If you paid any attention at all to anything they said about dungeons before the game was released you would know that Story Mode was meant for casual players and Explorer Mode was meant for groups of coordinated players and not pugs. If ou are doing badly in explorer mode and are using a random pug then don’t cry about it as it was not ANet’s plan for it to be easy.
Yep. They keep nerfing and nerfing to make this game even more of a grind.
If you spread your events out, instead of doing the exact same path over and over again, you won’t notice any change at all.
From all accounts it applies to all events across the world so yes you will notice it.
Really? Odd, I haven’t noticed any change what so ever. I would say wherever you are getting your information from is incorrect.
I believe it works like this:
Player A is in Guild A on Server A
Player A transfers to Server B but still has access to Guild A as long as he is representing that guild.
You can join any guild on any server but you will only be able to use the weapon/armorsmith/guild vault of the one that you are representing. Doesn’t matter what server you are on. So yes, if you all transferred nothing would change. If only half transferred then nothing would change except the guild vault. Maybe some stuff for WvWvW though as those are server based.
Yep. They keep nerfing and nerfing to make this game even more of a grind.
If you spread your events out, instead of doing the exact same path over and over again, you won’t notice any change at all. Funny how they want you to do different things, which you consider a grind, yet you’re fine running the same things over and over again, which is what a grind actually is.
I’ve only got a GTX 550 TI card and this game runs on max settings, never dropping below 50 fps. I’m just curious what dual cards would actually increase. I mean, every time I jump from a really high up area into water my stomach knots up because it looks so real and I think I’m fixing to die.
They nerfed the rewards you get for completing events over and over again. They did not nerf mob drops of any kind. If you’re not getting as many drops that’s RNG for you. Even with my 200%+ MF set I rarely got anything while doing events, and that was before this so called nerf. 200% added onto 1% is only a 3% chance in total after all and RNG is RNG.
As Griffy said, the cultural armor is there for looks. It’s not the best gear, not exotic or legendary. If you want to represent your race then you save up for it. Just because you can’t get a full set of T3 in a months time, well several people can already, doesn’t mean it’s too expensive or hard to get. The time investment in getting the full set is still NOTHING compared to getting endgame sets in GW1. If you don’t like the look or think it’s to expensive to warrent the cost/time, then go after domething else. There are dozens of different skins for you to go after.
I’ve never heard of this, nor seen it happen while playing. Could you perhaps post a link to a video? And I don’t want to see a beta video, if it’s happening now then I’d like to see a video of it happening recently. Until then I kinda have to go with it’s not happening.
Or… you know… save up for it over a period of time. But no, the game has been out almost a month so by golly ANet should just give it to everyone!
The price is there to keep it as a unique skin that not everyone is going to be carrying around. If you’re dedicated and really want that look then save up. Unless you’re really, really, really bad with saving gold or making any then you should have it within a month or two. Or, you can be stupid and buy several hundred dollars of gems to sell and get it asap, your choice.
While it’s not the same thing the #4 Dagger Ability, can’t remember the name right now, is great for making a lot of jumps. Sadly you can’t end it on demand so you best make sure there is a lot of space for you to come to a stop or a wall to halt your movements on. I love that ability!
The torch that lights up areas is not an actual weapon that can be bought. There are temp items that you can pick up that are torches that come with the glow effect. I can’t remember which class uses torches, Guardian maybe, but those do not give off the glow effect that lights up dark areas. If you are looking for a staff that has fire, but doesn’t illuminate, there is one from one of the dungeon vendors, I just can’t remember the name.
Wow, someone brought up the legendary weapons and how they aren’t heads ahead of exotics. Kudos. They are suppose to take a long time to get because they are Legen… wait for it… dary! What the hell were you expecting? A WoW version of legendaries that give you the ability to completely own anyone that doesn’t have one? I mean check the stat differences from Masterwork to Exotic. It’s hardly any difference. Lengendary weapons are suppose to be rare, they are meant for people who are willing to put the time and dedication in to crafting one. They are NOT meant for the people who come to the forums and complain about how long it takes to acquire them.
If they are all similiar to the bow then they are worth the investment. Shooting rainbows from your legendary bow is something no one else is going to be able to do unless they put the time in to justify the reward. The people who expect a huge stat boost are playing the wrong game.
