For now it’s a bit weird – it cannot be seen when worn (so it cannot be treated as a skin item), but its stats make it valid only for freshly made characters. I’d like to hear any official thoughts about the intent behind that item.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
This game might actually have the whiniest fanbase in the history of anything. I have never seen another MMO where players felt so entitled to have everything immediately.
You know, there IS a middle ground between “immediately” and “never”.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
OMG everything is behind RNG, ArenaNet sucks!
OMG I have to work to get guaranteed stuff ArenaNet sucks!
Strawman much?
Besides, the “guaranteed” stuff is priced so you won’t get it regerdless of how hard you’ll work, which is what the current complains are about. But of course it doesn’t matter for anyone for whom any complains, no matter how valid, is whining.

Well.. the thing is… Anet promotes a casual gaming experience…
Ascended grind is not a casual gaming experience.
TL;DR. Ascended Rings and Backpacks are fine as they are not time-gated and practical acquisition methods exist for altaholics. Ascended Amulets are questionable in acquisition methods, but managable for altaholics. Ascended Earrings have unreasonable acquisition methods and need a non-time-gated method of acquisition, similiar to Rings or Backpacks, as the current methods of acquisition really penalize altaholics. This is the biggest issue with Ascended Gear acquisition currently.
I generally agree about backpacks and fractal rings (though i’d really like vials being buyable with relics or pristine relics, and i think that their relic/t6 cost is too great). Guild earrings are impossible to get unless you are in a zerg guild (hint: most people aren’t in one). Laurel rings, amulets and accesories might be okay individually, but become completely ridiculous when taken as a whole, due to using the same time-limited currency. One month for an item is okay, if that’s the only item you get. It’s not okay if it’s only one of many, and you cannot work on them in parallel.

I made a profit of around 1g in about 15-20 races last night.
Got bored and went back to other stuff.
Yep, it is possible, like in any game of chance. The math is set to make you lose money in the long run, however. Again, like in any game of chance.
To get the achievement, you have to sink 7.5 gold into it on average. Granted, you might get back most of it (or not…), but still, this and the 100k taffy for wings show a rather worrying trend on the side of developers.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
100.000 * 5c = 500.000c = 50g
They are 60g now so I don’t think they will get any cheaper than this… Which is too bad, I really like these wings. Don’t like the Shattered ones, one bit.i managed to get a pair of wings on the TP for 36g and there was another one for 38g – though it went quick. they’re fluctuating from 33g to 60g. the best thing you can do is keep checking the TP as much as possible. i’m glad i was able to get one, i’m certainly not going to grind for 100k candy.
These are cheaper than 50g now only because they drop in the open world. The one from the merchant is still a joke.

Both chances are abysmally low – but you can easily farm the normal coffers, while you have to buy the rich ones. The choice seems pretty clear to me.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
In fact, the ability to trade is what’s hurting most of the game.
How? It’s not depriving Anet of any money – all those gems still have to be bought with real cash (just by different people).
Remember, gold <→ gem exchange is a trade system that works between players. Neither gems nor gold are generated by game.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
You do realize that your argument is that “I don’t have that much time to get this item, it should be easier to get.”
Apparently you didn’t get the math, so i will explain it to you. At the estimated farming rate of candies, considering that the event runs for a very limited time, then, even if the same item will be accessible next year (which is not certain – lot of GW1 event items changed every year and you couldn’t get them again if you missed it), you won’t ever get the wings. 5-7 years that you said you played gw1 would be still too short.
It’s not “I don’t have that much time to get this item, it should be easier to get.”, but “This item is clearly designed to be impossible to get this way, so it should be changed into something that is possible”.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Not likely, most of it got already removed, and i’m not sure if the things that remained (karka queen) give achievements still.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Medium armor that’s not a trenchcoat? Definitely interested.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
The main cause of concern though is the fear immunity due to fear also being classed as a stun, which makes melandru runes -50% fear duration. (50%+40% = Necro + :< )
Now, if -condition and -stun effects stack, that should likely be considered a bug and fixed. I don’t think that this stacking was intended.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Way too expensive for me. This is one mini game that I won’t touch.
too bad that is one achievement less to acquite for the wings
Remember, remember, 15th of November
they have clarified it in the patch notes. Rich coffers have a rare chance of dropping a ticket (which for anet means “you’ll likely not see one”), while normal coffers have much lower one (“snowball in hell” category).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
…and here goes the hope Anet learned something. RNG boxes again, but this time they made sure you HAVE to pay for them (because i bet the “chance” from dropable coffers is in 1:1000 range or worse).
I guess i will have to pass on those again.

