Good bye.

Can you please send me all your gold and anything really expensive? You have my account.

All the very best,

EvilSardine.9635

Nope, sorry :P Everything is going down with the ship. And the good bye isn’t meant to be a threat of an exodus or mass exodus as much as an unfortunate parting. I don’t want to leave, but what would you think if you’ve spent over $100 or so on these town clothing items? Or even just $5? Is it really irrational to leave because something you’ve spent a large sum of money on is rendered entirely useless? How can you trust this company? It’s been happening on minor scales for awhile now. Things I thought of as useless. Glory boosters, swim speed boosters, instant trait reset token things from the store. Surely not town clothes, I said. Surely that would be a safe investment for the life of the game, I said.

I could not, in my wildest dreams, have predicted that this would happen. Only when they removed these items in December did I start feeling the uneasy feeling that something dreadful was going to happen — although I could not rationalize anything as bad as this occurring.

Here is some more official information on the Wardrobe and Town Clothes (and Dyes) for those that may still have questions:

https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/45889307-Dyes

https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/46419166-Wardrobe

https://help.guildwars2.com/entries/45944258-Town-Clothes

Hope that clears up some of the questions. =)

Yep! Thanks. Looks like I’ll get my refunds ASAP and then uninstall this game. Too much of an unwarranted, drastic, and expensive negative change.

You know, I know there are people out there that crafted two Incinerators so they could have one in either hand. Now the wardrobe will change that. I know there are people, like myself, that bought tons of the expensive dyes on all their characters. Now the revamped dye system will change that.

It’s fine. But this is removing and destroying the functionality of something. No longer are these items remotely usable in the way they used to be. No one wants an endless clothing tonic that “cannot be mixed or dyed”. No one. Not compared to what we had originally.

So, good game. You’ll give us gems when we get a refund. You’re not losing any money over this. Nice scam, really nice. And you won’t even refund the “outfits” because, apparently, in your eyes they’re still at least remotely functional. To me, they’ll be trash after this update.

Who is to say you won’t flip your lid over something else unpredictable and ruin it? This change to town clothing is asinine. Everything else sounds great. Too bad.

Good bye.

(Once again, no rudeness intended at the developers, but this change is asinine. It’s insane. It is literally unwarranted and a giant hulk-sized leap backwards.)

Ex) Town Clothes Tonics. The only thing we know for sure, is that items previously removed from the Gem Store, will now be tonics. However, it hasn’t been made clear what happens to the players that already own said clothing. Judging by the article, it sounds like these single pieces will function as single piece skins.

Town Clothes sold through the gem store as outfits, such as the Pirate Captain’s Outfit, will be usable as a single outfit skin through the Wardrobe. Purchasing an outfit will unlock it for all characters on your account to use. Outfits will replace the look of equipped armors, are equipped in a separate appearance slot, and do not require Transmutation Charges to use. Single items, such as the Fuzzy Hats and Scarlet’s Spaulders, will be unlocked for your entire account and usable with any armor weight. Some basic clothing items that are no longer available for purchase will be converted into endless tonics.

Some basic clothing items that are no longer available for purchase will be converted into endless tonics.

Converting an item implies… converting something from one format to a different format. In this case, a tonic. With the slight elaboration on page one, I don’t see how it isn’t safe to make this conclusion.

They actually were answering questions in this very thread, right up until it devolved into nasty posts insulting them over what is, almost entirely, pure speculation on the part of the players.

While nasty posts are never appropriate or constructive — the details are actually fairly clear. It isn’t pure speculation, and it has been elaborated on enough to see that this system is going to be a very big issue for town clothing.

I didn’t say it was pure speculation. I said it was almost entirely pure speculation. That lack of reading comprehension is what has derailed this whole thread.

Ok, word games much? The context and meaning of my post would not change a single bit had I added “almost entirely” in it to exactly correspond to you. In fact, we agree that it isn’t pure speculation; so what is the problem? Having unbreakable outfits — something that is confirmed — is still going to be a major problem when past freedoms of town clothing are taken into consideration. Also, this thread hasn’t derailed until now. Maybe you should practice what you preach instead of popping into threads and insinuating that people are illiterate.