Again, the dungeons weren’t put in this game to be the sole thing you do to make money/exp. They were put there to be challenging content for a group of people and would reward you with unique skins that cannot be gotten any other way. If you run with a pug then it’s a painful experience, but ANet said before hand it was meant to be done with a coordinated group of players. You do them enough times and you get your armor skins and move on or you choose not to do them and go after skins from somewhere else.
In the end people were running dungeons for the very reason ANet was against, farming/leveling, so why act surprised when they make changes to go along with the philosophy they set forth years before the game was released?
I had a full travelers set with 5 pirate runes and 1 travelers, since the 6 piece pirate wasn’t worth it and the 1 piece travelers was a an extra 10%, plus the omnomberry 30% food, 10% from guild, opal gems (3% not 4% due to price difference, travelers weapon, 1 with superior lucky. All in all I was at over 200% MF while I did my 2 hour long gathering binge. I decided it wasn’t worth it as a) you have very low survivability when geared like that so you spend a LOT of time repairing and porting back to waypoints and b) I didn’t really notice any change in the amount of items I was getting. I did this for a few days mind you, not just 2 hours. I feel Knights armor with Soldiers runes works far, far better as I don’t spend as much on repairs/revives.
It’s during the week. Supply goes up and demand down when fewer people are on. Wait until this weekend and everything will go back up. I go out and farm every 5 hours and save it up all week as I can make almost double what I would have.
I’m almost positive that they said they didn’t want dungeons to be the end all be all thing people did before they released the game. There are plenty of other things to do in this game for both exp and gold.
You poor thing. So much of what you said is wrong. Let me tell you why.
1) Nobody rushed to 80, nobody needed to. Leveling is incredibly easy in GW2, and anyone that has played since the head start or the first week and is not yet at level 80 is playing so badly that they probably got their parents to install the game for them. You get XP for picking stuff up, pressing F a bunch of a times around a yellow heart, killing things, crafting, exploring, running through an orange circle on your minimap while a dynamic event happens, and doing the story. So again, no one has rushed. I also saw this same kind of whining on the SW:TOR forums when everyone complained about the state of the game, people like you told them to go back to WoW and that it’s their fault somehow.
2) According to GW2’s manifesto, GW2 will have no grinding. According to the lead content designer Colin, he said nobody likes grind, nobody finds it fun. Having a set of dungeon gear should therefore not be grind. Do you follow so far? Y/N. Someone wanting a cosmetic set of gear should not be attacked by labeling him a grinder.
3) He, nor anyone else said that he wanted everything “NOW”. Never.
4) I’ve put in quite a few hours. Mostly to see the game’s content, and to compete with the people that ArenaNet let get away with exploiting the economy below their arbitrary forgiveness level. I am nowhere near the level of having the amount of tokens required for any of these dungeon sets, or a legendary weapon. In fact, I have 5 AC tokens, and 7 Arah tokens. I simply cannot find groups to do dungeons with on anywhere near the frequency required to get these items.
So it seems to me that (i) you have not experienced as much of the game as the people you are blaming for the shortcomings of GW2, and (ii) you seem to grossly misunderstand the amount of grind required for these items, contrary to the game’s manifesto.
1. I’m fairly certain the only way to get to 80 in 3 days is to rush through. There is absolutely no possible way you can experience all the content in all of the maps you come across during the leveling process in 3 days. None, zip, nadda. He rushed because he wanted to get to endgame so he can be leet and farm all those exotics. Edit: I never once said go back to WoW. I actually used WoW as an example of how long getting Max Stat End Game gear can actually take, and it is far, far, far longer than GW2.
2. According to the designer there would be no grind while leveling. There is none unless you chose to do it yourself. They said there would be no grind in getting max statted gear. Again, there is none unless you chose to go about it that way. You can easily get a full set of exotic gear the second you hit 80 if you played smart and didn’t spend your money on everything. Just because you weren’t handed every piece of every dungeon set/legendary the second you hit 80 doesn’t mean getting a full set of max stat gear isn’t easy to get.
