“Ascended Rings and Fractal Weapon Skin drop rates now increase appropriately with player scale.”

Can someone help me by explaining what this mean? Scale as in the character’s level. Scale as in the scale of FotM we’re doing.

You’re more bound to find those things based on the player’s fractal level.

Does that mean increased chance at higher fractal levels, or decreased chance at lower ones?

Making GW2 the right move?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

Other than the fact that GW2 is nothing like GW1 in even the slightest aspect and GW2 failed, they could have released 4 or 5 new campaigns for GW1 in that time and been a lot more successful.

Either that or they could’ve sold GW2 to Blizzard to make it WoW2. But I don’t think they’d take it.

They would never have sold 2 million copies if they had released a hundred new campaigns for GW1.

Considering that GW1 passed 6 million boxes sold somewhere about 2009, i’m pretty sure you are so very wrong here.

Making GW2 the right move?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

I would guess that GW1 expansions weren’t selling that well anymore, I always saw them for bargain basement prices at game stores. So to just make more of the same wouldn’t make sense.

I like the game very much, even if I do miss the strategic aspects of making team builds for me and my heroes. I like the action aspect, I like their decision to mix dps with some support instead of the holy trinity. I love the gorgeous world (like GW1 was back in the day) and the DE system where I can log in and run into some action within minutes.

Their ambitions and hype sold GW2 in great numbers, so I think they did the right thing by thinking BIG and going for new stuff.
They did fall short, with many elements being buggy or barely implemented (traits, guilds, home instances to name some), but I appreciate that they tried and now are fixing the shortcomings over time with the money they are making from the game.

They were selling fine, the biggest problem was that every time they wanted to make an expansion and introduce new mechanics, they had to spend a stupid amount of time explaining and implementing them. With GW2, they can do that, but it was made for expansions from the beginning and as such should be a bit simpler to implement new mechanics. Hopefully that made sense. :l

In fact, the original reason they gave for GW2 was that they while they wanted GW1 to grow and evolve, they were constrained by lot of original mechanical decisions, and so decided that making a new platform for it would be easier than trying to perform an advanced software surgery on already existing game.

Of course, that approach didn’t last, but that’s for a completely dofferent discussion.

Do longtime players get free items too? (Wizard Hat; Merged)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

I see no problem with the item being exclusive to the current buyers. Those that bought stuff earlier still have access to exclusives that newer players won’t get – anet hats, mad king book, witch hat (which i doubt will be returning next year), horns, etc.

If there will be enough people interested in hats i bet they will eventually end up in gem shop, but i woudn’t count on it happening soon.

If it’ll go the same as in GW1 (it doesn’t have, of course – there are enough differences already) there will be other incentives for old players on the way – birthday presents, for example – to make buying earlier rather than later more appealing.

Plans to open up racial armor for all races?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

Yes, it’s true that opening all of these armors to every race will result in uniformity, but currently most T1 and T2 cultural sets are just… well… crappy. Actually, most of the armor sets doesn’t strike me with anything too amazing. I am not trying to sound like an kitten, just look at the sets from Guild Wars 1 – they are gorgeous. Either they fired some very talented people, or the designers just got swept in a tasteless direction. In order to back up my argument – here are some examples:

Necro – http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/b/b9/Necromancer_Elite_Profane_armor_m.jpg
Warrior – http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/9/97/Warrior_Elite_Gladiator_armor_f.jpg
Monk – http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/c/cd/Monk_Labyrinthine_armor_f.jpg
Another necro – http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/0/04/Necromancer_Elite_Necrotic_armor_m.jpg
One of my top favorites, Water ele – http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/8/8c/Elementalist_Elite_Iceforged_armor_f.jpg

And then, the FoW armor sets (later ranamed to the less tasteful ‘Obsidian’ Armor)
Ele – http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/5/5a/Elementalist_Obsidian_armor_f.jpg
The rest – http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Obsidian_armor

The armors I’ve listed are from the very beginning of GW, so they are very outdated. Imagine how they could look right now, in GW2. But we still don’t have them…

The current choice is just poor, not because we don’t have as many options, but rather because most of these options suck.

A handful of those armors are decent and I see one or two that are really good, the rest are pretty much hideous. I mean seriously, a leather skirt and halter top for almost every single female armor? Great variance, halter top and skirt that’s blue, halter top and skirt with tattoos… ooh a corset and skirt, now we’re getting somewhere.

Well, it’s true that some of those were among the worst that GW1 had to offer. There were a lot of way better-looking armor though – some were trully stunning, way better than what i have seen in GW2 so far.

People sitting on log in screen

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Astralporing.1957

“Full” has nothing to do with people being logged on or off. According to official word it’s being calculated based on total server population (accounts that are tied to that server, whether they are active at the moment or not). There seems to be other modifiers to this, but in general people sitting at the login screen do not prevent you from changing servers (or from logging in – there is NO cap on this at all, if the login server is up, you should be able to get in. If you can’t then either login server is down – for everyone – or it’s a completely different problem).

