Spoiler, look away….
Yeah, we know that the dungeon map has problems with scaling and shows things in places that conflict with the original, “outside” map. Hardly a spoiler.
I added dots, many dots.
I didn’t mean your map, but the dungeon map in general. If we were to believe it, then the flying ships pier would be located deep in the air over the water, well beyond the point where the land ends. Most likely the whole complex fits within the mountain that overlooks the way towards Domain of Winds, and doesn’t actually extend into Tengu territory.

TL;DR is that we’re investigating this. It was not an intentional change.
But the ledge removal was, right? Hard to make such a change incidentally.

In case you are confused about the word “Most”, which you quoted for me, http://vlc.polyu.edu.hk/academicwriter/argument/qualifying.htm
Or plainly, knowing and conceding to the point there are some exceptions specifically to avoid generalizing that “all” Ascended items qualify and discourage posts like yours.
I was very generous in my post, listing only the most obvious things. If you were to count ascended eq that should be truly unique, you’d easily find that it’s way below half of all of them. Definitely not most.
And of course there can be more than one “the shiniest shiny”! You are thinking too linear. Not enough angles!

How could you have 2 of the shiniest shiny? Which one is the shiniest?
Best answer.
Most of the ascended stuff is tied directly to a very specific thing in the lore. You can’t have two because two shouldn’t exist.
Bud of the Pale Tree
Mark of the Imperial Guard
Third-Place Medal (in the Divinity Reach Fancy kittenociation contest…)
Petrified Skull Juju
Luxon pendant
Kodan Prayer Beeads
Symbol of the Deceiver
Jade Wind Orb
Archaic Grawl Necklace
Cystalline Band
Vine of the Pale Tree
Barbed Signet
Ettinband
Haling Signet
Purge Signet
Druid Band
Althea’s Ashes (seeing as the original ones were put to rest, this is propably one of the fakes sold in Ascalon for 500 gold)
Golden Relic of Rin
Molten Ore
Fledgling Charm
Fierceshot’s Arrowhead
Plague Idol
Gargoyle Skull
Kurzick bauble
Preserved Red Iris Flower
Armbrace of Truth
Ancient Mursaat Token
Consortium Charm
Moon Shell
…yep, definitely unique, one-of-a-kind. Two of any of those should never exist.

It would be enough to give bosses a short term defiant status after they got CC’ed once. In fact, such a CC defense should be universal (with bosses enjoying a longer, stronger version while players getting only few secs of protection).

There’s also a bug that allows for the fourth Aetherblade spawned (the veteran that disables the holo node and disappears) to be interrupted. If that happens, then the holo gets permanently glitched – it is active, but spawns no aethers nor can be activaded for standard holo enemies.

Those are the only ones we want to keep anyway.
Then you’d actually want to get rid of the JP griefers. They are NOT that kind of people.
Note: managed to finish it today finally, due to low population on all sides. Most people i managed to meet were peaceful and actually helped when they could (apart from one skirmish late in the JP i’m not really sure which side started. Might have been my side, since the enemy skirmishers seemed to ignore me when saw i wasn’t fighting).

I would like to thank Anet for giving me many new targets to kill. This is a great way to introduce people to the fun of WvW!
You really don’t want any new people in WvW, do you?

Just allow players to grab a torch whilst stealthed by the well. There. Problem solved.
And then you die because your torch shows where you are.

Beg to differ, it has devolved into pure gankfest with whole zergs specifically running after the PvE players. I just don’t see any fun in that.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
God what happened to gamers actually enjoying having a challenge?
Oh, it wasn’t challenge the griefers were enjoying, that’s for sure.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
So the fact that this is really hard with no condition removal and in zerker gear doesn’t give any meaning to equipment, skills or traits?
Well, yes. because you don’t need those at all. What you need is to run and jump around. Skills are completely secondary.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
While zerker GS warriors (you now, that original, rarely seen and undervalued build) didn’t really need to change anything.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Crazy thought here, but:
If it was meant to do that, then it failed spectacularly, because the only thing it got WvW people involved in was griefing.
Good job, Anet.

