Sorry, you’re crazy. Unique is self explanatory and if you weren’t all that sure what it meant it was spelled out in the wiki.
1. It is not self-explanatory, which you would know if you read through this thread (or other similar ones) carefully. For example, GW1 also had Unique items. The term however meant something different than in GW2. There are many other MMO’s where this term is used for other things as well. And of course the basic meaning of Unique (the “self-explanatory” one) is in direct contradiction of the fact that you can in fact buy more than one.
2. I’d prefer if this game could be played without having to use off-game resources.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I know how upsetting it can be, but you can’t be stating the game didn’t think things out properly, because it did. There’s a reason why you can buy the same ring twice… it wasn’t bad development.
Yes, the ability to buy one than more is not where bad development lies. It’s in them having no warning whatsoever wbout what Unique means (especially since in GW1 the word had a significantly different meaning). It also lies in even using the mechanics at all – all the reasons for it ar very convoluted, and could be better achieved with much simpler and cleaner means.

It has been proven that the skin doesn’t change when you upgrade.
What the heck?!
Whats the point?!
You get an ascended backpack with healing power.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Yep, there should be 26 achievements available when you include the “just participating in Crab Toss” one. You must be missing one more – check if you have done the naked swimming and lava jumping achieves, and all 11 sample collections (including the one in JP).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
They should actually start with fixing the slot mixup on it (and the exotic version of sclerite shell). Though ascended version would be nice, i agree.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Its an RNG item, it states that in the description, yet people are always surprised when they don’t get lucky? Its like walking into a casino and being surprised you don’t win.
No, it’s wanting a shop in the shop, instead of a kitten casino.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
The problem I have with RNG is that you disappoint 100 customers for each 1 that is happy. I don’t see how that’s a good business strategy.
When the 100 players combined spend 10% as much as the one satisfied player, Anet has more to lose by driving him away than the 100.
Except next time that person might end up among those 100 dissapointed ones. RNG cash grabs are indeed a very good strategy, but mainly aimed at low retention high turnover environments (like browser games). You lose a ton of disappointed players, but you don’t care – they wouldn’t have stayed long anyway, and you get new ones in their place. That’s why you plan to get as much money from them as you can manage in the first try – because you might not have a second one.
In MMOs it may work well in the beginning, but if you plan for long time (and aim for your game to be a big one), you’d better stay away from it because it will eventually result in more players leaving than you can replace by new ones.
Small population games can get away with it. Bigger ones won’t.

If its in FotM. then no, if its anywhere else, then yes.
There is no contradiction here. It should be in FotM – just as any other ascended gear should be accessible through FotM. It should also be everywhere else – including WvW, TP, dungeon/karma vendors, open world drops and crafting (the normal kind, not the Mystic Toilet one). Otherwise there’s really no point.
That saying, no, i’d have been happier if ascended gear was never implemented at all.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I think there are several assumptions being made here and the biggest of which is the assumption the majority of the keys/consortium boxes whatnot are being bought using RL cash! I do not believe this to be the case. If you play guild wars enough, in-game gold will start to pile-up and there are a lot of players who have a small fortune in in-game gold. The high gold to gem exchange rate is proof that the majority of the RNG is being played with in-game gold NOT RL cash.
It is RL cash. It may not be gampler’s cash, but it still is very much real. Every gem that you can buy has been sold for gold by someone who got it with RL money.

Should allow transmutation along with this. I really don’t want the apothecary stats, although I have it on my human Ele just because it’s so nice :x
It’s good only for transmutation, because “someone” forgot to include a normal upgrade slot on it.

The problem with your logic is that when somone goes into a store to buy milk, they are expecting to get milk because the product package states that it contains milk. When somone is buying a RNG chest they are paying for the “chance” to get a unique item, expecting anything else just proves that they did not read the description of the item they were buying.
Yet people do not buy the chests for the chance of weapon skin drops.
Also, if the milk box had an information “can contain different content”, would that make it okay? I don’t think so.
The only reason people buy those boxes is because there is no other option of getting the skins. You have to remember, though, that while there is no alternative to these chests within GW2, there are other “shops” out there.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Just because infused back piece is now available outside of fractals doesn’t mean agony is coming. You can get MF infused into the piece, im sure other damage + stuff aswell in future.
You can’t get mf infused there. It’s a defensive slot, not an utility one.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
That works the other way too – If everyone has the vanity items, they stand out less so less incentive to buy them to be different.
The items still would have to be bought – just not through RNG. Most people would still not get them. The only difference would be in that people would be able to make an informed decision about buying those (instead of sinking a ton of cash on the boxes and likely getting nothing).
Woah woah woah…. stop right here.
Why are we trying to change GW2 into a subscription game?
because, no matter how bad it is, it’s still better than changing it into a casino.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
There was a reason why so many people liked GW1’s Pre-Searing, especially as compared to later Ascalon…
Remember, remember, 15th of November
in the interview linked in the 14.000 post thread that was promptly deleted ….
and in some other interviews of the same few days….False, unless you can prove it.
They did not say anything about introducing specifically agony to the open world, but they did say that agony was only the first of similar mechanics, and that we were goint to see more of those in the world. They might have meant open world (there certainly was some talk about updating open world to account for ascended eq) or just new dungeons. No way to tell now – especially since those ideas seem to have been scrapped.
And as far as infusion slots in rare flower back item and exotic tentacle sclerite shell, it’s most likely that those are a bug and someone just added a bad enhancement slot to them.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I haven’t had any arguments for the levelling/experience gains, though. Do uplevels gain the same percentage of XP non-uplevels gain when they do something in the zone (i.e gathering/events/etc)?
Xp is based on your real level, not the zone level, so that would be a moot question anyway
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Clock tower was harder.
Yes, which is why i said " currently accessible"
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I’m not very good in Jumping puzzles but I’ll try it anyway. Gives me a reason to see if I can get any better in them.
Not a good place to start learning. This is definitely the hardest currently accessible JP in GW2.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I think people would enjoy this game a lot more if they were to process the idea that it’s not just another expansion to Guild Wars 1.
It’s not about it not being like GW1. It’s about the changes i speak against being for the worse. Different is not always better.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
What’s the alternative? You can offer the cosmetics as a straight purchase, but then everyone has them and they’re completely worthless.
This is an example of mindset that is completely alien to me. I just don’t understand how something might look better or worse depending on how many people has it. How? The item in question does not change at all.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
If a build had the best energy management in the game, then the build probably sucked.
Ah yes, that’s why there was so many primary Necro builds…

