please explain? I chose my first skin on the wrong character and I can either wait for the next AP chest that lets me choose a skin or I can “loot an infinite amount.”
No, you can just get a second skin from your achievements panel right away. Or two. Or twenty. You chose your skin for the whole account, and then can generate it in infinite quantities on any character on that account.
In example: the first skin i got, i turned into PvP one and sent to collection pane. Then i generated another for my guardian and applied it to a GS. If i had wanted to, i could create more of them right away, for each of my alts.

its not bad, its optional. some builds excel on this stat combination.
Some builds can use this combination. i don’t think there’s even one that excels on it.

JP is a pvp zone. Enter at your own risk.
Yes, i know. That’s the problem, isn’t it?
Just enjoyed the fights.
I didn’t. I wasn’t there for the fights after all.
It isnt griefing.
What i have seen there? Most definitely is.
You want those badges?
Nope, have a truckload of them already, from the normal WvW activity i do from time to time.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
They know perfectly well what they are doing. They have that map, completely unique in itself since it’s a pure PvP roaming map at the core, they need to put rewards inside to attract people and make use of it but not something too rewarding so that you don’t really need it.
The rewards should be tailored then for the WvW part of the game, not for the PvE one.
So they put something desirable but optional in it, say, and achievement. And it works, there’s life in the map at last and it’s some fun PvP and it’s still optional.
“Fun” PvP is only being had by the campers in there. Not by people that got there drawn by Anet’s bait. And once living story ends, not only all that people will leave the map, but they will do that in order to never return. Because, due to Anet’s genius, that map for them will be tied only to negative memories.
In short, this doesn’t actually change anything for WvW longterm, it doesn’t draw any new players to WvW, it makes some players who might have otherwise eventually make their way ino WvW lose their interest completely, and makes a large part of the PvE community hate PvP-ers. Which results in a net loss.
The only solution for that QQ problem is to not put anything of value inside at all, ie abandoning the map and the concept. They might as well close the place in fact.
No, the only solution is to aim the rewards at the WvW community, not at the PvE one.
In fact, they could have made a whole tab of Sanctum JP-specific PvP achievements. They didn’t. They decided to tie that one to both the living story, and to the kite finding meta where all other achievements are purely PvE.
This is exactly like one of the examples given somewhere above – getting some WvW element, and putting it behind a PvE one (in the mentioned case hiding all normal arrow cart blueprints behind Arah explorable). If Anet decided to do something like that, whole WvW community would have been out for their blood.
A bad design, plain and simple. Even if some griefers like it.

You don’t need to go to the end. Only 90% :P
Also: I don’t like the fractals… and I heard the fractal is not one of the easier ones for a random just do to the 1st time?
Oh, that one is easy, because the kite is in the early part of the fractals. You don’t even need to be able to finish it.
It’s not necessarily that they don’t learn. I still hold that they didn’t have enough time to properly redesign the placement of that kite. I prefer that to thinking of them as completely ignorant of what goes on in the JP.
Dev statements seem to suggest that they not only do know what’s going on, but that they approve.
I honestly do not understand this.

