No its not, I love the grind for the gold. It gives me a sense of character progression.
This statement makes absolutely no sense. Grinding money doesnt give anyone any sense of character progression.
Psst. like sound travels faster through water than it does air, sarcasm doesn’t travel through the internet very well
I say if you are going to spend that amount of gold on a item and the amount of farming you would have to put in in game farming the gold it should match the stats of the current top gear Ascended cuz otherwise why buy it there is better out there
Because the skins frequently kick kitten If you’re willing to throw down 120g on some armour then you’re probably not going to mind throwing down another 15g on top of the line exotics to transmute it into.
I’ve never heard anyone say “Man I’d love to buy that T3 armour, if only it’s stats didn’t suck”
That might work for some but I m in to Vertical progression now and well lets face it Ascended gear will be the way to go with that so they would have to decrease their price to maybe a gold or two for me even to consider Cosmetic value of it
It doesn’t matter if they release a billion tiers as the Cultural set, namely t3, is meant to be purely cosmetic. You are representing your ulture by wearing it. No other race can attain the armor you’re wearing once you get the set, and if you’re the champions gender you get to look just like them. That’s the whole 0loint in the armor. If you don’t like it then go after something else but don’t QQ about the costs to look like the champion of your race.
So…. Where is all the complaining about wvwvw not being fair for upscaled players fighting against decked out 80s? You won’t notice any real change in damage from going from exotic to ascended, he’ll you hardly notice anything from Masterwork to Exotic, but you notice a hell of a lot of difference from upscaled lowbie to geared 80. People need to stop the crying about ascended gear already. A new tier isn’t going to make anything easy mode nor is it going to make anyone god mode. It will make things slightly, and I do mean slightly, easier but unless you’re going from white/fine gear to ascended you’re probably not going to notice any change at all, much less those going from exotic to ascended.
With the exception of three pieces of exotic gear all of my gear is Masterwork quality. I did just fine against people in full exotic gear before and I will do just fine against people in ascended gear now. The extra damage they will gain from a full set is not going to make any noticible difference so kitten about it already. You realize ups called people can participate against decked out 80s now, and right? Where’s the QQ for the huge disadvantages they have? WvW requires more teamwork than anything else. One person manning an arrow cart can make or break a seige far more than that extra 5% damage you will gain from upgrading from exotics to ascended over the next several months.
Edit: phone auto correct made typos but I don’t feel like changing them.

Thanks much. I forgot it was 2 my time when it happened… All I have to say is I get the wrong ideas from that things mouth. Need to call my GF right quick.
All ascended gear makes me worry about the future of Guild Wars 2, the items what has been linked in map chat stat wise have all been massively superior to exotic gear, meaning we could be witnessing the end of casual guild wars 2 as we know it.
The reasons; exotic gear right now is somewhat easy to acquire, thus keeping playing field pretty much even especially in W3 – if ascended gear will be like other MMos where only the top 5% of players will likely acquire it, then W3 balance could alter very dramatically and could even start a mass exodus of casual players, leaving servers with even more problems.
*Also, Legendary items are hard to get for the average player. At the moment, most if not all the people currently carrying around Legendary weapons have all had alot of help and/or exploited/botted/credit card the way to them. Trust me, they are not that easy to get.
I’m fairly certain when you link an item it doesn’t have the upgrade slot slotted. The increase in stats per item is 8% which is far less than the increase you get from going from Rare to Exotic. Since you can easily be competitive in WvW using Masterwork quality gear there is really no need to worry about anything. Fully decked out will give you a 5% bonus in overall effectiveness, and and that is really pushing it. If that extremely small increase in stats leads to you getting owned then you’re playing very badly.
Not to mention they will be adding in crafting recipes. I already had a few new recipes in my tab, I just didn’t craft them.
I believe they said there’s something wrong with Zhaitan and he’s currently bugged. Not sure when they will have it fixed though but he’s not suppose to just stand there and let you shoot him for 10 minutes.
