Most people complain. People complain because they care about something. Once the complaint is gone, it is either the problem has been solved, or they moved on to something else.
Solve the problems while people still care.
That is all.
Where is everyone? The map is dead when the meta event is happening too often. It wasn’t like this before. Seems to be getting worse these days
I dont own any intelectual rights over the “whos right and whos not” kind of argument, but i do have a decent memory, and my memory always pushes me back here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wuCr72Dqqog
Have fun.
I remember getting all hyped up when I saw this.
Watching this again makes me want to play this game… if it only was truly was like this…
Guess they tried to tackle an immovable object. It’s there, it not gonna move, you just gotta work around it.
You can get the same amount of mats (ores, wood, cloth, leather) from drops and salvage, AND gather additional ores/wood from nodes. Why can’t you do the same for cloth/leather? You need an absurd amount of cloth/leather for ascended light armor, but not for heavy? Where is the balance?
Q:can I get marauder trinkets without RAID?

Back when ANet added in ascended gear through the laurel system, they stated that new types of gear would be retroactively added to that and similar systems because they weren’t ever going to be added to crafting.
And they have not done so with a single gear set, I think it’s long past time ANet kept their word. It’s bad enough there’s a mandatory gear grind for armor and weapons to pass content walls, at the very least there should be no such walls for trinkets.
EDIT: And checking the wiki, it seems this is only available in raids, and even there, it isn’t a complete set yet. Will probably be fully available with more raid wings.
This is a huge fail in Anet’s part imo.
Let the hardcores have their raids. Just don’t alienate the other players by gating essential items that should be available for access at the same time as hardcores. What i mean by essential is stuff like legendary items and ascended trinkets. You see a pattern for ascended trinkets getting harder and harder to get. Compare the new stat spread material against the materials needed for gen 1 stats. Just gonna get worse in the future
When people cry for “harder” content normally the following things happen :
- mobs get more HPs
- mobs make more damage, often one-shots
- mobs get more CCs so that you are often more often disabled / stunlocked then you could fight. And that does not only happen in GW2 but in ALL MMOs. Personally i’m not a fan
of one-shots and lying on the floor until i’m dead, thats why i’m always against it
when people cry for “harder” content.
You gotta watch what you wish for lol.
“If you hate MMO’s you’ll really want to check out Guild Wars 2”
- Mike O’BrienAn outdated quote. As a business evolves so does its ideology. To survive you must satisfy as wide of a range of players as you can. One way to do this is implementing raids. It doesn’t effect the casual community because they can… oh I don’t know… not raid… While the hardcore community is happy.
Outdated? Then they should revoke that statement from the website and make new manifesto. The fact that raids with unique rewards have been introduced means that Anet admitted that they were wrong all this time in regards to the formula for survival.
Hey if you can’t beat um, join um.
Those stats on trinkets will be coming in the living world updates
This latest patch sort of just killed me for this. Good to know there are other ways. Hopefully not as difficult as getting the amulet from the mordremoth story boss lag wise. Though I’d rather get the HOT trinkets from raid if I can find a raid guild from my time zone because raid has a currency and can be used to buy many things. And I have a feeling this currency is replacing other currencies gradually. As long as I do not have this currency, I feel I like a new player that will never progress. Might as well just gg now if there is no hope in the future. Most of these trinkets I think are for wvw, so you wonder why people don’t wvw now.
These magnetite shards, only available through raids, are also also pointing to an ominous direction of raid-specific items. I just don’t have the time to wait around or look for members to do raids and then failing. Might be easier if the raid scales down with the number of people on your team to a point where it’s actually beatable… There are ways to co-exist with raids, but the current direction it’s going is not a good sign.
It’s a privilege that only people that do successful raids have access to. What’s the point in doing raids if it there isn’t something material that separates hardcores vs casuals?
The point of it being fun? Of raiders saying they wanted a challenge? And denying that it’s all just for the big loot?
But please, let’s hear more about the “privilege” that the elite should have. Other than access to Legendary armor and the only content we’ve seen in months, that is. Tell us more of why this should be just for the raiders.
lol hold on, just being sarcastic here. I’m one of those “casuals” locked out of the ascended trinkets I need. I find it asinine that many raid guilds do ascended gear/build checks (trinkets and weapons) but some of those trinkets are locked behind the raid. So if I want them, I need to re-spec my gear and play a build I don’t like. Kinda goes against the manifesto of the game… “GW2 doesn’t fall into the traps of traditional MMORPGs. It doesn’t suck your life away and force you onto a grinding treadmill; it doesn’t make you spend hours preparing to have fun rather than just having fun…”

It’s a privilege that only people that do successful raids have access to. What’s the point in doing raids if it there isn’t something material that separates hardcores vs casuals? Seeing that Anet is putting quite a lot of effort into raids, I don’t see those items trickling down to casuals anytime soon. In fact, the disparity will probably get bigger in later releases. Most likely, a new stat spread will be introduced which makes stuff like viper’s obsolete.