3. He didn’t have to say it. He’s been playing for less than a month and is already complaining because he doesn’t have everything he wants. It’s the exact same thing with different words.
4. Join a guild? I don’t really know what to tell you there. It’s easy to get a quick speed run group together. If you haven’t managed to then it’s not ANet’s fault. I just checked the chat on my server and there are at least 5 people trying to get groups together. I prefer to use guild runs myself but, as I said earlier, it’s not ANet’s fault that you haven’t done runs as often as you wanted.
SO it seems I haven’t misunderstood anything about anything. I played GW1. The amount of time it takes to get a full dungeon set is NOTHING compared to how long it took to get a full set of endgame gear there. I still, to this day, don’t have all the sets completed for GW1 and I started when Factions was released.
I like to think long-term. I have long-term goals for what I want to accomplish in-game. Sort of a nebulous ever-changing miasma of adventure and kitten-kickery. (I just made up a new word!) It is important to look good and feel good. It is real real nice to have 1000 gold (I can only guess). I plan on getting to that point, but I also plan on that taking a long time. If those goals were able to be accomplished in weeks or days I wouldn’t count them in my long-term goals list. I’d be angry in fact because my list just got shorter.
Going on most of the comments from people in the “pro-grinding” camp; I can only take home the fact that some people want their time to be worth more than mine. What if I told you those goals are now impossible without buying Gems? what will you do?
I’d tell you you’re talking kittenkittens… And suggest you actually try to demonstrate this with data before making absurd assertions that clearly aren’t true.
Way ahead of you
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/How-GW2-IS-becoming-a-Grind-MY-thoughts/page/3#post155137You could try making the 50 gold by playing the game. Jon stated earlier today that dungeons are designed to be one of the best ways to make money. You get 13 silver for completing a dungeon now minus whatever you lose on repairs. That’s 385 dungeon runs to get your exotic gear. Does that sound reasonable to you?
With 2 hours of farming ore/lumber I made just over 10 gold. Now, that came from ore/wood/gems/coral and of course mob drops. I then proceeded to buy low/sell high for some of the items I’ve noticed on the TC for another 2 gold. So in just over 2 hours I made 12 gold. Yeah, ANet is really forcing me to use the Gem Store to get my gold. Ohhh, again, you just want to do 1 of 100 things to get your gold then get mad when you can’t do it anymore. By golly batman, you’re right! They are forcing YOU to use the Gem Store, sadly I’m not you so I don’t have to do that.
OK so its been like what 3 week?
You are telling us that you are upset because you can not have the best of the best items in 3 weeks?
In an MMO?
Seriously?
I’m lvl 61 right now, and I am enjoying the game to it’s full extent! And I will be playing this game for a long time to come.
The problem that you have is that you just simply burned out on the game! You most likely played for 8+ hours a day, every day and now that you are bored of it, so you cry and cry.
Sorry dude, but it’s not our problem that you think you are entitled to everything right away, and that you think you should be able to beat the game within the first month!
Besides, I have a feeling that you are the type of person that goes to the forums of every new game that you buys to kitten about something!
And I can tell that if you did get your wish, and you actually would acquire the best items in the game, you would be here right now complaining and crying about how short the game is and how you have nothing to do because you beat it all.
Call back when you’re level 80 and you’re farming the same events in Orr over and over again to get your armor. Tell me how much fun you’ll be having then.
I’ve been 80 for the past several days, going on a week, and I’m having fun still. Then again I’m somewhat intelligent and don’t just do 1 thing to make my money. I farm mats, run events, run dungeons, play the TC, and many other things. It’s not anyone’s fault but your own that you do 1 thing and 1 thing only.
Ok, just going to comment on a few things I’ve read so far.
1: You rushed to 80, admitted you got there in 3 days, then decided to “grind” dungeons to get the sets. That’s your fault. As an earlier poster said you want everything NOW. Get over yourself. In 1 MONTH a person that plays an ungodly amount of time, such as yourself, will have all of the dungeon armors they are after. Just because you don’t have everything the second you hit 80 you decided to say the grind is too much for you. Just how long do you grind for a complete set in other games? Let’s take WoW for example. You could do the same instance month after month after month and not get the items you are after. Same for just about any other MMO. I see people in trade advertising for speed clears of explorer mode farms. They say they do it in 10-15 minutes. I’ve read it takes about 50 runs to get a full set of gear, could be more or less. Let’s say it does take 50 runs, at 15 minutes that’s 4 an hour or roughly 13 hours. That’s NOT a lot of time. Do some take longer, I’d assume so as this is a MMORPG not a Single Player game. You don’t pay a sub fee so you can keep coming back and doing them whenever you please.
