Thats a tough one, since both professions provide what you want.

I guess it comes down to which theme you prefer.

Do you want to be the dark mage who rises undead, curses enemies and uses bloodmagic to support himself and his allies, or the engeneer, who deploys turrets, throws bombs at enemies, and helps himself and his allies out with healing packs and elixiers.

Since the themes of this 2 professions are as different as they can be, it shouldn’t be all to hard to decide which one you would prefer.

I would appreciate that too.

For example the Necro Bloodmagic trait which allows you to heal every time you hit a enemy, which then turns out to be 10 health, while mobs hit you for 1k.

Same for sigils, it would be interesting to know how strong the bleed or heal etc on crit is, before i buy them.

I would also highly appreciate if ability tool tips would change with traits, mentioning where it comes from.

For example with Wells, “Gives protection for 3 seconds on cast – by Ritual of Protection”, as tool tip amplification.

No Mounts?

Mounts are something I’d like to see in this game. Waypoints gets expensive and other than that, you’re forced to use x weapons to have a swiftness buffs, or an utility

Waypoint are THE gold sink of the game. Mounts would not only suck because you would skip all the content and beautiful sights with them, but also completely destroy the economy.

A: No mounts in GW 2.

A Thief weapon that should be added

I compared it to the Shortbow in terms of one weapon, 5 skills, while the Thief, unlike other professions, has the dual ability, which should be used since it is such a cool idea.

Then i would implement a off-hand only weapon, basically as counter part to the sword, which is main hand only.

A dual skill for Dagger could be the short range scorpion wire + a dagger attack for example, while also opening other interesting possibilities for Sword and Pistol, while also still giving room for 2 offhand abilities.

I wouldn’t like to see any more 2 handed weapons for the Thief, since the dual skill is kind of his thing, and Short Bow is already kind of boring because of that.

While i don’t know about the use of this weapon in reality (2 hands required?), it could fit as a Off-Hand only weapon, as the sword is a main hand only weapon, allowing combinations for sword, dagger and pistol (2 off-hand abilities + 3 dual abilities), which would be way more interesting.

I just dinged 80 on my Thief. Yes you die every once in a while but that is because you get overwhelmed by mobs. If the mob is hitting you too hard, simply switch to your ranged weapons as they are just as essential to your survival.

Well, then good luck in explo dungeons.

You wont even think about the “option” to melee anymore, and if a random ranged projectile hits you, you will meet the floor.

1 mob, 1 hit.

I’m not talking about open world PvE, and i didn’t even had a problem with my story quests, even if it was hard due to many mobs sometimes. But if you want to go over to dungeons, it’s over.

Atm it’s just easier to reroll on a high health class (Necro, Warrior), or a mid Health Class with interesting ranged/support options, which is pretty much every class except Thief and Elementalist.

Health just seems to be such a huge factor, while toughness kind of seems to be broken, and now guess which professions have to lowest base health..

Elementalist, Thief and Guardian.

All other classes seem to do fine in PvE (not getting killed in 1-3 seconds by random hits), which i can confirm after rerolling on a higher base Health profession.

I guess Elementalist has the same problem as Thief then.

Melee Thief is even more worthless, and dungeons feel worse than pre nerf Diablo 3 Inferno Akt 4.

Since i don’t count on a nerf, especially not soon, i already rerolled from my Level 80 Thief to a more durable class (currently 56, and already more health and defence than my 80 Thief), and it just works and feels better.

The game (PvE) was obviously not balanced with squishys in mind, just that classes like the Thief, and probably Elementalist from what i hear too, can’t really go a beefy route, while still doing anything worthwhile.

I guess thats the price for PvP balance, and what i already feared when they said they would focus much on PvP years ago. Some classes just don’t work very well in PvE, or at least only in very specific situations.

If you want to play PvE mostly, i would recommend rerolling on a class that can do everything (open PvE, dungeons and story), since squishies are limited to open, low difficulty PvE right now.

Try out the Crucible of Eternity dungeon armor, or the Order of Whispers Armor.

These 2 are pretty much the only Thief themed armors in the game right now.

High prices generate high prices.

If the prices would be higher, yes, you would make “more” money, just as you would have to pay more.

What changes? The fee cuts get higher and drops get worthless, thats it, good job.

I rather get only 10 silver for a item, and pay also only 10 silver for what i need, while the gold and item drops i get from monsters still matter, than getting 10 gold for a item, while i have to pay also 10 gold for what i want, while it’s completely useless to actually play the game, because random drops are useless.

Good luck in a fair and social economy, now you can proceed in kitten up the real world economy.

Cultural Armor - Overpriced?

I never bought the Obsidian Armor in 7 years of playing Guild Wars 1 for the very same reason. I bought over 20 prestige armors for all my characters instead.

