The more i hear about this new Bazaar thingie, the less excited i am.
Achievement rewards seem cool, but everything else seem like Anet is making a hard effort to not learn anything on their previous mistakes.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
I just watched the twitch stream, how ON EARTH COULD THEY MAKE ALL THAT AND THE NEW RACE and make it like last for like what, a month?
Becaue they have learned that we’d like our new content more permanent than temporal. They even said so lately.
Yeah, no logic there.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Simply pointing out that objectively, getting less achievement points have far less significant consequences when compared to not eating or not breathing. Hence (my original point) the comparison of “Getting achievement points in GW2” to "Breathing is optional is quite silly.
Nobody said anything about breathing being optional, so please don’t strawman. Now, everything above the basic needs is a luxury, and optional. Consequences of not getting “optional content” (like warm weather, electricity or basic education) in real life are lowering your quality of life. Consequences of being unable to get achievement points due to a bad design decision lowers your “quality of life” in the game.
“It’s optional” is not an argument. It still makes the game less fun.
After all, if PvP/WvW itself was completely broken, an argument that “it’s optional” would not satisfy anyone.

(edited by Astralporing.1957)
That’s true, but if you think about it, playing the game is optional entirely.
I’m not sure if you really read my post or not, but the consequences of not playing the game is far more significant than the consequences of not getting 15 achievement points.
Why? I don’t see any difference there. There are no real consequences for not playing the game after all.
Playing game A instead of game B is no different as an option than the difference between playing content C or D in game B. Both choices are equally (in)significant.
I’d like to point also, than in this specific case the fun of griefers is based solely on the unhappiness of PvE participants. This is a very bad design.

How does the backlog work, it seems to be similar to the WvW world xp chests but does this mean I have to wait for each 500 point to get a backlog chest? Do I get the first one when I log in after the patch hits or have to wait until I reach the next 500 milestone?
From what dulfy says you get one chest every day till you get everything, regardless whether you got new achievement points or not.

Any upgrades made on a server stay on a server. On the other hand they won’t get wiped – any of your guild members that decide to stay on the old server (or go bact there in future) will be still able to use it.
In the specific case of “personal storage” kind of guild – no, you will lose access to the bank and will need to spend influence and unlock it on the new server again.

What’s remarkable about Anet’s intransigence on this is that not only does it kitten off/annoy about 99% of PvE players, from what’ I’ve read, even a healthy portion of the PvP crowd don’t think this is appropriate.
Maybe they had already made the content by the time they started hearing the feedback? I really hope that’s it, because I don’t want to believe them so deaf to the pleas of everyone that thinks it’s just plain wrong.
Unfortunately, that would be very typical of Anet. Sometimes they just get stubborn and refuse to admit that one of their ideas might have not been that well thought out – even when faced with a major player discontent(*). It’s entirely possible that this case is exactly what it seems – Anet hearing people criticizing their choices, and deciding to enforce more of those on people just to make their point and showing they disagree.
(* ) Of course, sometimes as a developer you just need to make unpopular but necessary choices – i am specificaly not talking about such situations.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
It’s okay in this one case, since celestial stats are subpar to any specialized ones anyway. It’s not okay though if Anet starts using this approach for everything else now.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
It isn’t but it is catered towards the WvW players since its in a familiar territory for them and just unlike the other 99% achievements in the open world.
It caters to the WvW players, all right, but not the way you say. It’s there to give WvW players free targets.
And here i thought that Anet actually learned something after aetherblade obsidian cache…
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Guardians and eles always have access to condition damage, they have plenty of access to extra healing which makes the toughness + healing combo good, they have low HP pool which makes extra points in vitality more meaningful, and they have decent access to extra critical chance from other sources (fury, traits, etc) to make great use of the gear’s critical damage.
The guardians indeed can make use of all stats in one build, but usually any build you could make would benefit far more from speccing into 3-4 stats. You don’t want to be average at everything. It’s much more beneficial to be good at few things.
For any class celestial gear is a step down from other options. That saying, eles and guardians would likely be able to make most use of it. Just not enough to make it worthwhile.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
If you want to find a harder and more unforgiving one then obsidian sanctum is sitting right there in eternal battlegrounds for you. You find a group of enemies you’ll have to redo the entire thing.
Apart from the WvW thing, Obsidian is a way better jumping puzzle than the Aetherblade one. It is indeed hard, but divided into stages. It’s really hard to die in those (again, not counting WvW), and failure only resets you to the beginning of a stage.
Aetherblade JP is both much harder in jumps required, and any failure either kills you or drops you to the very beginning. Add to that several buggy mechanisms (like the rotating springs sometimes sending you at downward angle, or in the wrong direction), camera problems, terrain glitches and the goggles blind jump of faith with no visual guidelines, and you get a jp that is at the same time at best meager, and incredibly irritating.