Because HP are there for a reason ONESHOTS makes them useless
Thoughness is there for a reason again ONESHOTS makes them uselessWeird, I have never been oneshoot in this dungeon. Wrong build ?
Depends on a class. My guardian bunker gets oneshot-killed if pulled in front of the big laser wall. Combination of relatively low hps compared to other classes, and toughness doing nothing in this case.
(yes, stability and dodging help a bit, but not being pulled every 5 seconds would help more)
In general, the dungeon isn’t hard per se. It’s tedious, and filled with cheap mechanics that generally completely ignore class skills and concentrate on manual dexterity only. If i liked these types of mechanics, i’d play bullet hell games, not GW.

Actually the easiest approach is to go with 5 BM rangers and just run around while pets kill the golems dead. It requires no thinking, no spatial awareness, no skill, just some time.
(lot of time, since the BM ranger dungeon damage went down hard this patch).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I’d like to see CC be more important in this fight. For example, the cannon phase can exist as is, but the solution should be reflects, push/pulls and interrupts, and not a little game of dance.
Incidentally, Wall of reflection i took for this battle due to both bosses having ranged attacks turned out to be completely useless, as every ranged attack there was unreflectable.

It’s a sideeffect of the culling. for the pattern to work, noone can stand at any of the pressure plates (including those with tears). With a large number of players culling prevents you from seeing that there are indeed some people standing there.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
They support consensual PvP, which isn’t a toxic environment. Consensual PvP is engaged in by people who both agree to it.
If you do not wish to participate in consensual PvP, you don’t go into areas where it takes place. That would include the World vs. World battlefields and the Jumping Puzzles located therein. Shockingly, PvP occurs in PvP zones.
That is usually the case. This time however Anet decided to muddle the distinction, by putting a PvE content, part of a PvE storyline, inside a Pvp zone. Most of the killed people did not wish to participate in any PvP – they were following the PvE living world story. Thus, it stopped being consensual PvP.
It’s a PvP jumping puzzle… you go trough it to do one of two things, to get to the end to contribute to your team’s effort with the rewards (which include siege equipment, for example), or to prevent enemies from contributing to their team’s effort
None of the two is taking place here. It’s either people that are there to get to the cache, which doesn’t contribute to their server at all, or people that want to prevent PvE players from getting achievement – which also doesn’t contribute to their team. In other words, it’s an event completely unrelated to the WvW.
As i have already said here, mixing PvE and PvP content together never ends well. It only serves to increase the division between those two playing styles.

Are casuals allowed to get the same stuff as hardcore people by splitting up their time investments?
Casuals would say “yes, that is how it should be”. Hardcores would say “No, if every casual would be able to get my precious stuff, then everyone would have it and it would become worthless. Only by limiting stuff so that I and only I may get it can we create a truly good game”.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Sure, nerf the shortbow for the rangers. Now, it acts like a shortbow should relatively to the longbow. Before, it was just like a different longbow.
You conveniently seem to overlook the huge nerf to BMs here.
“conveniently”? Not really … see a couple of posts above mine (by ProtoGunner). A BM ranger perfectly ok with the patch.
He’s “okay” since (according to what he wrote) he’s running with berserk longbow build. Yes, this poor quality build didn’t get affected that much

Put a chest in each of the 4 side events and leave the queen reward the same. That would be a good draw. The problem also seems to be the speed required for removing the 4 blocking events and how fast they come back after the queen is killed.
Not only after queen is killed. The attack events seem to spawn as fast (or faster) as you can do one reconquer. That’s why you needs groups to cover all of the camps at once (knowing that two of the groups likely won’t make it for the Queen event, dying instead in Steampipe to huge masses of karka spawns).
Remember, remember, 15th of November

They ar unable to balance it with fun as well. Current Southsun is no fun at all.

Magical focus – a sorcery device used to focus your magical powers. Due to how wide that definition is, the device can come in multitude of shapes and sizes, so it is hard to imagine an “iconic” focus. Especially, since that iconic role is usually fulfilled by staves and scepters (or gw1 wands), which got separated in distinct groups here.