Please note this is theory crafted and based off the assumption that all stats will go up by 8%… it also uses the largest possible values available. If I’ve made a mistake somewhere in my calculations please do let me know.
You forgot something : it’s highly likely that the ascended weapons will have more base damage and that the armor more armor too. It’s not only a “power” stat increase you see.
We got a small DPS boost and a small total armor boost in practice.
Again, the overall increase is going to be less than what it is going from Rare Quality to Exotic. If you compare the Rare to Exotic to Ascended quality of the items they listed you can then use those findings to increase every other slot. If it’s ~8% for Traveler’s Exotic to Ascended rings then it’s going to be ~8% from Exotic Berserker’s 2h to Ascended Berserker’s 2H.
Overall, with everything fully upgraded, which is going to take quite a while to do as they aren’t releasing everything with 1 patch, you’re going to get a really, really small boost in overall effectiveness.
I love how people think.
People complain about Bots > ANet bans bots > prices of items on the TP increase in price > Players assume price increase is due to nerfed drop rate.
No, the reason the TP prices increased so much for items is because the bots are no longer there to unload their goods. It’s that simple. If you want really low prices then Bots are a good thing as they undercut, undercut, undercut, and then undercut some more. If you want the bots gone then expect the prices of items to go up, especially considering the TP is bound to all servers.
I don’t consider an across the board increase of 8% as trivial. What do others think the cutoff is between significant vs insignificant? 1%, 2%?
8% increase in stats doesn’t mean you’re 8% stronger. Stats to Effectiveness is NOT a 1:1 ratio as has been pointed out numerous times. The overall increase is not going to even be on par to Rare to Exotic upgrades and considering you can do everything in the game, including the new dungeon, with Masterwork quality gear, if not Fine, then there isn’t anything to worry about.
The only thing the new equipment is better for is the new dungeon and that is because it has the Agony Resist. The dungeon itself is infinite, increasing in difficulty every 5 to 10 rooms (I forget which). You can easily complete the first level with no need of Agony resist, possibly higher ones than that if you’re in a good group.
The only people that could possibly have any legitimate grounds for complaints would be the WvW community but since people, such as myself, can compete with Full Exotic geared players using nothing but Masterwork, possibly Fine though I never tried, then there’s no real reason to complain there because GW2 isn’t gear based but skill based. Hell, most people don’t even use food buffs but the ones that do don’t ROFLStomp the people that aren’t and those give roughly the same stats as upgrading Exotic to Ascended.
Now, if the gear tiers were like they are in games like WoW where every new tier allows you to completely stomp people in the ground that are wearing anything but that tier as well, then I could see a point, but adding 1-5% overall damage is not worth going crazy about.
You see, that’s where the problem most people are imagining. 8% more power isn’t going to make you do 8% more damage. I you increase your go from rare to Exotic you will notice a very minor increase in overall effectiveness.
I said that 8% more power from gear, along with a theorical 8% more damage range on weapon would give you in total, counting a fully traited power stat and base stats an attack increase of 5%
The attack I mean is the stat shown in your Hero panel. The damage you do is directly proportional to that stat. If you get 5% more attack, you are doing 5% more damage on all your attacks plain and simple (not counting crits obviously)
And that’s only after fully upgrading every slot from exotic to ascended. So for every 1000 damage you do in Exotic you now do 1050. Man… That’s way over the top! And I am almost positive the conversion isn’t a direct 1:1 ratio. I’m sure theory craters have already proven that point but if you want to yourself go to the mist and get one of the basic pvp weapons and compare that to the actual weapons. It’s not going to be what you think it is.
Ah, yeah base stats :o Yes I know the 8% more isn’t from the stats on the Hero page but from adding all values by hand.
