Full zerkers or gtfo, that is what people will tell you. And don’t worry about the change to crit damage because zerk will still be the meta unless anet completely changes the mechanics of this game, which will not happen. Going tanky will only pull the group behind.
Just give me one more slot. Is that asking for too much?
Stats matter when they give a clear advantage, Ascended armor by itself not including ascended trinkets do not give a clear advantage in this game. If you can prove that if 1 player with ascended armor and another with exotics that the player will 100% beat the other player in a 1v1 with exotics Ill hear you out. Or have any numerical real world advantage outside a calculator or spread sheet id eat my words.
Do you not understand how stats work or something? If someone has 50 power more than someone else, then they are 50 power stronger. It’s not hard math.
And without context, 50 power more is just 50 power more. A meaningless number.
Right. Say it takes and average of 10 hits to kill something. Ascended zerk armor have 14 more power, 11 more precision, and 1% more crit damage. From a pool of say 2000 power (if you spec for DPS), do you think that difference will bring the average down to 9 hits? I don’t think so. Maybe it will bring the average down to 99 from 100 hits.
as shown in the math literally right above you… it would take the hits down a lot more than that… ~14% damage increase for zerkers.
2000 health 10 hits to kill so an average of 200 dmg per hit is what you are saying. 200*1.14 = 228 dmg
That lowers it all the way down to 8.77 hits from 10.
I was just talking about the armor. I am for getting ascended weapons which is worth it imo. It’s the armor that requires so much to get so little. It’s crazy enough to get armor crafting to 500, let alone all the stuff needed to make the entire armor set just to get 14 more power. To add 14 power to 2000, that’s like less than 1% increase.
“Ascended gear is there because something was needed to entice people to keep playing the game.”
“Ascended gear isn’t enticing because it’s such a minor stat boost.”
The cognitive dissonance in this community is strong.
Even if it is abysmal, it is enough to keep the sheeps going.

You don’t need Ascended armor. The stat increase over Exotics is minor. So if you’ve given up on getting these, you can still play the game as normal.
People like you are the reason wurm can’t be beaten.
Yes the stats do matter. They offer a 5-15% damage increase. That is a HUGE amount of damage when everything in this game is a dps race.
If you don’t think that much damage matters then please don’t show up to the wurm event or any timed event that is introduced from this point forward.
People like you is what makes me happy that ArenaNet hasn’t implemented gear inspection, and also has kept ‘raids’ open world!
why? if raids were instanced you and all your friends in blues could get together and do the content? oh wait… no you couldn’t because you rely on the people in ascended to carry you through the current open world content already…
Then people with real lives would quit this game and GW2 will be filled with stuck up elitists.
Elitists will play the game regardless as long as there is gear progression/grind. It just satisfies their self-centered ego, and they are so eager to push that upon others. But once Anet allows those players to discriminate the people that have jobs/friends/life, it will 100% nail the coffin for the game.
didn’t you guys get the memo? No new content until GW3 :P
All of this is true. Its mind boggling that these game companies fail to learn from previous games and past mistakes. This game had the promise of actually not repeating the mistakes of previous games and other developers…simply by abandoning the trinity, but here we are with them failing in another key area of previous games. They will never be able to balance pve and pvp with the same rules. There are so many examples of how this has failed in the past…why keep trying to do it and end up chasing your customers away?
tell me, what is the definition of insanity?
It’s be funny so have an anti stack grenade that knocks everyone out 1200 in all directions. No damage to keep it fair. Would be a sight to see lol
Will i get the chance to Refund all my Bezerk armour when Ferocity hits us?
im full bezerker…
and… what are you gonna make that will do the job better?
makes too much sense
Though I understand this is an incremental change to move from the dps meta, nerfing stuff like vigor obviously want us to dodge less. Perhaps they will emphasize on healing/support more. Moving away from DPS is certainly a step closer to the holy trinity imo.
Why? They have stated time and time again that the over-all damage decrease will be 10% and that it will still be the best DPS equipment in the game. No point in switching.
Agree.
But that was the intention for anet to implement this, in hopes that the DPS meta will be more “diversified”.
How many of you would drop your zerker gear and switch over to another set after the crit dmg nerf? Keep in mind that it still is the fastest way to kill mobs.
It doesn’t matter. With the game mechanics the same, would you even consider rolling another gear set? Ask yourself that.
Even if Anet redistributes the ferocity lost stats to improve other stats you will lose dps and gain more defense. Celestial will loses way more dps than berserker because of the change to ferocity. People get this set because it leans more to offense than defense. With the re-balancing that will change.
I prefer that the ferocity lost be distributed just to the offensive stat and the defensive stats stay the same. That way celestial would be similiar to how it is now. A small lost to dps and the defense of the gear stays the same.
That won’t happen because the sole concept of celestial is to have “equal stat” across the board. crit dmg was an exception because it was calculated by %.