Well, they are counting with WintersDay event to bring back a lot of disappointed players.

But this whole affair is really sad…just plain disrespect for their player base.

There’s no assurance or mention of this bug being fixed in wintersday patch, so I don’t really care what they’re doing until I see some changes in-game and mass acknowledgement by players that things are back to normal.

I agree. Only after things go back to pre-15th November loot drop tables I will be back.

Back to pre-15th November? When their patch notes promised increased drop rates? It’s like having a “25% price reduction” promotion by first increasing the price by 33%.

T3 needs to be Exotic

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Astralporing.1957

Exotic would be nice, available for Karma would be even better.

The value of it would go down if you made it buyable with Karma.

Why? It would still look the same…

No **** Sherlock.

But Karma is such an easy currency to get compared to gold, so a lot and a lot more people would run around in Tier 3 making it less rare to be seen than now.

Dont’t worry, as soon as the ascended (and legendary) armor hits the game, all the prestige value of T3 will disappear overnight anyway. In fact, it’s already disappearing, seeing as one ascended backpiece alone (not upgraded) is worth over half T3 set.

People that are in T3 for prestige should be ready to move on soon. People who were after it for looks will not care.

Uhm, why would it become less rare because they add Ascended and/or Legendary gear?

It will just become even more special if people don’t want to go for it because they must go for Ascended/Legendary gear.

I’m not quite sure you know how it works.

Oh, I know – it will become the “i can’t afford ascended gear so i went for T3 cultural” kind of prestige for those that associate skins with status.

What's wrong with vertical progression?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

The “human behaviours” without end-game vertical progression:
1st – Players reach max cap level and gears.
2nd – Players get the their favourite appearance.
3rd – Players feel satisfied since they get a sense of “game completion”.
4th – Players only log-in once per month for one-time events.
Result – Low concurrency : Empty maps 80~90% of the time.
This is the truth shown by evidences. Is this what players want?

That is true only for gamists, people that need a win condition to have fun. These are not the only kind of players around here – though it’s true that they are the type that most of the MMO’s seem to designed for. You have to remember though, that a RPG player community (and, a player community in general, without even the RPG part) consists of more than only gamists. These are not even the majority.
Also, it’s entirely possible to make other “win conditions” that are not dependant on vertical progression. In GW1 one of those was a title completion, for example.

"No Mounts" Mindset related to GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

Not to mention, I have over 300 hours/full exotics/nearly full Arah EXP set on my Guardian and don’t even have HALF the waypoints. Not only have I not experienced it once per character, I am not missing out on anything but not having them explored. Have LA Wp’s and all Dungeon Wp’s? Check! Nowhere else worth traveling.

Now, that is a problem way bigger than having/not having mounts. If the game has been designed right, you would have been missing out on not having the world explored, and there should definitely be an incentive to visit any zone.

The fact that you can just unlock LA and dungeon waypoints and not move beyond those is a clear sign how much GW2 has failed in it’s original goal.

What's wrong with vertical progression?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

This is why I said people who hate vertical progressions are playing the wrong genre. mmorpg is all about vertical progression. In books, movies and rpgs, character develops and progresses. It’s what keep readers, audiences and players anticipated.

Funny that you mentioned Tolkien before. Let’s look at Lord of the Rings, shall we?
The goal of the “game” is not to obtain the Ring, but to destroy it. Frodo starts the quest with it, in addition to Sting and the mithril shirt – both of whose should be considered Best in Slot. And by the end of the books he loses all of those. He doesn’t become any more powerful throughout the story – his whole “progression” is purely psychological.
In fact, the LotR is a perfect example against your theory of RPG’s being about progression. RPG’s are about story first and foremost.
Unless you are a gamist, of course.

It was in the patch notes – they made the dynamic event rewards scale down a bit less for high level players. It affects karma and money rewards as well, but you’d have to look at lower level events to see the difference.

Superior Sigil of Water

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Astralporing.1957

Astralporing.1957

the wiki discussion on this has some feedback.

from what i can unravel, it seems the 30% chance of heal might happen on crits only.

then " Sigil’s chance stacks like 30% + 30% of 70% = 51% chance to trigger the effect."

It seems that the sigils activate only on a crit from a specific weapon – so in a double-weapon setup, first 3 skills can trigger sigil on a main hand weapon, while the second sigil is triggered by 4th and 5th skill.

Observation in my case seems to agree with that – i almost never trigger offhand sigils.

Just a sidenote: I was testing sigils that have effects on the end of weapon swaps on my elementalist, and they do not stack. Both sigils seem to not work.

Out of curiosity, how did you manage to do that? Eles don’t have weapon swap option… (sigils don’t trigger on manual eq change at all, as far as i’m aware)

To clear things up about "A dying game"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Found this on a website, guess it answers your question

Severs pop status is calculated based on accounts per server, not people playing.