In a Berserk gear set, you get around 3100 attack. 300 of those from traits, 900 from base stats, leaving 1900 from gear power and weapon average damage. 8% more of that is 150 more attack which is in the end a 5% increase on raw damage you inflict. Add in the increase in crit chance and crit damage and I stand my ground when I say you can very well expect an ascended berserk player to outdamage an exotic berserk player by between 10% and 20% :p
Exactly. And 8% is only for the secondary attributes since the ring we know is a MF ring, as I already said. For a full ascended set with power as a primary attribute, the difference will be higher, which will also increase the overall (including traits and base stats) difference.
If you want to know what the overall increase in stats are for all the stat combos then go compare Rare to Exotics. The increase is a much smaller percent for Exotic to Ascended as you can already compare Traveler’s gear for the three tiers. It’s roughly a 10-15% increase from rare to exotic, depending on if you want to upgrade the upgrade slot to Exotic or not. Then exotic to ascended is an 8%. It will be the same, roughly, for all stat combos.
yes thats true
but these ppl spreading wrong info that your character will be 8%-46% stronger in ascended gear than exoticsTechnically, let’s assume (yes assume, bear with me) that you get 8% more stats on the stuff. Some glass canon thief upgrades his berserker gear to ascended berserker.
8% more power means more damage per it
8% more precision means more hits will crit
and more crit damage means those crits hurt moreSooo, it’s perfectly possible that 8% more on three stats means in the end that you’ll receive 20% more damage on average from this player
You see, that’s where the problem most people are imagining. 8% more power isn’t going to make you do 8% more damage. I you increase your go from rare to Exotic you will notice a very minor increase in overall effectiveness.
I am wearing Masterwork Knight’s armor because it is cheap. I love the gear with tough/vit/power and you can’t craft that. I can easily make a full set of exotic Knight’s armor but the overall boost in stats does next to nothing in the long run. I can easily compete with people in Exotic gear because the small increase in stats isn’t great enough to make people seem unkillable. In WoW when they upgrade tiers you absolutely have to upgrade to compete because it’s more gear based. Sure, skill helps but in the end the state increase on gear per tier is huge. The same is not true for Guild Wars. It’s a very small increase that amounts to a grand total of 1-2% increase in overall effectiveness. That is not worth complaining about.
Fact: the difference between Masterwork and exotic is FAR greater than the difference between Exotic to Ascended.
Fact: I am wearing Masterwork gear and can beat players in Exotic gear quite easily.,,
The difference in stats is hardly that much and an 8% increase in stats does not make you 8% stronger. When I upgrade my dps gear from Masterwork to Exotic I hardly notice a difference besides a few extra hit points and a barely noticible change in damage.
What is your point?
Exotic is always better than Masterwork. And you just happen to be better some some players.
Bringing ego into a discussion …
The point should have been quite obvious. Skill > gear. Always has and always will, at least in Guild Wars. The slight increase in stats is nothing to cry over because it’s not going to make any noticible difference in the end. It’s basically giving you one, and maybe two, exotic jewels worth of stats total and that isn’t worth all the QQ on the forums.

this thread exists. i would link it but i’m too lazy. anyway it’s a buy order or something so it doesn’t cost them anything to list and no one will buy it.
Actually you have to pay the 3800 gold to post it. You don’t get taxed any for removing it or anything but you have to have that amount on hand and it will take it from you until you remove the order. I imagine the person is just showing off. He could buy most of the precursors and up the prices no problem.
then you’ll get laughed at because with the information we have available (now), ascended armor (when its available) can’t be slotted with runes nor can ascended weapons be slotted with sigils. we don’t know what the infusions will do, but, likely, it’ll simply add a resistance to the new agony mechanic, thus, making ascended gear obsolete for anywhere, but, the new dungeon with the information we have available currently.
note: this is going off what information we currently have. even then, you don’t need agony resistance to do the fractal, only to continue doing the dungeon the further down you go. plus, we don’t even know how its applied. it could be dodge-able/reflectable, etc..
Your wrong, https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear/ show’s that these items actually have more stats then exotic gear, cause they got “permanent” runes/Orbs in them
More like orbs or jewels. There’s no evidence to support runes and sigil bonuses being added to the weapons and Armor. For all anyone knows the ascended items will only have a slight state bonus compared to exotics but since exotics can use runes and sigils it makes them better for everything other than doing dungeons with agony.