Tell me how them getting another box hurts you… I will wait.
HINT: It doesn’t
AP boxes give you Gold, Laurels, and Account boost, it will put some way above others
Hint: it still won’t take anything from you. A good CoF run will put others “above you” to a much bigger degree. First karka event chest dropping precursors was thousand times more significant.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I don’t really see what’s unfair about this. You are more than welcome to go play GW1 and get those points. They are still available for you to earn if you want to compete.
I think the point is that it’s a whole different game. Presumably people were already rewarded in GW1 for their achievements there – why do they need to be rewarded twice, and in a whole different game to boot?
Because that was the whole point of Hall of Monuments in GW1. It was supposed to give bennies in GW2 (not gw1) – these two things were tied together from the very beginning. HoM was supposed to be a bridge between first and second GW game, helping people to move over, and placating everyone disappointed that GW2 announcement meant in practice the end of GW1 development.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Just thought i would also add, don’t you think your thinking is a bit linear for a jumping puzzle? You assume i can’t condi cleanse, restealth, shadowstep, shadow refuge, roll for intiative, withdraw if i was caught by a trap?
There are several places where you literally can’t. There’s no way that stealth will allow you to get up a defended arena, for example. Not if the opponents are paying even a sliver of attention to the game.
I got a feeling I am going to have to skip this live story again…
Depends on a server and time. When i was there we managed to organize a whole portal chain to get people to the kite, that was operating for quite a while until eventually we got shut down by a bigger zerg. At the high point we had 5 mesmers putting up portals almost constantly. I’m certain that such “events” are organized in most servers out there. Check every now and then, perhaps you will happen upon some helpful mesmers.
If you won’t have such luck, try to go early in the morning, when there are not so many people inside. Go on a mesmer if you can manage it (barring that, thief is also good, due to stealth). Get as much friends to come with you as possible (avoid going in alone uless there’s really no other choice). If it’s possible, ask them to go as mesmers as well (being able to pull someone up after a messed up jump will speed up the puzzle considerably. Mass invis and other stealth skills are a bonus as well). Again, thieves make a decent backup. Teleportation gun may help as well.
The puzzle is definitely doable. Doesn’t make the situation any less irritating, though.
That’s like removing arrow cart blueprints and only making them available by doing Arah path 4. Wrong target audience
That’s a wonderful idea! This will definitely help to bridge the two communities! It should be implemented at once! And better yet, don’t stop at arow carts but do that with every siege engine blueprints.

Like someone suggested, just add checkpoints which if you don’t clear the checkpoints, the players won’t be able to open the chest.
If you do add checkpoints (which definitely wouldn’t be a good idea for at least some of the jp’s – Obsidian Sanctum, i’m looking at you there), add also the ability to return to last cleared checkpoint after a failed jump (like in Spekk’s or Goemm’s)

Some people just get the most of their enjoyment from denying fun to others.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I would first like to thank Anet for providing us GW1 players with the nice bonus to our HoM achievements. It was stated by Anet that our GW2 characters would share in the glory of our GW1 ancestors, so this change is a welcome sight.
But I would discuss a possible bonus for those who actually maxed out our HoM. Getting 50/50 is a feat that took many many years, and getting a bonus for that in GW2 would be outstanding. I think an additional 500 achievement points for players with 50/50 could be acceptable.
No, thank you. It was a nice gesture on Anet’s part to increase the AP’s for the HoM achievements, but actually asking for more would be just greedy.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Oh and I bet many, who never played GW1, paid more real life money in GW2 than those who did.
Be careful, you might get surprised. Former GW1 players were for the most part the most dedicated core of GW2 players. There’s a reason why most of people in top 1000 got that ap boost.
Besides, blowing a wad of cash on RNG boxes and then ragequitting due to (predictably) not getting a ticket doesn’t really mean anything.

ITT: People who have no idea what griefing is, versus PvP mechanics.
ITT: People that do not understand that PvPers can be griefers too.
While I agree with the sentiment that this is WvW and if you don’t want to fight don’t come here, getting their rears handed to them by ‘griefers’ is in no way shape or form going to encourage anyone to stick around and play WvW. Just the opposite I think.
There is definitely some amount of truth to that, but I’d hesitate to say that much of what is going on in the JP is griefing, it is more that people unused to WvW are coming into a much deadlier map than they are accustomed to. That is the risk you take.
Do not hesistate to state that. Much of what’s going on there now is griefing, pure and simple. Most of the campers aren’t there with intention to PvP, but only to feed off PvErs.
If it wasn’t a honest mistake in trying to advertise WvW to the wider masses, but Anet actively supports this kind of behaviour, then i have lost a lot of respect for you guys.

I love these comments. Especially the ones about the races and not granting the whiners the satisfaction of getting a free achievement.
All in all, it does bother me slightly that people do content like this and I’m sure I’ll at one point just put it past me and let them play the game how they want to play it…
But lets be honest… If you ignore a problem because it’s too much of a hassle to fix, you’re basically giving them a free pass.
And? What’s wrong with it? It’s neither bug nor exploit. Some people find fun in other things than you do. As long as this does not directly affect you (and it doesn’t – you can still play the game the way you want), why are you so eager to deny other people their enjoyment?
Also, do not forget that this is not the only JP in existence. At the start of the event me and my friends have spent around an hour porting people to the cache in Obsidian Sanctum, letting them avoid the griefers camping in the middle. I would not want to be denied that option, and i would not want the people i have ported to be denied that option, simply because this happens to disagree with the way you think this game shoud be played.
Of course, if someone demanded a portal from me, i’d have dropped the other end in the middle of the enemy zerg.