Why does it fluctuate at different times during the day? I’m not being defensive, I really want to know.

the reference point is being adjusted dynamically. For example, shortly before Karka weekend all the servers went to full status when they lowered the server caps, and at the start of the event the caps were raised to let the weekend invitees in. Smaller adjustments are being done constantly (and likely mostly automated).

Basically, today’s “full” may be twice as much (or half as much) as yesterday’s “full” for all we know. Without hard numbers this list doesn’t tell us anything
…especially since we don’t even know if the reference point is the same for all the servers, or server-specific.

but but but, nerfed drop rates are primarily a result of bots (aka gold sellers).

Nerfing drop rates does not affect bots. It simply drives the price up. In fact, once a certain rarity of drops is achieved, it even helps bots, because noone else can get what they have to offer on their own.

On the contrary, it’s making gold and other valuable drops more accessible to common players by other avenues of play that makes gold sellers and what they have to offer less used (and less profitable).

If you want to prevent farming those avenues, well, there are lot of ways to do that – dailies, random quests (in GW1 Zaishen style) with good rewards, significantly increased one-time rewards (map completion etc), increased WvW/PvP rewards (as those modes of play do not lend themselves too well to scripting), etc.

You’re not supposed to farm in GW2 by doing the same thing over and over, it ruins your experience. They want you to explore every corner of the map, run dungeons for armour and craft etc. Play on your alts.

No, they don’t. If they did, that style of play would not be visibly inferior to mindless repeated grinding, and it would offer meaningful rewards.

Nerfing farming options without boosting casual gains does not incentivize people to change gameplay to the one ANet says it’s desired – instead it will eventually make all types of gameplay equally unsatisfying.

If someone lacks any real arguments in a discussion, they sometimes try to switch it around by trying to attack base definitions and claiming that discussion is about something different than it actually is. Do you realize that when they’ll raise the level cap (and/or add new legendaries), which they already said they will with an expansion, current legendaries will be totally useless, right?

That has not been the stated design intent.

Items of the Legendary tier are intended to always be BIS. That’s been explicitly stated.

Level 80 legendary will be always BiS… for a level 80. That doesn’t mean there won’t be level 90 legendaries.
Of course, they might do exactly that, and keep bumping them not only in tiers, but also in levels. If so, then Legendaries are definitely not optional for only 5% of game population, but mandatory for anyone that is interested in long-term play.

"Endgame" Re-re-visited..?

…if you insist

Who exactly were you addressing your post to?

To people that asked for endgame contend, got what they asked for, and are now happy? I don’t think so – they don’t need to discuss possible changes and variations to endgame system. They got what they wanted after all.

To people that didn’t ask for endgame content, and got what they didn’t ask for? That would be even stranger – they didn’t want it, so why now they’d need to consider how should they want it?

It seems, that (as your rhetorical question suggests) your post is aimed at people that asked for endgame content, got it and are now unhappy with what they received.
Except i don’t remember even a single post on this forum that would come from such a group. If you look hard, you maybe, just maybe could find a few such people – certainly not enough to address whole thread to.
The whole cathegory of people you are addressing your post to is almost non-existant.

I was simply pointing that fact to you.

Edit: …seems the post i was responding to was removed

It was a rhetorical question meant to display a point.

Oh yes, i have noticed that you thought it was a rhetorical question. You still got the answer wrong.

I’m just wondering.

Are you the same people who complained 2 months ago that there was no endgame content?

1. (new eq tier) does not equal (new content)
2. No, we’re not the same people.

both answers would be obvious to anyone that actually tried to read topics you are referencing.

I see that neither open world lowered drop rates nor accessibility/price of ascended items were addressed.
No hurry, take your time, it’s not like it’s important to anyone…

Triforge pendant and it's future fate.

No they’re exotic level stats.

actually the triforge pendant (assuming the wiki is correct) have a total of 320 stats (assuming the 3% MF and critical dmg each equal 40 stat again like all the otehrs stats on it are), where an exotic amulet seem to have 218, so it have more than exotic stats, cant find an ascended item online nor have it ingame yet so dunno how much they have

Ascended divinity type items also have more total stats than the specialized versions of the same tier. There has to be a trade-off for them having lower individual stats.
Current triforge stats are exotic level.

im on sorrows furnace log in around 5pm pst btw nothing was empty except malchors leap untill plinx nerf

So it’s American servers having a population problem then?

Not only. Yesterday during evening hours, on Gandara, i did a run through whole 3 orr zones to Arah (to unlock waypoints and check karma armor sites with my newly leveled alt). On my way i met like 3 people, a group of 10 people unlocking Melandru, and one (yes… one) person at Arah entrance. In 3 end content zones.

The people are still around – enough at least that Dragons are still being done, but beyond few key events late game zones are empty (and starting ones have a visibly reduced population).

And Gandara is still well above average when it comes to population levels…
