Rerolled to warrior coz warrior escapes fight faster than a thief and do damage at the same time

Hah. Not at all. Start using the Thief crutch aka Shadow Arts and sprinkle (or go all out) in Steal traits.

The issue with Thief is there is limited options with playstyle (meta) but that is just as true as it is with Warrior. The role in PvP is almost polar-opposites so it’s a playstyle choice.

In a WvW clash, it is more likely you get stomped before you can get to use Vengeance. This trait offers no support whatsoever to the Warrior.
Better if it was:

Sweet Revenge
“Vengeance WHEN DOWNED AND has an increased chance to rally.”
Percent: 100%
Duration: 15 s
Cool Down: 20 s

thanks for the feedback!

i forgot about this.

yes, make it so that this trait allows warrior to activate vengeance immediately after being downed.

That would be so broken for sPvP and pretty much any PvE fight as well where most fights occur 1v1.

Maybe you are looking at this wrong, why not increase the material cost of everything else to bring it up to the cost of Bolts of Damask?

Hint, high gold prices for commonly needed “must have” or BiS items increases people’s need to spend real money on gems which is a far more likely scenario once ANet figures this out.

How to Make Fun Sigils:

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Artaz.3819

The issue with Sigils is that it mimics the meta. Staleness + offense>>>defense or utility.

It’s the reason that all the high-priced (aka most desired) auctioned sigils are either direct damage buffing or just direct damage (excluding the specific mob specific minus Undead).

IMO, Sigils should be unique effects that have influence (even if minor) in combat behavior since Orbs already cover the offensive stats necessary to customize directly but Sigils just do it better.

To be honest, what I’d want to see is more of Sigil of Frailty or Sigil of Ice like Sigils to actually just periodically add the specific condition to the attack on hit. And/or a boon duration (up to +25%) stacking Sigil.

That and Sigil of Generosity added to a mystic forge recipe and/or rarely through the mystic forge somehow.

Gold Transfer Changes

Artaz.3819

All gold sellers will do is buy more (hack more) GW2 accounts and transfer gold above the 500g limit. The receiving player is the one that deals with the funnel of the new mechanic. The receiving players (if they are smart) typically are using a cheap account themselves that is signed up to a main account guild storage bank. The gold sellers will send to the buyer of the gold through multiple accounts (if really even necessary).

Ergo, it does absolutely nothing to gold sellers. It only slightly hinders the players buying via RMT.

Now what it does do is the players buying will request the gold seller to provide via other items (if greater than 500g). The gold seller (again) loses nothing besides a little extra time which just means they’ll make even more money.

TL;DR This change does not in any way shape or form stop (or in any way hinder) the gold for real-life cash transactions. All it does is means more GW2 accounts are purchased from ANet. In the process, it hinders legitimate player transactions the AND adds uncertainty to the common and normal liquidity of the auction house.

IMO, learn the game with Warrior and then try a different class that is more well-suited for the game style you like to spend your time in.

Warrior isn’t horrible but it isn’t great either. At 80, the Warrior just revolves around crutches.

Crutches
1. Certain traits like Cleansing Ire (you get Dogged March and Adrenaline Health along the way), Fast Hands and a plethora of pick your flavor Adrenaline traits so the mechanic works) before finally getting to damage/utility traits like other classes.
2. Certain utilities (Stances, Banners, Signets)
3. Healing Signet
4. Longbow

Note, all classes have crutches. However, it’s the difference between must haves (Warrior so you don’t rage at the difficulty) and meta haves in your build.

I imagine if it’s on the table for Revenant that it needs to be tied to a Stance mechanic (Elite) and cost energy which would “balance” it against damage output or defensive activations.

Gold Transfer Changes

Artaz.3819

There really are very few situations where you would need to store extra gold in a guild bank and have to retrieve more than 500g at a time.

But we’re talking about 500g(max) not at a time, but across a week of playing. And once you take the money out and put it back in – the same gold will count again the next time you take it out. So even if you only own 50g (but take it out of your guild bank 10 times in 7 days) you will hit the limit.