Based on difficulty these should be worth 100pts each, not just a measly 50.
Lol, if we compare the HoM points difficulty to other achievements in GW2, it’s more like 500 each
Remember, remember, 15th of November
and 50 points are a bad joke…
i mean 5 points are ok, but how can people get that points?
By working really, really hard. Harder than 95% of other GW2 achieves together.

Why do they punish WvW players by “forcing” us to do PvE?
Lol, nice.
Is the JP actually part of a WvW achievement too? In which case I can see why it’s there.
No, it’s not, as far as i know.
Why do they punish WvW players by “forcing” us to do PvE?
I agree, that jp that WvW players have to do before getting their badges is a bad design, and should be removed to PvE so that WvW players are not forced to do it.

they increased living story achievement points as well.
Also, which “exploitable” achievements?
Remember, remember, 15th of November
…to get you excited about WvW?
It would have to be a way less competitive.
Yep, you can consider it to be a joke – i do WvW from time to time and generally like it – just not too often, and only when i want to. On the other hand, it’s quite serious, because thats one of the main points of PvP/PvE split. Some people just dislike competing directly against other people. And nothing you do will be able to change that.
I think most PvE players tend to have this feeling of safety when they play. Meaning they are in control of what is happening. They choose who to fight, how to fight, and can do it in a leisurely way. It is a safe environment for them to have fun in.
With PvP (any kind really), there is no safety net for them. It won’t be on their terms and they have to react fast unlike in PvE. Someone could simply come up behind them and kill them within a few hits. Which frustrates some PvE players as they are not in control of their “game”. They want to do fights on their terms and the way they choose to. They don’t want to be forced into fights that they are not ready for or have no chance of surviving.
This also sums it up pretty good.

PvP dailies done every day do help a lot. You don’t have to be any good at pvp to get them, though.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
At least those people can effectively say, they have been playing GUILD WARS 2, and not some other game.
Everyone on leaderboards can say that. Noone that didn’t put a lot of effort in GW2 can get anywhere close to the top 1000.
And for the new players it means exactly nothing – they still won’t be able to catch up.
Also, looking at the number changes, i’d say that only a minority of the top leaderboard players didn’t have HoM achievements to at least some degree. Most likely because of the advantage those that played from launchhave (and a very large percentage of headstart players came from gw1. And a lot of those not from gw1 were the locust that have left long ago).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
(edited by Astralporing.1957)
I meant also removing them from “old dailies” – like capping them at 0(where they capped Agent of Entropy at some 200 or 250? and then removed everything higher than that).
I guess you’d have to remove all the living story achievements as well. No new players will ever be able to get them, after all.
And then you will end with a number of players sharing the first place on the leaderboards, due to maxing their achievements (and no new ones being available).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
(edited by Astralporing.1957)
From here:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/AchievementTotal Count = 481 (including daily, monthly)
PvE = 428/481 = 88.98%
PvP = 37/481 = 7.69%
WvW = 16/481 = 3.33%
It’s far worse for WvW, due to the insane requirements for WvW achievements. At this rate most of purely WvW players will end up with achievements consisting of 90%+ dailies and monthlies.
WvW really needs their already existing achievements recalculated (both for achievement points, and equirements), as well as new achievements (including new daily/monthly cathegories) added.
It will still be behind PvE, of course (this is mainly a PvE game, after all), but the point ratio could use a bit of rebalancing.