Play only on the wekends? No matter how good a player you might otherwise be, forget about ever gathering enough laurels for anything (single amulet – 15 weeks).
Less than four months? It may seem like forever when your 16, but it’s a semester of college – just a fraction of the time it takes to get a bachelor’s degree. Long-term goals are not a bad thing, it’s just that the instant gratification generation seems to think they should be handed everything right now.
…that’s one item. in a set of 13 (+ weapons). When the current stated strategy is that there will be both level cap increases and future gear progression.
That’s not a long-term goal. That’s running straight at the cliff ahead hoping they’ll build a bridge before you’ll get there.
Also, at 16 i was way, way more tolerant of lenghty grind (or would have been if there were any MMO’s then).
Do you have a link from Anet on their intentions for Ascended gear? I mean that it’s intended for high level fractals only and not for casual players? I’ve read all their blog posts and statements on external sites and seem to have missed it.
Because that’s not true. At the Chris Whiteside’s AMA shortly after they were introduced the devs clearly said that putting them in fractals only and hard to access was a mistake they are going to correct in the future, and that they were supposed to be accessible throughout many different avenues from the very beginning.
Well, they have to accomplish that yet, of course.

According to every subforum their particular profession is the worst off in the game :/
Definitely not true. I’d point you in the right directions, but i don’t want to give anyone a reason for any nerfs
I’d say thet ele and engi are currently the worst professions in PvE, with rangers slightly better off – but that’s because rangers started from much higher position and haven’t managed to fall to the rock bottom yet. If the current trend of buffs and nerfs holds, however, they will definitely reach that last place eventually.
So, while eles and engis may be worse off currently, ranger is getting the worst treatment.

Best example of this IMO is a few months ago when we had a topic with almost 200 responses, almost all agreeing that no one bothers to do the dailies because they were boring, repetitive and you didn’t get anything worth having from them. Not long after that the system was changed to the one we have now. The topic wasn’t in the suggestions section and the nearest it came to suggesting the current system was saying it should change like the monthly and as far as I remember none of the devs replied, certainly not to say they agree or any word on what they might do. But they still changed it based on that feedback.
Weird, because i definitely remember dev posts (more than one) both about input, and spoiling future changes to the daily system. It was one of the better-covered changes in the game.

Actually, the problem here is neither in time required nor in skill. The skill requirements aren’t high, and the time required (7h30min for amulet, if we count one daily as 15 minutes) is also reasonable. The problem lies in how that time has to be used – in the fact that you are forced to parcel it out. That’s what ends you with one month per eq piece grind time – and that’s what ends you with the statement, that if you do not play everyday, you don’t even need to apply, because it’s not for you.
Play only on the wekends? No matter how good a player you might otherwise be, forget about ever gathering enough laurels for anything (single amulet – 15 weeks).

