I’m not sure why some people can’t understand that if rare things get common, they drop in value and then your loots won’t be worth anything.
It’s a good thing that drop rates of rare things are low for your income.

Cheap rares are better for my income than no rares. And it’s not like they were worth much in the first place, even before drop chest upgrade.
Besides, i don’t sell them, but salvage for ecto. Which i gather also not for selling, but for personal use.

Also

After reading Martin’s answer on here this doesn’t seem that bad. The guaranteed rare will come once per account. But you can still come back with alts and do it and still have a CHANCE of a rare coming out of the chest. Also it looks like the precusars and exotics are still coming out of the chest.

The best chance for named exotics and precursors was from the guaranteed rare being upgraded to exotic (in truth, it was not a guaranteed rare, but a “rare or better” drop). With the lower number of guaranteed good drops, chance for precursors will plummet. Also, it’s not sure if the “rare or better” part will be retained at all – we might get “just rare” from now on.

If only there was some kind of instanced content that gave decent rewards so overflows wouldnt be an issue.

They already started being a non-issue. After the initial influx of people, the numbers continued to go down and down, and lately i could easily get into a dragon event even after the window started. I didn’t get an overflow even once in the last 4 days or so.
I just hope that they will balance the drop nerf with increased drops in open world – where it’s needed the most.

It’s poor design IMO…the terminology and concept does lead to confusion and since some of those items can only be purchased via a currency that takes a long time to obtain…why not give users the message “Unique : You can only equip one of these items on your character”…or something like that…prevent users from making a move they will regret and then resent the game for it.

Sloppy programming/design IMO.

It is NOT sloppy programming/design.

It’s a well-known term in the MMO world and because some people may not know its meaning because they’re new to MMOs doesn’t mean it’s sloppy programming or design.

Actually, it is a sloppy design, and it has nothing whatsoever with the term “Unique” being widely known or not. It is a sloppy design, because there’s no reason for the rings to be unique in the first place. In this case the mechanics that has a possibility of being confusing to some players is here only to be confusing to some players. It serves no other purpose at all.

I hope they cry everytime they read this thread.

I get the feeling that it’d be more likely that they’re laughing.

I think they’d say that guild missions are working as intended. For some reason, they designed them for large guilds. They made them expensive so most guilds of medium to small size would have to grind to unlock them. That means more time playing and/or grinding, which they hope will translate to more money being spent as well.

No this means that there is actually a reason to play together with your guild because that increases your influence gain.

Or a reason to abandon ship and move to a bigger guild that has all the bennies already.
It’s already happening with a lot of smaller guilds.

Is GW2 still heavy cpu or?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

Late in the betas they were still saying that the graphics engine is still running on cpu, and that optimization will be the last step before moving to full version. Then of course they rushed the opening, and since that time there was no mention about engine optimization at all.

It’s no longer 100% cpu, as in the beginning, but the game is still a long way from utilizing GPU to the fullest (not to mention the dx10/11 case).

That’s really nothing, come on. If I take 7000 damage or 6500 damage is not very important (heavy- to medium-armor). I am not taking 4 Warriors for that reason alone, when I can get different professions with different and unique skills, that’s just not logical at all.

Nobody takes warriors or guardians just for their armor alone. It’s their skills that matter.
Just for your information – i do have characters of all 8 classes. I can also see the difference between inherent class strength and class strength that depends on higher skill level. This is not the case of engineers being equally good but harder to play. They are just weaker.

Just make a warrior and try for yourself. You will see the difference pretty soon. You won’t even need to hit lev 80…

Calling the locust “dedicated”, while most of the really dedicated players that bought in the game philosophy, that helped advertise the game and make it a success are left out on the sidelines is a slap in the face from the Anet team.

Also, if it was meant to be a prestige gear, they would have started with the pieces that are visible.

They can’t be SO much better than, lets say, my engineer with a bombkit-build or whatever.

They are. Just as Guardian and Warrior are currently at the top of class balance, the Engineer is at the very bottom.

Warriors offer great dps coupled with good survivability. There’s really no other class that can compare to them with sustained dps (thieves can compare with burst, but sustained damage is not their strong spot). Guardians can have great damage, but they really shine at support and survivability. Guardian support bunker builds can survive a lot while still being able to deal noticeable damage and providing whole group with boons.
Engineers don’t even come close.

I could go back to GW and start a fresh character in Prophecies right now and have maxed out gear in less than a day. I could even shave a few hours off that if I permitted myself access to the expansion.