We’re offended with having to deal with PvP in the middle of a PvE content. Mixing those two is never a good idea.
this is anet’s way of telling people to do more PvP.
anet creative team discussion:
“lets put PvE content in PvP area, that will motivate them to PvP!”
“good idea!”
Lol. Frankly, i doubt if there is a better idea to scare people away from ever entering WvW again.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
PvP in a PvP area is not griefing.
PvPing PvE players wanting to do a PvE content is.
And if the game intends you to grief, then it’s a problem with the game (unless it is a game purely for griefers, of course, but GW2 is not one of those).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Anyone seriously offended by people pvp-ing in a pvp zone needs to take a step back and calm down.
We aren’t offended with PvP people PvP-ing ina PvP zone. We’re offended with having to deal with PvP in the middle of a PvE content. Mixing those two is never a good idea.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Learn to play. Learn to find a group. Learn to not have everything served ready. Learn what a challenge is.
Learn not to confuse PvE content with PvP one. Understand, that PvP crowd is a tiny minority in this game.
Understand, that due to some bad matchups (and weirs matchups in WvW due to last changes still happen, the situation has not stabilized yet), some servers may be just plain blocked from accessing this PvE living story content.

There was a bug that allowed you to get both of them on the first month that PvP laurels were introduced, if you had your PvE monthly already done before the patch, but that was an one-time event. You are not supposed to get double laurels if you PvP (*).
(*)Though, in truth, when considering laurel prices of gear, additional ways to get that currency would be a good idea indeed.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
No. “Hard core” and “Casual” players can not co-exist, because each demands the others content be destroyed. It’s as simple as that.
Yes, casual gameplay is not satisfying for hardcores, and hardcore gameplay is definitely not for casuals, but it goes a bit more complicated further on. Casuals can easily existwith or without hardcores – but hardcores would not want to play the game that is made for casuals. On the other hand, hardcores cannot exist alone. They must have casuals in the same game, even when their preferred gameplay is designed to kitten casuals over.

Oh well, at least it won’t be RNG chest “content” which is a very huge improvement already. I just hope that in addition to skins in gemstore (buyable directly) we will get eventually (and rather sooner, than later) new skins permanently added to the PvE (and not hidden behind insane RNG).
I also hope that these aetherblade armor skins will remain in gemstore even after the event.

