Rams are fine – it’s the Ballista drop that is infuriating…not even worthy of a real piece of siege equipment, that is pretty darn low.

#LOL! Don’t believe the forum posters one bit, Mag plays for PPT the far far majority of the time. Mag cares a good deal about their overall point ranking.

They have several teams of people (probably one/two multi-box) trying to ninja nearly every tower in your borderlands and when that “group” gets caught, they then set up operation catapult walls somewhere else so you need to be watching every tower from nearly every angle since you won’t have any visual map notice (unless you are T3 with guards roaming). Mag is just relentless in the ninja tower/PPT farming category especially during the off hours.

Be ready, be prepared! And those ninja Mag are usually so asleep/afk at the wheel while doing it, they don’t even react when you solo-stomp the two catapulting the wall. Enjoy!

Well, what the lack in skill, that make up for in emoting.

Chat options —> Unclick emotes = fixed

You only need to see 2 emotes as a solo roamer and those emotes are very distinguishable as animations if you are looking for them. The rest of the emotes is just spam/trolling in order to have posts like these appear.

8 80s here (all classes) and Guardian is actually better in every respect except appearance, solo-farming, and (a very minor difference) in burst damage which is easily offset by “burst reactionary” defense.

How you get there doesn’t matter as nothing adds to one another.

The difference of 8% from Warrior’s Sprint (25%) and Swiftness Boon (33%) is beyond negligible (especially with things like minor server rubberbanding in WvW which happens far more commonly than people realize since the PC graphics engine “fixes” the stutter view quite a bit – apparently ANet forgot about the code when they did the Mad King Tower jumping puzzle…)

(speaking my own opinion only)

I kind of hope SBI loses this week to take the pressure off the need to be the Silver ‘winning’ WvW server and we get back to the fun for the next 6 weeks.

SBI v FA v DB has been one of the best matchups that I can recall ever (hate that server lag though). SBI still has insta-join queues in some BLs on mid-day weekend hours so that says something about coverage and new transfers.

Let’s see what the weekdays bring…

The only problem with reducing the aftercast on Longbow is the already superior adrenaline gain of (2x hits) Longbow autoattack over Rifle autoattack.

If anything the cast-time/aftercast on Rifle needs to be reviewed first.

The ‘improved’ interaction between Soldier Runes and Warhorn trait was fixed this patch so … it’s OKish. Honestly, (the 3) Shout talents are way too many in this line and should just be combined given the lackluster 5, 15 and 25 pt talents. Remember, there is also another Shout talent in Discipline so it is strange to have 4 talents taken over 2 skill trees to have one mechanic work to its full potential.

And spec’ing up a talent tree shouldn’t feel like it takes 10 or 20-pts to have any improvement in a spec (it would be a different story if the +boon was +healing in this line, but it isn’t – and that would screw up banner builds). In other words, shout talents should be in the Toughness line. Banner talents should be in the Vitality line (like they are now) as they both are still competing for the same functional “support” benefit from Warriors.

I’m sorry to hear that, despite your massive coverage advantage over similarly-tiered servers and blatant cheating/point inflation scheme with SoR you weren’t able to take advantage of your best-case-scenario match up against SoR and obtain a Gold League/Varsity position.

However, I’d like to congratulate you on the wonderful consolation prizes you have won with your JV placement!

1) A massive influx of even more bandwagoners and fairweathers!

2) Endless hours of 24/7 PvD fun!

3) Loss of those rare and pesky “skilled” SBI players who will be transferring to a server that offers greater competition!

This entire “WvW season” thing was a horrible idea, and is only rivaled in horribleness by the fact that Anet gave people so much time to destroy their own servers via transfers, stacking, throwing, and the results of differing opinions on those topics.

ANet accomplished exactly what it wanted to do. It was to have people spend real money on their game by transferring servers via gems.

My guess is ANet has made the most revenue this single week/even this day from the gem store than any other week/day in the entire game’s history.

ANet’s C-Suite is extremely smart and the WvW players are playing right into it. This being said, ANet has just realized the untapped potential of WvW “competitive” play and will hopefully realize that the money is in WvW (and keeping the ‘move around to win season’ crowd spending money) and not eSports with a few private sPvP maps. In post season 1, I expect League seasons will be much much shorter than 7 weeks next time around and be more tight to encourage more server rivalry and more movement.