I guess the question is:
Is Anet serious about trying to better this game, or will they jump ship from the Titanic?
The main problem with “casual v hardcore” is that games are made with this duality in the first place. When I was young you had one difficulty called “the f-ing game you just bought” and you either beat it or you didn’t. There were no difficulty settings.
Exactly. Unfortunately, the original game I bought was casual. The “hardcore content” is new.
So, the logical conclusion of this argument would be to dumb down raids and the new maps to make them as easy as dungeons and core Tyria. However, I don’t think this would make people happy, so this argument doesn’t really work here.
U ever played the original orr? there were 2 times more monster..and it was suuuuuuuuuper fun….so i just wanna have it back
but…since player enjoy the current orr..why not let both excist?
Lol original Orr was just stupid and annoying. You had to properly use condition cleanse and metal gear your way around. If not, you got stun locked to death. It was a challenge though.
i dont understand the reason why its impossible to make everyone happy??….there is for sure a solution…if humankind gave up on any small problem we would have died out looong long time ago.
Remember we live in a democratic society where if 51% of the people want something, the other opposing 49% gets the shaft.
Anet had to please the hardcores somehow, and the best way to do so is give them content that only they can clear consistently. As an added bonus, some items exclusive to the raids. Having a hard mode is pointless if it doesn’t give the proper rewards. It gives them a special feeling of upper status, doing gear checks, little extra income of selling raid team seats, etc. It is after all, the hardcores that stay around the longest. Having end game content like raids are inevitable, just like other mmos.
HoT, while it can get annoying, is about right in terms of difficulty. Just wished the events ran more like SW. If you played GW2 when it first came out, Orr was a nightmare until the devs nerfed the mobs. I remember trying to run past mobs and getting scorpion wired to death.
Raids are ok for people wanting more challenging content, but locking certain items (eg viper ascended trinkets) behind is not a great idea.
I don’t know what’s going on these days, but I haven’t seen one successful octovine event completed for a while now. Bad luck?
Just separate the two modes. Balancing the two is a wild goose chase, wasting time and resources imo.
It’s too bad that the game still centers around the zerker meta. Pretty much 95% of the game is “go zerker or go home”. HoT tried to fix this, but it doesn’t help that rest of the areas don’t have varying monster attributes that make other types of attacks viable. Most RPGs have “weak against X” where GW2 is just “weak against damage” imo.
Go for berserker’s stats.
I hope those ascended trinkets with the HoT stats will be available to “casual” players that cannot spend time to run the DS events or do raids.
But you guys notice the direction that this game is going with the new stat spreads(viper’s, trailblazers, etc), and the materials needed to create them. They are gonna find ways to make you grind. That’s what keeps mmos going.
PVE mobs and PVP players don’t act the same. Trying to balance effectiveness/damage across two different play platforms is just asking for trouble. You already can’t play PVP with the same gear from PVE, might as well just isolate the mode completely.
Would be nice on the gathering mastery to include an alternate source to gather cloth/leather.
The only thing I disagree with is being unable to continue gaining mastery XP until you unlock the mastery. Why can’t I fill it up and then start filling up the next bar? You wouldn’t get access to the actual mastery skill until you unlock it with MPs, but you should at least be able to start filling up the next bar in the mastery line.
This. Maybe it makes too much sense.
I don’t see the problem with being able to choose RS once you unlock the entire trait line, without having to choose Reaper. It will open up more build diversity.
more maps, plus more stat spreads and crazy recipes that require super rare drops to make them. Hybrid damage is the in thing now, what’s next?
Last time I went to AB for the meta event, the octovine phase was started, but no one was at the gates. Do people just do the pylon events and just leave? Seen this several times. I want to move on with things on HoT, but the population is so scarce that I can’t get anything done. Would be nice if things were a bit more soloable.
The new HoT stat gear isn’t making things better. If I want to make a full viper’s exotic set, those black diamonds are expensive and hard to come by. Might as well just keep working on the ascended and convert it to vipers.
This is an MMO, not a solo game. The emphasis should NEVER be on solo play.
Except that’s the standard they set with the core game, so this logic doesn’t fly.
The whole game is built on solo play with casual grouping. That’s why it is so popular, just like GW1 was.
A game that requires lots of waiting around to group for normal stuff is a short-lived game. This a thousand times over. It was a selling point for God’s sakes. And it’s not a smart move to alienate the very people you attracted and made your game a bestseller. +1
+1 But the truth is that the most dedicated players are the mega MMO oriented ones. It was obvious which direction ANet need to take.