We need a bit of unity and we need design decisions that foster unity.
That i can agree on. I just consider the dissent about HoM points to be a minor one (the argument about achievement points for dailies was much bigger, for example, and in it’s root is about the same thing).
I begin to wonder if such decisions even exist.
That, unfortunately, too. I’m afraid that ultimately Anet will have to decide what people this game is going to be designed for. Trying to satisfy everyone will not work, because the game managed to draw people from very different groups, whose needs are so different, that they often contradict.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
To me communities make games..and this particular community is divided enough. Are those points so significant that it’s worth the fall out?
Not in my opinion.
Ah, you see now my point about ascended eq. Except, of course, the fallout about HoM is nothing compared to the November 15th debacle and it has truly divided the community, and to a far, far greater degree. With a much more serious impact on the game itself (which is not hard, because HoM points have exactly zero impact on the game as it is).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Really, please… It’s an example. In no ranked game in the world (well, I don’t know them all ofc) you get ranking points for anything you did in previous releases. It does not matter if it’s PvP or PvE, MMO or FPS.
You got those points from the day one. Nothing has really changed.
And i wouldn’t call GW2 a ranked game. It has a ranking, but it has never been a major point. Except perhaps in PvP, but those rankings, as i said, weren’t affected.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Colin was making a list of things we will see in the future:
-Permanent content
-Recurring content
-More world impacting releasesThat was stated several times already. So far, it has always been followed by a mostly temporal content. Actions, not words.
You do realise that content is not create in a day right? they stated that what? 2 months ago? it takes 2 months just to finish the backlog of stuff they were working on and probably another 2 months to finish the new content they’d start working on. So its still too early to say they’re all talk and no actions.
Oh, i wasn’t talking purely about this. Anet in general promises a lot, but delivers much less (and often in a form that while true to the letter of the promise, tends to break its spirit)
Remember, remember, 15th of November
If Guild Wars 1 fans weren’t getting enough for being Guild Wars 1 fans, you’d think there’d be some heavy debate about it before this on these forums.
There was a lot of debates about Anet abandoning the GW1 community that allowed the game to be even made. I for one i am glad that at least to some degree they still remember (even if not in the most important cases).
Well I’m at 356 on the Leaderboards now and I had been over 500. It seems like a very big jump for me considering that the work I did to get this was all done years ago.
Untrue. If all that work has been done years ago, you would not make neither rank 356, nor 500, nor any significant number of achievement points. You don’t get 9k points for nothing.
And remember, that the whole argument is only about those who already had enough points to be on numbered places or very close. About people that put a lot of effort in this game.
And as far as Anet making changes nobody asked them about, i find it ironic that usually you’re the one that defends them and me that attacks them.
Is it because this time far less people are concerned with this change than usual?
Remember, remember, 15th of November

Whatever FPS game you played, did other team start with point advantage just cos they played previous release? No. You getting a picture now?
It’s a good thing, then, that the PvP rankings were in no way affected by the HoM (and living story) PvE achievement points change.
And that GW2 is not an FPS game.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
How was it supposed to be “more rewarding”. They told you exactly what you got and you worked for those things. It’s EXACTLY as rewarding as it was supposed to be.
HoM calculator appeared very, very late. Even then, most info suggested that the armor and weapons listed on it would not be just skins, but top tier eq (no better than anything you could get in game, and thus offering no advantage). HoM was supposed to be a big location in GW2, with instance similar to gw1, that would allow you to show off your gw1 accomplishments to friends. In fact, i distinctly remember one of devs mentioning that reaching HoM would be a major point of personal story in GW2.
And of course original concepts for HoM, way before calculator, suggested even more.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Ok once again. Less than I’d say 10% of all GW1 players even got 50/50.
Make that less than 10% for 30/50. 50/50 is definitely way less than 1%. Lot of whose are no longer playing GW2. And lot of the remaining ones do not have enough GW2 achievement points to end up in numbered places on Leaderboards anyway.
And if they are high on leaderboards, it’s because they worked very hard for it, and definitely deserved it.
If there’s a problem anywhere, it’s in Leaderboards, not in HoM. And in mentality of some people.
By the way – from what i have seen, some of the living story achievements got bumped as well. They can’t be done anymore. And yet i see noone raising hell about it.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I wouldn’t mind seeing them gone…but then some people like them. I don’t really see the purpose of dailies and HoM rewards are counted though.
And exactly due to discussions like that Leaderboards should be removed. As long as they exist people will agrue over whether some achievements should be worth more or less than others (with opinions usually depending on whose achievements the each arguing person posess).
Remember, remember, 15th of November
HoM was just a way to easily follow game progression in GW1 but people started looking at it as something which was supposed to guarantee them a better start in GW2.
Perhaps because it was advertised as exactly that from the day one. Remember, the information about HoM was given at the same time that GW2 was announced. In fact, HoM was supposed to be much more important in GW2 that it is now.
Also
If Anet gave me the choice, I’d disable my HoM points, because it’s not something worth dividing the community over.
If anet gave me a choice, I’d disable the Leaderboards, because they are not something worth dividing the community over. And we’ve seen people arguing about achievement points long before HoM points change.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
You’re kinda right, actually. It was my understanding that you could no longer accrue HoM rewards unless you bought EotN before GW2 release, but if it’s still possible then implement a cutoff preventing any new HoMs being started. Problem solved. You will no longer have to worry about paying for APs.
You don’t have to worry about paying for APs anyway. 50 HoM points would mean several years of GW1 play. Lot of time spent in GW1 that wouldn’t be spent in GW2. It is much, much easier to get those points in GW2.
And if someone buys gw1, does the HoM unlocks, and yet has a time to go for every possible achievement in GW2? You will never catch up to such person anyway.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
After falling numerous times trying to get past the Wind Adept I have to agree.
Oh, that’s the best one. Use the skill number 3 (Lightning aspect) there, not the wind one. Using the aspect they expect you to use almost guarantees death due to the “no forward movement if you are to fast at the keys, not enough forward movement if you are too slow at the keys” bug of the wind aspect skill.