Is it just a tooltip error or is it confirmed complete removal?

EDIT: Arrow Carts (any siege) is no longer affected by traits (unless that was reverted/bugged into new build).

Win or lose that last place for Gold league, SBI still has its momentum and is moving its server rank upwards this week (thanks to the FA fallout) and its the same reason that Mag may end up in the NA high-tier league (despite one forum warrior’s claim of superiority). SBI probably just ran out of time to make it to the last spot and drew a “lucky” match up against SoR while FA fell down (see my post last week – heh).

There is always season 2. And despite the forum warriors, SBI beat Mag hard last week and it wasn’t all in just PPT.

But this week is not over yet…Mag better keep working for it.

How do you all use a Rifle on your warrior?

Considering Adrenaline gains as well, Rifle autoattack needs to fire ~.25s faster (maybe more) in order to compete with Longbow.

Having an arcing shot actually adds ~200 range to the Longbow as well so the base 1000 actually is closer to 1100-1200 (and even longer if you add the LB trait).

Rifle was great…pre-Quickness/pre-life steal crit food nerfs. Nothing wrong with it in solo-PvE/WvW kiting situations though and that’s where it lives and does OK because of the short cooldown on Aimed Shot and distance creator from Rifle Butt.

Here’s the thing… SBI is not going to make it to Gold League by the time Oct 18th happens short of a complete exodus by one of the upper 6 servers next week AND a really odd upwards roll of SBI getting a T1 fight (regardless of where SBI places in that fight). Sure, it could happen, but really will not and we’ll know by Friday server reset.

Another point, Mag will also be in Silver League and their only real competition is … SBI. Sure, there is always higher difficult server matchups so SBI and Mag can’t just take a break against the some of the harder weekly server match ups but really if you talk only in base coverage of people terms, there will be no other true population competition short of a mass ‘ninja’ transfer by a T1/T2 server (again, this likely won’t happen this season).

I actually see the winner of Mag vs. SBI as the go-to server for guaranteed rewards for the first WvW season (especially if the match up happens again next week) as oppose to T1 Gold/NA where it is not set in stone who will win (all top three have a solid chance and server draw/luck may actually determine who wins it all or as I like to put it, server pity by the #4 to #6 ranked servers).

For NA Silver League it’s either Mag or SBI and anyone who watches momentum of server placement can see its between these two servers. And both (besides the forum trollz here) have great communities and fairly decent WvW skillz despite the blob/zerg/lack of PPT-focus trolling in this thread.

But that is not to say that both sides could definitely improve their own game; there is a ton of mistakes and lack of coordination on both sides and sheer numbers does not compensate for lack of repeated map/objective/zerg-positioning attention.

Here’s how you shave without gutting the current Stun-Warrior meta:

Take Unsuspecting Foe from Adept in Arms to Grandmaster and move the crit rate in the talent from 50% to 100% – equivalent to Thief Hidden Killer (so it won’t entirely kill the CC meta build but will put it in its place as a CC build and not a CC + burst DPS build).

Take Furious and swap it to the Adept trait and make it so it creates double/triple Adrenaline (not 4x Adrenaline) on crit.

Helps the CC build perform its function and removes the massive spike DPS issue (when coupled with CC).

Like anyone would spec 30 points into Arms ( a trait line that has +condition damage) when using a Hammer or Mace. This wouldn’t balance the trait, it wold simply ensure that it never gets used.

You are forgetting the bonus from the trait works with other stun CC on the target (not just the ones from Warrior’s mace/hammer). It could have a specialized use. If need be, add a secondary bonus when the Warrior hits a non-stunned target (i.e. causes Torment, internal CD 1-second)).

The point is to move the broken OP Adept trait making the build have survivability, CC and burst DPS all in one.

If WvW, Dogged March, Lemongrass, Melandru/Hoelbrak runes, Cleansing Ire (or other alternative condition clear/immunity like Berserker’s Stance), Healing Signet, Adrenaline Health and use terrain/line of sight to draw out the condition durations.

You can’t approach a well-played Terror Necro build in a dual the same as most other opponents.

