In GW2 you are a nobody. You DO NOT matter!

Speak for yourself. You may be nobody and not matter. Me…I matter. Just depends on your perspective.

He is right Vayne because in GW2 we are all DPS no team work required.

I am a pinata destroyer
I am an avid voter
I am a mini game connoisseur
I am a jumping puzzle master
I am a pyrotechnician
I am a supporter of false victories and looming threats.

But a hero I am not.

What’s your story?

I’m the guy that stopped the Molten Alliance’s invasion of Shiverpeaks/Ascalon area.
I’m the guy that killed the big frog in a test simulation for Moto.
I’m the guy that helped arrest Canach and stop his insane plan.
I’m the guy that solved the murder of a Lion’s Arch captain.
I’m the guy that stopped a major invasion plot by sky pirates.

I am the hero, whether or not there’s an audience to say so. The rest of the fluff in between is fun stuff to do in my down time from saving everyone….

you are the guy with no job.

Dailies - the bane of modern games

Assyrian.4827

I miss dailies all the time and I certainly don’t feel forced to do them. Sometimes I’ll have 4 out of 5 done from normal game play and don’t bother to do the last one because I don’t feel like playing anymore that day. I don’t feel like missing out on a few laurels is going to destroy my game play. I log out come back in a few days and my characters are still there with all their stuff and I go about my business playing as usual.

Maybe I’m odd but I never feel forced to play a video game. If I start feeling that way at some point I’ll probably reevaluate what I’m doing with my expendable time.

Dailies - the bane of modern games

Assyrian.4827

I’m fine with dailies. Takes me maybe 30 minutes or less to do at least five of the options requested. Heck, I even do most of it and then switch to a younger alt so the alt gets the bonus exp!

While laurels isn’t a requirement, it is nice to be sitting on a pile of them while you decide on what to save up for, haha.

this is not a problem for you but it is a problem for someone like me who only have 1hr to play WvW with his friends and 30 minutes are gone to do dailies.

IMO professions and combat are shallow

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Assyrian.4827

In the transition from GW1 to GW2, they traded complex skill interactions for active combat. In my opinion the active combat is shallow compared to the old system. Faster paced perhaps and easier to attempt balance, but far less depth.

yea and if you look at it what is this “active combat”?

  1. cast while moving
  2. frequent invulnerability jumps
  3. no energy

And that’s it. I don’t really say it in a negative sense, these can be fun things. there are positive and negative aspects i think. for the negative aspects i think it can be summarized as: there is less risk involved

  1. you lose the consideration of movement vs casting
  2. you can trivialize any attack
  3. no consequence for mindless spamming

There is a lot less risk and there is not much reward for playing well.

another issue is there are rarely any interesting combos of skills. most skills simply do damage in different ways. very few “conditionals” such as “if enemy is x then this skill does y” where x is some effect that you or a teammate can set up and y is some very desirable outcome.

This +1 to both
what is gw2 missing is team play for both players and mobs.

Dailies - the bane of modern games

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Assyrian.4827

the REALL problem with dailies is the REWARD. I will ignore dailies and play the game the way I want but that is not an option.
dailies were introduced to (slow players time-gated ) give players another way of getting Ascended.
remove the reward and we will be back at problem of needing another way to get the rewards.
In general the reward system in GW2 is kitten.

2 weeks =14 days
so each team will have 14+14+14=42 days before it is their turn to show what they made.
that is so great a new profession and new skills made in less than 2 months
game balance will be total chaos .
and we will be doing the (beta) testing.

Or maybe the other people, the ones not on a LS team, will be working on the more long-term stuff. But why think reasonably when you can “prove” you’re right by jumping to conclusions.

Each team is responsible for 2, 2 week patches. For example, the team that did Dragon Bash would have also done Sky Pirates (and I am fairly certain that these were made by the same team). So, all 4 groups get 4 months to make their 2 content patches.

What other people ?
oh the group that is still working on LFG tool.

The article states that the living story team only makes up a small part of their overall development team. The other groups are working on the much larger content that takes a longer amount of time and resources than the living story stuff.[/quote]

“…every two weeks there will be a release with brand new playable content…”
Each team is responsible for 2, 2 week patches. That means each team will have 3 months not 4.
and this is bad thing because I thing we will see 4 stories that are not connected to each other and a lot of copy & paste.

Don’t forget that now that the Living Story teams are in place, and each team is responsible for 2 consecutive updates, each team has 4 months to work on their month’s content. I think we will see meatier patches henceforth, and no reason we can’t see things like whole new zones, or professions eventually, or anything we might see in an expansion tied into these bi-weekly patches. It’s very exciting. =)

Let’s put it bluntly. The living story is only holding people’s interest for NOW. People are waiting, and once they cannot wait anymore. They will move on to the next thing.