Will be a lot of compatibility issues

Then keep town clothing as it is now. I’m almost 100% sure the people that use and love town clothing would rather keep the system as is than receive the small “benefit” of being able to wear globular, un-mixable, outfits in combat. If you can even call it a benefit that you will no longer be able to mix or separate your outfits (Pirate/Cook/etc). The cons greatly outweigh the, even then, arguable pros when town clothing is concerned.

I’m confused. I currently have the kahki shorts on my Norn, when this change is made is it going to be replaced by a tonic? Will that Tonic just replace the pants on my character with the shorts or will or will it now change all my clothes with something they think goes with the shorts?

Also I bought glasses for several of my characters, are they becoming tonics? will it swap all my clothes just because I want to put some glasses on?

That right there is the question that people keep asking that we’re waiting for clarification on. Because right now, it looks like you’ll be stuck with undyeable, unmixable tonics. I’m holding out hope that they’ll be more specific and say that’s not true.

It, unfortunately, probably is true. It sounds bad because it is bad. That’s also why they probably removed most of the individual town clothes months ago. They knew their “solution” was going to be bogus. Just keep the “Town Clothes” panel and use it as how a wardrobe system is used in most other games, sheesh. They can keep their new Armored Wardrobe System and we can have a Squishy (Town Clothing) Wardrobe System similar to GW1. Make all pieces in the Squishy Wardrobe have a visibility toggle, and when it’s on it will override their corresponding look in the Armored Wardrobe.

People are going to be running around in fuzzy wintersday outfits, executioner outfits, cook outfits, pirate outfits, fuzzy hats, bloody prince outfits, mad king outfits, and witch outfits, but a hoodie and shorts and bare feet (or whatever) is not ok? You want to wear your shorts? That’s cool. Well, we designed the shorts tonic to be “Barf Turquoise” colored, and you’re going to be forced to wear Layered Vest (“Neon Smurf” colored) and “Rotting Orange” Riding Boots.

What? Really? This is better than the previous system? Comparable?

Give. Me. A. Break.
(I don’t mean for this post to come off as rude, but I don’t understand how this renovation to the Town Clothing system even became a concept.)

I’m sorry, but I think this concept (specifically regarding the conversion of town clothes into tonics) needs to go back to the drawing board. That is extremely ridiculous. I wear my town clothes outside of towns very often — all of them mixed. I’ve also bought tons of, and duplicates of, the shorts, tops, and headgear. I even use the Dragon Shirt from before the game launched. I have a defined look that is the way I want to look. I didn’t dream that town clothes functionality would actually become worse. Please don’t do this. Make town clothes applicable individually rather than into tonics or do nothing at all to town clothes.

What you seem to miss is that it’s not about my opinion.
It’s about the reasonability that people can be appalled by this.

And apparently a lot of people here only care about themselves and show absolutely empathy towards the possibility of this.

It is about your opinion. People can be offended, and will purposefully choose to be offended, by anything. You can be appalled that all grass isn’t red, that trees don’t grow upside down, and that the ocean isn’t made out of soda.

The pot calls the kettle black once again; it is extremely selfish that you would seek to have this armor revamped to fit your own personal agenda.

And, finally, I have no idea whatsoever why this thread is still around. The original post was aggressive as was your subsequent posts, and this topic can only lead to non-constructive replies. I think it is easy enough to say this should not happen — ever.

I hate it when people start absurd and radical topics just to stir up animosity.

I know it’s the principle of putting cultural armor sets on the gem store, but to me the new fiery C3 looks vastly inferior to its in game counterpart. To me, no offense to the artists, it looks like a cheapened Cultural 3 set — and that’s exactly what it is. Why not let other races enjoy the general aesthetics of the set, as long as that kindness is reciprocated to the human race as well some day? Humans are still unique; their natural non-fiery armor just looks better, to me.

Taking character themes, summer, and tattoos into consideration I hope they will implement some of the ideas from this thread. Maybe they can put some restrictions on WvW or such if they find it necessary. I had forgotten entirely about Norn having tattoos; it’s probably because I never actually see them (with exception to the NPCs).

GIVE ME THE OPTION TO SHOW MY GLOVES OVER MY TOP.

Hopefully this thread will manage to stay afloat among all the nerf/buff/mounts/armor threads.

Athena.3579

There was a lot of agitation for hiding gloves in the first few months of the game. I’m very please to be able to do so now as it can enhance the effect of an outfit or keep you from looking silly with something big and clunky on your hands added to a frilly top.

Plus, for RP, now I can emote removing my gloves without having to haul them over to my bags!