I’m confused, how will GW2 have Raids without a trinity?
Simple, it won’t. They haven’t said they will introduce raids, but “GW2’s answer to raids”, but also unique to this game. Most likely something that fulfills similar game goals without actually being Raids as you would define them.
It’s entirely possible that it will be conceptually completely different from WoW raids.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Warrior armor for females sucked to where 99% of the female character population was wearing elite gladiators, same can be said about elite druids for rangers.
That might have been true for Prophecies, but stopped being true really fast. Look up elite sunspear/kurzick for warriors, elite canthan or norn for rangers.
Agreed of course, that elite gladiator and druid sucked mightily.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Let them have fun with colors. It’s not like it actually hurts anyone. Perhaps even some proper color codes could be added, to avoid dependency on misused item codes.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
There were also shop costumes. Their quality wasn’t constant, but several of those were really good. Augur of Kormir, Vale Wraith, Shining Blade, possibly also White Mantle and Grenth costumes were things i’d actually want to see on my characters here.

Unfortunately, all these people think it works my way… because it does!
Unfortunately, all these people think it works that way. The one person in this thread checked, and found out it doesn’t. When i have to choose between many guesses and beliefs and one hard fact, i’ll always go with facts. Unless, of course, any new facts will show up that will contradict the previous info – which hasn’t happened so far.
In the meantime, you can continue to believe what you want.

It’s too strong because of how the duration is calculated. Say I have +40% cond duration and they have -40%. 1.4 × .6 = .84.
It not only counters it, but then reduces it even more. A fix for how that is calculated would solve the problem… but it’s probably easier to just nerf the food down to where it would just even out.
It hasn’t been proved that it even works that way yet. Everything else uses the unmodified value as a base for modification, so why the -40% should work differently?
That IS how it works.
Example from few posts above seem to contradict this.
Um? Sorry to say that his test was correct.
The test showed that the reduction is to the base duration, not the enhanced one, so the -40% food would simply cancel the +40% one.

And that makes perfect sense since scythes are designed to be used in one single repetitive motion, the amount of ways you can animate them without their wielders anatomy getting in the way is almost zero.
Well, harvesting scythes aren’t a weapon of war, that’s true (not without some adjustments, anyway) – war scythes look much more like naginata than a harvesting tool. Animation IS possible, though, like GW1 has already shown. Yes, it’s not very realistic – but then, for example, GS animation has absolutely nothing to do with real 2h sword usage (especially considering the size and weight of some GS skins).
I fully expect scythes to make a comeback some day.
On topic, though – spears. It’s very surprising that such a basic and common weapon got relegated to pure underwater use. Two-handed axes, crossbows and martial staves might also be nice.

