitting they are wrong (in fact, there is a sinister “don’t-ask-don’t-tell” rule going on with exploits where patched exploits are never even mentioned in update notes, which is a bizarre thing — wouldn’t you want your user base to know they have fixed a way for people to cheat? It’s not like we don’t find out anyway). New “features” are rarely ever rolled back even if nobody likes them. It’s a narcissistic way of conducting the development of a game, in that the presiding idea in the company appears to be “if we like it, you WILL like it.” And that’s just sad.

Change your lottery to 1 ecto per ticket. It’s a silly, silly cap that perhaps yes, doesn’t affect the majority, but for something as innocuous as running a fun activity like a lottery, there should be some sort of way to bypass the arbitrary cap using a validation system. Until then, trade in items that have a relatively stable value. I only mention ectos because that’s how we got around it in GW1. I’d rather see the ecto market crash or inflate to crazy levels just to point out the absurdity of the cap than to do away with legitimate game activities altogether.

It’s pretty terrible for me. I usually average about 100 ping, but I was trying to gauge it when dueling earlier today: ~100 ping when OOC, as soon as I start fighting it spikes to 200+, then will peak at ~400. It then gradually goes down once I’m OOC again. So weird, and kitten near unplayable.

I think it’s absolutely hilarious to put a gold restriction on ingame mail at this point. People will always find a way around it. As I and several others have mentioned earlier, there was a limit of 100 platinum that could be traded/stored on a character at any given time in GW1, and people found away around it: they traded ectos instead. There is absolutely no point in this, because if gold stops being a currency that can be used for person-to-person transfers/guild withdrawls/etc among the 1% (0.175% as it were), they will invent their own currency. Just like GW1. Sure, it doesn’t affect me, I’m just a guy looking on from the sidelines, but I’m sure as hell grabbing a bucket of popcorn to watch how this all ends up going down.

I so wish that this was actually enforced regarding jump-dodge macroers. They’re easy to spot; the folks in which every dodge is a jump-dodge and not just some of them, even in the most intense combat situations.

I never, ever insult an ally. If they walk into a duel between me and someone else, I just stop. If they win? Awesome! It’s likely that at the point they intervene, the other player is low on health.

That said, there are generally people from other sides spectating. It’s pretty easy to spot when you walk up. You jump in the middle of that, things are bound to get weird.

This does not fall within the category of “leeching” and many of the PvP rules do not apply in WvW, at least subjectively according to the game masters and other Anet reps. There is history there. For example, it is against the rules to sit in spawn in sPvP and not contribute to your team. It is not, however, against the rules for guilds or groups to gather at spawn for upwards of 15 minutes, so they can rally and party before moving out. In sPvP, you are kicked out of spawn after a short time (not sure what this time is, but less than a minute). sPvP matches last for 15 minutes. WvW matches last for a week. There is a reason why rules differ between the two modes, and this is one of them.

Whoever thought that adding a bog-standard collection quest worthy of the worst of the worst of MMO thoughtfarts to WvW needs to lose their job. I mean, seriously, what the hell?

Wait your kidding? I don’t remember them saying that?! I seriously liked the old map, there is no way the would retire something like that indefinitely! All the hard work someone actually went through to make the BL maps is just going to be thrown in the trash?

He’s not kidding. The Alpine BL maps will no longer be in rotation for the immediate future. They will be reinstated soon™.

I still find it hilarious that there is actually a forum code for TM. Only Epic Games has ever done that with their “It will be released in two weeks™”, which was a running joke that meant “we’ll get around to it when we feel like it.” There is game development history there! Google it, it’s fascinating albeit in a sad way. Wanna know the forum code? ( tm ) without the spaces.

Anet, I’ll let you know in two weeks™ whether or not this mechanic works™.

If the only bonus to the look of Howler is the addition of the paltry footfalls and (admittedly subtle and nice) fog aura, as well as the terrible howling sound and moon/wolf on skill activation, I’d rather not bother. They need to make it worth 8 stacks of T6 mats, 77 clovers, 250 ecto, and a whole lot of time and effort for me to go to the length of crafting something that just “kinda sorta looks a little better than the precursor.”

I hope they realize this, and that their art pass on precursors has pushed their hand into taking a look at the actual legendaries themselves.

Funny part is that in wvw forum people seems to think that exploiting is ok and in PvE forum they don’t. I thought that these farmers were PvE players because it’s not hard job get ultimate dominator in wvw if you want it. PvE players seems to be much smarter than wvw players.