Yah, I agree. Fortunately I was finally able to settle on a pair of fingerless gloves I found a few months ago. But now I don’t need them at all! Yay! I’m getting closer to customizing my character(s) the way I actually want them to look rather than what is available.

Hopefully they’ll take notice of one of these threads and consider patching in one or two more hide options while it is on their minds. I’m afraid if we stop mentioning it, any more hiding options will be forgotten about and it just won’t ever happen.

I think hideable boots is better than gloves anyhow. A lot of boots look awkward on Charr & Asura.

Yeah, that’s why I’ve been advocating boots so much. I can see the feature being used a lot and I think it’s much less controversial than hiding pants/tops/aqua breather. I haven’t seen any qualms so far regarding boots, but with the others there are a few reasons. Class identity on the go is a major one. Helmets, shoulders, gloves, and boots really don’t identify a class immediately, but pants and tops constitute a major part of an outfit.

I really like Crash Test Auto’s suggestion to only allow a top OR pants to be hidden, but not both at the same time. Class identity is maintained and the character won’t be running around in their full underwear. The problem with that is it seems it would, potentially, take a bit more in depth development because of the underwear and the coloring scheme. With helmets, shoulders, gloves, and boots, there is only skin (hair/fur?) underneath. With the tops and bottoms there is underwear underneath for some races/genders. So to make an outfit look right they may want to add some sort of advanced underclothing coloring system before implementing a system where tops and bottoms can be hidden, possibly. Whereas with boots I would guess it could be done relatively easily — and look like a fully added feature — without it looking clunky (like the gloves).

I do hope they continue to add things like this. Them deciding to add hide/show gloves seemed random as far as I could tell, but I’m really glad they did. I’ve made a suggestion here that they add an option for boots to be hidden as well since it can be viewed as a complimentary feature to hide/show gloves and really fits into the fantasy setting also.

My main concern with a hide/show for tops and pants would be that others would abuse the feature and just run around entirely naked. Although it can be done already, it would really encourage it too much in my opinion and have negative impacts on others’ immersion. I think hiding hats/shoulders/gloves and hopefully boots is actually in good taste for a fantasy game. It also adds another layer of customization and a personal touch without straying too far from what’s already in the game (and it’s not entirely distracting/startling either).

We see shirtless Norn all the time though, and in another thread I mentioned my male elementalist friend was really striving for an Avatar look, so he fights without his shirt on all the time despite a large stat loss and losing out on receiving all of his bonuses from his runes. It’s a really good look, but on the other hand there would be people wandering around naked just for the sake of being naked.

Hide/Show Boots Option

in Suggestions

Posted by: Athena.3579

Athena.3579

I really liked the implementation of the hide/show gloves option in the patch today. I think it contributes to adding another layer of character customization and character tweaking. It’s just an additional something to make a character a little more unique. I posted in a thread in the general section about adding more hide/show options for other pieces of armor (like shoes/pants/tops), but I wanted to formally add an addition to the suggestion forum while this sort of addition is fresh on everyone’s minds.

Since I have a feeling that a hide/show pants and shirt option would be abused (admittedly the hide shirt option would go very well for those seeking a monk-like look), I decided to just make this topic specifically about hiding shoes, since it still holds up well to the characters already in the game, holds the integrity of the game (no one running around in their underwear), and will also add another layer of character customization. So, since a hide/show gloves option was added (many thanks!), why not also a hide/show boots option?

Queen Jennah and a surprising amount of freezing Norn approve of this message.

New hide/unhide glove option

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Athena.3579

Athena.3579

This is great! I think they should also add a hide aqua breather and shoes option too. I’m a bit iffy on the pants and shirt option, but my male friend wanted to run around shirtless and look like Aang the Avatar, so. I can see his point.

I do hope they add a hide shoes and aqua breather option, though. Although the hide aqua breather may go against the Guild Wars 2 canon since there would be a lack of explanation for breathing underwater. I would think hide shoes would be a definite possibility and probability considering how many characters are barefoot in fantasy settings.

An unexpected, but welcome, addition to the armor customization suite. Thank you!