You can argue that you get more stat points overall, because you aren’t as specialized as someone else by using Celestial gear, but I don’t see any reason why Celestial gear should have more or even the same amount of Critical Damage than Berserker’s gear and a maximum amount of Magic Find in addition to that.
This is indeed strange, though at least in the case of crit damage is of no big consequence (higher crit damage is meaningless with severely reduced power and crit chance). High MF value, though, is a problem, as it makes celestial gear an ideal MF set – better than the already existing specialized MF sets. Which is ridiculous.

We all got 3 random boosters, 1 random copper gathering tool, 1 leather bag, 1 gold, 1 laurel and 1 sip of liquids. Fixed
Mine had two boosters, a full set of copper gathering tools (that i have scrapped right away), a revive orb and repair cannister (in addition to the leather bag, gold, laurel and liquid).
thank you but i don t understand…
We get a chest every 500 ( ihave 5600) achievements…

Did we have another chest <500 or something changed?
There’s an additional chest for 100 achieves. That’s what we got.

Even if they do nothing to change this (seeing as the event is ending this weekend), I’d really like to know what anet has taken away from this thread – if they agree that at least the way that these wvw and pve achievements were merged did not work out.
Now we know. They don’t care.

So tell me when can I expect to have a way to complete the meta achievements through PvP if all I want is the skin of it? Until the day I do you PvE’rs can just keep quiet n endure the fact that I’ll enjoy killing every single one of you as you struggle in Obsidian Sanctum. ^^
Ah yes. Since you can’t have it, instead of asking about ways it might be available throughout PvP avenues as well, you’d rather deny it to others. Perfectly logical.
I guess for you noone having good stuff is a preferable solution to everyone having it.
I hope that in future Anet will do everything possible to remove such kind of players from this game.

I don’t understand why they would bother to create a whole new area for it to only be temporary or “sealed off” … I mean, it’s still there – they aren’t deleting it. So why not let us have access to it? This isn’t particularly a complaint, just I am genuinely interested in the answer because I don’t understand it.
I bet it’s because they want to restrict access to crystal nodes only to personal instance ones (and TP).

The problem is, ProphetOmega, the way things are set up, if you don’t look up a guide you risk missing out on your literal window of opportunity to get the rewards / achievements of any given release.
Attack then the way things are set up, that force you to use those guides. Do not attack previews themselves.
Unless of course you think that people should lose those opportunities due to not being informed enough.

Well, now that with the update landing today we can craft ascended gear (or at least gear with the same stats even if it looks different)
Can we? Celestial stat gear we get seems to be exotic tier, not ascended. Armor equivalent to karka shell accessory. Ascended tier celestial eq will be stronger.