2. ANet has not once said there wouldn’t be a gear grind in the game. You find me a link and I’ll admit I was wrong. The only mention of no grind was in leveling and that part was 100% true. I completed every map I came across to 100% then moved to the next. If you consider killing X number of mobs to be a grind then you should stop playing any game that has leveling as that’s all you do in every one of them, even CoD. Just because you hit 80 and weren’t automatically decked out in exotics doesn’t mean the gear isn’t easy to acquire.
3. Just how are they promoting the Gem Store? There’s not a single thing in there that helps you out in any way, other then the boosters and my bank is full of those from completing maps and dailies. I farm nodes and sell everything on the TC. I’ve not spent a dime, over the purchase price of the game, on Gems yet I’ve been able to buy around 2k with the gold I’ve earned in game. I could easily buy more if I actually needed anything off of there, but I don’t.
4. There isn’t anything wrong with buying things with Karma and selling them for gold unless said Karma item is obviously bugged and showing a price several times lower than any other item. If 99% of items are showing XXXXX Karma price and another is listed for XX Karma then it should be fairly obvious to EVERYONE that something is wrong. If you then proceed to buy thousands upon thousands of the obviously mispriced item then don’t get mad when you get a temp ban, should have stuck with the perma ban but hey, not my game.
I would go on but it’s pointless.
As others have mentioned it doesn’t matter if they remove free server transfers as we all know they are going to allow Guesting which is the same exact thing, minus WvWvW access. There are roughly 12 nodes of Ori Ore and they have 5-6 hour respawn times. Transfering servers/guesting/overflow server hopping are all the same thing. When the game first started I stayed in the Overflow server and mined all the copper nodes there were then would finally transfer to my home server and do the same thing. If the game forces you into an overflow server and then let’s you go back to the home server while mining nodes in both then guesting/transfering servers cannot be against the rules as it is the exact same idea.
Just log out to the character select screen then back in. Takes a few seconds but the error goes away, although it may come back quicker the next time, but again relogging works great.
For some reason it’s not giving me the option of quoting but this is for DrunkBatman. All video games, be it a MMO or any other genre, are nothing but things to waste your time with. Unless you are one of the few people who actually get paid to play video games, guess gold sellers fall into this category oddly, you accomplish absolutely nothing by playing with pixels.
I just wish the mobs there dropped a little extra $$$ so I could actually get some decent upgrades. The karma items, at least for light, are all Pre/Vit/Tough that I can find. Yeah, cause I want to crit a lot but not do any damage.
I hate trying to farm mats in those zones just because of how close the mobs are. They are either ranged or have pull abilities to ensure I can’t actually get away. And is it just me or does it seem like the agro radius and reset range is a hell of a lot closer/longer than any of the other zones?
There needs to be a number 5 ability for when you’re in rally mode. The ability needs to be “Give Up”. There are several times when I know I cannot do anything to get that rally but I have to wait over and over and over again for the mobs to finally kill me off before I can actually respawn. Seriously, give us a #5 ability that auto kills us so we can respawn instead of waiting.
Sometimes it takes the mobs 10-20 seconds to kill me but I, as an Elementalist, can’t actually do anything to finish them off in that time but it refuses to let me port to a waypoint. Just give me a suicide button so I can get it over with and get on with my merry way.
PBAoE is Point Blank Area of Effect or AoE that happens right where you are.
So yeah, this is one of those posts. Was messing around doing some sPvP this morning, trying to get my combos down and all that jazz and this is what seems to happen everytime:
Me – Ring of Fire > Phoenix > Dragon’s Tooth > Fire Grab > Dodge (for the Evasive Arcana but only if I need to dodge) > swap to Earth > Dust Devil > Earthquake > Churning Earth
That gets the horrible Thief down to 60% hp, no dodging, then he kills me with a few Heartseekers. Gotta love it.