So how does one kill the grievers if they are standing at the traps causing crippled and making it virtually impossible for anyone to jump the ledges?
You don’t. Anytime you actually have a chance they simply log off, or leave you alone and go kill that single person in the different place of the map. Griefers are not interested in fighting (or at least not without heavily stacking the deck in their favour) – give them a real challenge of skills, and they will run away from it.
And most of the campers in WvW JP’s belong to that group. There are also some real PvPers, but they are rare.
That’s by the way, what separates griefers from normal PvPers – intention. Where one group thrives on competition and challenges (or at least claims they do), the other is interested only in making other people angry.

This is one of the best boss fights in the game. Somebody please remove the OP from life.
Which is very funny, because the hard part doesn’t come from the fight itself and is in no way affected by combat abilities.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
The spawns haven’t been nerfed. What happens is that there’s a 50|50 chance that any given holo site will be Aetherblades. People decide to run past them if they are Dragon Minions, meaning that, over time, nearly all the holos will be dragon minions.
Did a test – a run around 3 holo locations, killing everything anytime. After 5 circles (that’s 15 holos – and i don’t count their initial state holograms, which i killed off as well) i still haven’t seen any aetherblades. Seems their spawn rate really was severely reduced.
Fortunately i have my aether pirates achievement already cleared. As it is now, doing ascalon version would be really problematic (seeing as the only ascalon non-holo spawn location is in Vexa after rather annoying jumping part, and with the location kicking you out anytime someone kills the boss).

These may be “low on the priority list”, but at the same time adding them should be an extremely easy thing to do. I just don’t believe they they couldn’t have found 30 mins of their time (and i am being generous here) in the half a year that has passed to implement that.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Players all assume they are entitled to affordable exotic gear and legendary weapons, once they reach level 80.
That hsould have been true if indeed this game would not put much emphasis on gear, drops and rewards. The fact that people cannot get affordable and easily achieveable BiS gear is exactly the part of game design that points us to the big sign with the message “stuff is important, go grind it”.
If grinding was not supposed to be such a core activity for any players, there would have been no need for those prices.
It feels like an attempt to recreate the disparity of real life, and it is working.
Why would i play in a virtual world only to recreate those aspects of the real one i’d gladly do without?

by the way,
i think it is very wrong to call people who PvP in PvP area griefers.
Yes, but it’s completely okay to call people who grief in PvP areas griefers. Griefers are, in general, completely uninterested in PvP. For them to be interested, killings must be completely one-sided. And most of campers in WvW JP’s are griefers, not PvP’s.

Why are they not tradeable, would be a lovely place to farm decent skins that people would pay alot of gold for.
Because they suppose to show your achievement and I don’t mean achievement like: farmed cof for a month.
Like legendaries exist to show your achievement and are not tradable on TP…
oh wait. There is nothing hard in getting legendary… It’s just about farming. So I don’t care whether or not legendaries are on TP.
And fractals are any different?

Thousands of people will return the day Anet acknowledges the loot tables are absolute garbage and fix it so that time and effort is rewarded correctly for things other than greens blues and worthless materials.
And then, of course, they will find they are half a year (or more) behind as far as the top gear acquisition is concerned.
If they cared about it, they wouldn’t have left in the first place.
Heh, some of them left exactly because they cared about it. And some, of course, left when it was still believed that ascended gear will be fixed to not be a grind and timegating.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
So, you want to play and you have goals you want to work towards, but the way you play the game doesn’t match your goals, so your response is to blame Anet and stop playing?
Ah, but the way he wants to play does match the original stated design of the game. Not having to play everyday is also supposed to be one of the main points of subscriptionless games. As far as his way of playing goes, his goals should be reasonable in this game. They aren’t, because “someone” did change the rules after the game shipped.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
2 weeks. Seems pretty crazy to invest in an MMO and not be able to log on at least once every 2 weeks.
That’s for MMO’s with subscriptions. One of the points of subscriptionless MMO’s is that you don’t have to play regularly, after all
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Also Valkyrie and Emerald (the Knight variant with primary Prec that was introduced for all other ascended gear).

