Astralporing.1957

Edit: ok i have read up on posts from you guys and I’m sorry if it seems like i have confused some of you but you still get all the rewards like BoH, Zenith weapon skins, Radiant Mantle Skin, Hellfire Mantle Skin, boosters and WvW Blue prints, the percentage achevement gain. its just when it comes down to the PvP Reward chest inside the Achevement chest you have a choice of selecting eater PvP or PvE.

Currently you get rewards for both PvE and PvP. In a way, you get a choice, but get both options. If you don’t want one of those options, you can always delete it.

sorry for the miscommunication and a slight misunderstanding i have edit the main post so sorry for the confusion people. what this Discussion is about is a Choice of eater PvP reward chest or a option for PvE reward chest inside the Main Achievement chest, instead of only having a PvP reward Chest.

You get PvE chest as well – it’s the one PvP chest is in.

Can Gw2 players get some HoM Pts?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

The full HoM armor set requires 6 HoM points. You get 5 points just for finishing one campaign, which doesn’t take long (i’d advise Nightfall, for the heroes). If you take your time to do one of the three special missions and get a hero armor drop (one drop is rather easy, it’s later when it gets problematic), it’s your 6th point right there. Or you can buy an elite armor set (Eye of the North ones are the cheapest, but require some grinding for titles to unlock vendors).
Generally, getting the first 10 or so points is relatively easy. After that, it starts getting harder and harder. Getting to 30 (for all unlockable items) requires some time and effort, and lot of GW1 players never get to that point. Getting 50 points (max possible) is something that only few percent of GW1 players have managed. May be even harder now, due to lower game population.

500 AP for GW1 Hall of Monuments Intended?

They don’t seem to know that the leader boards are meaningless, and no one but them really cares. It does not show who the best players are, they simply show who has played the most.

Not even that. Since some modes of play give much less points than others, very active people that concentrate on those will not even show up on the leaderboards.
Incidentally, this includes everything really competitive in this game. So, those “competitive” leaderboards favor people that engage in non-competitive modes of play.

This show the best that the achievement points were never designed for competitive comparison in the first place. Trying to treat them as if they were will always cause problems. Some people just don’t get it, and thus they complain.

My character (as well as I) would always vote for Ellen Kiel.
But I also kinda want the Molten Facility back 100 times more than the Aetherblade retreat.

What to do O_O

For what reasoning?

Aetherblade retreat was a horrid dungeon. One i don’t ever want to show on my fractal random rotation list.

No, it is reskinned for light and medium, but it is still heavy as far as looks are concerned. Considering that all the recent armor pieces we got (Molten gauntlets, horns of the dragon and zephyrite helmets) are also heavy, it does pose some problems for those that wanted a more diverse look.

Static gem cost!

Compared to Runescape’s micro-transaction store, I’de say the Gemstore is an example of price gouging.

Ah, gemstore prices are a separate matter – i do agree they should be reduced at least a bit. Also, so far the variation and quality of stuff in the store is not that good as well.

All of those however do not affect the answer to the OP’s suggestion. Anet does not set Gem prices. We do. I certainly do not want them to try manipulating that (as i don’t believe it would result in anything good).

Bonuses for 50/50 HoM players

in Suggestions

Astralporing.1957

There is no “entitlement” for something that is deserved. In this case, the proper term for it would be a “reward”.

But back to the point at hand. Having the bonus points for HoM is awesome in and of itself. I’m just suggesting that people with maxed out 50/50 could get a little bit extra. This idea is no different than getting your Quartz node for doing 16/16 Bazaar achievements.

We GW1 players already got that extra. It was the ap points buff. Asking for more is plain greedy. Stop this, you are giving all of us a bad reputation.

In my opinion gem cost, if you want to buy it with gold, is too high.

I’m pretty sure that the players that sell their (bought with real cash) gems to you think exactly opposite. I’m afraid you will have to meet somewhere in the middle, because sure as hell Anet’s not going to force people to sell gems to you at prices below what they consider reasonable. Just as it’s not going to force you to buy them if you were to consider the price to be too high.

You want a real analogy with the bicycle race? People performed some race that nobody else cares about several years ago and because of it are being given a head start in a totally different one at present day.

