Is Ranger Longbow really this bad?

Well it’s just a general observation that I made that it has no unique secondary effect like every other weapon in the game.

But you’re right, having rapid shot and the AE is great and it’s the main reason I use the weapon over the shortbow simply because I feel like I’m doing more than auto-attacking all day.

But you will notice the lack of the snare, daze, and evasive shot very quickly in PvP.

I’m not 80 yet and haven’t done much PvP, but from what I have done I honestly can’t imagine ever playing with anything but a greatsword for the mobility alone. I also off-hand a sword+horn/shield because of the mobility issue.

I really wish things like bull charge had a 1200 range but only knocked over maybe the first target or something. If the class had more mobility I wouldn’t feel so limited in my options.

Is Ranger Longbow really this bad?

Question: Is the Ranger Longbow the only weapon in the entire game with an auto-attack without some secondary effect built in?

It doesn’t bleed, it doesn’t bounce or pierce, it doesn’t shoot 2 shots, etc. The only thing it has is the ability to do less damage than the short bow at anything but max range, and barely do the same damage at max range?

If the Shortbow is the ranger’s condition weapon of choice, why can’t the Longbow be the ranger’s power/crit/anything weapon of choice?

Interview About Ranger Pets

Pets just need to move faster, take significantly less damage from AE, use thier abilities instantly when pushing the F2 button (and dart into range if the F2 requires a melee range), and actually retreat when told and retreat in a straight line back to the ranger.

If these things were done, the pet would almost be useable and we could start to justify how large a damage handicap this class has at the expense of the pet.

Class still has some of the worst skills in the game.
Some of the worst traits in the game.
Some of the worst trait placement in the game.

^Could you elucidate briefly on what “being productive” would mean to you within the game? Thanks!

Also, you forgot to discredit the karma vendors in Orr while ruling out all the potential ways to get gear.

On my server I think we did it once, and only the grenth chain iirc. Never seen the others run. So yea, thanks for the heads up. And I do acknowledge that I’m on a backwater server that no one plays on because of how disheartening it is to zone into WvW.

But yea, by productive I mean I could PvP for 5 hours a day for a week straight and probably not get enough badges to buy a single piece of gear, let alone a whole set in triplicate. thank god for sPvP or I’d be picking things at random because I’d have no idea what stats I want. But again, this is server specific as far as WvW is concerned as when your zerg of 15 to 20 runs into their zerg of 60 right out the gate, you find people don’t come back for round 2.

But dungeons are painful to run. There is no skill involved because there are no tanks/healers. You just run in and zerg through the waves of mobs that each spam nothing but knockbacks and knockdowns dying every other pull until you finally get to a scripted boss fight that’s easier than the trash was getting to it. Or worse, you fight through some insanely stupid scripted encounter only to build a bunch of guns and harpoons that you don’t even need to use on the boss encounter! Now some people may enjoy this and as you get more and more gear this stuff no doubt gets easier and easier. For example, my Fractals 40+ ranger does much better than my 43 Warrior in AC. But I honestly can’t stand running the dungeons because of how stupid they’re designed and when all is said and done I need to do them 5-10 times for enough badges for 1 piece of gear as 9 times out of 10 the loot I get in the instance is awful or can’t be used at all.

Productive would be more in line with how WoW works that at the end of the run I was given enough tokens to buy at least one piece of gear. Or in AC where I would loot a chest at the end that had a static piece (path 1 always drops a chest based loot determined by the class you play so it’s always the right type of chest).

There are a lot of variables at work for me on this subject.

For starters, the easiest way to get gear is to craft exotics, but that costs a lot of money and takes a lot of time to farm resources. 2 things that I’m not good with.

The second easiest way to get gear is to run dungeons, but the dungeons is this game are so horrendously designed and painful to complete, I just can’t be bothered to do more than one a week or so. Without specific roles, they had to scale down the instances so they were mindless zergs. To add an element of difficulty they made every single mob in the game knockback where you spend half the instance on your back or dead.

The next would probably be fractals which are mix between dungeons above and annoying scripted encounters that not every class can accomplish well and most people need to spend an hour talking about an event just to do a 10min run.

The next would be random world drops like dragon chests which have a 1 in 10 chance to drop a yellow. That yellow has a 1 in 3 chance of actually being useable. And then you have to worry about it using stats you’re interested in.

That least effective way to get gear is PvP. Now this isn’t the case for everyone. But I play on Ferg. And on this server we’re grossly outnumbered 3:1 on a good day and most people have lost interest in it where we only have about 2 hours a day with truly active pvp happening (by active I mean zerg vs zerg).