I’m tired of waiting, and I’ve had more than enough living story. It just feels like we’re bouncing from one random, completely unrelated story to the next. None of it matters, and none of it has anything to do with the rest of the game’s world or story. Random steampunk flying pirates show up out of nowhere to crash an already somewhat silly celebration…I feel like I should be watching this from the back row of a theater while a man and his two robot friends heckle the screen.

mrstealth your words in this comment and your previous ones, encompass my own feelings about the current state of the game.
The Living Story Project is not delivering a story as well scripted or acted out as what we were given from lvl 1-80. We do not hear our characters talk, we do not get to make choices as them, and we do not see their personalities which we chose influence their decisions. Not to mention the story they are involved themselves has no impact on them or the world.
1. Dredge and Charr unite to fight the world and spawn mute refugees out of thin air. They are defeated after one of their facilities is blown up…never to be heard of again. (dungeon removed)
2. Mute refugees are moved to previously abandoned island and tricked into a binding contract. They rebel and we punch them in the face. (dungeon removed)
3. Speaking of punching, lets Bash some Dragons! You remember the dragons right? Lets celebrate how they aren’t a threat anymore (since we wont see an expansion anytime soon lol)
4. Sky Pirates attack festival! Turns out not only are they able to steal airships from the army that conquered Orr and slayed a Dragon but they can also create a fortress within LA itself without anyone noticing! Good thing they aren’t very smart when it comes to putting a lock on their front door! (Dungeon soon to be removed)

Where's GW1 in GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Assyrian.4827

Assyrian.4827

Wrong. By your logic, GW2 is a glorified expansion of eevry single generic mmo out there. I’m not asking for the entirity of gw1 to come back, but only some of its features.

GW1 is an outdated game nowadays (the engine is many years old), and it is no longer supported, balanced or expanded by anet.

GW1 does not need an expansion pack. It needs a sequel.

Gw2 is a MMORPG so by that definition alone it will have similarities with other MMORPGs. FYI GW2 runs on a modified GW1 engine.

GW1 had serious balancing issues, so multiclassing would be a nightmare in a full mmo.

GW2 is a proper mmo so bringing back heroes and henchmen would make it into a solo game where its more convenient to go solo in dungeons with ai than with other ppl like in GW1. Culling would be a nightmare in open world or if they ever remove culling alot of ppl would have unbearable lag.

GW2 is less than a year old, they can easily add more spells/abilities over time

The best thing i found with GW1 dungeons was collision so grps(myself with my heroes) could block certain gaps to create a proper tanking senario. GW2 doesnt use the holy trinity so thats void.

Cant think of what else you would look forward to now

GW1 with all the bad things is fun & replay able
to me GW1 Ascalon (pre-Searing) is more fun than entire GW2.

now I don’t know for fact that the game is dying but like many others with big guilds that have 1 or 2 ppl still playing.
I think we will not see an expansion.
here is why:
GW2 sold 3 million copies.
most of that came from GW1fans (pvp game with some pve) which they lost them.
the game has core problems support/control/ condition damage…………………………..
no character progression no end game made a lot of ppl leave and will most likely not buy an expansion based on what they got .
now how many of the 3 million will still buy an expansion ?
I say the will be lucky to get 1 million.

What makes you think the people who quit won’t come back? If they get wind of an expansion they just might.

they might do it or go play wild star ,TESO………………………….

I would really recommend learning where your classes’ Immobilizes are, those usually cause them to be downed fairly quickly.
For a Mesmer use sword main hand and skill “3”, it sends a clone to the enemy but when you press it again (“3”) you get ported to the enemy and immobilize it.

Even better
Use #3 – F3 – #3 – #2
Even when the clone is destroyed, you can still tele to where the clone used to be before exploding (tested this in pve while leveling my slave asura my guild portal for jumping puzzles)

both of you need to L2p
Mesmer can’t use skills if thief is stealthed.

every class in GW1 was able to rez using a skill but he needed to recharge that skill in order to use it again by killing a boss.
for WvW every time you enter, you can rez someone but in order to do that again you need to kill a player to recharge your rez ability.

Q.Why players loved the siege weapons bug.
I think it is because it forced more open field battles and players like it more(even with the lag )than hitting doors.
because we use skill in open field combat.
so why not through some objective that force open field combat.
this is how it is going to work each map will get three of that objective. all three start at the same time. finishing them will give you points for your server.
this will be fun plus it will force the zerg to split to cover all three.

I think the problem has to do with skills tied to weapons.
It would be easier if each player is able to apply only one stack of each condition.
if there is another player that’s 2 stack…. 25 players 25 stacks.
but this won’t work unless they change the weapon/skill system and traits .

In other words a new game.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Assyrian.4827

  • I felt more rewarding in GW even as Anet hated me back the in rewarding my efford.
guildies gave me greens because after 20 runs i still had not got even 1. But even then I got the feeling i did something. Even though GW1 gave me more joy i since the GW2-Beta’s i could no longer play it.
  • GW1 was a very story driven game, this is all gone due to the open world and personal story is 3rd rank by now.

