Why are invasions no invasions?

Have you even stopped to think how that would be possible? How much work that would require? Dynamic Events are anything but dynamic, they are all heavily scripted and controlled. Every single location on a map that the invasion could capture would require individually scripting every single NPC involved to stop respawning at certain times and to come back at others, all linked to every invasion event in every location in every map. Each event would require unique capture/fail triggers and custom pathing for all invading enemies so that they actually “invade.”

Realistically they may have been able to pull that off for a single small zone in an extended patch schedule (it’s basically redoing the entire zone), but to do that on 13 maps is more work than what goes into an expansion pack.

I don’t see a difference between these events and every other DE in the game in terms of difficulty, strategy, or even realism for the most part. You talk about failing an event and that having consequences, that consequence is usually them standing around waiting for you to come back and kill them. There’s a whole game full of enemies standing around waiting to be killed.

I find them fun, and there’s plenty of personal challenge to be had if you aren’t lazy and mindlessly following people around spamming 1 with a ranged weapon. Break off to the sides and go after the stuff other people aren’t fighting yet. Surprise, they fight back. How long can you survive with half an encounter agroed on you while everyone else is auto-attacking the champ?

In a few days there likely wont be overflows for the invasions, unless maybe you are on a really high-pop server. Then it wont matter if you get disconnected you can just hop back in. As for the disconnects themselves, that’s on your end. I haven’t been disconnected from this game a single time in the past 100+ hours /played.

You don’t need a recipe to convert them. It sounds like either that recipe you got is an item put in by mistake or you are misreading it.

You get 1 scrap from completing a specific zone invasion a second or third time in a day, so it’s possible you could get 10 more that way to complete another shoulder. The invasions are permanent though, they might continue to reward scrap indefinitely or if they remove that from their rewards they will probably give them a money value so we can vendor extras.

I wouldn’t mind the duration or cooldown so much if this game had a normal hotbar I could stick it on and hotkey. Something I could press on a whim without interrupting what I’m doing. I can’t be kitten to open my inventory to search for and double click on something that lasts for such a short duration. Tried it once and dumped it in my bank, just like my minis which for whatever reason seem to last as long.

Nobody has even completed one of the boss events on my server yet. The same bosses have been up since yesterday. I spent a few hours soloing in there today to finish my represent/kill achieves, drops weren’t anything special from the normal vets.

I dc’ed in 1 got back in because I was in a party but didn’t get credit obviously because it didn’t register me as starting and finishing the event. Good job anet now can you please give me my credit given how long these invasions last (which is another problem).

That’s not how it works. You can come in near the end and participate minimally and still get credit according to some. The problem is, the game randomly decides to not give you achieve credit, for no reason. It’s a nasty bug, which I haven’t seen a dev comment on yet.

I noticed zero difference in champ spawn rates. Still getting 1-2 champs per reinforcement wave with ~15-20 people at an AB event, all other event types were not changed since their champs were all fixed to begin with.

Up for debate. I’ve opened over 100 of the bags/boxes and haven’t gotten a single shoulder skin from them. Which makes me satisfied with my choice of picking scrap for my first 5 invasions to get my “guaranteed” skin, even though I have no plans of using it.

As far as I can tell they didn’t actually touch champ spawns, at all. You can still even run into champs while alone since some of the starting spawns still include one. The only thing this patch appears to have done is make the AB events even harder by adding Lts to them, champions still spawn from them at the same rate with the same numbers of people as before from what I can see.

I notice a lot of people like to whine on these forums about things they haven’t even verified for themselves.

It’s actually not tied to clearing the events, but actual kills of those enemies in my experience. People definitely tend to beeline for AB portals when they come up, but when they do the AB minion gauge drops quickly, and as soon as it empties reinforcements and captain spawns stop.

So, how do I finish the achievements?

Zerging AB champs doesn’t fail the event.

Having half the map doing nothing but completing maybe a total of 4 events during the entire invasion, does. Especially when you have another 25% afk and have only 7 people trying to complete the entire event, and they can’t finish because of scaling in some of the events.

The portals only scale up so much, a big zerg hitting one of them clears it in seconds, champions or not. If it’s big enough some people don’t even have time to land hits on the champs. This behavior does not cause the event to fail, generally that level of organization helps the event succeed more often.

You still aren’t understanding the issue.

There is no way to get the achievement if you:

Don’t know which maps you have not done.

Can’t ever get Fireheart Rise.

That has nothing to do with what the OP is talking about or this thread in general. That’s a bug, one I have reported myself since day one and completely agree needs to be fixed.

Killing any event champion progresses the event. “Farming” them is not detrimental to overall event progress. We succeed events more often with big zergs of players steam rolling champion spawns than we do when people split off into too many smaller groups and struggle with each portal.