Unless something changes very significantly there, it will be empty again shortly after the event ends.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
They are “dragging their feet” on this issue, because the very idea behind ascended eq is dragging their feet. It’s a stopgap content that is needed to pad the one year gap that was created by this game shipping much too early.
In other words, they need to stagger ascended eq releases widely enough to cover a whole year.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
You wasted forty days and didn’t even notice that for some reason there were 3 rings with different names, but that had exactly the same stats? That didn’t make you wonder, just a smidge?
You know, he might have noticed that these variants do not, in fact, have the same stats.
Difference between offensive/defensive/utility slots might seem a reason enough to make a different item.
Honestly, both slot variants and Unique restriction were a dumb idea in the first place.

Well, energy based system allow for more finetuning of abilities. If you consider a combo of abilities too strong, you can only increase the cooldown, so that this combo doesn’t occure that often, or change skills in strength/functionality.
With energy you could also just make the combo itself more costly, and spread the bonus energy needed across all skills in the combination. That way each individual skill wouldn’t get alot worse, but the actual combination could become impossible to perform.
And then you introduce energy-management skills, and all the calculations suddenly have to make sense both in default state, and with changed energy regen. Balancing, instead of easier, becomes several times as hard as with cooldowns alone.

IIRC, the hall is in ruins because the game takes place 250 years after the events of GW. Presumably the hall was abandoned shortly after and has been empty (except for ghosts) for some 200+ years.
So, exactly how it was found by the Ebon Guard – it was supposed to be a construction well-predating humanity. It has managed to survive all those years unscatched, just to fell to pieces in the measly 250 years now? I just don’t buy it.
And the damage we can see is wear and tear damage, not an effect of deliberate destruction…
Remember, remember, 15th of November
You can leave Guild Wars 2 for months without getting behind anywhere, that is what makes the game very casual.
Mostly. With the notable exception of ascended gear. It’s that gear (and how it’ll be handled in the future) that will eventually decide whether this game stays casual or moves away from it.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
In the end, the ultimate goal is to ENJOY the game. YOU choose the way how such a goal is achieved for YOURSELF.
Yes, that is true. it ias also true, that in dungeons, MF-wearer’s enjoyment is achieved at the cost of enjoyment of others.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
The problem is that not all players care that much about all that math and efficiency numbers
Those that wear MF gear evidently do care. The whole idea of this gear is about efficiency and numbers. It’s just the efficiency geared purely towards yourself, not your group.
As I said in an earlier post, I have 27% MF on my Warrior-shows you how much I care about my loot drop “efficiency”. :P That percentage is so low it won’t help at all unless heavily boosted by consumables/banners.
I don’t judge people that are wearing a bit of MF because that’s the only exotic/rare piece they have. I do judge people that are running in full-MF sets. They obviously know what they are doing and care a lot about their drop efficiency. They also know well enough how it impacts others – they just dont care about that.

Would you like to Level your alts and give them EXP while playing and enjoying your favorite character class main?
Nope. If i am not playing a class, i will never learn playing that class. Besides, i don’t see a reason to create alts i’m not even bother to play on.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
except that in game all variables are not equal and players are not judged on numbers, therefore to argue that one should be discriminated against because of their not perfect numbers on their gear no matter how good the player itself is just elitist.
They are not discriminated against because of their “not so perfect numbers”. They are being discriminated against because of their selfish attitude in a cooperative game.