I don’t really understand where the charr got the black citadel from anyway.
I know they started out really tribal and basic, then the humans came in and took over. The charr then turned to war technology and developed fast enough to fight back and have been trying to reclaim their lands in ascalon.
The black citadel looks more early asuran in nature as it is so mechanical and looks like a space ship. Yet the asurans use a more glyphic rock/machine/magic look and come from below the ground.
It just feels like the Charr were bestowed machinery from a third party than something they developed purely on their own.
That’s because most (if not all) hostile charr you encounter in GW1 are flame legion. And those are the magical god worshiping/fearing sort who doesn’t use technology. The Iron Legion (who specialise in war machines) moved in after the Ascolonians fell, resulting in the Black Citadel.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Charr#History
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Charr#HistoryI understand the difference between flame legion, blood legion, ash legion, and iron legion. Still the development from early stages to now is pretty significant in leaps and bounds.
Still, maybe it is me reading into it that I assume the charr did not have advanced technology earlier in development. It just seems through culture and history that they were less advanced and more tribal until now.
Not only that – they were an ancient race (as old as the Forgotten), that was still primitive and tribal at the time of Guild Wars 1. It seems highly unlikely that their sudden technological tendencies and advancements, incredibly fast when compared to their previous history, were natural (and not an effect of some mysterious outside influence).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Anet knows this, even if the people who want them don’t realize it. The items will, and should, remain rare.
or the opposite – they should all become common, so people will stop being fixated on them.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Clipping isn’t the only thing to account for, it may not have all the animations necessary to be put in to use
according to the devs’ info when the armor mechanics were first spoiled, it’s just impossible, because PC and NPC armor is done exactly the same way – it was intended from the very beginning for it to be fully exchangeable.
not to mention other racial equivalents for the Charr and Asura.
This might be possible, though.
Except, so far as I know, it has only been seen on a ranger, so it might not have all (or possibly any) of the of the animations used by the engineer or thief but not by the ranger.
Doesn’t matter. According to that once-given info, the design goal was to completely remove the separation between npc and pc armor that existed in GW1. NPC armor was supposed to fill all the requirements for PC armor right off the bat, without any need to add anything. There are two notable exceptions, of course – that being opposite sex variants, and race variants. So, (if the original information about how this goal was achieved was true, of course), we at least know that a ready-for-PC female human/sylvari/norn medium variant of this armor exists in the game.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Depends. There are also Royal Dragon Coffers, which might have a guaranteed skin drop (the wording does suggest it, but is not 100% clear). These likely will come from the shop.

So people are starting to farm Steampipe now? Ugh…
Not at gandara. Steampipe got bugged – no pops and nests are indestructible. No queen either, of course – that’s for the last 48h.

Submit the ticket to Anet. If you don’t word it in too demanding way, they usually listen.
Of course the unique mechanic should have been dropped long ago, but for now that’s the only thing you can do.
Second if you had equip both of them and become soulbound, upgrade 1 of them >>> in will unbound (if they dont change it).
I don’t think earrings are upgradable yet.

#Rookstarwasrobbed
Now, looking at the picture, i can easily guess why he didn’t win.
Don’t see where the problem is.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
As long as the bulk of the population wants things fast (and your fast isn’t everyone else’s fast, you’re pretty reasonable), MMORPGs will continue to suffer the same fate they’ve had these last five years. It’s the reliance on loot (and again I’m not saying YOUR reliance on loot, I’m talking generally) that has really sunk this genre for many of us.
Ironically, to remove the reliance on loot from the game, you need to make the loot easier to acquire, not harder. You also shouldn’t put into the game things that are labeled as “special”, “ultra-cool”, or “endgame”.
Imagine, how this game would have looked if there were no ascended eq, and no legendaries (current legendaries being reduced to the same status that other expensive exotic forge skins have, with comparable cost).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
There is a reason why its worth more then three times the amount of any other food in the game right now… can you really not see how strong this food is? Please nerf it down to 20% and or more reasonable levels.
As it has been pointed to you many times before in every post you have made about it so far, it’s a matter for the suggestion forum, not this one.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
As far as I know ANet hasn’t said anything about this. I have to assume that they just haven’t added a Mystic Forge recipe for this item yet.
We have assumed the same about ascended amulets and earrings. So far nothing has changed, though.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
The pets may have been given this ability to counter a thief, which is fair enough, but I want the same target following skill for my clones.
Actually, i believe this was the result of the anti-stealth fix for mobs that was introduced some time ago. Yes, it was aimed mostly against thieves.
And clones do have the same capability – the difference lies in the pets higher mobility and the ability to choose targets on their own.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Forgive me for not reading the entire thread, but isnt culling a feature concerning player models? Do npcs get culled (i.e. not displayed intentionally), or is that just a result of the server/pc/internet failing to deal with the high data bursts?
Yes, npc’s also get culled. There is also the matter with latency, i guess – both of those can make ninja stealth assassins out of any mob.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
the problem with all these suggestions is that it ceases to be a rare weapon. If everyone has 100% access to the skins then it’s not a rare weapon anymore, and it looses it’s value.
Since you cannot sell it anyway, it has no monetary value at all. And it still looks as good (or bad) as ever regardless if only one person has it, or everyone does. Neither does it have any prestige value, because it didn’t require any effort on your part, just luck.
So i don’t see any problem with making the skins directly buyable.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I know that the flipside, no DR, leads to inflation which punishes casuals even more. I know that. I’m not saying I have a solution, either. Nonetheless, the OP’s argument is spot on.
The solution is to eliminate (well, lessen. eliminating is likely impossible) the need for grind. If you don’t need to farm hour after hour, day after day, to get the stuff you require, then the fact that you get penalized for longtime farming will not be so much of a problem. If something should take a lot of time (legendaries), make the path to this goal more varied, and throw some obstacles in the way that must be overcome by skill or that are fun on their own. If you are not sure if it will be fun for everyone, make alternate routes.
Do not make “longterm commitment” mean “time gating checks” or “mindnumbingly boring endless repetition of the same easy routine”
Remember, remember, 15th of November
What they should do, is add a warning to that zone before all the karka’s spawn. Have the earth tremble, and the screen shake, with npc’s running for their lives. This would give players a fair chance to flee the outpost.
No, they should never make an event that can completely stop the passage from the eastern to western part of the isle and require you to run around the whole shoreline. Especially since both western waypoints can be blocked (especially the closer one).
What needs to be done (at least one, preferably all four, in the decreasing order of importance):
1. stop the camp devense events when the queen spawns.
2. Add a waypoint to the Scoured Plains camp – without any event that would block it.
3. Add a way around the camp – either to the south (beyond camp walls, on the edge of the cliff) or north (up the geysers)
4. do not make karkas spawn inside the camps. They should spawn outside and run in, as any decent attackers would.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
It’s most likely the hardest currently accessible jumping puzzle in the ga,e, so your problems are completely understandable. The jumps on their own are not that hard, but the time pressure and the fact that any failure means starting from the very beginning can turn completing it into a many-hour experience.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Ditto with settler’s weapons.