And besides, I if you think upgrading 2 slots every few months is somehow a gear treadmill then something is wrong with you. The items will likely be just as easy to obtain as exotics are now, and the post also says there are several new crafting recipes being added in as well to get the gear. This is why they don’t release the information before hand. I the amount of QQ over the unknowable is insane.
The increase from Fine to Masterwork to Rare to Exotic are all higher percentage increases than Exotic to Ascended. Where was all the QQ about that? No where you say? Who’d have thought that.
The reason the Ascended items have higher stats is because they do not have an upgrade slot. Instead the ascended items have the upgrade slot built in and the new slot is only used to counteract the new debuff or help deal more damage to creatures that apply the debuff. That’s why I’m completely fine with this new tier. The 2 percent bonus in stats is completely negligible.
Good god there is a bunch of QQ in this thread. The stats increase is basically equal to a piece of exotic gear with something in it’s upgrade slot. Ascended gear cannot use upgrades which is why it has the increased stats. In many ways exotics are still superior as you can use runes or sigils as they have no upgrade slot. Even a full set is basically like having one extra upgrade slot for one jewel. Considering I pvp in masterwork gear and do just fine against people in exotics I am going to say that you wvw qqers have no room to complain either. The new dungeon, if I read correctly, you goes on forever so they had to do something in order to aid in that. I see no reason anyone should be qqing as there is no reason to do so.
If you want a lot of skills go play an Ele. Some say Engineers. Have the most but they really don’t, technically. You have 5 per element, 20 total, then your utility, heal, elite. If you use your conjured weapons in the elite you have another 20 weapon skills. Frost Bow, Lightning Hammer, Lava Axe, Fiery Greatsword. Sure, they aren’t great but you wantloads of abilities, mostly utility, then go do that. You’ll have 40 damaging skills, and a heal. Bam, problem solved.
@Snow If you think the 3rd party sites are actually selling precursors then go buy one and stop complaining. When your account gets hacked and everything you own ingame is stripped and sold then I don’t want to hear a peep from you. Stop acting like buying things from 3rd party sites is in anyway safe. You see those gold spammers and botters running around? Yeah, they thought those sites were safe too.
There is a chain back towards the start of that platform that leads to another platform with another chain that leads to another. From there you will jump down to the platform below, take about a 50% hit, then there’s one more you’ll jump down to before jumping down to the platform the King is on. Sadly, after my group jumped down he glitched back to the second area again…
50% my kitten There are jumps in there where there is only one possible spot to jump from (and live); and you take more than 50% unless you came prepared with the jump damage reduction trait. And when you land either the Mad king or mobs are waiting on you.
I’m an Elementalist. I don’t have a trait that reduces drop damage. You’re not jumping from/to the right spots.
Having the ability to zoom even further out. Please allow that to happen everywhere else now. ;-)
If you actually jump at the areas you’re suppose to jump at you won’t take more than a 50% hit in HP. That’s not ANet’s fault.
A lot of complaining about the chests in this thread. Did you open the chest and get nothing, or did you get something you didn’t want? I’m fairly certain it’s the got something you didn’t want part. There was no guarantee you would open up a chest with complaining random list of items and get the one thing you were after. Go cry me a river. People complaining about the chests are nothing but cry babies. If you can show me 1 tiny bit of information where ANet said you were guaranteed the item you wanted and I’ll retract my statement.
Thanks for the info Artorous, I’ll keep an eye out for those.
Red, PVE is a type of PVP. I apologize if I was unclear on what I meant.
You can find all, but the pages, from going into the Haunted Doors. Even if you don’t like PvP I would still tell you to try them all out. You can be one of the pumpkin collectors that summon all the skeletons for your team to claim the victory.