And worse still with all the karma and badges you get, you still need obscene amounts of gold to get items which is hard to comeby unless you’re one of a select few that found a precursor you could sell.

So all that said, this game is very casual friendly when it comes to seeing everything there is to see and doing everything there is to do. The problem comes when you actualy expect to be rewarded for this kind of investment and that’s where my complaints are. I just feel like I play for 2+ hours a day and I wasn’t the least bit productive because I didn’t gain a level, I didn’t do a dungeon, I got 50 or fewer pvp badges, and I can’t get anything with the ‘loot’ for at least a month of ‘grinding’.

For now WvW is still fun though, but a time will come when it’s a chore and if I still haven’t decided on a main or I still haven’t accumulated a fair bit of gear, I’ll just up and quit because the content additions, game balances, and direction this game are going aren’t really allowing me to be productive.

While these things are good, the class actually has good skills and elite options that trying to fit in things like leopard form and pain inverter will be difficult and institutionally useful.

If you were a Elementalist for example, then Norn is a given because the class has absolutely crap elite skills. If you were an engineer than Asura is a given because they have few good active skills.

I fail to see how vapor form is o/p. It allows them to move away much like thieves can. It doesn’t do damage. I also don’t see the problem with vengeance as it’s quite powerful and allows you to still contribute when you’re being zerged off the map.

If you want it to suck like 3/4th of the other downed skills like Rangers, Engineers, Guardians, Etc… then fine. Make a downed shout that would give all allies around you swiftness and a buff to res time.

Allow Rangers to see red dots on map to indicate enemy targets.
Give all classes a passive 25% movement option.
Allow items in inventory to go back to their original location.
Change badges to a currency so they don’t take up bag/bank space.
Remove the annoying sound effects and make them actually turn off (necros, capturing, wings flapping, etc)

Elementalist Weapon Moveset: Sword

in Elementalist

Posted by: Atherakhia.4086

Atherakhia.4086

This class needs a long/mid range single target direct damage option. Not another melee option. A 1 handed sword would be the ideal option for this as it would allow you to choose a compliment in the off-hand to cover some of the short comings like a lack of AE or missing utility.

It would be nice to have some neat animations too to spice things up.

Spitting fireballs.
Dropping an Ice Clone that detonates briefly after being cast.
Summon an ice mirror in front of us to reflect ranged attacks.
A lightning attack where we blinding flash and leap back 600 yards and push it again to lunge at the target with a lightning fist.
Shoot slow moving cyclones at the target and have another earth move shoot a fast moving one that gains damage for each small cyclone it consumes along the path pulling people toward it each time one is consumed.

Just stuff to add some depth and cool animations to this class. Having a ranger and seeing all the awesomeness that is swrd/dagger really leaves you depressed when you play the ele with so few cool looking and engaging abilities.

Dragon's Tooth and ground targeting?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Atherakhia.4086

Atherakhia.4086

It just shouldn’t have a charging time. You cast it and it immediately falls to the ground with no more than a 1 second delay. If it’s ground targeted, then perhaps change phoenix to no longer be ground targeted and you simply push the button and the phoenix erupts from the target and flies back to you hitting everything on its way.

I don’t like the idea of it being ground targeted simply because it would make using a second ground targeted ability (phoenix) right behind it a little difficult to get used to as I don’t think any other attunement or weapon has 2 damage ground targeted attacks, does it? Haven’t played ele in awhile so don’t recall off hand.

And speaking of phoenix, this thing needs to move much more quickly too as it and dragon’s tooth make scepter all but useless in PvP because you need to line them up with a daze/snare which are in short supply for scepter/dagger as the knockdowns will just have them dodge roll with plenty of time to spare out of harms way.

Rush, Bull’s Charge, RTL, and Swoop all work the same way. RTL doesn’t ‘miss’ because the range on the attack is larger. They all have the same navigational things from what I can tell as Rush doesn’t just go in a straight line if the target is moving from what I’ve seen. Swoop on the other hand misses all the time even with its speed because melee range is just too short to hit a moving target unless they’re running toward you.

But yea, Magnetic Grasp had the same issues you guys are complaining about. You would use it and would never land on the target, you would land where the target was or get stuck on terrain, etc etc. Their solution to it was to make it a 2 tier attack which is fine for it because it’s strictly an engaging ability.