I’m sure the stats will be adjusted, but it will be a miniscule amount.
I’m also baffled at why this gear is time gated. It makes it look important, but the outcome is utter shrinkage.
Just wait for GW3 already. You can continue on from there.
So what if zerker gear got nerfed? It doesn’t change the fact that it still kills the mobs the fastest out of any gear set, and that is how the game was designed to be played. Anet just needs to make the other stats “just” as important.
I also agree with raising the stats on celestial to compensate for the huge crit dmg nerf. There I thought the purpose of nerfing crit damage is to change the pve meta. Otherwise I just don’t see the point nerfing crit damage. It is already a inferior build + set in pvp and wvw.
Anyways, just so you know, among the 3 direct dam stats (power, precision, and crit dam) Crit dam is ranked 3rd in turn of effectiveness. If they do want to nerf the direct dam sets, power is a better option. By nerfing a stat that’s already less effective, Anet is is basically making ferocity’s relative worth a lot less than other stats.
This means is that if I am interested in any type of balanced build I would stay away from Zerker or any set with ferocity in it, which effectively wasted my time and effort in making my current zerker and celestial pieces. If I can reelect, I will prob go with mostly solider and knights, and only keep a few zerker pieces.
yeah, I understand ya. I was just pointing out how the nerf would not solve anything. If they lower the major stat(power), then all other major stats in other gear needs to go down too. It’s just the way anet designed the whole gear stat system.
Maybe they just need to implement a system where there are diminishing returns when you go past a certain power level so that using all berserker won’t be optimal anymore.
I’m excited for the pick that gives me free ectos.
I wanted to stop by and say thanks for the feedback. We do feel that the celestial stat set will be hit the hardest with the upcoming critical damage changes, so we are looking at possibly boosting the overall stats by a small amount.
Also the celestial stat set in PvP is using a much lower stat multipliers than the PvE versions so we will be looking at changing this as well. Nothing is set in stone, but I wanted to let guys know this is something we are discussing.
What might be a better ‘2 moas with one stone’ solution is to FIX the Giver’s armor by turning Boon Duration into a stat rather than a percent value (same fix as crit magnitude -> Ferocity) and then add that stat to Celestial.
I like this.
I rather see an increase across the board. But we will get like… +10 total for the entire set lol.
last time Teq was alive and well, with not one soul fighting it. Same goes for the Wurms. They are just chillin.
DPS will always be the king in the way anet designed the game, and it won’t be changing for a very long time(until GW3). Zerker all the way.
Guys, stop wasting your time arguing about celestial when it is an absolute truth that it was, is, and will be rubbish gear.
Prepare to get kicked if you are not rolling the DPS meta.
Guys, just realize the fact that celestial gear was intended to be a joke. It was destined to be garbage, created by garbage ideas. It also takes a full month to create a set, which is another slap in the face. Salvaging the mats on it has more value. This is anet’s answer. Move on.
Don’t worry, once the game starts to sink faster than the titanic, they will release cantha in a last ditch effort.
Since the underlying game mechanic will not be changed, and never will, the DPS meta will still be the answer to pve. Everything else will be garbage.
The fact that zerker gear will still do more damage, even after the crit nerf, and game mechanics unchanged, nothing will change the DPS meta.
There has to be a game changing reason to take for example, toughness, as an important stat to kill more efficiently.
Guess they decided to scrap the whole idea.
Anet, We need an answer.
If you want to nerf celestial? That’s fine, but allow us to reelect a different stat. Actually better yet, just remove celestial all together in the game. With the crit damage nerf, no one in their right mind is going to use this crap.
You have to realize all this is due to Ascended armor being so time + resource intensive. With Exotics, I’ll just buy another set.
It is ironic that people stop playing because they don’t want to grind more in a supposedly no-grinding MMO. This is when you know you failed Anet.
+1 I’ve been accumulating charged quartz for the set, but stuff like this is a real let down. If anet does nerf the crit dmg on celestial, there is no reason to have it in the game anymore, just wasted data.
The difference here is that zerker is used by like 90% of all players in pve so there’s going to be a backlash depending on how hard it gets nerfed.
Come on guy, 90%? Be realistic. PvE is broad, and I would wager not even 20% of the population that does dungeons run full zerk.
wouldn’t count on that. Just look at the zerker gear prices at the TP and you see how high of a demand they are.
Why? Have you ever thought about them changing how it works so they can give a little more to things like ascended armor?
Maybe the turn the % in a number and allow critical damage to be into the decimal places? So 100 critical damage turns out to be 1%. So maybe ascended might have 120?
Don’t bother posting until you watch the stream. Your wasting your time.
Players are complaining about zerk meta and they want to change zerk meta so tell me how can you make someone not play a build if you change it and not nerf it? If they chnage it in a way that will get the same dmg ,who played zerk before will still play zerk.