Show me how to do that in GW2, and I’ll stop believing that Ascended material and time costs aren’t absurd.

Ever considered that capability you had in GW was intentionally left out of GW2 because it’s dumb in terms of retaining players who spend real money in the cash shop?

No, because that is simply not true. According to Anet’s own info GW was actually doing very well financially until they dropped a bridge on it.

I´m surprised nobody is thinking about infusions:

Anet said they won´t add better gear then ascended, they never said they won´t add better infusions then blue ones – figure out a full set of ascended gear with ascended infusions, you certainly would want this.

Fixed that for you, for better clarity of your message.
And it’s still unclear if armor and weapons won’t have “ascended” rune/sigil versions.

You paid for an opportunity to reach the lofty heights of content, stepping up and reaching them is step two – you can do eeet guys!

How many “Months” ago did the guild missions open up another path?

Just wait and see the feeling of reward that you’ve accomplished a non-trivial goal – its great!

Ah, i see. That’s the problem – i don’t see getting stat gear as accomplishment. I see it as preparation phase. Therefore, by acquiring it i don’t get a feeling of reward, but rather one of relief, of a chore that i got out of the way.
Basically: gear is not content. Content is content.

Highly doubt it. Lot of people will have one or two ascended eq, but not eveyone, and only a few will have all currently existing ascended slots filled. Remember, you can rule out earring acquisition through guild mission for most, and getting them the laurel way is 2 months minimum. For a lot of people it will be much more.

Influence earnt in a large guild is no different to that in a small guild, members still need to grind an work hard to get those influence levels.

No, individually they don’t. In a big guild, the average influence grinded can be (and often is) much lower than in smaller guilds, and yet at the same time the total gain will be orders of magnitude greater. Quantity over quality.

More tiers are needed really.

Definitely. And with not only ramped difficulty (starting easier than tier 1 now, but ending higher than tier 3), but also with separate unlock costs, low at first tiers, and increasingly high when moving to the harder ones.

What I would like to know is why this complicated system, which causes extra work for Anet and confusion to players, when the endresult is still that any infusion can be put into any slot?

Most likely because it results in more grind.

“they just need alots of ppl in same place thats it” – so how are you going to kill 6(2 and 4 are for smaller groups) bosses in different places when all your teammates are in the same place? You need to know where they are and coordinate your efforts.

Yep, you need to split into 6 smaller groups and send them at each boss separately. That is however the end of coordination – each kill is in reality just a zerg in action. And this is good, because it would be practically impossible to coordinate it even further (imagine trying to micromanage 6 battles at once…).

What is your definition of grind?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

Grind: Game play done not for its intrinsic value but rather as a means to some end.

In other words, if I play just to get something then I’m grinding.

So the road matters not, but for the destination at the end?

If you are not interested in the road, but only in the destination, then yes, travelling is a grind.
In MMO’s grind-based mechanics would be creating long roads that are not interesting in itself, and that are travelled only because of what’s on their end.

Concerns About Future Ascended Armor

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Astralporing.1957

Nah, ArenaNet will just get to sell a lot of lvl 80 transmute stones at the gem store. People will keep their unique looks. The transmute stone lets you separately pick the appearance, the stat package, and the rune/gem.

While lot of people (myself included) are indeed interested in arnor looks for purely cosmetic reasons, there is equally big group that wants to show off theiraccomplishments that way. All those people that claim that cultural armor must cost a lot, or it won’t be as cool are not going to convert their ascended looks into something cheaper. In the end, unless something changes, lot of the “elite” grinders are going to end up looking exactly the same.
At least they will have the option to change their colour sets.

so what do you call a guild with 100? 200? 300? 400? 500?

50 total players in the entire guild is small in comparison to the max amount of players you can have.

10 players isn’t much at all, thats two parties. I would say you needed at least 25 for a small guild. I would say 10 is tiny.

Personally?
Tiny guilds would be those with one 5-man group or smaller. Small would be below 15 people active – so somewhere in the 6-25 people total range. Anything above that, but less than 100 ppl is medium. Then we have big guilds of 100+ people, and huge with about 300+
The border between last two is not clear, but in general anything above 100 is big, and anything close to the guild limit of 500 (or splintering into multiple big guilds) is huge.

I’d say, that 80 people is small only for the members of the big guilds (and people used to such numbers).
Small guilds in general are not the random recruitment parties, but social groups of close friends. 80 is well beyond a group of friends.