So a guy like me that can only play for about an hour a night at a certain time, HoT is not me then… I had lots of time as a student back couple of years, but didn’t have much money. Even buying GW2 at launch was an investment at the time. Now that I’m a working member of society, my time is very limited, but I have no problem buying HoT financially. Ah the irony.
(edited by Asumita.2174)
Would be funny if they released Cantha only to Chinese servers.
Why do they need a beta testing phase when they will release the exact same game?
argh, no wonder the jumping puzzles irritated the crap with my large norn lol
The LS is soon to be over!
this is probably the best thing that will ever happen to this game. Get ready for season 2
Season 2 teaser: Scarlet has been killed. The gods of Tyria decided that she was worthy of an ascension. Now, revived as a Goddess, Scarlett brings an end to the whole map of Tyria. The game is then closed for the rest of the season
Behold GW3! With all new game play mechanic. Coming in 2015. You can bring your old characters over for 10000 gems per character. :P

I also went the all celestial route, but the power output just wasn’t cutting it. I use this for PVE. Still working on some tweaks, but I outlive lots guys fighting in LA.
I switch out Retreat! for Bane Signet if I know I will be pinned to one area. That will get my base attack to 3162. Rune of the pack doesn’t seem to be a popular one, but I like that is gives me 20% swiftness duration. I can get perma swiftness utilizing the staff and shouts. Plus it gives me 165 power and 100 precision. That 5% chance to get fury, might and swiftness when hit is kinda meh, it should last a little longer, but a nice bonus I guess.
Not sure if there is hate mechanics, but mobs should target the guys doing the highest DPS. Lots of times, I see mobs targeting guys with high toughness. I noticed myself getting attacked more when my armor was high vs. zerk gear. Zerking is low-risk, high return, which is why it is the way it is currently.
lol they one shotted me too. kittens. Now I wish Scarlet would wreak havoc on them too. Destroy that precious wall of theirs.
Doesn’t this also depend on whether Scarlets troops attack/destroy the tengu gate or not? If her troops get close enough, the tengu will attack them. And i’m sure the Krait or any of the others will attack them for that alone, even if Scarlet ordered them to leave them alone. If Scarlet even sees the tengu as a threat. Didn’t a Dev already state that Scarlet isn’t as kittenhe was anymore, thanks to the voice in her head? So maybe she doesn’t care if the tengu join the battle or not.
It’s one thing to ignore a battle in front of your door. It’s another if your door gets smashed in.
If anything, Scarlet was involved with the Tengu, so there is a connection.
If anything, Scarlet should have destroyed LA AND Dominion of Winds so we can get in to help them out. That will create trust between the Tengu and the outer world, thus opening the gates.
Btw, is the LA tengu gate accessible currently? Wondered if there is anything there.
edit: ok, so the Tengu are shooting everyone that comes near the gate.

Does anybody else think it’s possible that they have a huge content addition sitting around and waiting for the releases of TESO/Wildstart/EQN and they’ll drop it at the same time to keep people around?
I get the feeling that they’re building something and just not talking about it.
That’s exactly what wow does, and it works. Expansion release around other prominent titles is like using heat to cook. No heat, you can’t cook, period.
It’s all a matter of when. Mists of Pandaria hit not long after GW2 launched right? And it was announced a good bit before that. If they are wanting something to hit when these new MMOs do, then they need to start announcing. And as far as Wildstar goes…isn’t it published by NCSoft? They aren’t going to let GW2 take away any of it’s glory.
Yeah, so this is a really good point. I would say this: boxed expansions require substantial notification and lead time because you have to get the boxes to retailers. Gem Store expansions would not require much lead time. Free expansions would not require much lead time.
Can you imagine if, the week before Wildstar and ESO hit, ArenaNet says “Boom. Travel to Elona unlocked next week. Enjoy.”
That would be amazingly awesome, but I put the probability of that happening at about .0000002%. Or the drop rate of a precursor.
People will so stick with the game if that happens. But it will make too much sense. They rather play with the gem market.
Lol if the game was half as good, there wouldn’t be threads like this. Companies that ignore the voices of users/consumers is destined to fail, unless you are government funded.

That would make the game interesting, but making it so goes against what Anet is trying to achieve.
So I pre-ordered GW2 and then played at least 150 hours during the (3 or 5? cant remember) day headstart and then during the release weekend and just got completely burnt out by overplaying the game. Haven’t really touched the game since then. What has changed about the game since then?
game play pretty much the same. if you want ascended, be prepared to grind A LOT. Don’t overdo yourself, or you will get burnt out again.
To clarify from my last post. In GW1, at 18 months, we had:
Prophecies
-they added Sorrows Furnace
-they added FoW and UWFactions was out
- Hundred of new skills, complete new continents, two new professionsNightfall was only 2-3 months away.
- hundreds of more skills, another whole continent, two new professions.Compared to GW2, where after 18 months we have.
- Fractals
- two new skills
- one new dungeon path, but they removed the old one.
- nothing else that’s been permanent. This is the complaint.
gee, what happened here? incompetency?
I like this build if you want to play support.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p3AzFX-VUqk
and this if you are still leveling
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h7g78BllcxY
but just to make things clear, make a full zerk set as people will expect you to have it.
If you want to appease the eastern crowd, you need to have a design setting that is native to them. Simple marketing. Cantha please.