And now that that is complete, back to dying.
First things first, your build and the way you play that build mean everything in this game. If you are just running in and blowing all your cool downs there is a good chance that you are not looking at where/how you are casting them and just running through all the buttons. As an elementalest it is easy to get into a state of mind where you think you have to press all these buttons in the correct order to do the most amount of damage. This leads to many people that I see prefiring the spell combo without lining up their target or taking into consideration their opponent or their options. As an elementalist this is huge. As a class we are not meant to just charge in and DPS like madmen like other classes can. We are meant to be the brains of the battle field.
I see so many people on the forums saying “We can’t 1v1 x class and we are trash” or “we have to use 10 buttons when x skill only uses 3.” People need to understand that this is not a game based on 1v1. There is no dueling in this game. If you want to pvp like that then you can roll a class that is good at lurking about and pick one guy out to kill and then lurk some more. An elementalist in most cases, not all, should be played with a wingman. When you have someone to work with you become a powerhouse. Elementalists have so many options to shape and mold the meta of a battle with the use of their different fields, AOE, CC’s and buffs. If you want to play just sPVP and run into the fray and get some kills that is fine. You can probably find a great D/D build to get you where you want to be. But if you want to play in skilled PvP and say that the elementalist is weak I would have to argue. Perhaps it’s the fact that the game has only been out for 2 weeks and you just so happened to pick the class with the highest skill ceiling. I encourage you to stick with it and find something that works for you. I’m running a S/D build that focuses on roaming and I can also play bunker if I need to by switching our my D to F or just using a staff. I hope that you stick with it and find a build that suits your play style.
I see, so what you’re saying is Elementalists are the one class that can’t be used in a 1 on 1 basis and should only be played with another person. Great!
And running through 8+ abilities, using combo fields, against someone that refuses to dodge a single attack once and only uses 1 ability in return is completely fair. Using the rotation I mentioned earlier takes at least 10 seconds to pull off and puts just about ever major damaging ability I have on CD but that is only enough to knock off ~40% of a class that uses 1 ability 90% of the time.
I could care less if I can win every 1v1 but when I have to go through every freaking ability I have, with each element, in order to get a person to 50% then something is wrong. I don’t mind losing a fight when I can look at the damage list and see 10 abilities being uses, but when all you see is 1 freaking thing then it’s stupid and needs work.
I was running a 20/0/20/0/30 build, again just trying it out. The match I was in really only had 3v3. I believe it was a thief, ranger, and mesmer. I’ve given up trying to fight mesmers as I can never tell which is the one I’m suppose to actually be fighting as it seems there’s nothing but clones and phantoms then the mesmer himself goes invisible so I figured screw that. lol.
Anyway, even if he was specced for def I shouldn’t have died to heartseekers alone, ok there might have been other things going off but heartseeker did 16k damage min most of the times. I forgot all about having arcane wave in my rotation as well, I usually use that as well while still in fire to get more might stacks.
Oh, I went with tough/vit this time around as well. Think I’m at 3k tough and around 18k hp. Not logged in at the moment but I believe my power was around 2.3k and with the build I had I manage to get around 5 stacks of might, minimum, but even with that I die to heartseekers alone even when the opponent refuses to dodge anything.
Jewelry is listed under trinkets. Not sure about back pieces as I haven’t found anything besides the one you got as a reward for your story quest during the low 20’s. Seriously, if anyone knows where back slots are let me know asap!
Yeah, I’m sure it’s just the server but I’m too OCD. I can’t leave this zone until I have 100% completion. lol
I’m fairly certain it’s lag, not fps as it shows a constant 50 for me. It goes in spurts of 1-3 second delays where my character will show he’s charging his attack and a few seconds later all of the attacks land at once. I’ll go ahead and report it never the less.
I am lagging horribly in this map, and according to the chat I’m not the only one either. I can go to any other map and run smooth as a baby’s bottom but no, not in Mount Maelstrom. Is there anyone else experiencing this? I currently am playing on Northern Shiverpeaks.