This analogy fails at the most basic points. This is not a race.

Or to be more accurate, the new race was started, and participants of the first race were given an exclusive short cut past a part of the course.

By that analogy (even if it’s completely flawed), those that prepurchased that game got a head start as well, by being able to play earlier than everyone else. And everyone else also didn’t start at the same time. And some people were able to pay directly for some speed boosts (gems to gold conversion), or used some shortcuts that were closed after them (cultural weapon exploit, living story points). And this is not a straight race, but a maze with many paths, and some of them (ironically, the only really competitive ones – PvP and WvW) are much slower than others. For completely arbitrary reasons. And nobody counts your time. And there’s no goal. And the AP’s are glass beads that some people find lying in different parts of the maze. And some people pocket them and go looking for more, because they are so shiny. And they want to get them all, but they never will, because new beads are constantly being thrown into the maze from above. And there’s no judge or rules.

This all says to me that achievement points, outside of the rewards they offer, are now entirely arbitrary in value and so worthless to even compare.

Took you over half a year to realize that? I could see this on the first day of this game. They were always arbitrary and worthless to compare, because the worth of each point is different

Without ability to see the exact makeup of someone’s AP value, any comparison has always been worthless. Glad you realized that now.

Astralporing.1957

Do the math:

  • You can only mine 3 per day(after Zephyr event)
  • You need 25 per day to get a charged crystal
  • 5 charged to make an armor piece

While i generally agree, the situation is a little bit better than you think. This is a rich node – mening that while you can get only 3 harvesting strikes on it, you can get more than one crystal per strike (i got a total of 8 crystals from one full harvesting for example). Also, it seems to have a chance (how high it’s yet unknown) to drop a charged crystal directly.

And, we’ll have an excess of Crystals for a full set by the end of this event. Beyond that we’ll need crystals for…..???? I already have the Ascended Celestial trinkets.

It would be sad if this new resource ended up limited to only one stat set. I hope we will see other uses later on (and that at the same time other ways to get it will be introduced).

If there is, it is a bug. The only differences between harvesting tools should be the max resource tier they can harvest.

Can't find how to get Celestial armor?

in Bazaar of the Four Winds

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

You can get the new Celestial recipes which allows you to craft the celestial armour. It is an armour attribute, so if you were a Tailor for example you would want the Celestial Intricate Gossamer Insignia: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Celestial_Intricate_Gossamer_Insignia

That would then allow you to craft Celestial gear using the Insignia and combining it with the typical components (as in the two pieces you craft and combine with an insignia normally). Alternatively you should be able to buy it on the Trading post.
I’m unsure if the armour uses a unique skin or if it just uses the same skins as the last tier of craftable armours (I would imagine it does that since if it were a new skin it would be a bigger deal).

Few corrections and clarifications:
- It uses the lact craftable tier skin, as other level 80 craftable exotics.
- It can’t be bought off the Trading Post, because it is Account Bound, soulbound on use.
- You need not only insignia recipe, but the specific part recipe as well (i.e. Celestial Exalted Mantle recipe) – discovery does not work for celestial stat gear (which is a shame, it really should. Anet seriously overdid that part).
- it is heavily time-gated, because each insignia/jewel etc uses Charged Quarts Crystals (and you can only make one of those per day).
- additionally, the base material (quartz crystals) you get charged crystals from will only be accessible through one normal node in your instance after the current living story event ends. And that only if you manage to unlock that node by doing current metaachievement.

Personally, the above method, even if annoying, would have been okay for ascended tier gear, but is seriously over the top for exotic quality one.

Great PvPing there.

There is a BIG difference between NEEDING something and WANTING something. Our entire world would be a LOT healthier if more people understood this.

Well, it certainly would look much different, since most of the things we strive for we do not actually need. Also, it would be healther if there weren’t people that take great pains to ensure that other people do not get what they like (and do it not because they need to, but only because they like it).

I know what counts towards the 10 mail limit, I just don’t know if the achievement is only counting if you have an inbox full of mail just from other players, or do the npc (non heart/green star)/bltc emails count?