There are no skills in GW2 that are any better/worse than others.
This is the outcome of the lower number of skills put into the game; with too many skills there is no balance, but with the system currently there is 100% balance.
Which is why i end up running always the same skills, and there are some skills i wouldn’t put on my bar if they paid me (well, maybe then – i would consider it a skill-based MF version ;P).
Oh wait…
And back to skills: for my guardian it’s 3 shouts (including retreat and the stability one) in WvW. In PvE i usually drop Retreat, for more needed utilities (damage reduction signet, wall of reflection etc) depending on situation.
For other classes speed in WvW (usually in form of +25% signet) is a must. You just don’t want to stay behind when it counts. Portal for mesmer is usually off the bar, but at the same time gets a lot of use, so should be mentioned here.

Most of the other so called mmoRPGs are just MMOs that have completely forgotten what RPGs are all about.
This is one of the few things on which i can agree with you. It’s sad, but in most MMO’s rpg part is limited to the “your character has attribute sheet” part.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
It’s clear as day that rewards are set as a major issue among the lot of you. I want to know why rewards have to be such a priority. Why not aim at reworking replay value so people can have fun taking on missions without ever having a second thought about how they’ll be rewarded?
I don’t know. Ask Anet. They were the ones that put emphasis on gear and rewards with introduction of ascended eq, and with insane prices on everything. Me, i just wanted cool skins for my char and good content to play through. Living story helps to kill time, but i wouldn’t call it a good content. And as for the cool skins, there weren’t many of those after launch, and those that were introduced ended in stupid RNG boxes.
The behaviour of players is strongly influenced by game design. Not by stated goals, but with what we really get. You cannot fix the mindset of players without fixing the game design first.

lol, and I hate the people that says “if you don’t like it, leave.”
and you have to make a giant post about it. You failed to realize some people enjoy the game to certain extent, but there are problems with the game. Nothing is perfect, if you do not allow criticism, this game will not improve at all.
Where did I fail to realise that? I’ve outright asked people to post their criticism. But having a criticism of the game isn’t the same thing as not enjoying the game to the point where you literally feel like something is forcing you to play it.
“The game is a chore”, “I feel like i’m forced to play” are hyperboles. Simplifications. What the people really mean is “there are parts of the game i feel i am being forced into in order to be able to play the parts that i still enjoy”.
People that find the whole game completely unfun do leave, and thus will never read what you have posted.

No idea why this is apparently so difficult to introduce into the game. I don’t think my father, the inventor of toaster strudel, would be pleased to hear about this.
The most likely reason is that the devs found a particular build in PVP that would be OP in full Valkryie gear.
Or (far more possible) no dev actually used Valk gear, so they forgot it exists.

@ astral , there are ppl who want to rep 100% , its very disheartening to see in your guild when trying to organise a fun event or group run, and at least like over 10 ppl not repping, whats the point in joining the guild if ur just going to be another most of the time
I have already said there is a big difference between staying in one guild because you want to, and staying because you would be punished otherwise. The people who want to rep 100% will not leave even if there will be no rule.
And for the people that rep other guilds… They are in your guild because it offers them something they want. They rep other guild, because that other guild offers them something they want that your guild is not able to give them. In the case of repping guilds that “something” is usually team spirit and cameraderie. And that’s something you cannot enforce.
TL/DR: If there are members of your guild that keep representing other guilds, the problem usually does not lie in those people, but in your guild.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
If you expect to be taken seriously, yes it absolutely gives your thoughts meaning.
no it doesnt, if you would have taken at least college writing you would understand that a bunch of sentences with good vocabulary isnt a meaningful one and its looked down upon. a lot of people mask their lack of thought with good vocab.
True. On the other hand, if you do not care enough about your thoughts to organize them in a more understandable way, it shows that you are not really interested in meaningful discussion in the first place. It’s not a case of someone who writes in bad english due to not being a native speaker. You are actually making effort to make your post less understandable. This in itself is a message – a message that tells us that you do not want to be treated seriously.
you cant respond by stating something based on “feeling” plz dont
Why not? Your whole post is based on feelings after all.
at the end of the day, adding motive to the things you do is what makes you want to repeat the same thing over and over….yes gettign rich for a legendary is cute…..and accessories, but like i said, in the end of the day, thats not enough motive to continue. even if you get all the legendary weapons and accessories, yes yes im sure you can name things to do, but lol like i said, no real motive, just meaningless and uninteresting shores with no core value.
Yes, motivations are important. Competiveness might be one such motivation, but neither only one, nor for everyone.
You seek competition in your games and that competition motivates you. I chose this game because competition factor was advertised to be seriously toned down, because for me it’s something completely demotivating.
Neither approach is wrong. Neither is more right than the other. Both are contradictory. Obviously, if you get what you want from this game, it will mean that something I want will be gone. For me, what you propose is not something i’d call fun, and definitely not the direction i’d want this game to go.
Fortunately for me, truly competitive players are usually a minority even in games that are made especially for them. I can keep hoping that Anet will not decide to make this game less fun for majority of its players.
Remember, remember, 15th of November