I’m just curious, does anyone actually use any of the items you get that change your abilities for some of the events? I find they generally suck and make the event take 5x longer so I just drop them and go about killing whatever it is with my regular set of abilities. The only time I have used the event item fully was when I was burning corrupted plants as the flame thrower did the trick nicely.
Just wanted to check and see if anyone else actually used them or not.
I believe so. There should be a level on the item, thin its bottom left corner. aAs long as that is at least 40 then you can pop in the Major Sigils, Runes, and Gems. The next up is level 60 minimum. Doesnt matter if you are level 50 if the item itself isnt at least level 40 then it wont go in. :-o
The aitem you are applying it too must be at least level 40 as well. I made that msistake as well.
well if your following the zerg in sPVP your doing it wrong. Most of the time im capturing free nodes while everybody else is zerging somewhere else on the map. Easy win …
Exactly what I do. I tend to get more glory at the end of the match than anyone else due to doing that as well and you will always have people on the other side who want to do the same thing so you get some excellent 1v1 fights going while the group zerge is somewhere else.
I feel for you not yet receiving your items but I really am curious why you bought them? I’ve got over 30 lesser and 5 greater in my bank from completing maps. Not dissing you by any means, just curious.
Seems most of the “emptyish” games are filled with people doing it. I must have come across at least 5 games of one side wearing no armor just standing around doing nothing while the other side capped everything then killed them. Was hoping for some decent smaller scale matches but I gave up on that.
I care because I joined a match for PvP. If neither side is actually participating and is instead farming glory ranks then I believe they should be reported.
It’s completely fine to team up in W3 as that’s the main reason behind having 3 sides fighting, to ensure even and fun matches. What they are doing in sPvP is equivalent of Red winning because Blue/Green just stood at the home base and did nothing. Helping each other out to overtake Red is good, having all of both servers stay back and do absolutely nothing to give Red easy wins is not.
I report them, but not sure what to classify it under.
Ok, I’ve joined a few games in the Mists with one side at 0 points and the other at… well the rest. I go to the area where I see the rest of my team at and low and behold, they are just standing around while the other team gets the points. Neither side is fighting one another. Is that actually within the rules to do? Seems to me it’s cheating to farm Glory.
You guys must not have played GW1 if you think what’s needed here is insane farming.
The only thing I think Ele’s need help with is water combat. I don’t have any real damaging abilities, which means fights take way to long, and few CC abilities. Sure, the few CC’s I had were decent when when I was level lower level but now it doesn’t seem like I come across many fights where less than 5 mobs agro all at once. Top that off with getting “Immune” message until I get to a certain angle while they continue to pound on me.
On the plus side I do love how the Earth Attunement plays with Scepter/Dagger. Churning Earth on a large pack then just watch the bleeds tick away. I have the power/precision/condition armor along with the power/condition/vitality jewelery. Sitting at 45% crit chance and am 10/10/30/0/0 spec. With the 30% chance to burn on crit, 20% damage below 25% hp, 5% damage to bleeding targets, 20% bleed duration, and 20% shorter cd for earth.
I don’t think it’s possible to have 68% movement speed. I haven’t come across any quickness buff yet that actually stacks, minus maybe the quick movement speed buff you can get in cities.
When you get hit and are actually in combat your movement speed is slown way down until you get out. The passive movement speed buffs you can get, like One with Air and Signet of Air do not stack with each other or other movement speed buffs. Only the highest is chosen. If you are attuned to Air and use Glyph of Restoration and Windborne Speed (whatever the #4 staff spell is) they do not increase your speed by 66%, the duration of Quickness is combined. Again, the movement speeds are not combined but the highest you have is picked and/or durations are extended.
Example: One with Air (fully upped) 25% + Windborne Dagget 15% + Signet of Air 10% + Windborne Speed 33% 10s duration + Glyph of Restoration 33% 10s duration = 33% with 20s duration.
That’s the normal amount. I am level 51, not in the level 50 zone atm, but I get around 1.7s per heart. Eventually I’m going to find a decent way to make some money.
As the title says, I’m looking to join a guild on Northern Shiverpeaks. Should be able to do some WvWvW after I get my computer upgrades tomorrow but would like to also have some people to run with in the Dungeons. Currently I have a level 50 Ele, Kyosei.