So far gotten only rares from queen daily, but exotics from other events did happen to me several times already. RNG happens to all of us.

Inb4 “but you don’t need any of these items”:
I’m sorry, but you don’t get to shut down this argument just because you’ve heard it before.
Well, it’s not like this argument gets any better with constant repeating either. Of course we don’t need them. We don’t need to play either.
It still shows us the devs’ mindset about the game.
And bad gameplay mechanics is still bad gameplay mechanics.
(oh, and ascended stat advantage is anything but negligible)

Did anyone else find this post interesting? I mean the pro-farming statements. All the Anet apologists here on the forums claim that Anet does not want you to farm, they just want you to play the game. In other words if you farm you are playing it wrong. DR itself is described on the wiki as “anti-farm code”. This dev post would appear to suggest that farming is an approved and integral part of the MMO genre both for normal character development and expansion, and certainly for any of the major goals (cf. legendary weapons) in the game.
Because it is. The devs just don’t want you doing it. Only CoF p1 zerkers are allowed.

No, no, you get it all wrong. You get Caladbolg – and then Trahaerne shows up and takes it from you.

Easy to avoid such death: don’t go Geronimo in a swarm of Karka! Also, the screenshot of dead people doesn’t show the full picture: many low lvl players are undergeared to handle the content, they are upleveled to lv80 but their stat, gear, trinket, and traits are far from Lv80s….
Just for your information. It took about 2 seconds for my bunker guardian (lev 80 exotic/ascended gear) to die to enemies i haven’t even seen until after i was dead. I wasn’t even trying to move through the outpost (i know better now than to run through it when queen’s event is going – way better to run from the other side). Instead, i was in the outpost when the event started – and the area turned into a charnelhouse within seconds.

You’ll be replaced by new farmers with lower expectations.
Those new farmers will not come even close in output to the old ones. Everything will not return to as it was before, because orr as it was before no longer exists.
Yes, the price growth will slow down once southsun events will end. The price of southsun t6 mats will go up though. And this way we’ll all end up poorer.
But hey, i guess this is the fun we’re supposed to be having there.