I think you have that backwards. In the identical thread in General Discussion, people are saying these folks are being penalized for farming the title by playing “smartly and efficiently.”

That’s PvE mentality, where a farm is a farm is a farm.

This was possible before as well, all you had to do was run 3 monitors in high-res or windowed mode with the vertical size shrunk all the way down. It’s just that now everyone has the ability to do it.

Or, you could just play in windowed mode on any computer and do the same thing by scrunching the window vertically. It was the only way to get a proper fov for years and I am so used to it I still run that way, even after the patch.

Never used in wvw though, I don’t pvp much.

While we have other unplayable bugs and abuse that Arena Net doesn’t care about…
- Ranger pets are aggressive even on “avoid combat”… and no one cares..
- Guild AC can hit over the T3 walls in veloka WvW
- Dungeon path selling for 10gold per 20min…

1) Yeah pet behavior has always been buggy.
2) Not a bug. Not abuse. Since Anet has allowed people to max their FoV, lots of people have noticed that ACs can reach over walls in many different places. This was possible before as well, all you had to do was run 3 monitors in high-res or windowed mode with the vertical size shrunk all the way down. It’s just that now everyone has the ability to do it.
3) Not abuse or a bug. Selling dungeon paths is generally legit.

No, he’s right. Many of the posts were deleted, including mine, where I quoted Anet’s own Jessica Boettiger from about 6 months ago where she said kill trading was not against the rules. I wasn’t infracted, it only said my post was moved to a more relevant subforum, and included a link to the new thread. Clicking on it? Takes me to “this page does not exist.”

That’s one way of saying “more relevant” I suppose.

I’m going to pick this point out of your post, because if past behavior from Anet is any indication, they absolutely do not like admitting they were wrong about something. It’s just not in the company culture genepool. Especially a massive feature like this that many hours and development dollars were likely put into developing. For better or worse, we’re going to be stuck with it.

And you’re being ridiculously hyperbolic about this. There are sometimes mutual rules agreed upon by duelers (some of us that duel often know them and nothing needs to be said usually). One of those sometimes-rules is that if someone interferes from your own side you can just let them be killed. Got a problem with it? Tough luck. It’s not against the rules.

What Stab has done to GvG/fight guilds

I’m just gonna come in here and host my opinion on this. I’m a player from Syn, not that it makes me any more qualified to put my opinion out there than the rest of you, but I have done a lot of WvW and here’s what I think about stab changes.

In even-numbered fights, the stab changes don’t mean much, so I have no complaint there.

However, the stab changes do make it ALOT more difficult to win outnumbered fights, for example 25v50. Now, zerg busting is not totally impossible anymore, but with the stab changes, it does put to rest the old meta of the melee train taking big chunks out of the blob whenever you had stability uptime, and for that 5s the frontline was unable to be touched by anything, because stability was not in stacks, esentially the frontline could go balls deep in a blob, do some damage, and get out before stability ran out.

Now, all your stab stacks are gone alot faster, since when your fighting outnumbered, the other side can put out A LOT of just random ccs, and it litters the ground everywhere, and all it takes is a few of them to mitigate your stab completely. What does this mean? The new meta will now revolve around solely range players, range poking each other, forcing the enemy to pop and waste stab, then engaging when the opportunity is right.

I am not QQing about the change, but I do agree it makes playing melee train in outnumbered fights a living hell and forces guilds to use a very stale and boring meta of just simple range poking for 10 years until one side dies, and when your outnumbered obviously the opposing side will have more CCs then you, so it’s only a matter of time before you die to attrition.

But hey, why does it matter, anet have no clue what WvW really is and how outnumbered fights work, which is why they made this stab change to encourage players to blob it up because your odds of beating zerg busting guilds is soo much higher now.

Not to mention the fact that the servers are lagging like crazy because they now have to do the stab calculations for so many players, and it’s pretty much tearing WvW apart. Lol, how ironic.

It’s only a matter of time before WvW just becomes as casual as PvE, which is exactly what Anet wants. This game is slowly being catered more and more to the casual player, while punishing players that want a challenge and to play it more competitively.(As far as WvW goes)

Am i QQing? No. Just stating the facts to all of you that have no idea about how outnumbered fights really work and claim to blindly think this stab change is going to do any good for blob busting guilds.