Let’s see… Collecting Pages, not PvP. Maze, not PvP. Clocktower, not PvP. There’s 3. There 2 mini games are hella fun and I wouldn’t really consider them to be PvP. I do dislike the one with the conversion gameplay, slightly, but only because the map is so freaking big and I rarely get the chance to find anyone.
It is the One with Air trait from the Air Tree. It’s not a speed hack. I was called out for using it several times while attempting to complete the Tower myself. I believe Thieves also get a similar trait that gives them the same speed buff.
@LFK Only the highest speed passive is picked.
It would go something like this OwA 10 seconds (5%) > Air Attunement/Air Glyph/OwA 20s (10%) > Windborne Speed/OwA 30s (15%) > OwA 40s+ (20/25%)
I’m pretty sad they they only gave a piece of the set and then change up how to get it entirely. At first I thought they added a super challenging hunt for the 6 pieces of Mad King’s armor around his realm. But I guess it turns out you get one freebie (Slippers) & then you get forced to grind labyrinth events for RNG Wars 2 to drop the other parts of the set.
And then they nerf’d that to be one chance per day anyways.
I was attracted to the game because they said there was no stat grind at all. But here I am 2 months in at Lv.80 and can’t afford even the Trait Books, much less weapons or armor above blue rarity because they thought it was a brilliant idea to have you grind exotics with false difficulty (RNG) and fill the game with more gold sinks than Blizzard’s bathrooms.
At least the Halloween Event has been a blast, and you do get some cool skins & a pair of shoes that will never see the rest of its family. Something is better than nothing I guess; Can’t wait to see what Acts 3 & 4 bring.
Really… you’re 2 months in, have an 80 already, and can’t afford the trait book? What do you do? Sit around and talk in LA’s chat? Seriously! If you go out and gather the Orichalcum Nodes once a day, and collect the rest of the Wood/Ore you come across, you can make 3g+ no problem, more than that if you participate in events. It’s not ANet’s fault you don’t want to do anything.
It depends. If the buy order is super low compared to the listed sell price, then I post for the sell price as the people placing buy orders are most likely trying to get the goods at an extremely low price then repost for a profit.
Example:
Sell Price – 5s
Order Price – 50c
I’m going to post it for the sell price.
Sell Price – 5s
Order Price – 4s
I may go with the order price if I’m in a need for cash.
Sell Price – 5s
Order Price – 4.99s
I just go with the instant sell as 1c is almost useless to me.
Really? Then why the hell have I been winning as this stupid little spider… Is jumping into the cauldron the paying to win part?
What about crafting the skin? That’s what I’m asking information for.
That one, on the other hand, is expensive. THe recipes are out and about by now though.
The price of the skin has dropped more than 20 gold for the scythe skin, and that’s just since this morning when I first logged on. It will continue to go down in price as the event progresses, but I bet it’s going to shoot up in price once it ends as you won’t be able to get it anymore.
Just wait a few days and it’ll be less than 10g a pop. And don’t say you can’t make 10g in a few days. Just gathering Candy Corn on the 2 Orr zones while collecting my Orichalcum nodes netted me over 5g this morning.
Exactly my point. If they had the normal agro/leash range I wouldn’t have made the post. At first I thought it was just ranged Risen mobs in general, but after seeing them run past all the rest it’s just the Acolytes that do this. They die fast enough but they run from miles around.
Maybe you were just low on hp? For some annoying reason, if you are at 25% or lower the mobs(regardless of what kind) will chase you to the ends of tyria. Healing up solves the problem.
Personally I find the purifiers to be more annoying.
Nah. I’m rarely ever not at 100% when collecting my nodes. There have been several times where they pass by multiple mobs, ranging in distance, yet none of those get agroed. It’s just these pesky Risen Acolytes.
Again, no other mob, be it in Orr or any other map area, has the agro radius that the Acolytes have. No risen, no champion, nothing agros from the range these mobs do nor do any other mob chase the distance these mobs do. If all the Risen had the same range then I wouldn’t have made the post. The reason I made the post is because 1 of the 20-30 different risen agro/leash with 2 to 3x the radius of everything else. It’s not all the Orr mobs that do this, it is 1. When 1 thing is behaving this differently it is almost entirely unentintional. No other mob in any other zone behaves this way which is why I made the post.