I’d like to get everyones thoughts on weather they like to be in a 100% representation guild, or a part time repping guild and why.
Noone wants to be in a 100% representation guild. There are people that believe in staying in one guild, but there’s a difference between doing it of your own will and having it enforced on you. The 100% representation rule is for the benefit of the guild as a whole, not for the benefit of individual members. Unless that individual members form the leadeship of said guild.
I’d rather be in a guild where players stay because they genuinely like to be there. Not where you have to keep them with threats of punishment.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
It’s a percentage between current population and population cap for the server. Each server has it’s own population cap, and those are often dynamically adjusted.
Also, some servers may seem to have more or less population visible due to their population being shifted away from average towards some instanced activity (pvp, WvW, dungeons, etc).
So, basically oficial population info doesn’t tell you anything about the server population, and the visible population doesn’t have to match actual population.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
There’s no reason that a person who has 10 alts should be able to get 10 of a reward that disadvantages people who have single characters by comparison.
It would disadvantage the single character people only if they were putting the same effort into their single character as someone put into their multiple alts. Which is possible, but in most cases is simply not true.
People that created many high-leveled alts (yes, i agree that low level alts should be prohibited from benefitting in some way) have to put a lot of effort into those chars. That is their disadvantage.
So yes, in lot of cases people that have only single char are and should be disadvantaged. There might be mechanisms to limit that disadvantage, but if it were completely eliminated, then i fully expect any disadvantage of posessing more than one char would be eliminated as well.
And back to the main topic… i wonder, besides the node in the player instance, will there be any other way to get those resources? And if it will be, will it be permanent addition, or temporal one (like azurites, that really should have been added to normal node drop tables)?
Remember, remember, 15th of November
There’s also the “small” matter (that has been promised to be resolved long time ago) of back items being restricted to the first stat sets only. They were apparently completely forgotten when the second group of stat sets were added for ascended gear.
That, and i also would like to see carrion and magi ascended gear.

We’re not the ones complaining about the best mmo to ever be released.
“The best” is debatable – and even if it’s true it’s more the statements about how bad the other MMOs are, not about how good GW2 is. It certainly doesn’t mean it lacks any flaws whatsoever as you seem to imply.
Learn to appreciate what you have. Learn the virtue called “patience.” Anet is working on this game and pushing it in a great direction.
What’s so great about RNG boxes, grind and vertical progression hamster wheels? Because those are some of the directions that Anet’s been pushing the game towards since the launch.

It’s funny because a lot of people (myself included) are apparently able to kill thieves.
There are a lot of thief players. A number of them do not really understand their own class mechanics and/or play really badly. Those can be killed.
If you happen to run into a good thief player, the only way you will be able to kill him is if it was you who initiated the attack (in other words, if you manage to surprise him). If he was the one to start a fight, then either he’ll kill you or will be able to run away.
TL/DR: you will be able to kill a ganker thief only if the thief’s player will make a mistake.