What’s the problem, if it takes a bit longer to get the best gear? What the hell is the problem? Almost all poeple are complaining, there is nothing to do after hitting 80. Anet introduces a new tier of gear (which I like) and the same poeple are now complaining that it takes too long to get it. BTW, it doesn’t take too long. actually after 1-2 months you are able to have most ascended stuff. That’s really not much for an MMO.
As it has been pointed out many times already, these are not the same people. Most of the original “no endgame” crowd has already left.
BTW, it doesn’t take too long. actually after 1-2 months you are able to have most ascended stuff.
For me it’s closer to 3-4 months. Per one char (i have 8 of them). And not all of the Ascended stuff is out yet.
Do the count.
(it’s not only unrealistically long, it’s also currently long enough that i can reasonably expect that i’ll have to change my build before i complete a gear set.)
The people that complain about ascended gear being too much grind are the casual, loud-mouthed crybaby demographic that travel from game to game, never spending more than a couple weeks playing.
More like the people that asked for the ascended gear with heavy grind were “elyte” loud-mouthed whining demographics that travel from game to game, never satisfied, always leaving soon, because the game is “not hardcore enough” and “lacks proper endgame” (Hint: and no endgame is big enough and hardcore enough for them).
The all-demanding MMO-jumping crowd is not casuals, but hardcore. people that get bored after a month of two, because they already managed to do everything that was to do in a game. They do not invest their time in the game, because they do not care about story or immersion.
They are the content locust. Not casuals. And the ascended gear in this game is also their doing.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Why does everyone automatically assume that this will only be available in the gem store ?
Because that would fit Anet’s current “RNG boxes are cool” policy the best.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I’m sorry, I really really REALLY am, but the whole point the ascended tier was introduced in the first place according to a blog post by ArenaNet on November 2012 was because the community felt exotic items were.. TOO EASY.. to acquire. That there was nothing to do after you got your shiny orange-named suit, cane, and earrings.
The community disagreed on that point with Anet then.
I mean, I’ve heard of people with over 1 million karma, lots of in-game gold to spend on gems, crafting materials, etc. Unless these “ascended upgrade stones” are heavy RNG-based, people will be swimming in them I can guarantee you that.
Good.
Unless these ascended items cost enormous amounts of karma per piece people will be suited up in full ascended items by the end of the day.
Also good
Unless these items require large amounts of fractal relics, laurels, globs of ectoplasm, etc.. it won’t fit your grindless utopia, OP.
…Didn’t you mean “if”, not “unless”? Because “grind” does not equal “grindless”.
“The grind is too much” and “I’m tired of exotic weapons/armor, please give us ascended” just don’t match OP.
Definitely they don’t match. Noone wants both – it’s a pure strawman used by the white knights crowd in the “you got what you wanted so stop whining” arguments.
Please, do not propagate this misconception further.
TL;DR – Unless ascended armor and weapons are obtained through grinding, the people who complained in the first place will do so again until Anet caves in, again.
Since they are mostly no longer playing, it’s not a problem at all.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I would think they’d add the armor items to karma vendors it’s a little odd to be using laurels like this especially since there’s only 1 thing per account to do to get them.
Seeing as how they used laurels to limit purchases through WvW vendors, i sincerely doubt we will ever see ascended eq buyable with karma. They just don’t want us to be able to use the work we have already done.
Considering that ascended are here as a delay measure, unless we somehow manage to change Anet’s mind, they will always remain heavily time-gated.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Wow. This whole thread seems really overcomplicated.
Here’s the short answer for a lot of players:
Players want new skins in the game that they can actively work towards. Not something that they can actively gamble towards with no guarantee of ever getting it. Especially not when it comes to real money.I agree.
Exactly.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
There big question is, as always, what percentage of people are scared away, compared with a small percentage of people that spend stupid money on stuff.
A game can get away with a much smaller playerbase, if people are throwing money at it. So even if people are scared away it may not mean that much. It depends how many people are happy to pay.
Untrue. If there is much smaller playerbase, then even people that would otherwise be okey with blowing wads of cash on rng boxes will start to leave. And most of the people that do blow lot of money on gambling in a cash shop will burn out very fast as well. You need big enough population in the game to attract enough new spenders to balance for those that left, at the very least – and that mean much more than the spenders themselves.
GW1 shop was very succesful, without scaring people away. It would have been possible to duplicate in GW2 – but Anet preferred a quick cash grab to steady longer income.
If they weren’t so rare you’d have rares and exotics selling for 1c above vendor price, as well, and LA would be painted black from all the toons swinging Twilight around.
You are saying as if it was a bad thing.

devs? what is the point of this with individual skills having cooldowns? it just locks me into rotations and encourages spamming.. maybe something friendlier – 4 seconds – I could understand
If there wasn’t weapon swap cooldown, they could have just gave you 10 weapon skills on a 15 slots long skillbar. You are supposed to swap weapons both strategically and tactically, but you are not supposed to swap spam.
Also remember, that the ele equivalent is the attunement swap. Do you really want eles to be able to swap attunements without any significant cooldown?

I just personally bought GW2 today after re-opening trilogies and having some fun with it, but i’m bored of of my mind atm on the download which got to 30%, then my computer bsoded, and now it’s at 50% after starting from 0. I’m currently browsing reddit so i have something to do. What did you guys do when you were waiting for gw2 to download?
Don’t ask. It was during one of the first betas, and the downloader was seriously bugged (didn’t check files CRC, didn’t redownload broken files, dropped link often which caused files to be broken).
I had to redownload the whole game like ten times (without including the times where it cut the download on first 100 megs – and there was likely a hundred of those) before i was able to play with only occasional crashes.
Now, since that problem got fixed, it downloads very fast, so i don’t really have time to do much.