In what situation would you need to take out 50g, and put it back in at least 10 times in a weeks time?
In what situation does the average player need to remove amounts of gold multiple times a week?

I can see maybe some potential issues with larger guilds doing raffles and such, but that can easaily be worked around by allowing a few more people to withdraw some gold to send to the winner. And the winner might have to wait a bit to get the full prize. But its more of a minor inconveniece than anything, and one that can be circumvented with items instead of gold.

(I’ll edit my post, I misspoke about the time frame).

Example: Putting a single bid for a precursor on the trading post. Guess what, you can’t do that now if you didn’t plan for it a week in advance that you would have the gold when the precursor price in within range. … I could think of a hundred other examples.

However, if ANet also introduced a “restricted gold” amount in your wallet (i.e. in-game interface to divide readily accessible gold for purchases behind a secondary password on the account) then at least this part is alleviated.

BUT the Gold Sellers will simply move on to Gold-equivalent digital assets like Globs of Ectoplasm (or per Reddit, Silver Doubloons or Lodestones which I hadn’t thought of prior) and dodge around the issue. All of these items are fairly stable and relatively liquid in the economy. A semi-sophisticated Gold Seller will even offer what items you want the gold-value asset in.

Gold Transfer Changes

Artaz.3819

Dear ANet, you do realize that Gold Sellers will now pick a highly liquid asset that represents approximate gold value (i.e. Globs of Ectoplasm) and use that instead, right? Of course, they’ll continue to use +500g immediate sales as well.

I’ve seen similar measures done by other MMOs and guess what happens? Alternate items are used instead and it’s a very vicious cycle.

Limiting gold transfer rates does not work. Monitoring and then quickly freezing/holding suspicious activity like a credit card company does work (quick release logic, is the send on the receivers friend list/in his or her guild/did they actually send a reply or to message, were they recently in a party, etc.). The KEY to gold sellers is quick delivery. If the gold sellers can’t guarantee a 48-hour or less turnaround, they go out of business as word gets around.

This is bad bad bad. Stop before you reinvent the economy for players. At best you killed a portion of the Gold Sellers gold assets (which they stole) from the 15% gold lost from Trading Post fees. BUT that all that doesn’t stop the hacking and only effectively increases the outside sale price of gold by 15%. At worst, you just upended the trading post economy and lots more legit playing and core players will lose out on the new screwed up economy.

Thanks for the Glob of Ectoplasm rise … doh ><

Follow up after 2nd round,
I did get all 5 mastery points that were available in the Beta and tentacle run is much better if you ‘know the path’ and could use the broken mushroom on the end to start the path over again (I think I got 66 total and there was an option to get out of /100). However, I foresee the event being done a few times and then being done with it. It feels a bit tedious and too repetitive (nice if there was various tentacle types worth more and less points).

By the way for all you wondering, Mushroom mastery did activate but it was near the 3-minute left mark of the second round of Beta. I had mastery points in it and was doing various smiting for the next round event when an onscreen message was activated that I had ‘learned’ the skill so I assume it was disabled for most of the Beta.

The Mushroom leap is basically a launch upwards (the one I used just underneath the rifle platform) to a predetermined spot in the middle area. It’s nothing like the Wildstar mushrooms which actually was a bit disappointing; also, glider ability option did not activate during launch.

You do not need to have the Mushroom Mastery equipped to activate it. IMO, “equipping” should probably be removed entirely but it appears to only be how experience is allocated to the mastery line which was disabled so it may change. It would be nice if the logic followed similar to WvW xp where each level gave you one mastery point and from there, you just spent and allocated regardless of what you had equipped at the time.

RE: Wyvern fight
The blow back, wing flap appears to be sometimes a 120 degree arc (most of the time) in front of the Wyvern but I’ve been clearly knocked back at near 180 degree (perpendicular) from the Wyvern. There is no targeting reticule with the Wyvern blow back ability so it’s hard to tell if this is intended or not.

Otherwise, the Wyvern fight was fairly easy to understand and learn. The scaling up of Defiant based on players present was “ok” but nothing too dramatic. I’d honestly move the defiant stacks up a bit more.