No matter what they do to gear or stats, DPS will still be favored simply because of the game mechanics.
whoa, you guys talking about GW3?
Major change to game mechanics? Not gonna happen.
Anet will just band-aid the problem until GW3.
That would only promote he holy trinity play style.
Sorry but anets vision is all for one, zerker for all.
+1
Oh BOY! I can’t wait for the complete halving of crit damage on zerk gear!!
You know it’s coming. They’re going to nerf it into the ground, not because it needs to be nerfed, but because the other specs are so disgustingly useless.
I know this is speculation, but let’s be honest, we all know it’s coming. This kind of fix wont boost other specs, only enforce zerk further.
This won’t fundamentally change anything. zerk gear will still out damage other gear, which this game’s main emphasis is based on(damage dealing). Unless there is a fundamental change to the game mechanics, no nerfing will change the outcome.
You just have to kill them before they kill you. The game’s current mechanics uses a greater return on attack power than armor. You just have to find the fastest way to kill mobs during that 2-3 dodge rolls you have. The answer is simple: limit dodging(10sec cool down), have toughness/armor have an exponential effect for damage mitigation, and give smarter enemy attacks. The factor here to make armor more effective/necessity and mob mechanics
(edited by Asumita.2174)
A dead guardian has 0 dps and 0 support. AH keeps you alive (supposed to). But guess what, you don’t need it. The fact that you can speed run dungeons with a full DPS group is the problem.
What is even the zerker issue…
After reading dozens of pages and endless posts, I still have no idea. I get the issues with the mobs lack of tactics, AI, skills. I get the issues with many of the bosses being a joke. But I’m still 100% lost on why zerker gear is a (real) issue.
Zerker is not the issue. It’s just the way the game is designed that lets zerkers get away with it. Other mmos, zerkers get ripped apart like paper mache, so they need other professions to keep them alive. Hence, the other gears/builds are just as valuable. Having no holy trinity for balance, the game play style will tip to one side.
What is the purpose of this game? TO TAKE DOWN MOBS AS FAST AS YOU CAN. The strongest defense is a strong offense. Even if they nerfed DPS builds, it will still be the choice since the mechanics have not changed. It won’t help buffing the other stats like toughness or healing if there is no need for it. There has to be a bigger penalty for being a glass cannon. Like an un-dodgeable AOE insta-kill if you have less than a set number of armor points for a class. Hope Anet is listening, they are not gonna get off easy on this one.
More exciting living story and temporary areas!
Bottom line: They wrote the manifesto, so they can breach the manifesto too. This world is full of double standards.
The game was doing very well until they started with Living Story. The player die off is more than coincidental to what many find to be failed game design.
Living Story killed the game for me and my small guild. Not just is the form of adventure by checklist content repugnant, but it’s anathema to the core foundations that made this game so incredible at launch.
When they Kill Living Story and Devote future content creation to a vast expansion of Dynamic Events across the beautiful, but now stale, game world, they will have a chance to recapture the potential this game originally represented.
As long as they embrace the death spiral that is the failed Living Story concept, there isn’t much hope.
As a long time MMO vet, the frustrations related to this are difficult to impart. Many have been waiting for a game like GW2 since the genre first spawned and the potential for the medium became evident. The game, at launch, was somewhat akin to The Holy Grail of MMO design.
To see the Water of Life poured from the Grail, so that it can be used as a beer stein for drinking cheap swill is just demoralizing.
No truer words have been said.
wow, just love the attitude of the people here. “either dedicate your life or take a hike”
Oh, and if you turned your life away from this game, please don’t ever come back, and we will make sure you don’t.
This is one of the major FAIL aspects of this game. So a player missed out on a LW event, wanted to do some catch up, but then denied access to the content at no wrong doing of the player. And Anet’s response to that is “your fault for not loyally playing the game” is just a slap to the user’s face. Many of my friends quit because of this.
If you understood human psychology and the principles of motivation, you would see that reaching a goal simply leads to complacency -> and then boredom. Which just drives you to seek a new goal (to alleviate that boredom)…and the cycle continues.
The only way to escape it, is to realize you can’t….and stop trying to. Stop fighting it. Surrender. Enjoy the now, don’t chase after the future, and don’t look to the past. If what your doing isn’t fun, simply move on to what is. You have the power to control your emotional state, if you seek happiness, go get it. Don’t complain, don’t try and change what you have no control over, change what you do have control over.
Heck, maybe I graduated from playing MMOs. Yeah, I got the best weapon, best armor, yada yada. At the end, it didn’t matter. It felt empty. It had no real-life value for all the time and effort put in. Perhaps I finally plugged out of the matrix.
Bottom line is, if can’t dedicate a good portion of your life into this game, you won’t get the good stuff. But if you cherish your private life, you can always buy gems to get gold to keep up with the lifers. See where this is going? Or you can just quit.
anet is fully aware that humans are irrational creatures, and exploiting it efficiently.