So, how do I finish the achievements?

I’ve been running a defensive toughness/heal/leech necro, with some crit (30%) just for more leech procs. Further, I was using level 35 daggers all day, while my necro leveled from 50 to 60, I was just leveling so fast and couldn’t be bothered to upgrade. I still had no problem getting kill credit on everything I touched, assuming I wasn’t 5+ levels under it.

The system is extremely forgiving and there’s really no way you can build a character that would lock you from getting decent loot that couldn’t be solved with a few simple skill swaps.

There’s only one way to “farm champs” in these events, and that is to ignore the aether captain and kill the champ reinforcements. It is not any more time efficient than normally clearing the event and moving onto the next, and the captain gives better loot than the normal champs. I’ve never seen anyone attempt this, and I don’t think it’s even possible because you can’t control that many people and a few of them are going to kill the captain regardless of what other people tell them to do.

In every other invasion event killing the champions either progresses it rapidly or outright clears it.

There is no issue here.

You don’t need to group, you just need to throw around a lot of big AoE or make sure to attack the champs over the normal/vets. I have 80 bag slots and go into these with 76 of those free, and I usually fill my bags by the end of an invasion and that’s after deleting any random trash I pick up. Solo.

The fact that you didn’t provide the character name or argue that it wasn’t offensive pretty much kills your argument. People tend to get banned/actioned in waves, a CS reviews the reports and puts the name on the list and somebody else comes along later and takes actions all at once. Sometimes it’s intentionally built up so thousands are actioned at the same time.

You aren’t. I hate it.

It wouldn’t be so bad if the cast time wasn’t so long and easily interrupted. Most of the time you are better off letting them get revived than standing there for like 4 seconds getting beat on only to be interrupted right before the end or to have the enemy revive them before you can finish (because they can be revived almost instantly).

It’s an interesting mechanic but horribly implemented currently.

I got both. You only need to be on the map and zone there in the begining and stay till the end. Participate in killing some pirates, champions, Scarlet’s minions and you will get it.

It just doesn’t always work, it’s buggy. Like I said I had to do Fireheart twice today and only got credit the second time, while both were fails and the first time I got my apparently daily invasion reward for the zone.

for doing the invasion the reward is also a once a day reward.

You mean once per day per zone? I’ve done like 7 or 8 invasions today and got full invasion rewards for all but one of those. But ya it was my second time doing Fireheart today so that would make sense.

I have not experienced any loss in exp/money/karma from the portal events. I’m actually doing the events though, from start to finish, not just tagging and running to the next. The DE DR doesn’t kick in that quickly for it to effect you if you are doing these normally, unless you’ve already been in the zone for a while farming something else.

I have apparently hit a different kind of DR, maybe. After doing like 8 invasions today I just got a single piece of scrap as a fail reward for one, failing worse in the past has provided me with a choice of 40 scrap or 4 boxes along with the other money/exp/karma/item rewards. I got nothing but a single piece of scrap though, and I participated plenty. Not sure if it glitched or if you do so many invasions in one day they stop giving rewards.

It doesn’t make any sense. Did the fire zone twice, both times we ran out of time before finishing the third wave. The first time I still got a big reward, 4 boxes and the extra items and exp/silver, but did not get credit for stopping the invasion in my achieves. Second time I got a single piece of scrap and no exp or money at all, but got credit for stopping the invasion.

I turned 250 of them into a shoulder skin, so it at least works correctly sometimes. I’m pretty sure it’s supposed to be 100%, sounds like a bug.

No I probably haven’t. Fluff cosmetic items don’t really interest me that much. Somebody somewhere is going to sell something unnecessary in a game for ridiculous amounts of money, doesn’t mean you need to buy it.

Break away from the ball, stay away from tags if possible. You can usually find smaller groups (10-20) running in a different direction which handles content at a more reasonable pace. Sticking with the zerg is a mistake for everyone, you need to spread out to clear the invasion in time.

I run the game flawlessly on ultra and the cutscene didn’t even come close to making my FPS dip, yet Scarlet’s lips never moved a single time throughout the whole thing and at the end I did see her disappear before her gun. (Edit: My latency is usually sub 100, but I have no idea what it was during the scene.)

I don’t understand why I appear to be the only one that enjoyed the large face to face conversation scenes that make up the rest of the game. Suddenly veering away from that style is totally screwing with the feel of the game. It seems out of place, and obviously not something the engine/server/scripters can handle.