I purposely tried to melee the Wyvern a few times and the fight is far more range friendly. That’s neither good nor bad but it seems to lose some flavor.

Revenant
It’s very hard to measure the class when there were certain weapons missing (i.e. Staff), the trait pool is limited (2 1/2 trait lines), utilities are limited, and only access to Celestial gear. The class ‘felt’ to be on a solid foundation from a mechanic standpoint.

My only issue was both Elites don’t feel like Elites right now. There is nothing game changing when used (energy is spent better on other utility or straight cycle on damage utilities). Both of the heals were ‘ok’ but clearly are balanced around the instant-swap mechanic trait and that’s where the mechanic shined (needs more utility-based combo though). I’d hate for the 25-pt GM trait to be a “must” trait though just to have decent heal rates unless heavily traited elsewhere.

Hang gliding
Needs a tutorial of some sort would be my suggestion. It’s odd to jump off a ledge and not have immediate access to the gliding option. It just feels clunky. The pre-engage function of the Wyvern fight doesn’t get explain that you need to jump off the ledge and the gliding will carry you (hopefully) to the next ledge.

I, and I saw others as well, sometimes fall (not make it to the ledge) after gliding a bit.

Other
I did crash once during Beta during the Wyvern fight. I don’t crash often so I have no idea why. Report was submitted.

Otherwise, very stable feeling except for extreme FPS drops with cranked up FOV settings and Wyvern fire fields/lots of players present.

61 stacks of Bleeding in the Stress Test?

Yeah, the confusion stacks I assumed was a bug. After you get 3 conditions on the wyvern (from any source), Revenants just spammed thier short cooldown, low energy utility over and over and watched the Wyvern melt until it’s fly away stage where if brought down, it didn’t attack.

The Wyvern fight was far more balanced with a sub 7 or so players attacking it. A good pace but nothing too dramatic. Once you got to 10+, it was way easy if you and a few others used the Revenant condition melt build (TM).

That can’t be intended unless it is specific for this encounter.

This is a stress test. you will be in a small part of one zone with 10,000 other people, and you will mostly just crash over and over again I suspect. That is the point of a stress test, they keep loading up the server until it breaks. Then they see what breaks, optimize it and repeat until they’ve optimized everything they can, then they set the population cap at a point where it won’t crash with the optimized settings.

We also need to test event scaling and other zone-related factors. Much like how when HoT is released and 90%+ will in the same 2-3 zones.

How did beta attendees get chosen?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Artaz.3819

Artaz.3819

My hunch based completely anecdotal,

1. length of customer
2. prior Beta/Alpha testing
3. play-time availability (online during) the times of testing
4. achievement points on your account (experienced in all facets of the game) or potentially completion of the story/living story.

Note, gem buying has likely very little to do with beta invite (in fact, the opposite is just as likely to be true). However, if you are confirmed press (need to know the right people), you are in.

And obviously, you need to opt-in/sign up to be chosen.

I’m certain there will be twitter invites and other things so do not give up all hope.

Remember, this is beta. It’s about the vets trying to break things and give feedback. It’s nice to be one of the few but it isn’t going to be all cake and ice cream.

When we will be up to buy beta access?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

I have a sense that Beta invites were given based on the length of customer, prior Beta/Alpha testing, play-time availability (online during) the times the beta is supposed to happen and … achievement points on your account (experienced in all facets of the game) or potentially completion of the story/living story.

If you get a beta invite, I’d have to believe that is more important for vets to have one than a new user buying the game for the first time. They probably want the vets to try to break it and not get side-tracked or confused at every little thing as new players would.

Balanced stance 5 stacks?

in Warrior

Posted by: Artaz.3819

All AoE are half the stacks of the single target version utilities except for Balanced Stance. Stand Your Ground is 5 stacks AoE, on a lower timer (and can be further reduced with a trait reduction).

So unless Balanced Stance received a cooldown reduction, everyone will now be using Dolyak Signet instead.