This is not GW1. It was never intended to be. Why do you insist it must be the same experience?

GW2 plays in the same world / lore and they did claim you would have everything you liked from GW1.

Anyone who seriously analyzes that statement HAS to know that it’s nothing more than marketing and the kind of thing every company says. Let’s be logical for a moment.

Everything YOU love about Guild Wars 1. Does Anet know you? Have they polled you? How about if you love something from Guild Wars 1 that I hate, or I hate something from Guild Wars 1 that you loved? What if I really really loved a specific bug in the game? Should that bug be in this game too? What if I really loved Prince Rurik? Should he make a return?

I really really really hated Spamadan…standing around and selling my stuff. Some people loved it. Should Guild Wars 2 not have a marketplace then?

People need to have some common sense when viewing marketing from ANY company.

I think what Arena net thought that the things players like from GW1 are no subscription fee / lore.
nobody asked them so we may never know the true answer.

This has been said before combo fields needs big changes .
it needs to be more powerful less spammable and more controllable one combo field will not remove the one before it.
each class will have access to one kind of combo fields.
combo fields should NOT give you the same things that you can get from skills or utility.
I think this will spice it up a little bet.

Millions watch soccer because it is a fun game to play? yes
ppl have fun playing soccer because millions watch it? no

Millions watch soccer because it is a fun game to watch. Not everybody can play soccer but even those who don’t play soccer watch soccer (Most of the soccer analysts and shoutcasters didn’t even play any soccer but studied it academically). Know why? because it is a fun game to watch. And that’s the first step. Appeal to the spectators. Then that spectator can buy a soccer ball and try a few tricks in his back yard. Then he may sign up in his varsity. Etc Etc.

Professional soccer players have fun playing soccer not only for the sake of fun, but also from their pay. Popular teams have better sponsorship or extra pay from their merchandise. It’s a popularity contest between individual players too. And this won’t happen without people who watch them, buy their stuff, talk highly of them or make a viral blogpost about them.

Professional players have fun playing soccer because the millions of people who watch it makes it popular, carrying them players. When it’s popular, there is pouring of $$$, sponsorship and fame. And when it’s popular, people will try to play it in a vacant lot or even setup their own amateur league. and that’s by the millions.

This is how you grow a sport, or an e-sport even.

What made soccer a popular game because it was fun to play. People started watching it.
What will make GW2 pvp popular when it is fun to play.

@alcopaul

Oh boy.

So you’re telling me you don’t even PLAY tPvP in this game? And you’re basing the PvP experience of BOTH games off of SPECTATING???

Jesus man.

You’re going to sit there and tell me it’s more important for ANet to make a game that’s easier for spectators to watch than it is for them to make a game that is actually awesome to play.

Sponsors want popular e-sports based on number of spectators. The word viral itself depend on the number of people following a content. Yes, spectators matter. The more engaging and exciting to watch an e-sport, the more people will watch them. It an integral gauge. Why is Gangnam Style popular? Because it has a billion or more views in youtube. Popular and population? Same root right?

In this day and age, you gotta please the spectators. Most athletes do it for the spectators. IDK what goes into the minds of Lebron and Kobe when they play basketball. I’m thinking that they must be bored because its only passing a ball in a circular ring. That must be boring? right? but no. They get paid because of the sponsorship which is because there are billions of people watching them buying their merchandise and idolizing and trying to imitate them. Money, fame, respect in exchange of putting a ball inside a circular ring. What do the athletes have to do? Promote the game. Speak well of the league. Do they complain about the boringness of shooting kitten for almost one year and almost do it everyday? you don’t see that. (People here don’t know how to sugarcoat or force swallow just to make the scene good and grow it.)

And these spectators will patronize and like a sport that is easy to watch or exciting or they think that is strategic. See, some people like to spectate chess, and some people like to spectate curling.

I’m part the demographic that A.NET wants to reach out to – those who don’t play tPvP or don’t even own the game but is enticed to play it because the advertisement (observer mode) is so convincing or a reputable site that headlines “GW2 tPvP, exciting to watch, more exciting to play!” swayed them to try it for themselves. And I’m pretty sure, were over 9000 larger in population compared the number of top teams. Business wise, A.NET would want this because this just means that if their tPvP becomes appealing, it will become popular and if it is popular, more people will buy the game. And the first step to learning something is not to immediately do it, but to watch how it is done. So spectate first, learn, get their builds and try to get to solo que, perhaps?

Yes, I’m basing my third person/omni view of PvP experience by watching them. It’s like being God, you see what happens in all sides. You’ll see the whole abstraction. If you play the game, you just see yourself doing your own thing. You may see some intricacies but you won’t see everything. Sure you could watch your match later on, but if you do, YOU BECOME A SPECTATOR, just like me..

You know what? Shoutcasters are spectators too. And for them to be exciting to hear, what they are watching should be exciting too, right? Shoutcasters don’t play the game and shoutcast at the same time, last time i check.
