I like and dislike Blind. Next attack should mean all of that attack, not just 1. If something is going to hit me 5x with 1 attack then all of those should miss when Blind is up, not just 1 of the 5 as they are all part of that 1 attack.
I know there are vendors in Rata Sum located next to the Master’s that sell the exact same materials as Masters do. Not sure how it is anywhere else as I tend to stay in RS as I find it has the best layout.
You got a Dusk for 40 rares into MF. You sell it for a good price and then you go ahead and basically throw all that money away ? You got amazingly lucky once, and you tried to get lucky again ? I’m actually proper shocked how stupid that was.
Also guy who got Dusk on his 1st try with 4 rares. Some guys spend 6 weeks and 4594g on that kitten, some get it for 64 silver. <—- that is exactly the reason why legendaries aren’t really legendary, IMO, flopping a Dusk outa forge is the same as insta Twilight.
All I have to say is anyone that is willing to waste over 4.5k gold trying to get it is far from the brightest bulb. That would be enough to buy every precursor 2-3 times, if not more.
The forums would explode, even more, with Nerf X Dungeon or X Dungeon is Too Hard posts if they did this.
No i mean you could still buy stuff from Tp and vendors ofc.
But trading (selling gold) would not be possible.
Gold sellers would just tell you to post 1 specific item, or multiple items, for a large amount of gold on the TC.
@chuiu:
and how many badges that will take?, im not exactly lucky in getting badges in wvw even if i follow a big zerg around
It takes a LOT of badges which is really the only thing I dislike. I believe it’s a minimum of 300 per piece, so 1,800 total. I wouldn’t dislike it so much if the bags just autolooted into my bag but instead I lose a hell of a lot of bags as they just sit there on the ground. When you’re having a fierce battle it’s extremely easy to pass over them.
If you have to continue mining from the node I may have just passed them by after the first 3 ore came about not noticing it was still there.
Leveling a craft really isn’t the problem, I’ve leveled multiple crafts myself. The problem is once you hit cap you aren’t really going to make any money off of that craft. I’m doing it solely for the 10 levels you get per craft, 10 skill points per craft and each costs between 5-10 gold to level, exception being cooking which is only ~1 gold.
I play on NSP and we’ve had the max bonus, or at least 20%, several times yet the only time I get more than 3 ore is when it comes from the rich nodes. Logs I get loads of, food I get loads of, ore I’ve yet to see anything unless my mind has been blocking them out.
Does this bonus work for mining? I occasionally get a few extra logs or harvest a few extra cooking mats but I’ve yet to see any extra ore come up, exception being a Rich Node of course.
I did another 40 batches of 50 weapons and no base weapon
From the exotics I got I put the 10 or so that had a price over 1.5G on the trading post and recycled the rest for more bad exotics because there’s no point in putting up 20 of the same exotic and get undercut instantly and never sell all of them.
Always check the Sigils. I’ve had a lot of exotics that had sigils worth double the going price of the exotic. :-)
I am 0/10 using BL kits since the latest patch. Only a .1% chance of that being bad luck.
And the chance that that statement is 100% true is .1%.
And nothing is stopping anyone from acquiring the legendary then swapping the skin with one you like. I swap things around a lot and even if I had a legendary I loved, I can only stand to look at it for so long.
It’s over 9000!!!
back to all seriousness, I’m pretty sure you’re better off using exotics to start with, rares can result in rares, exotic weapons will always be exotics when you forge them. Or am I the only one thinking this and is there some math behind using rares over exotics?
The reason people use rares is because 4x rares are generally cheaper than 4x exotics. Rares have a roughly .5% chance though whereas exotics are 3.3% per forge. I guess using rares still have a better chance:cost ratio.
As an above poster said already, every time a patch comes out people claims salvage rates are nerfed. Unless you are doing huge amounts of salvages, over a thousand at a time, you have no statistical evidence to back up your claims. RNG is RNG. Sometimes you’re lucky and sometimes you’re not. That’s the way the world works.
Don’t forget that the starting zone bosses also give loot chests that are equal to those given by the dragons. You may be scaled down but the loot rewarded is your actual level. Those alone give you 8 lovely loot boxes to go after and I’m sure there are more out and about.
and no one tries out on pistols and shields!