The ANet thought was probably that well, Balanced Stance, also provides the Swiftness boon so it’s ‘balanced’. Pun intended

Rampage is solo fun

in Warrior

Posted by: Artaz.3819

Artaz.3819

One thing that would improve rampage is if we could keep the signets active during rampage. You get higher hp, armor and resistance to condis but you lose the healing signet. That is a big problem. If you stay for full duration you just lost 20s of healing signet.

It’s actually one of the primary reasons to not use Healing Signet on a Warrior.

You heal yourself to full via Defiant Stance and then pop Rampage. Defiant Stance (or any other heal for that matter) is then on cooldown during the duration of Rampage.

But the duration is still killer on Rampage though for an offensive transform/heal/utility skill/Adrenaline mechanic lockout. Banner rez heal is just too strong to use in anything not solo/low risk content.

New Guardian Bow Specialization

in Guardian

Posted by: Artaz.3819

Artaz.3819

Nothing indicates Guard Longbow based on known description as a true condition based weapon, it’s far more hybrid. The ‘1’ autoattack in DPS role adds vulnerability. The ‘3’ attack adds burn condition and a lasting Symbol (so area denial). The ‘2’ attack seems like it could be strong attack and a likely projectile finisher. ‘3’ attack could easily be a blast finisher.

It seems very close to a Warrior ‘1’ Rifle attack with the Warrior Longbow ‘3’ attack/F1 combustion shot (with less AoE unless spec’d for it in Honor). Many of the shots pierce. I see a very strong ranged option (when spec’d for it) for Guardian specialization for DPS. It’s a solid support option with with support heals (but probably needs that bounce or AoE heal component to be useful).

Regarding theme, remember that “Guardian” is being changed to “Exalted?” name when specialized. The theme of a standard Guardian changes completely.

funny that people always have to compare the warrior with the elementalist.
it’s like comparing a rich man with bill gates, saying then the rich man is poor.
compare the warrior with engi, ranger, mesmer, necro and guardian and finally things look less dramatic.

So the plethora of Elementalist players are all Bill Gates … There is only one richest man in the world. There are several Elementalists so the comparison makes no sense.

To OP, people are passionate on what they play whether you view it as whining or not is a matter of perspective. The fact that the board is filled with “whine” threads shows either there is a large conspiracy of players or there is, in fact, something wrong with Warriors from a balance perspective.

That’s a fallacy and not an argument. No one posts with complete objectivity. Not even the devs in charge of class balance and compensation/performance tied to it…

Even you are focusing on the pigeon-hole Banner utilities and zerg playstyle (which is actually much weaker now with the Adrenaline mechanic nerf) as the cornerstone of Warriors and conveniently ignoring the other aspects of the game (playstyles) where Warrior has received downward adjustments for over a year and months.

That doesn’t invalidate anyone’s opinion in this thread.

New Guardian Bow Specialization

in Guardian

Posted by: Artaz.3819

Artaz.3819

Honestly, I’d rather see the Guardian Longbow if it ‘hits’ the intended target and then it can bounce to allies (if in range of target) for heal. The lining up and healing allies a projectile passes through (i.e. like Staff 2) has already been used on another weapon set and isn’t very friendly to lag/group positioning.

I do like the offensive pull from DPS stance/support push though. That is what the Guardian needs assuming Taunt doesn’t completely take over.

If this the Longbow thing is true, the question comes is it going to be like old Ranger longbow with projectile speed (where target side-stepping makes it miss) or will it be projectile speed increase so Guardian won’t have the Scepter projectile speed issue all over again.

Tbh, anyone who plays WvW knows the hammer train meta isn’t even a thing and hasn’t been for a very long time. Youd have to play on a server with very bad people to see it still exist. The actual meta for large scale combat nowadays usually revolves around what it is for GvG, and that is stupid amounts of range pressure.

If you observe the open field fights of T1 and T2 where people are a bit more familiar with the current meta of fighitng, you’ll see that melee are actually the ones who have a hard time. It really depends but this change could completely eliminate melee in total. I mean a lot of fights now really just come down to who has more ranged pressure anyway.