You seem to be acting just like the people that would have been ok with the karma exploit at the start. So what if that 1 item was different from every other item. Obviously it was intended to be that way.
Here’s how I imagine your run went:
No one marked anything to be focused down.
There was no communication done in the least.
People were dodging attacks that didn’t need to be dodged and not dodging the things that actually needed it.
Most, if not all, of the group was in glass cannon spec/gear.
Was your first time through.
Read the link in my sig.
Cultural sets are there for looks and looks alone, which is why they aren’t of exotic quality. If you don’t like the looks then go after something else. You are representing your entire culture with that armor, hell it’s what your culture’s hero is wearing for crying out loud. If you want it, save up for it.
It’s like you’re not even reading anything anyone else posts.
Acolytes appear to have 2-3x the agro radius of every other mob in the game and they tend to follow you for 2-3x the distance. When 99.9% of mobs in the game agro at a certain range and leash after a certain range then the 1 mob that doesn’t is probably improperly coded. That’s the point of this thread. I don’t die to them, nor any other mob (multiple mobs at once maybe) but it is highly annoying trying to gather nodes when 1 mob decides to run around a mountain to get to you and then chase you to the other side of the map afterwards.
Again, I don’t care about how hard mobs hit, I use Knight’s and or any armor with Power/Vit/Tough so it’s easy to survive, or how many conditions they have, I am a support specced Ele so they all get removed in no time. What I care about is the fact that 1 mob tends to be doing something no other mob in the game is doing which means it is probably unintended and not suppose to be happening. I don’t care if you agree/disagree that pulls are annoying or Orr mobs hit hard, that’s not what this thread is about so move along.
@coglin If only Orr wasn’t so densly packed with mobs and we had infinite endurance, but again, this isn’t a thread about pulls it’s about acolytes and their range.
Things sell for as much as players believe they are worth.
I love the “ban the botters/sellers” responses as well as “ANet needs to lower gem costs”.
Here’s how gold sellers thrive:
1. Gold seller spams chat about site.
2. Less than intelligent person goes to site to buy gold.
3. Gold seller then hacks said players account.
You can’t get rid of sellers because there is always going to be someone that wants to take the easy way out. Since sellers/botters do little to no actual work, and the majority of the gold comes from hacked accounts, it doesn’t matter how cheap gems are as the sellers are ALWAYS going to sell for less. If ANet sold 100g for $10, gold sellers would do $5. If ANet does 100g for $1, bots would do it for $.50. Gold sellers ALWAYS make a profit regardless and, short of removing all trading of any kind from the game, they will ALWAYS exist.
I could care less about the conditions, although I hate pulls. It doesn’t matter how they are facing, like I said they seem to be the only mob, ranged or not, that agro from the distance. Applies to both Land and Water. Have yet to come across any other Risen that agro at the distance and chase you the distance they chase. They seem to be the only mob that doesn’t do any form of condition application but I hate being followed half the map when everything else gave up months ago.
Not sure on his reasoning but I rarely, if ever, actually hit anyone with EA so I’d much rather have shorter CD’s, Obsidian Flesh and Magnetic Wave are much better than a little extra damage on a dodge.
They seem to have double, if not triple, the agro radius of every other mob in the game. I can be standing close enough to hit a mob with a Dagger attack, on my Ele, and not have most mobs agro to me but the Acolyte’s seem to run from across the map to cast. It also seems they have a much, much longer leach radius as well as they follow well past the distance any other mob follows.
You can still kill the starter zone bosses, most can be soloed. They give out loot based on your actual level and you should make at least 10 silver for the short period of time it takes to kill them. The only one that causes me any problems is the Fire Ele…. still. Easy money there.
If you’re going for the top 6 you might as well just max them all. Will only cost another 10-15 gold.