This kind of took me aback a little. I thought the community in GW2 was above this. I mean, to draw the classic parallel, this isn’t WoW. Surely we’re a little bit more grown up and less materialistic than only caring about how much loot we’re going to get out of a situation?

Last few months of updates taught us that, indeed, loot and gear are the most important thing in this game. Or at least the devs want us to think so.

Also, as someone mentioned before, it’s a poor event design.

As it turns out, the concerns were not only completely valid, but predicted what happened later quite well. Anthony’s explanations on the other side turned out to have only passing connection to the actual content.

That saying, again – this post is not new. Anything mentioned in it (blogpost, additional informations) concerns things that already happened. There is no new Anet reaction to the guild missions problem (yet, at least).

Ascended Gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

In a recent article Colin Johanson explained how he felt about adding ascended gear into GW2. "I think that ascended gear was something we should have had at launch.
“We didn’t’ have something above exotic level you put in a lot of time and earn it, but you don’t have to put in your whole life to earn like a legendary weapon.”

So my question to you is, would there be such an uproar if ascended gear came out prior to the launch of GW2 or would you still feel the same?

I would. Of course the treadmill itself is a bad thing, one that’s enough to cause uproar, but it’s not the only problem with this gear. The other is the price. It’s just way too high – certainly in the “you have to put your whole life to earn” cathegory they said it won’t be in. Which is fine for vanity equipment, but not for stat advantage.

How far behind am i on gear?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

I quit about 2 months after launch. Had a full set of exotics which was the best then.

Just wondering what i would need to catch up.

Ascended amulets cost 30 laurels (you get one laurel per completed Daily, and 10 per one completed Monthly achievement). Ascended rings cost 35 laurels, drop randomly from daily chest in Fractals at levels 10+, and may be bought with 10 pristine relics (you get one pristine relic in daily chests in fractals at levels 10+. There is one daily chest per tier: so one for levels 10-18, one for levels 20-28, then 30-38 etc)
Ascended earrings can be bought with 40 laurels and 50 ecto each from laurel vendor. Alternatively, can be bought for 12 commendations from the guild vendor. You get 2 commendations for participating in a guild mission. It’s currently unsure what is a weekly cap for those – 2 commendations weekly, 2 per each mission type weekly, or 2 per mission type weekly except for Trek, for some reason (that last is most likely at the moment, and would get you 8 commendations weekly cap).
Due to cost of unlocking guild missions, and (to a lesser degree) number requirements in doing them, practically only big guilds can do them. For all others there’s the laurel vendor.
Ascended backpack is a Mystic Forge recipe. It requires Vial of coagulated mist essence (a level 1-9 fractal rare drop), philosopher’s stones or crystals, and either 250 tier 6 mats + 50 ecto, or fractal capacitor (1350 fractal relics) + gift of ascension (500 fractal relics).

All of the above can take you from 20 days to over 3 months (and more) to acquire, depending on your playing style.

Most of people do not “avoid” the forums – they either do not want to put an effort to post or read, don’t know the language (there is a lot of those), or don’t even know there are forums. This cuts across all the groups represented here – you are as likely to find supporters or opposition to any idea we argue here as you would on this forum.

True i did not play it for that long but there was a type of grind and i think that ppl complains about it just as much as they do here. When GW1 first came out ppl where writing it off as worst then WoW it too a year for the game to get good why not the same for GW2?

It’s the direction. GW2, instead of improving, is now actually worse than it was the moment it shipped out.

But how? I am not asking how Anet can rework there team i am asking what beyond just simply adding in a new events ever week or do we need something every day? I think something new a month is pushing it as is for both the Anet team and ppl ability to keep up (there would be a greater feeling of being left behind if you cant do all the content to the point of being overwhelmed (gear not the only thing that ppl will miss out on when they leave for a week).

So? If all the content is equal, providing horizontal alternatives, then coming after a year to see a new continent does not mean you are somehow behind. It only means that you haven’t been there yet. And there would be no barrier preventing you from going there and doing whatever you want. Nobody would say “you need to prepare for a month before visiting that region”. You could just play and have fun.

That is right, some people have duty weekends, some people fly in and out – but you have to tailor your passtimes to suit your lifestyle mate – can’t expect Anet to help out there, so they reward those who can only spare an hour or two here and there to play. Those who can only binge play (as you seem to be stuck with) are lower on the representation – so get screwed for the sake of the vast majority.