But at least the Obsidian Armor had this even more prestige feeling to it.
It wasn’t just walking to a vendor and paying enough money to buy the whole gem shop out.

It included farming super rare materials in the Underworld, getting through a “dungeon” and all that stuff.

Sure, in the end it was still “pay a sload of money”, but at least it was hidden a little bit.

And if i can decide between getting all the bank slots, bag slots for all my characters, armor for all my characters and basically everything else i can dream of, or one average armor skin for one character… well, then something is a little bit off.

Cultural Armor - Overpriced?

I think the intend is to buy the Cultural Armor and use transmute stones so that it has stats that actually matter for your character’s trait build.

Sure it is, but 120 gold is kind of a big thing for a skin.

Also it doesn’t looks so super special, that it could be something to work towards to when you already have everything else, but more it is a regular armor skin some people might want to pick up like any other armor.

Atm it just sucks if the cultural Tier 3 is your taste.

Necromancer: "Target the Weak" Ability understanding

The 25 minor Trait of the Necromancers Curse line “Target the Weak” says:

“2 % increased damage for each condition on a foe”

which leads to the first question if “a condition” is a condition type, or a condition stack.

So for example, if i get 2 stacks of bleed and a poison on a enemy, will i do 4 % increased dmg for 2 conditions (bleed + poison) or 6 % increased dmg for 3 conditions (2 bleeds + poison)?

Also, which dmg is increased? Only power/direct dmg, or also (further applied?) condition dmg?

Further, are only conditions applied by me counting, or will i do increased dmg for each condition on a mob, for example in a boss fight with x conditions on the mob, and if so, is there a cap (which is redundant to answer if it’s capped by the amount of condition types in the game)?

To make the answer possibly short:

Does this trait only increase the direct damage for each condition type on the mob?

Also, with “Feast of Corruption” also stacking with conditions, is it

[Base DMG] + ([X Conditions * 8 %] + [X Conditions * 2 %]) = Ability DMG
or
([Base DMG] + [X Conditions * 8 %]) + [X Conditions * 2 %] = Ability DMG

Thief or Mesmer?

I didn’t played the Mesmer in depth (just a little bit in betas) but got my Thief on 80 a week ago, and I’m rerolling on a Necro since then, because i feel like the Thief is more a PvP class.

Open PvE is fine, since you can pick out single targets to burst down most of the time, but in dungeons and against harder mobs like champs, it’s just not fun to play a thief (except if you like to play him ranged, but i see the Thief more as Assassin-ish melee fighter, and not as a gunslinger like the engineer , which i would pick for that kind of playstyle), since you are either downed by random hits in seconds or spam a ranged aa.

As i don’t want to play a character which is really good at something (open field low difficulty PvE), but horrible at other things (dungeons, except with some awkward supportish builds like Venom Aura, which are very specific, not fun or class themend, and kind of useless outside such group activities, which leads to trait resetting every few minutes), i kind of gave up on him, and would recommend trying out the Mesmer, if you are also not fine with that limitations.

For PvP, thats a whole other story.

If you like to play them, they are fun. If you play them good, they are strong.

PvP doesn’t allows for as many builds as you would wish, but he can compete with what he has.

I can’t fully agree with Windmill, and really would not recommend picking a Thief if you want to play PvE, especially not if you are new to this game.
You may end up being completely useless in high level content/dungeons, or at least stuck with VERY few possible builds to play (while melee dps most certainly won’t be one of them).
Warrior and Guardian on the other hand are completely fine, if not more than that, so enjoy

In PvP every profession is fine (and this is clearly what the Thief is made for, sadly only).

Utility Skills

It’s very easy to get all the skills later on, just by completing skill challenges when you stumble over them.

The x/5 is a restriction to pass on to the next layer of utility skills, to a) motivate you to try out a few skills instead of picking the ones you think might suit you the best and just sticking to them while not getting the full potential of your class and b) not to overwhelm you with tons of skills,

and not a restriction in how many you can get in total by any means.

The rule for me is, revive downed players at any cost but getting downed myself, but leave defeated players alone till the fight is over.

Getting up defeated players in nasty fights takes way to long, and does more harm than good. To see 5 people dieing in a AoE of a boss, trying to revive a defeated player forever hurts just as much as seeing people “bleeding out” while people stay right next to them in a good position without the fear of aggro, doing nothing but autoattacking.

That post was really weird up to that point

But yes, the random drop ressources are really a draw back, while leather is actually fairly easy to obtain by centaurs, bandits etc., which like to drop those loot bags Rika mentioned.

Cultural Gear is for the looks.

But yes, the prices are WAY over the top for “skins”, since it’s only a question of preference. One guy likes that look, another guy this look, both get the same stats, but one has to pay 1 silver for it, the other one 120 gold (or Karma for weapons).

Sucks if you like the cultural stuff, i guess…