I think you should change the title of this thread to “I want World Completion to not be challenging”.
There’s nothing challenging about getting WvW part of world completion. It never was. You either are on the right server, and you get PoI’s/Vistas easily, or you are on a wrong one, and you just don’t get them at all, and have to wait.
I’m deeply shocked and appalled about the general hostility within this part of the community.
I’ll be happy to let this thread die at this point. I got my concern for other players across, got my Staff answer, and opened my eyes a bit about how little I have in common with many fellow WvW players.
Hope to see you on the battlefield.
There has been no hostility, just people showing you the OTHER side of these arguments. Often enough people who do PvE forget that their arguments go both ways. So, don’t try to put all this off as hostility. There’s been no name calling, etc…just showing you how your argument is flawed, and pointing out the flaws and our reasoning.
The flaws, actually, were in the WvW’s side of reasoning. Mainly, in the part where WvW players silently assume that PvE players have any problems agains there being WvW-only way to legendaries.
I, for one, find it entirely reasonable that WvW players should be able to get their own equivalent of “world completion” – an alternative to Gift of Exploration, that can be acquired through purely WvW gameplay.
I don’t see however any WvW players asking for that – what i see is people trying to use an example of poor game design to justify even more of it. Not because it helps them in any way, but because it would hurt others. Which, i’d say, fits well under “general hostility” tag.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
What? It was made FOR the casual players.
Originally, yes. Lot of changes/new content since then is aimed however at everyone but the casuals.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Since day one I was protesting the idea of map completion being tied to WvW. You don’t have to complete PvP areas to get map completion, you don’t even have to complete dungeon areas to get map completion… so why WvW?
Honestly it’d make more sense if you had to complete the points of interests in each dungeon instead of the WvW maps, WvW is a player versus player competitive environment for players who enjoy that kind of thing, if you’re a PvE player you’re forced to PvP to get your map completion.
How’s this then: for a Gift of Exploration, WvW players (those who have WvW map completion and a prerequisite amount of WXP) should not be required to complete a single PVE map.
Agreed. WvW players should be able to get legendaries through pure WvW activity, and PvE players should be able to get legendaries without WvW activity.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
The problem here is that I could get a full set inside of two weeks in WvW, whereas doing the laurel stuff, I’m looking at 6 months. Not what I would call balanced.
Yeah, ascended eq pricing in PvE is way too high, news at eleven.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
And to think that all those ascended eq stat problems would have been solved by making them craftable (as they should’ve been since day 0).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
For me it’s “more different classes, more fun”. There’s no other reason.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I really enjoy the idea of the living story. I am tired of MMOs that add content constantly, but all the old stuff stays the same. The world evolving and changing is exactly what a MMO needs.
Evolving and change is good, but the world needs to grow as well. It doesn’t.
Breathing new life into old content is going to make the game much more enjoyable.
Except they are not doing that. They introduce new content and then remove it.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
The top image is mixed set – shadow/tribal. Lower image is pure tribal, Shadow is accessible by karma and WvW merchants, but tribal is still PvP only.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
1 fractal may take 30 minutes but the group of 3 you have to do or 4 to maximise the rewards takes a lot longer. A very good group may speed run 3 fractals in 30 minutes but it would have to be a lot more than a decent group.
Double the time, then. Even the worst pug should be able to finish fractals in an hour. And it’s not a week and a half, because you can try again at level 20, or go with an alt (and have about one in three chance of having random ascended drop directly from a chest).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
while id much rather have permanent content I think that temporary stuff like the living story ending in the temp dungeon is in my opinion a far sweeter fix than what happened in the karka event it was just terrible.
Karka event was not permanent, but one-time. That’s the opposite direction of what we’re talking about.
Imo there should be a way to access those “temporary” dungeons/missions even after they have passed. Perhaps through some “historian” NPC or “story book” object. Or reactivate scrying pool in HoM – it was a nice feature.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Why did Anet waste developer resources on making a dungeon that will only be available for 2 weeks (April 30 to May 12.)? I don’t understand this.
that’s a good question – i was certain that it will be there for at least a month. The better question at the moment however is – why did they spend so much resources on dungeon that doesn’t even work?
Remember, remember, 15th of November
It isn’t stopped because people could salvage for runes, it’s because people could salvage for ectos/mats and the devs have stated they do not want people to be able to convert karma to gold.
And that’s why they introduced Orrian Boxes… oh wait.

Seems fixed – for anyone that still have some problems, client restart should help.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
When reading through this, I can’t get over this point you seem to be making:
I want to look pretty in my heavy armour, gosh darn-it. Let me look pretty NOW!
I wouldn’t want an “across the board” change to allow those in sPvP to be able to change their armour skins to those of another type, but it would be kinda nice to have an option for PvE only… except WvW will rear it’s big ugly head and bellow "what about meeee". Expanding the town clothes idea would be nice though.
There is an option now in WvW to see “generic” armor on opponents, so that seems to be no longer a problem.

Got scared for a moment here when i looked at the guild panel. Good to know it is a general error and you are already working on it.

The amount of players that flocked to GW2 for PvE is astonishing really. Guild Wars 1 was and was aimed to be one of the top tier E-Sports out there, why would Guild Wars 2 be different?
Because even GW1 ended up as primarily PvE game. And PvP component of GW2 is actually worse than in GW1, so…