If all the good guilds were still around that recently quit the game for reasons, then you’d see them all developing a meta to revolve around the stab changes and attempt to punish opposing sides for it, and the meta would be an extremely stale and rely very heavily on you winning the engages and get all the cc pressure before the other side.

Basically, one push or get one pushed is the name of the game now, so you remember those 5 minute long outnumbered fights that were extremely hype and required you to be constantly on your toes and stay engaged in the fight for a long time? Yeah those are gone now, because if you try and stay engaged in a outnumbered fight for too long, your going to die to attrition no matter what.

Just my 2 cents.

Malyck is a character I want to know more about. Where is he? He literally just disappeared; he was intriguing and clearly knows of other places that exist we could explore. What’s his purpose? Origin (aside from NOT being from the Pale Tree)? There’s so many un-answered questions..

There are a couple of things we do know about Malyck. He came from a tree in Magus Falls. He remembers that there were others there. He left to find his people and promised to return with an army to fight Zhaitan. Other than that, he’s a mystery, and I’d love to see him make a surprise return in the expansion. If the Pale Tree was the only thing holding back Mordremoth’s influence, then I would presume that now that he is awake, Malyck and all of his people are now servants of the dragon.

Shrug. Impromptu duels happen all the time. If someone jumps into the middle of one and the entire other side kills them, I just let it happen. Same goes if it’s one of ours being attacked. Yeah, I have been on the wrong end of this and attacked people dueling in odd places, but I don’t really care after I’ve figured out what was happening. It’s just a thing you get used to, for better or worse.

The purpose of this mechanic has always been to mitigate spawn camping, kill trading, and as an added benefit, it also discourages botting.

The threshold of time before a player is worth WXP (and now also XP/Loot) has not changed, and is low enough that it is almost always the case that a player’s death will award WXP and loot in the time it takes for them to run from a portal keep to a nearby objective.

So good luck with that (she still works at Anet, feel free to take it up with her). Also, note the lack of loot/WXP/XP upon instant respawn in OS. The kill trading is purely for achievement farming, and I’m sure any who get UD from this will be named and shamed ingame. Participate at will, but know you’re running the risk of gaining a crap rep for doing so.

Warrior? Berserker’s Stance for starters. It won’t last forever, but maybe enough time for you to land a hard enough burst to make him think twice. Thieves like that are extremely difficult to counter on a War. The fights are either over immediately, or they last forever.

Yeah, it’s highly likely that the stress test is there to gauge how much this is going to affect server performance. What the hard cap should be set to, etc. I honestly don’t think WvW is in much danger.

The only thing I can think of is that, programmatically, previous to this change, stacks had a hard limit of 25 to iterate through (a recursive loop with a known end on a 1 second sleep — although they’ve now altered the sleep to a float which fixed condition durations that were not pure integers. I imagine this was a pain in the kitten for them, since it meant adding a float value to each condition’s data structure that is subtracted from upon each iteration of the main() loop — thus making all conditions infinitely recursive unless the enemy has none of that type of condition on it. Ouch). With the limit lifted, it looks like this: Servers can no longer rely on n=25, it’s now 0n, unless there is a hard limit beyond 100 that it caps at that we simply don’t know yet. I imagine there is, because iterating through multiple enemies at once, multiple conditions at once, with an unknown limit is just plain bad practice.

There will be a performance impact, since even in PvE you are still connected to a server. Any time you have to increase the number of iterations of a loop, you are going to see a hit.

That’s the thing, I don’t think it will. First response to the OP was along those lines, and nobody has reported a change in beta WvW nor a dev stated that it would. I highly, highly doubt that they would make a change as drastic as lifting the limit on condi stacks in competitive game modes without saying something about it first.

Then again, this is Anet and I’ve been wrong before, so what do I know?

Guess what! SweetFX still works fine. Go try that. I agree, it is not Anet’s job to support every or even any third party program that they do not themselves acknowledge they will support. It is up to the developers of said third party programs to adapt and make their software work with other software. I think you grossly misunderstand how software development and deployment works.

Well, it sorta does make a difference if it’s allowed to be applied to structure lords/champs. They will melt even faster than they already do. As I’ve said many times, the SMC lord is not the most powerful NPC in WvW; it’s Siegerazer. An NPC that only requires 5 people to activate in 60 seconds takes that same amount of opposing players about 5-10 minutes to kill.