Thoughts on Ascended Gear? [Merged threads]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Athena.3579

As many others have said, I don’t understand why they can’t just treat Ascension in GW2 as they treated Infusion in GW1. Why can’t we just “infuse” our current exotics into ascended somehow? They could keep the exact same stats as the exotics and have this resistance slot to assist in PvE content. I don’t understand why I’ll soon have to replace every single piece of 80 exotics on all my characters. I’ve also bought and used fine transmutation stones on my armor, so I guess you want me shelling out more cash to transmute my Ascended armor/weapons again? And in another three months you’ll want me doing this again because the crack addicts can’t find any other way to occupy themselves? This blows. I don’t even want to work on my other characters for exotics now. They’ll just be replaced for optimization soon anyways. Actually, why should I even play at all if in a year everything I do and pay for now will just be obsolete?

I had zero problem with how Guild Wars 1 progression worked. I was more than happy to buy a DLC pack as soon as it came out and to buy costumes, etc. I could always jump into the game immediately and be at maximum efficiency.

My initial reactions to this are less than enthusiastic… Far less, but we don’t know everything there is to know about this yet. I’m not sure why they were so vague with such an announcement that could have a very large impact on the game. If this is a full new tier (ascended weapons, ascended accessories, ascended armor, etc), then the implications down the line aren’t too promising either. Am I going to have to buy more fine transmutation stones every time you create a new rarity tier? I also, eventually, wanted to have all the different classes in full exotics at 80. Am I only to be concerned with one character now? I’m not excited about the possibility of having to choose only one character to have the maximum optimization of stats possible. If this new tier is above exotics and is more powerful, which the initial release of information claims, then I’ll barely have time to get my main character in check if the items are more difficult to get than exotics (which I’d obviously assume they would be).

TL;DR
I’m not super happy about this. The core philosophies that made me interested in Guild Wars 2 seem to be changing depending on who can scream the loudest. It appears on a whim that a new and better tier has just manifested itself over night. It is regrettable, but if this game is going to transform into World of Warcraft, and company, then I would rather take my leave now and save myself the time/trouble/money.

Multiple Guild Chat Channels

Posted by: Athena.3579

Athena.3579

Since it is slightly annoying being in multiple guilds and only being able to see the chat of the represented guild, I was wondering if it would be possible in the future to allow us to view chat for all guilds were are in. For example if one guild tag is [Cooo] we could type /cooo to chat in that guild channel specifically, but also see other guild chats concurrently. If this were to happen, it would also be interesting if in the chat options we could enable/disable viewing these specific guilds as we would if we were disabling/enabling map, say, etc.

I also understand that the same guild tags may be used by other guilds. If a character belonged to multiple guilds using the same tag, it may be possible to add a number next to the tag pertaining to the order it is represented in the guild tab? For example:
Quaggan Coo [Coo] = /coo
Quaggan Sad [Coo] = /coo2

Reserved Guild Wars Character Names

I haven’t seen a thread regarding this in a few days, so I thought I’d make a new one to hopefully get some information. When are unclaimed Guild Wars 1 names going to be unreserved/freed up? It is starting to get annoying waiting for an unclaimed, but reserved name, to be freed for use.

Hey everyone. I was also hoping that the names would have been unlocked by now. I do understand they have been having issues though. On the other hand, it has been nearly two weeks — a lot longer than just 24 hours after the 28th. I sent in a question to the support team a little less than a week ago and they answered my question last night. Here is what they told me:

“At this time we are currently working on other features, and we would encourage you to create your character and start playing with it, as it will still be a little while until we release the Guild Wars 1 reserved names to use on Guild Wars 2. We also encourage you to link your Guild Wars 1 account to Guild Wars 2 if you have yet to do so. This feature will surely be available. I hope this information is useful to you. If you have any further questions or concerns, let us know.”

I’m in the same boat wanting to hold off making my character because I want a name that is reserved but unclaimed in GW2. Hopefully they will be able to give us an official date before too long, although I was hoping the names would be unlocked this weekend.

Guild Wars 1 Names Still Reserved?

Heya, I know there have been a lot of problems regarding people logging in, making characters, and staying logged in. That being said, it has been over a week since the game launched and Guild Wars 1 names are still reserved in Guild Wars 2 — despite being unused in Guild Wars 2. I remember reading somewhere (something official) that the names would only be reserved for 24 hours after launch, but I could definitely be mistaken. Regardless, has there been any ETA on when the names will be unlocked? I apologize in advance if this has been answered, but I haven’t seen any information regarding this post-launch, and I’m really hoping to begin this weekend.