Faced many a Necros that believe I am running away when I am really just getting their fast-hitting condition in cooldown for my next round in 10…3-2-1… This Necro build is extremely common right now so build for it as it punishes all melee aggression tactic builds.

One thing that really helps is to create a personal guild (create several if you have room for it), and just take the first guild bank storage (500 for level + 500 influence storage). Create another guild (with just you in it) and do it again.

Only issue is you can’t store ‘account bound’ items but you can still put all your excess materials and random items you might acquire (just killed a whole bunch of exotic drops thanks to Dark Matter a few weeks back).

But even then, I still bought 2 more bank tabs yesterday

I’ve been on several servers over these many months (including 2 of the current big 3 NA servers) and I would say SBI population is actually growing now (probably due to WvW performance) but the server is also very guild-orientated. That could be a good or bad thing depending on how you view guilds and want to actively participate in one (obviously they are very open on SBI if you want to take the first step and approach).

I would just spend the gold (you probably have it if you have several ’80s already) or real-life money to transfer. And for PvE, guesting is there for a reason besides doing the Taco-event.

I heard some odd comments opposite of this yesterday (where did all the people come from? so many people guesting to SBI? why?) while doing the boss-event farming and knowing it is actually just general server population growth/guild transfers.

Umm, what? Theory crafting is far from dead on almost all of the sub forums. The major exception is the warrior sub forum. On every other one, as of a few hours ago, you can find theory crafting on the front page. Please stop making stuff up to try and explain why most of the intelligent warrior players abandoned that sub forum months ago. Accept that it’s the atmosphere there, and then try to change it.

One or a handful of voices in a crowd does not create an atmosphere.

It is quite a stretch to call it theory crafting when the Meta has been the same for over 2 months now. So you basically are saying because the “intelligent” Warrior players are not posting that they have abandoned the forum and moved on to another forum (as to oppose to just leaving the game or picking a superior class)? (1) why are you inferring all other Warrior players are dumb and that it helps the GW2 “atmosphere” to call other players dumb?

Since you are in need of an excuse, here is mine: Warriors is in a state where there is literally one sPvP build (and its minor variants) that rules them all…for WvW, you can stretch it maybe to one/two more build types. And killing that one sPvP build (which ANet will do) will not fix the other gaping holes in the class. There no truly other viable build options after the June 25th adjustment/nerf to the Warrior class. And that is the heart of the reason why there is low Warrior constructive Meta/counter-Meta postings.

Finally, people love to troll the forums of GW2 Warrior (similar to Thief in months past) which is why there is virtually no constructive postings (I’m actually still not sure if Daecollo isn’t also a troll 95% of the time as well). GW2 Warrior forum is also plagued without forum moderators killing bad and repetitive threads or moving stuff to the suggestion forums (need a polar-opposite example, look in this forum).

You add the above together and you get the State of the Warrior. No viable topics and no one in ANet wants constructive supportive direction actually cares to look at the problems with Warriors (example, you need a heal that matches other class viability (after breaking lifesteal crit food)…3 months later…here is a version, oops, not what I meant, here is another version 2 months later…oops, kind of broken). /sigh

No worries, I have a feeling ANet will make Warriors very popular very soon if they continue with there cycle of class balance without player-testing input.


Back on topic, I would just pick another class altogether (Thief) if you want solo-roaming.

This thread is pretty funny so it needed a bit more realism.

Here’s my solid advice, do not play either a Warrior or a Guardian if you want to solo roam in WvW. I have done both well beyond a healthy amount (I have several different 80s, need to finish up on my Ele when they become less … repetitive). I’ve played the most with my Warrior (over 1,400 hours now).

Warrior is only slightly better right now because of stun-chain-lock/Berserker’s Stance and Greatsword/Warhorn for some mobility (out of combat) because of the zerg-issue while solo roaming. It is rather straight forward though (kind of boring) and easily countered if the opponent has any sense of dodge/twitch so make sure you roll an Asuran Warrior. If you encounter a solo-roaming Warrior in WvW, there is either this CC build or you will beat it.

Solid advice, if you want a WvW solo-duo roaming class, pick either Thief or Mesmer (where you get to pick and choose your battles). Do not kid yourselves.