Since i have been doing this with friends just few moments ago, i’ll share our experience. First: not every mail that counts for limit counts for the hint. For one of my friends, it was necessary to remove all npc-game mails before the hint unlocked. For me it went a bit further – a 10/10 mailbox filled with only pc mail didn’t trigger hint, nor did sending one more mail to me. Only removing the oldest of inbox mails (that was here for some time already – likely over a month) caused the last sent email to appear and hint to unlock.
Might be wise on anet’s side to check the mechanism that triggers it, because it seems inconsistent with normal mail counting behaviour.

Getting a weapon of the mist uses 1500 orichalcum ores and 250 ectos. Assuming you’d gather 20 ori ore per day, you’d also have to invest 75d of gather … just for a single weapon for a single character. Given you want to equip all of them with 2 weapons, it’d take 1200d simply for the orichalcums.

Getting 2 crafted weapons (the same stats – and we’re talking about stats, not looks here) – 10 gold (at worst, likely less). Can do it in one day. Skins for all those chars can take half a year, that’s completely ok.

Not sure where did you get 100 relics per one fractal run as well.

And please … do not say ascended is hard to get.

Nobody is saying they are hard to get. We’re talking about time.

There are many more exotics which are harder to get. Those are soulbound as well. Not even mentioning legendaries …

You read it badly. Forcing OCD completionists to subject themselves to open world PvP won’t make them like it. But having some people that didn’t try PvP yet get a hand at it and find they have fun doing it will.

Which is one of the reason there are achievements in the first place : to gently nudge players to try everything a game has to offer.

Except this is not a gentle nudging. It is not only a sledgehammer approach, but also an attempt to get people used to WvW by presenting the experience from the worst possible side.

It’s trying to make someone learn (and like) to swim by throwing him into piranha-infested rapids.

it’s quite simple to break through people camping the dome.

…not if the campers actually know what they are doing.

Edit: correction. Big enough zerg might actually indeed manage that. It would require a truly massive advantage though – the odds are worse than frontally storming a well-defended keep without any siege engines of your own.

What disadvantages might bring to a player to go on low population server?

Low population in general means low population on maps as well. Low populations on maps means less people to help if you run into problems, less people to do bigger dynamic events with. Being alone on a map can be really depressing as well – and on some servers there are whole regions that are completely devoid of any players. Players are what makest the game alive.

Barring some living story badly designed accidents (holo projestors, i am looking at you) you don’t have to fight with others for “resources” (whether crafting mats, drops, or xp), so “too much players” is not something that you’d usually be thinking anyway.

What do you think about going on Gandara?

War was definitely the easiest. Guardian might have been equally easy, but it was my second char, and i wasn’t then fully used to the game yet. Ranger (my first char) was a bit dfficult at the beginning, but turned out okay later on. The last of the four “easy” professions would be necro.
Mesmer was extremely hard at the beginning, and took a lot of effort until i learned to adapt my playing style to that profession’s strength and weaknesses. After that, it became much easier, though. Engi is generally weak, and sometimes doing the simplest things is hard, but playing him is great fun. Running around burning everything in my path with flamethrower, or raining grenade death on surroundings can be a wonderful stress reliever.
At the bottom of the pile are ele and Thief. Especially ele was an undisputed pain in the posterior the whole way up to 80.

Would you tell someone that joined now, that to remain competitive he’d need to go back in time, because otherwise he’ll never be able to overcome older players’ advantage? Don’t you realize how absurd that is?

No, i’m not telling you to do either. I’m telling you that ap’s are not the way to be competitive in GW2. Even if it was a competitive game, which (except for pvp, which has a separate leaderboard list, not based on achievements) it simply isn’t.

Guild Wars achievements should not affect Guild Wars 2 highscores, period. No highscore should be dictated by a different game even if the story-lines are similar. This is Guild Wars 2 and we deserve a fair highscore system that shows peoples achievements in Guild Wars 2, not other games.

Too bad that the GW2 achievement point system is neither a fair highscore nor really showing their achievements. Perhaps if we’ve had a better system you might have a point. All this system allows us to compare is the points itself, which doesn’t tell us much. HoM doesn’t change that.

The other part of my post talks about how no one is complaining about the fact that people who got the temp event achievements will always be ahead if others didn’t get them.