I only saw one in in the Mystic forge, and almost all other non-specific ones come out as a focus. sooo much focus
What I’d like a dev response is, are the number of skins on a weap equal to other of the kind? Like say there are 100 exotic skins for great sword, can we expect the same number for daggers/pistol/rifle/mace/etc? or do greatswords only get the love?
From what I’ve seen in the PvP locker they are pretty much all equal in terms of numbers. Now, if there are anything other than the Legendaries that don’t appear in the Locker then maybe.
@Lucu, that’s your opinion. Sadly, not everyone shares your opinion.
You can, kinda, do it by tossing in 4 exotic weapons/armor pieces and the resulting piece may have a different rune in it. Not exactly what you’re getting at and I’d advise against doing it. Lol
If there are 20 items and a 15% chance to get one of them that means there is a .75% chance to get the precursor. I think there is closer to 30 exotics so, assuming a 15% chance, the chance to get a precursor is closer to .5% chance.
1 item = 15% odds
2 items = 7.5% odds
3 items = 5% odds
20 items = .75% odds
30 items = .5% odds
Since the item the forge spits out is not removed your odds remain exactly the same every time you toss 4 in. If you do it 1 time you have a .5% chance of getting a precursor, if you do it 1,000 times you have a .5% chance each time, if you do it 1,000,000 times your odds are still going to be .5% each time you hit that forge button.
Now, if you use exotics instead you have a 100% chance each time to get an exotic but since there are 30 different exotics you could possibly roll, may be more as I haven’t checked to see, the chance of getting the one you’re after is 3.3% chance.
I admit, my math may not be perfect but I think I’m pretty close, assuming the chances for rare to exotics are roughly 15% and there are 30 exotics on the loot pool. Has been a long time since I had to do math like that though. Lol.
@Dervy, there are several items that can only be obtained by using the forge, several that can be both forge and drop, and several that are drop only.
Exactly. If you find a recipe no one else has discovered yet, and it’s for something awesome, then buy up all the mats you can that are needed to craft it. Then tell everyone about it and watch the demand for that item go up. The price for ruby orbs was hovering around 12s before the Triforge was posted, after it shot up to 16s. I made quite a bit of gold during that time, would have been more had I known the prices were going to go up before hand and got my hands on the mats.
Ok, with the new info:
1k Swords at 14.5 silver each you spent 145g, if you crafted them yourself.
Subtract a third for forge swords and you’re at less than a hundred gold spent.
The average price for Dusk is almost 4x what you spent total.
Let’s say you had gotten one for that investiment. I guarantee you you would have sold instead of crafting your legendary as you could have made enough to make 3 more.
Now, someone who’s good with probabilities do the math for me as I’m not. Since there are at least 20 different exotics that could come from forging 4 rares and the chance of getting an exotic is between 10 and 20%, go with 15, what are the odds of getting the one you want? There, now ou can guestimate the average number it will take.
And I’m not even going to bring up the 200 exotics you’ve used as that is more than enough gold to purchase one.
Don’t like it? Go design our own game, or you can simply go after another skin. Where did ANet say you have to acquire a legendary?
Let’s do math!
Op claims to have made 1k attempts.
Each attempt takes 4 rares.
Each rare costs roughly 12 silver to craft, give or take.
At 1k attempts that is 4k rares which is almost 500 gold worth of rares.
Since a large sum of those were rares spit out by the forge, probably a third or so, we can subtract that from the total which brings us to 340g worth of rares. Would have been easier to just buy one.
Now, let’s pretend the OP bought them off the TC.
The average cost is around 18s, sometimes jumps above 20 but we will go with 18.
4k at 18s a piece brings us to 640 gold.
Again we subtract a third for rares spit out by the forge so it brings us to roughly 430 gold.
It’s a lot cheaper to buy a precursor at that point.
If he had saved the money, instead of gambling it away, he could have already afforded a precursor.
There are quite a few exotics that have decent sigils that go for more than the exotics themselves, so you could possibly have more than that, and did you craft all those ourself or just buy them off the TC? Much cheaper to craft and if you don’t have weaponsmithing you could easily have maxed it.
Using math it costs roughly 12 to 13 silver to craft a rare.