“Vast majority” does not play every day, so no, it’s exactly the other way around – it’s the majority that gets to suffer for the sake of a minority. Not to mention, the laurel cost for ascended set is too big even for those that do play every day. It’s already 180 laurels for only 5 slots. with whole set we will be looking at over a year of laurel farming.

Actually, it’s those that play Anet’s “social game” and like to play this game to the fullest that are slowed the most. The grinders are affected the least by this new mechanic.

Why does everyone hate Trahearne?

Sure, all he has on his resume is he’s unnaturally obsessed with Orr to the point that you should be suspecting he’s actually working for Zhaitan

And he’s a Sylvari. Member of a new race that other races of Tyria don’t seem to treat seriously yet. And he’s pushed into that position by the Pale Tree, which, as we know, is a great authority not only for humans and norn, but also charr and asura…

Seriously, why would a charr, with their known current attitude towards mysticism, visions and mysterious entities trying to manipulate them, agree to the Pale Tree’s “vision quest”? Why would it even matter for anyone besides a sylvari (and maybe a Norn)?

Frankly, the only reason why anyone would agree with naming Trahaerne a leader of the pact would be to make him a figurehead nobody’ll be listening to anyway.

Let me see. Amulet 30 laurels, rings 35 each, earrings 40+ 50 ecto each. Total 180 (+100 ecto, just for added fun). That’s nearly five months including monthlies. If you can log in every day for at least half an hour to hour.
Hint, there are lot of people that play only on weekends. That doesn’t mean they are lazy, or fail. Usually it means something exactly opposite.

“Nearly 5 months” != 1 year.

I see you didn’t read further. 5 months only if you do every daily and monthly on the way. And, surprise surprise, most people do not play every day.
So, for many, many people it’s going to be a year or more. Even if they play a lot.
For those that play only on weekends…
Also, you missed that my calculation includes only amulet, rings and earrings. There will be 6 armor slots more (7 if they add backpacks, 8 in case of aquabreathers), and weapons. Those are going to push fastest pure laurel acquisition time to over a year, and the average one into multiple years.
Yes, i am sure hardcore players will be able to get those way faster. After all, even now theoretically you can get both earrings in a single day (you can get lucky with guild mission rng rewards, and also commendations seem to be earned separately for each guild, so you can get more if you jump representation between guilds). Yes, there will be people that will get these eq very fast.
Which is exactly the point – the gap between the small minority of top grinders and the rest of the community as a result of high costs and time gating is getting bigger and bigger, instead of decreasing.

So is it the cost or the fact they exist? We are blurring lines here.

If they didn’t exist, the cost would not be a problem. If the cost was smaller, the problem would be smaller as well (though it would not just disappear).

If you don’t see why your latter suggestion doesn’t work, you haven’t been around these forums long enough.

Does this sound familiar?:

“This isn’t fair for people who don’t run fractals!” (Rings)
“This isn’t fair for people who don’t like the ____ dungeon!” (People who want Arah gear, but only want to do CoF)
“This isn’t fair for people who don’t do guild missions!” (Accessories)
“This isn’t fair for people who don’t play the TP!” (Market)
“This isn’t fair for people who have lag issues!” (Moving JPs)

Your proposed solution isn’t a solution. It just shifts the complaints to a different group of people.

To this end, the Ascended accessories are available through a specific, content based method (Guild Missions), and also available through a generic, generalized method (laurels). This is indeed the simplest and fairest way to do it.

No, the simplest and fairest way to do it is to make them accessible through all and every method that exotic gear was accessible, at comparable price/effort (so, if they’d have half the exotic drop chance, they would also have twice the cost in karma, dungeon tokens, crafting resources etc compared to exotics). No specific method should be visibly preferable, and all should be equally viable approaches.
Not what we have now.

It doesn’t take a year kitten troll. If it takes you a year you fail.

Unless you take years to do that there’s no chance that will happen.

Ah, but we are talking about years for casuals.

If you can’t even muster the 30-40 minutes on average daily to do your daily then this game is not for you. That’s the bottom line.

Yes, this game is not for casuals (the people that are a significant majority of players here, by the way). That’s what i have been saying from the very beginning. Thank you for agreeing.

T3 Cultural armors - why so expensive?

I have a watch that cost £1600 and a watch that cost £150, both of them keep excellent time. Is one better than the other? Only in my mind. To someone who is not into watches, one of them is a neccesity, the other is a pointless piece of self-indulgence.

Now, would you buy the £1600 one if they weren’t equal except for the price, but the cheaper one was actually a better watch? Because that’s what we have now.