Which is simply not true. They just do it in other topics. Just as there was a massive complaining about dailies (much, much bigger than the one about HoM).

If the GW1 achievement points didn’t count to the leaderboard it would solve everything.

On the contrary, it would solve nothing. A complete rebuild of an achievement point system into something that could be considered a real rating would be necessary. The complains about the leaderboard system started welll before HoM points change.

9000 to get the helmets…ridiculous

I bet boots will be at 12k, pants at 15k and chest piece at 18k. Be afraid.

Survey: Do you want Zenith / Radiant Tokens?

Yes, definitely. In fact, one of the points that worry me a bit is that i might decide on one kind of gauntlets, shoulderpads and helmets, only to see that the later parts (once they are done) are better in the other version.
Imo, they should either unlock both (instead of having us to choose), or allow some way for going for the alternate set later on. Token would not solve that problem, but at least would delay that decision until it can be a bit more informed.

Radiant/Hellfire skins, allow us to choose

Well if it’s such a high requirement for one set (9k?!!?) it’s going to be even worse getting both sets, probably would need around 15k or something..

Most likely at 12k you will get boots, then pants at 15k and finally chest at 18k. And perhaps then they’ll let you get the other set.

500 AP for GW1 Hall of Monuments Intended?

This is way too depressing to read.
Anet is giving free AP to players who did nothing to earn them in GW2.
This alienates any new players.

Untrue. As far as achievement points go, new players are “alienated” simply by being behind and never being able to catch up unless those before them stop running. And it’s not due to the HoM points, but dailies, monthlies and no longer accessible living story content.
Except of course it doesn’t alienate them in any way.

Earning Achieving Point for actually Playing GW2 is not in the same boat as getting them from an outside source!

For someone that has started playing later, both HoM and old living story content are things he won’t find in the game. The difference? HoM he can actually do still. Living story is inaccessible for him forever.

Good for you… I have invested a lot of time playing Tetris… should i also be rewarded in that manner?

Was that the game developed by the same company? Did the money you invested in it go into GW2 development? Was tetris community actively supporting and advertising for GW2? No? I thought so.

So by your logic, ArenaNet should have said in the game:
“- Atention: to actually be able to achieve the top points in the leaderboards, you actually have to buy a different game”. Otherwise is a complete false advertising.

Well, they didn’t say that all your ap’s will be acquirable only from gw2. On the other hand, they said that there will be ties between GW1 and GW2, and that GW1 players will get rewards in GW2. Which they did. No false advertising there.

Whatever you do in GW2 you may not be the nº1!

Whatever you do in GW2, if you started late you will never make it to the top of Leaderboards, unless the players there stop playing" has always been true. Leaderboards have never been fair. Or really competitive (see below).

This way the GW1 vets are able to get a little further progress on these relatively trivial AP rewards but the leaderboards remain “competitive” for those that take them seriously

…sorry, they were never seriously competitive in the first place. they have always been “first come, first serve”, and the arbitrary ap values on different achievements have made any comparison moot from the very beginning (just try to compare 200 points from JP’s with 200 points from WvW achieves…).

ANet had the brilliant idea to launch the new product with a link to the old one so their existing customers would most likely transition over to the new product, making the new product much more likely a success, yes.

Not most likely. Without GW1 players GW2 would have flopped even before going live, or at best suffered Aion’s fate (that’s the most optimistic version, mind you). Assuming it would have even been attempted – most likely that project would never have started. It would have been too risky to launch such a big and ambitious project without having support in an already existing immense community many of other MMO’s would envy.
And, of course, there wouldn’t have been enough money for this – remember, GW1 was a much, much smaller game as far as initial investment was concerned.

TL/DR: yes, without GW1 there wouldn’t have been GW2.

And ironically, most of those top leaderboard players that some people seem to defend so zealously, looking at their points were GW1 players with full or almost full HoM. They were already at the top.

Look at the line just above “soulbound on use” in that pictures.

Me too, I select greatsword, but system give me hammer…
Although that is first one i “preview” it, but idk where I haven’t cancel it…

When you previewed it,you automatically selected it. Most likely you didn’t watch too closely and didn’t change that selection later. Happens. I was very, very careful, doublechecked and previewed what i wanted to get before clicking “accept”.