At 12 silver a pop you would spend 96g crafting 800 swords.
I am sure you didn’t actually have 800 at the start, more like 5 to 600, 800 after forge rares, which means you could have spent as low as 60 gold crafting them all.
Next time craft your own instead of buying already made in bulk.
most exotics you get are barely worth 2-3g. And chance is probably lower than 20%
And there are several that are worth more than 10 and several of the exotics have sigils that are worth more than the exotic. That’s why I used a 5g average. With the number of attempts claimed you would make more than enough to just buy one.
I’ve been curious as to if there are unique skins that can only be obtained via the forge. Not sure if they can be crafted, like the weapons, but would be cool if they could.
Going with the title I’m going to assume 1000 tries means you used 4000 rares. At an average of 17.5k per rare, you spent 700 gold on rares which means you could have bought 2 precursors.
Now let’s say you have a 20% chance to get an exotic per attempt. At 1k attempts that averages 200 exotics. Exotics range in price from 2 to 10+ gold each, so I’m going to go with 5g per. That means you could have made roughly 1k gold off of selling the exotics which would net you 3 of the most expensive precursors, almost.
If 1k attempts means 1k rares, or 250 forges, then that means you spent under 200 gold, probably closer to 100 if you crafted them. Again, assuming a 20% chance at an exotic at roughly 5g a pop, you could have made roughly 250g, again you’re coming out ahead and you could have continued to make more.
Instead, you kept wasting money instead of just saving and flat out buying for less so kudos for being a great economist.
I have personally thrown in 736 rare greatswords now, about 50 rare shortbows and about 40 rare swords, every single exotic which i got from it was then thrown back into the forge……. these numbers are only what i bought off the tp so they dont include the rares i got from each attempt…. s@#t sucks… lol
I’m just curious. Did you check to see how much those exotics went for on the TC? A lot of the ones I have found go for 5-10 gold, sometimes more. Let’s say 10% of those crafts came out as exotics. Some may be worth a couple gold, some may be worth a bit more by salvaging for the sigil, some may be worth a LOT of gold. Let’s say you got 80. Had you sold all 80 exotics I bet you could have afforded at least 1 precursor off the TC, if not more than that.
A 20% named exotic chance could mean named exotics are a higher tier, but couldn’t it also simply mean that 20% of all possible level 80 exotics are named?
I’m fairly certain it’s a ~20% chance (if even that) at a higher tier of anything in that category. Say you use 4 rare daggers, there is a 20% chance it can be an exotic but the exotics include anything from Spark to a Knights Orichalcum Dagger and everything inbetween. I don’t know how many different exotics there are for daggers but I’m sure the chances of getting the one you’re after are pretty slim. Every exotic is on that possible loot table, minus ones that can’t be crafted, so when you look at it from that point of view it’s really not that hard to imagine getting a precursor is even harder. Some may even have lower chances than others. I’m starting to think that some people are under the impression that precurors are the only thing that should be on that table when there are actually dozens upon dozens of items that could be created.
Oh look, it’s another cool looking GREATSWORD….
It’s like you haven’t even looked at all the different Staves, Daggers, Sheilds, Axes, Hammers, or any other weapon. Every weapon type has loads of awesome skins to chose from.
Like the majority of us if you’re a necro you’ll probably go for Deathwish or Final Rest. Though these staves look better than the rest, they are by far not as awesome as some legendaries. Greatsword chars have it made, Twilight, Sunrise, Eternity, Foe’sfire essence, volcanus, ascalon blue swords, etc.
We have rainbows.
Just because an item is legendary doesn’t actually mean everyone is going to love it. There are dozens, if not hundreds, of unique skins. If you don’t like one then go after another. Not even close to all of them have been discovered as of yet.
Has been a while since I last checked it. Can’t remember where I have seen the pirate gear, unless it was on the Gem Store, and that would probably not be the gear he was after.
To hit 400 you will need to at least get a few of the rare recipes off the vendor, or just 1 and craft it a few times. You can “discover” things but you still need the recipe to create the item that is used in the discovery window.
Pirate armor, I believe, comes from the karma vendor after you clear Sharkmaw Cave in Lions Arch. It’s been a while since I checked there but I know Pirate Weapons are from that vendor.
