If you can spam damage conditions rapidly, you want condi damage over duration any day. Since people will inevitably cleanse, duration can be countered a lot easier. For example, guards can spam burn like crazy, so Sinister is a much better choice. I haven’t really tried condi necro, but with Reaper’s focus on chill, duration is likely better. I’d be curious what the duration spread is on a full set of of Viper, actually.. if you could increase the length of your chills by, say, 50%, that would be pretty great.

Really digging the changes I’m seeing there from when I tried (and hated) DH back in BWE2. The instant cast virtues are a huge improvement. That trap is also huge when used on a d/d ele, because it kills their manic mobility. Can’t wait to give it a shot later today.

Ark Bladesteele.2943

After this disaster of a beta, I feel sorry for the countless devs that will be working 80 hour weeks up until release to get this mess solved.

And considering that the biggest patch they ever did post-release was the April 2014 patch, which left me unable to play for a week, I’ll wait a few hours after release before I update so I can figure out if it’s (sadly probably) some sort of game-breaking issue.

Raids taking up World Map space?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Ark Bladesteele.2943

I can’t even begin to address how poorly thought out this thread is. Space being taken up on an imaginary map is literally meaningless. This means nothing in terms of what they can or can’t add in future releases.

“They’re taking up world space on a map that doesn’t actually exist and can change at any moment to suit their needs. I want a refund!”

If not everyone is playing the elite specs then not everyone is overpowered. Where’s your rebuttal now?

I don’t need one. Your argument is comical, and everyone thinks everything new that they haven’t learned to counter is overpowered. Some of these specs haven’t even had a full 72 hours to simmer and you’re already saying they can’t be countered? I believe that you, like the rest of us, simply don’t know how to play against them yet.

It’s a good thing posters like you are the vocal minority and Anet has learned long ago not to pay too close attention to someone whose posts make up a quarter of the total posts in the thread he himself created.

I personally think Druid is a great idea, and it’s still entirely possible to make a high damage spec Druid using gear and the other two trait lines. If we weren’t able to swap weapons, Druid would have been a terrible choice. As it stands, we can, so I’ll probably end up running a combination of celestial/zealot. I do kinda wish they had given staff damage on auto attack, and I think they still might.

While I wouldn’t mind a spec that can result in us not having a pet, the new pets are the only good thing about this reveal so I’m fine with keeping them for druid.

Where do we draw the line then between Ranger and Druid? Let Ranger be the pet guys and Druid the healers with a spirit form. Nothing wrong in having to spec Ranger if I want to use the new pets.

Because it’s just a trait line and not an entire class?

Show me the money trolls. Screenshot it and post it. I’ll eat my hat. I am looking for a screenshot with an isolated solitary elementalist putting more than 10 contemporary stacks of burn on a target with a condition tick higher than the one in the warrior screenshot, with no food or utility activated. That makes it apples to apples.

You’re delusional. It’s well known that ele already has the highest burn-stacking capability in the game. In fact, many don’t see a problem with the burn condition in PvP… we see a problem with how ele can stack so much of it, carry so much sustain, have so much mobility, and still maintain such high raw DPS.. all while stacking a ton of might.

Maybe read up on what other people have to say:

told you, RAIDs &Elite Specs

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Ark Bladesteele.2943

Ark Bladesteele.2943

Some how I told you so, just doesnt quite say it.

but Raids are coming. I told you all that the new Elite Specializations were built and balanced around the new Raid group content and not the Vanilla content.

all their insider testers were using a different build of the beta Elite Specializations and using it in the new Raid content, which is why some of the feedback they were gettinf was radically different from what public beta feedback was.

The public beta elite specialization were pre-nerfed so they dont appear OP for the vanilla content which they wasnt built for.

Raids are all about coordination.

Dragon Hunters for example are meant to be good for AoE defending against pack mobs and blocking damage for group and providing nice burst heals for the front line. Those things are useless roles in vanilla pve content.

tempest is built around group healing. A Raid leader will set up a few Tempest around the tank group to provide large burst heals from heal shout, while using elite shout to reset heal shout cooldown. Coordinated this could be some major constant healing unlike anything we have seen before in vanilla pve.

Revenant is built around this new pve content as well. Major heal spams, as well as a coordinated face tank of projectiles for the raid group. Also Raid leaders can set up Revs to provide massive damage reduction to the tank group.

all the Elite Specialization are built around this new Raid content, and are nerfed for the current public beta intentionally.

Told who so? Told us all what? Did you.. not know it was public knowledge that Anet was hiring a raid content designer?

You didn’t tell me anything. You don’t own the trademark on the revelation of raids. Go back to yelling at clouds.

"LB skills were generally well received"...?

in Guardian

Posted by: Ark Bladesteele.2943

Ark Bladesteele.2943

How it’s possible to completely misunderstand why instant cast Virtues are a staple of the class is completely beyond me.

Ok, really its not THAT hard to figure out: Right now Renewed Focus is our absolute staple Elite choice. In no small part because you can dump all your virtues mid-channel and have them refresh at the end. Making the virtues have cast time makes RF less appealing and is a direct attempt to wean us off of the one-and-only and make the other Guardian Elite skills more desirable/relevant.

Its not gonna work for many, because like every complaint about traps not giving sustain/cleanses/teleports people don’t want to try something new, they want all their old advantages plus a little more. Horizontal progression is about trade-offs and people already in a good place don’t want to move sideways, they just want to move up.

That would be fine, if it was actually horizontal! But I think many people agree that it’s a downgrade. How many of us said, “yeah, we really need another 1200 slow-fire weapon. And while you’re at it, make it root us!” Also, I don’t use RF. I haven’t since they introduced FMW. So that’s a progression step that I’ve already made without going DH.

Now, if the virtues were all worth actually having those cast times, there would be something to say for it. But a 600 range leap on a ~40 second cooldown? Who wants that? The shield isn’t a bad idea, but why isn’t that instant cast to begin with? The spear… again, 600 range, and if they get outside of it, the skill is over. It’s not particularly hard to move out of a 600 range on a class that isn’t very mobile to begin with, and it’s not really that powerful of an ability. Three strikes, you’re out. Now, if we could choose if we wanted to go, say, 1/3 or 1/2 on the Virtues, like how Revenant can change legends at will, that would be something! I like the shield, I’d probably use it, but I don’t want the spear or leap. They’re not worth it.

It’s also telling that in an attempt to make it seem like horizontal progression, they nerfed all Virtues by 600 range. If they truly thought the new Virtues could compete on a horizontal level with the old, they would have been able to stand on their own.