True but Lightning Field + Spectral Wall + Line of Warding + Power Lock + etc. are part of day to day zerging in WvW. And if the changes are dramatic, Hammer training will be back in full swing (pun intended).

Taking a step back and laying out the various Warrior utility options…

A large part of the Warrior framework balance issue is actually caused by Banners which affects more than one stat AND also buffs more than just the Warrior and is a tradeoff for Signets which only have one stat bonus (except SoS) and exactly the same numerical stat bonus while having a typically minor active which then kills the stat. Both take the same utility slot resource.

IMO, under no common sense besides the fact that Banner-has-clunky-useability annoyances are the utilities balanced against one another.

Conclusion: Banners are actually holding back the Warrior class and pigeon-holing it to be forever a “unique” (also boring) offensive party support role (like the old Spirit Ranger issue).

The problem with triple swap is suddenly Warriors have 2 more Weapon Sigils on the 4s – 5s swap timer cooldown.

If you want a different weapon set, I’d go with the fix the Rampage route with lower cooldown to be used more often which would create all kinds of other issues. However, Rampage could probably could be fixed with having Physical Training basically tied to it (base Rampage ability damage would be greatly reduced but make it still allows for CC a related transformation and then with Physical Training, pump it back up to its current meh level).

For Warrior, conditions and hard CC. The hardest part is positioning so Warrior Longbow helps a lot to counter (Burn/Bleed/Immobilize).

Any Power Longbow ranger with its cooldowns up (Signet of Stone, Lightning Reflexes and Rampage as One/Entangle) is why Power Rangers are tough for everyone (not just Warriors). A well used Ranger Hunter’s Shot (free positioning reset) is far more annoying than Point Blank Shot for Warrior to deal with.

Was 100b really that OP in pvp that it required a nerf or were people really stupid enough to just stand there and eat the full duration of it?

Negative power creep. Everything else got nerfed into the ground and, suddenly, greatsword stood out.

So they nerf the easiest skill to not get hit by a full duration? Makes no sense. But hey what do I know, Ive never ate a full duration of 100b.

Back when Quickness boon was 100% increase in swing time instead of the current 50% swing time, 100B was actually pretty devastating to balance burst damage right (because Warrior also has strong immobilize/CC). Of course, 100B has been ‘OK’ since March 2013 and few complained about it since the burst aspect has been all but removed. Now it barely does more damage than auto attacking (it hits more often so builds Adrenaline quicker during but otherwise, meh).

warriors are good in supporting allies which is weird because i thought guards are suppose to be better support. so if you don’t mind being not a good roaming class like thief and ele.

To add, support for Warriors means using/placing Banners on cooldown and supporting other party general damage via other traits and utilities. Elementalist (and Engineers) do mostly the same thing but with combo fields/blasting but have to do it more often but it’s also more “mobile”.

While Guardians provide Aegis/blind and general roll-dodge AoE heals.

Both of them have their purpose in PvE but neither are anywhere near where they were compared to other class rank in DPS since September 2014 update.

This is in essence what a Greatsword/Hammer build is. It’s fun and aggressive until you meet the Ranger/One of the Condition Kings/the Evasion Thief/PU Mesmer or the Turret Engineer. Then you come back to reality and realize the meta builds are required because of such focus.

We need a consolidated Revenant forum like the other Professions.

Will base classes get Taunt/Slow/Resistance?

I’m assuming the new boon stops the condition completely, it’s effect and timer, once the boon wears off the condition resumes at the same stack and timer it stopped at.

The reference to the Warrior’s Berserker’s Stance and how that functions actually implies immunity to conditions for “x” seconds. In other words, no damage and no effects while the Resistance boon is up. I implied this to mean that the duration effect clock still keeps ticking while this boon is up so the the Fear condition continues as well.

If the boon expires (or is removed), then the Fear would continue with its effect as normal if any time remained.

The Resistance Boon sounds like a great counter to an ever-increasing heavy variety of condition meta but only if its tied to low cooldown utilities.

Single condition removal utilities/abilities are becoming even more laughable. Maybe this boon will be sprinkled everywhere instead.