If I shoved the cheapest crafted rare i could make into the mystic forge

I used roughly 30 crafts and managed 3 exotics which net me double my gold return so I was happy. Named Exotics can fetch pretty pennies on the TC which a lot of people seem to miss.
I never get anything below blue quality and I normally get at least 1 rare and a medallion. Considering it takes all of 5 minutes tops to get a couple silver, I don’t see your point. Better rewards come from boss chests. Dragons give large chests that give you loot based on your actual level, as do the starting zone bosses like the Fire Ele and Ice Shaman.
I crafted 28 rare daggers. Got 2 named and 1 regular exotic. The first named exotic I salvaged for the bloodlust sigil, the dagger itself was only going for 1.5g on the tc but the sigil was almost triple, the second net me 6g, the third non-named got me another 2. I spent 4g to craft all of those and made over 10. Had I not had to go to work I would have been doing it still. Sure I’m not getting Spark, but I’ve made some decent coin off of the named exotics so I really couldn’t care less.
Gold sellers will ALWAYS sell lower than ANet regardless of how cheap/expensive gems are. They use bots and/or hacked accounts to make all the gold they sell and when you buy from them there is a high chance you are going to lose your account which means our gold and cash are all gone. If ANet sold 100g for $1, gold sellers would sell it even cheaper because that is what they do. Doing Gems to Gold is the only 100% safe way to not have your account hacked.
Gem prices are based on supply/demand. The fewer people that buy them with real money, and sell them for gold, the fewer there are to be purchased in game. If gem prices are going up then that means there are less gems to be purchased.
well crap cause i didnt look at the legendary’s and i chose jeweler and chef for my proffesions
Drop one and master another. You don’t lose any progress. Right now I’m at 400 JC, Tailor, Weaponsmith, and I will mast Chef tomorrow, then Artificer. Eventually I will have everything at 400.
Technically anyone can get the legendary staff in 2 days since legendaries are soulbound on use. There are sooo many people focusing on legendaries and nothing else. How many Deathbringers have you seen? Final Rests? I can go on and on with exotic skins that can only be obtained from random forge outcomes or that only drop from large chests from Dragons, some from the first stater zone bosses (which reward large chests that give loot based on your actual level btw). There are hundreds of rare skins that are likely going to be rarer than legendaries soley based on the fact that a lot of players are like you, Aphix, who onl want the skin that is “legendary” even if that means going with a look you don’t actually like.
Type [&AgGgSwAA] in your game chat. There, now go find that staff for your Necro. Can’t get much more necroy than that.
Don’t forget, the bosses in the starting zones also have large chests and the rewards are based on your level. Start killing the Fire Elemental guys and gals.
ATTENTION: 36,000 Mithril Ore + 18,000 Elder Logs +22,500 Large Fang = 1,500 Level 80 RARE Greatswords........ + Mystic Forge = ABSOLUTELY NOTHING

People are too focused on the Legendaries. There are a LOT of awesome skins out there for you to choose from. Wahoo, they have particle effects… and that’s about all that’s different. Keep spending your obscene amounts of gold and I will go with the unique skins that cost 5g.
@Mok
Go check the cost of the materials needed to craft items then compare that to the minimum selling price. The price of the materials is higher than the cost of the final product. Even if you gather each and every mat needed, you make more selling those mats instead of crafting the item and selling it.
You know what I want? The Deathbringer Staff. I will take that over Bitfrost, sp?, everytime for staffs. Some legendaries do look cool and some don’t. Most people just want them because they are legendary but in reality there are a hell of a lot of awesome skins you can go after. If I had a toon that used a 2 hander the Godskull 2-hander trumps Dawn/Dusk. Legendaries aren’t the only unique skins in the game, they are just the hardest to attain.
And they are soulbound so no selling them on the TC. :-(
Your number 3 example kind of falls on it’s face. Regardless of what you are grinding on, you’re always going to make some coin, unless you’re just horrible and spend every waking second dying and having to spend your earnings repairing. There are very few recipes that make any coin at all now and the game is barely a month old. After another month, 2 if we are lucky, there will not be a single craftable item that actually has any margin for profit. As crafting mats decrease in price, so does the amount players are willing to undercut and they almost always get to the point where the crafted item is worth less than the mats required.