Oh, and the reason theory-craft on all forums and has gone further down is because the meta is VERY stagnant right now for all classes. Either you (1) rotate condition spam or (2) spam hard-CC or (3) you counter it (or all the above) or (4) you run a super burst/stealth build looking for easy kills (and run if it doesn’t work in the first 8-10 seconds) …but that’s for a different thread.

Fixes needed (at a minimum),

  • Gain Fury for 20 seconds
  • Gain 1 stack of Might per target struck while in Rampage, all stacks of Might are removed when Rampage ends
  • When Rampage ends, gain 30 strikes of Adrenaline
  • Swap ‘Throw Boulder’ with ‘Kick’ and swap the cooldowns appropriately between the abilities; ‘Throw Boulder’ now 6 seconds, ‘Kick’ now 12 seconds – Kick is next to useless without Dash
  • Reduce the cooldown to be comparable to use time (~90 seconds) or make the Elite utility a ‘Physical’ skill so that ‘Physical Training’ trait affects it
  • Damage of the Smash/Bash/Uppercut needs more umph! and Uppercut should be Blowout

you gain 1 crit chance for every 21 points of precision.

Problem solved – you are wrong, it is 21.16 precision per crit chance at level 80. Don’t believe everything you read on the interwebz as the rounding occurs after the total calculation and not before the modification from food/traits/etc.

People shelf their warriors when they get buffed? Huh..

Not buffed (at least in the overall), they received a significant damage nerf by moving one (arguably two) of the staple Warrior traits to Grandmaster in both respective trees from Adept.

Both of those traits (Berserker’s Power and Heightened Focus) could have been reduced slightly in potency but should be baseline master (15-pt) just like Adrenaline Health in Toughness. It makes so much sense in Warrior balance, it is a wonder what the purpose of all the trait shifting was for…

The end goal should be simple, add build diversity without completely killing viable builds while giving balance to all traits.

I won’t talk about Cleansing Ire here other than to say it should have been an F2 ability (not require an attack connection to a target) and baseline to all Warriors. It is a massive change to the Warrior but completely adds the next layer of skill/build diversity/balance tradeoff on Adrenaline class mechanic the class needs to have.

Final Thrust is a Bust!

Time the Final Thrust animation to connection with target (it is definitely more than 3/4 of a second). By rough guess, it’s closer to 1.25s – 1.5s (1 second immobilize expires before the animation completes) so either Final Thrust is bugged or it is suppose to be that bad. Sword swing time (auto-attack) animation is already significantly slower than Axe so the weapon is now basically for Savage Leap (which got buffed further).

Between the Axe nerf and the move of Berserker’s Power, Warriors have seen a major nerf to damage output (~19%+ over time) for any build that wants to have condition removal (not condition reduction via Dogged March/Runes/Lemongrass).

In other words, Warriors just became pigeon-holed in build options. Moving on to one of my other 80s. G’luck everyone – the prediction of September timeline is right on track that I’ll return to Warrior (maybe)

More like guaranteed twice, it’s one of the major benefits of the trait and GS.

Throw, hits target, immobilize for 1s, does damage once, piercing so it may hit others, returns, does damage again.

Note, before returns above, the GS may get stuck in a wall, tree root, flower, or one of a hundred different objects because it doesn’t immediate stop and return when the sword runs into those objects.

Correct, the longbow projectile abilities (because of the arc) can continue to hit targets beyond the range of the listed range on the longbow tooltip. The distance is maybe another 50-100 depending on elevation differences with a minimum of 900/1200 range to target.

Yes, the Longbow talent still reduces the ‘1’ dual shot by 10%. It’s a very old bug that has never been addressed (the other side is the massive 100% projectile finishers improvement that is also unlisted on the talent). It looks like ANet played with Longbow being a base 1200 range (request from Beta) and having the Strong Bowstrings talent add projectile finishers to everything but decided to reverse it and combine functionality into one talent (leaving the 10% autoattack damage bug).

The Longbow F1 is not a projectile finisher (also has a target reticule) so it’s distance (same with Longbow ‘2’ and ‘3’) is limited to the same range as listed on the tooltip.