New Guardian Bow Specialization

If it is true that our new mechanic is stances then that’s awesome to me. Virtues by nature(signets) are very boring so having something similar to Elementalists(attunements) begs for a more active(and fun) role.

I’m not sure why the virtues get so much hate. When properly traited the virtues are pretty awesome. Anyways, I am excited at the possibility of a new mechanic and using the longbow. Hoping we get some actual information about class specialization soon.

Here are my issue’s with Virtues atm.

1. Incredibly long CD’s on their actives which, to me, don’t provide enough benefit unless you trait FULLY into Virtues.

2. The passive’s are terrible. Virtue’s are inherently signets and yet if you took away the passives on at least Courage/Resolve, I probably wouldn’t notice.

3. The benefits given are boring/uninteresting at best that don’t allow for more active-play.

Again, these are my opinions.

Edit: I am honestly hoping it would be like an offensive(justice), defensive(courage) and support(resolve) type of change for stances.

Honestly, I kind of have to agree with this. VoJ is good, but both VoR and VoC suffer from high cooldowns and lackluster passive abilities. Renewed Focus aside, the only way to really make them effective is if you trait 6 into Virtues, but it’s kind of silly that you have to fully invest into a class mechanic to make it viable. Even a mesmer’s distortion shatter, which grants complete invulnerability for up to 3 seconds, is only on a 60 second base cooldown.

This brings back a point I made long ago that Guardian(and Ranger) are the only ones who have to spec heavily for their respective elite to work decently.

Rampage as One works great out of the box and doesn’t even have any direct traits to support it (there are a couple of synergistic traits Rangers have with the correct pet setup). Rangers also get a 60s Entangle that just gets better and better with traits especially SotF.

The problem with Guardian Elites is simple, the cooldowns are all too long (even Renewed Focus should be 60s base) for what they do.

A ranged, high AoE/piercing longbow with flexibility of being DPS or Support is crazy good.

But it’s a bit sad that all the condition-related DPS options are being ignored (why can’t symbols stance-changed to be condition givers?). Hopefully, the alpha testers are giving feedback on this area.

Dragon Ball is my favorite Activity

I think it’s pretty fun at first, but very same-ish. Every game you run around the same symmetrical area, doing the exact same things. Which is more or less true of all the activities, of course… but for me, Dragon Ball does seem to ‘get old’ a lot faster.

Well, two of the other activities are like Crab Toss and Keg Brawl, which have less interesting areas to run around. The tunnels and the jumps make this more interesting to me than the Crab Brawl Arena, where you basically run around the same circle.

Yeah, idk. Maybe it’s cause Crab Toss has a variety of abilities from all the stuff, some of which you can combine in useful ways, and giant karka crashing around enjoyably, and two different playstyles based on whether you’ve got the crab or not, and of course is entirely a very different playstyle from the main game. While the area is less interesting, the stuff you’re doing in it entertains me more.

It’s all subjective, of course.

Actually, I quite enjoy Crab Toss. The primary difference is that you are solo with the opportunity to have temporary alliances among players. The random aspect of unknown items (just with there were more variation) adds a small luck element to it as well.

However, what ruins Dragon Ball is the random ‘teamwork’ aspect with a very repetitive activity. Besides the afker’s who never get dealt with (since they are only there for 2 games and out) and the teleport hacking players (very odd that you suddenly appeared behind me). The middle damage buff is way overpowered and it isn’t announced when it is coming (unlike other PvP maps).

There also should have be “mini-brackets” for Dragonball based on player wins and then create a DragonBall specific reward track. Hint, give something for losing but not as much. Give something for most points (highest kill rate), most buffs consumed on a team, and most health bonus consumed along this track as well.

The Walk of Shame

A big annoyance issue for me is that with rezzing the dead is that when the bodies pile up, the rez-targeting should always pick the downed players first and then the fully dead players (unless specifically targeted).

Calling it now, New spec and weapon.

I think wielding a staff as a melee would be ultimately kitten. Silly casters and their spells, we’ll show them how you use a stick.

“Monk” or Martial Artist is far more likely be a future specialty for Guardian with Prayer/Spirit weapon mechanics.