It’s buggy. I did the 5/5 portal closing stage and he kept telling me to report back to him in DR, the invasion finished and I teleported back and all my progress was wiped. I was at 2/5 before starting the invasion, was at 2/5 after finishing. It’s like switching from an overflow server to my real server rolled back my achievement progress, but only for the quest achievements. I still kept for example the achieve for killing Scarlet.

I’ve been online for 4 invasions and only got to see one, which was a massive zergfest. Although I was there for the whole thing, participated in at least 10-15 portal events, since everything died so quickly I only landed enough hits to score credit for 2 of those portals. The next invasion was in a level 80 zone, my highest is a level 60, so I didn’t even attempt to run there. The next two I got stuck in an overflow and never made it in because I didn’t have any waypoints in the zones and had to run there. The grace period still doesn’t feel like 10 minutes, I didn’t have to run that far.

Click on the living story tracker on the right to expand it. It will either say something about a warning being issued for all zones, or that a certain zone is under attack. The attacks last about an hour, and there’s about 30-60 minutes between attacks. So far it’s only been level 40+ zones I believe.

Shoes suck. I’d go barefoot everywhere if it was acceptable, but for whatever reason most places require footwear, so I wear flip-flops, even in winter, with a foot of snow on the ground. I totally relate to Jenna and hope they never cramp her feet.

She used to get quite a breeze up her dress as well, talk about living in comfort.

I missed all the previous events so I couldn’t say how they should work. I see no issue with leaving the current Queen’s Jubilee event in, mostly as is, permanently. They could remove the chests from the balloon towers and make the events that lock them less common (like every 30-60 minutes instead of every 30 seconds). I think they fit into the maps and gameplay fine in most cases, and the events don’t really disturb anything. The Pavilion is in it’s own instance, there’s no reason to remove or change it, though they might want to tone down the difficulty of the enemies and event bosses after the next event comes out since there will likely be far fewer players participating.

I usually have a lot of free time but for the past few months I haven’t been able to play GW2 at all. I had been hearing a bit about all the new content being “added” over the months but did not expect it to be temporary. Coming back to play this week I found out I had missed all of it, which is such a frustrating feeling that I’m honestly not sure I even want to put more time into the game. I can’t really comprehend the decision to spend development time on so much temporary content, the reason a lot of people want new content added all the time is to have diversity. This “living world” stuff is not adding any diversity to the content, it’s giving you one thing to do at a time then taking it away and replacing it with something else. I just don’t understand it at all. Reading through some of the past updates it sounds like if all that content was left in the game there would be so much more fun stuff for me to do right now, and thinking about that makes me sad.

So far the dev responses to this issue have not really left me feeling optimistic. It sounds like they might bring back some of the dungeons and instanced content as some sort of flashback, but I want to see it all. Not as another temporary repeat, but as a permanent addition to the game.

I’d pay for extra classes and races. I probably would not pay for quest lines or dungeons. Then again I wouldn’t actually need to pay for any of it since I could just buy the gems with gold, so maybe I would. It’s more likely though it will work like GW1 and they will release expansions.

You double click a transmutation stone and select two items, then pick the appearance you want and the stats you want and you get a new item that looks the way you want with the better stats.

They are kind of hard to get without gems though, and you upgrade gear so often as you level that the system is kind of pointless until 80, at which point you need different stone that cost even more.

What you said is patently false.

If you want to use daggers as an elementalist, you are forced into melee range. And, I have 10 points into Earth spec, and still get one shot. I refuse to use a certain attunement because that is the only viable way to make an elementalist not outclassed by every other class in the game. That is not balanced.

That’s sort of a waste. You put 10 points into an element that gives a bonus for being attuned to it then complain when you die while not attuned? The 100 toughness from 10 points in the line is hardly useful alone. At level 25 on my elementalist I had over 600 defense while standing still, closer to 700 while channeling. You also need to be stacking toughness on your gear if you want to be able to take hits. If that isn’t your intention then don’t bother with it, go all offense and stay at range like everyone else was suggesting, you’ll do fine as long as you learn to dodge and stay out of trouble. There is nothing false about my statement, you can make a tanky elementalist and shrug off hits like they are nothing, you just need to spec for it, and that includes using the correct attunements.

People need to stop looking at this game as if class selection really makes that big of an impact on what type of character you can make them. My elementalist is earth/water spec, I run around usually with dual daggers almost always in earth attunement, I have better defense than my guardian, can tank anything, and can run into a large group of enemies and drop a Churning Earth to kill all of them at once (after a couple seconds of bleeding). If you ignore defenses on any class you will die in 1-2 hits, this includes warriors and guardians, if you instead stack toughness and defensive skills you can take hits from any boss with ease on any class. You aren’t fragile because you are an elementalist, you are fragile because you have low toughness.