To compensate, “obstructed” outweighs the occasional increased arc range so it rarely matters.

@Miklzz – If you aren’t dying as a Warrior in Zerg v Zerg from time to time, your Zerg either grossly outnumbers the opposition (basically you go down occasionally and get helped back up) or you are playing a ranged warrior with escape that sits in the backlines and runs away with any sign of trouble (don’t get me wrong, warriors definitely have mobility to run away). Even then, a portal bomb or opponent properly executed flank would roll you first.

But I fail to see how this adds to the thread topic on tanking (not surviving) as you may be thinking these two very different words are one in the same – they are not in the context of WvW.

Warhorn or Shield?

I actually prefer the warhorn for combat situations if you have the warhorn talent. One very major reason that you did not mention is mobility condition removal. You are not going to hit anything with your Eviscerate (or any other Axe attack besides Throw Axe) if you can not remove any mobility hindrance conditions.

IMO, movement impairment conditions are far more common than unloaded high damage spam in WvW. So in order for you to effectively use Shield, you basically need to be running either a high-tanky Shout/Soldier rune build (Toughness for Shield/Hammer/Vitality for Shouts) or running Dogged March/Lemongrass/condition reduction rune set with Shield in my mind (Mobile Strikes does not cut it and SoS/Mending is better used for actual damage conditions.)

As far as visually, I agree most warhorns look pretty bad but there are a few Exotics or the E model (add -bonhawke to the prior word). Many very nice Shield models once you get pass the wooden with metal garbage models.

You can land Eviscerate without Shield (use your other weapon slot (Hammer/Rifle or Greatsword (Leg Specialist)/Longbow) and use your 5-sec swap after mobility condition applied). Or just use Throw Bolas/Bull’s Charge as a utility.

In all fairness, BM Melee Ranger is just sick these days too for a different flavor of tanking (using Protection and Evades/Mobility versus Guardian Protection and Blocks/Heals).

I actually have a hard time weighing the 80 Guard v 80 BM Ranger (both geared) against each other…they both are +++++++++ to Warrior level.

The best footage is actually where an opponent uses a stun break(s), you counter with stability against your opponent, and both of you end up going into a downed state; but then you actually get to use Vengeance and kill your opponent only to fall over right after.

The problem is the time that has happened to me with my Warrior could be counted on just two fingers.


To the OP, your opponents didn’t move while you approached with Shield Block and blew their big cooldown damage abilities for some reason during your use of it. Neither apparently knew what an Elite was and only the mesmer knew what a stun break was but actually didn’t kite back to the friendly guards which were only another 300 range further away at the camp…

Your opinion on these Warrior weapons?

You will need to figure out your own playstyle. That being said, Greatsword isn’t a good weapon choice without Forceful Greatsword. Hammer isn’t a good weapon choice without a high adrenaline creation (and traits) build.

Axe/Axe is more general if none of those traits can make it into your build and Axe offhand just isn’t what it used to be before the on-crit weapon proc changes. Axe mainhand is very solid if you pick a weapon set that adds more (shield, warhorn (much better with trait), mace, sword all have their place).

I wonder if A-Net actually realises this...

What to do after hitting 80?

Keep the Twilight legendary weapon in the back of your mind and do everything else with the game instead. It is a long road unless you shortcut and drop real $$$s for gems->to->gold for an in-game item.

I’ve never actually equipped a legendary but that is because I would rather level several characters to 80 and enjoy the game from a different perspective than straight farm for weeks/months on end.

I have everything ready, just need the Precursor (like I have been hoping for a drop of one type or another for the past 3-4 months or for the mystic forge to hand one over). I am not lucky like most who have one are. FYI, after having all the various components for a legendary and no precursor, I have like 1.6M karma leftover on my Warrior. I do not know how much karma I have on all my other characters altogether but I would guess in the 2.5M to 2.8M range.

That should give you an idea.

EDIT: Oh yeah, I also have 100+ karma jugs sitting in my bank.

Agreed, the problem is the Vengeance cooldown (before it becomes active on downed) is too lengthy. And the 1/2 second (more like a full second) cast time makes it even worse. It’s a fine ability but extremely situational in PvE.

It might actually make sense to adjust Vengeance for sPvP only.