On my Warrior I think I’ve used Rush once to actually get into range of an enemy. But my warrior isn’t very high leveled yet so I don’t have that much WvW experience with it or actual play time.

One thing I will say is I don’t think RTL has its range reduced by movement impairing effects. So there must be some kind of mechanical difference in the moves because I’m pretty sure I’ve seen rush move me like 5 feet before. It would be nice if Rush and Bull’s Charge moved quicker and didn’t have any reduction due to movement impairing effects. They should both be 1200 range too. In the case of Bull’s charge, just give it a target cap so you can’t run through more than X people or it will fade or it could only knock over X people but you’d still finish your movement.

But like I said, I’m not a very experienced warrior so when I use these abilities it’s more to get me out of a jam as I don’t have the gear to drop people in 10 seconds like some at only 30.

D/D Trixters vs Predictability PvP

this is why most mock d/d ele’s as there is next to no skill required to suceed with the class. Certainly you can tell the difference between a good one and a bad one, but the damage output and killing potential isn’t that different.

D/D Ele is like the GS Warrior. Both very predictable especially when you see one with 5 sigs on. But run across one that knows what he’s doing and he’ll own your face. Not because he did more damage, but because he outplayed you.

Be very careful what you wish for with Rush and Bull’s Charge. They’ve clearly found a way to resolve the issue of these types of skills missing if you look at grasp for Ele’s Dagger Earth 3 skill Magnetic Grasp. They turned it into a 2 point attack, one to hit the target and imobalize them, the second to leap to the target.

Now this would resolve the issue of missing attacks when using these skills, but these skills serve a much more valuable dual purpose for the Warrior as they’re also used to disengage from the enemy (I’d argue they’re probably used more often for this purpose). If they ‘fix’ these skills like they did with magnetic grasp, it would remove the functionality for using them as disengages unless they somehow keep the logic to move if there isn’t a target selected.

Since this is a PvP game. And PvP is won by burst, ae, and utility. The weapons should have an auto-attack, some burst, and some utility.

The problem is the vast majority of weapons in this game, these supposed burst skills are actually a net dps loss over auto attacking. Shortbow for Rangers for example loses damage from using anything but auto-attack. The poison does no damage and the utility is questionable at best. the other skills have no dps potential.

The longbow on the other hand gains a respectable damage increase from its abilities. However, the damage increase is pointless because the bow doesn’t do near the damage shortbow does.

I’m fine with some weapons being PvE and others being PvP focused, but they should all be useful at something. There are a great deal of weapons that simply aren’t ever worth using.

Ele focus and scepter.
Warrior off-hand sword and axe.
Ranger longbow and off-hand axe.

For starters, I most certainly wouldn’t be a female sylvari as the spinal bolts are quite an eyesore after several months. And with no modest light armor options, I have no option.

I’d almost certainly go Norn because the Elementalist elite abilities are just so freaking useless. At least norn stealth would give me something to use with an actual function. Sylvari turrets are aweful. The non-human pets suck.

Class Balance & Fixes

Yea, they’ve really dropped the ball with the Engineer, Ranger, and Necromancer classes as a whole. While the other classes may not be much better because they also effectively have one working build or one working weapon set, it seems like the game as a whole is just working against the mechanics of Rangers, Engineers, and Necromancers.

And when you sit by patch after patch and see not a thing, and hear not a peep, about the state of these classes you’re left wondering just what’s going on. The only thing we know for certain is they’re looking into AEs. What this means is anyone’s guess and what it could do to certain classes (99.9% of the Elementalists attacks are AE’s) is astronimcal.

It’s about time we started seeing some long-term projections or at least class summaries come out where the team can explain where they feel the class stands, what their vison of the class is, and what they feel are some ways to go about improving it.

It doesn’t have to be that specific to the point where they’ll use the Blizzard patented ‘we don’t tell you because you’ll complain when we don’t live up to our promises’ tripe which 1.) probably isn’t true and 2.) certainly isn’t tested as no one releases monthly projections and instead use the same line every time it’s brought up.

Players understand that some things don’t work out. This isn’t an MMO with money on the line. Hoarding secrets until the day of a patch (and waiting till hours after the patch goes live to even give us a list of notes) isn’t suitable for a game like this. A patch note isn’t going to cause millions of paying subscribers to quit the game.

Considering about half the classes in this game are well below par, I’d prefer they take a real hard look at the skills and traits available to the current classes and improve those to make the current classes more engaging.

Even the stronger classes like Elementalists, Guardians, Warriors, and Mesmers have an enromous number of just flat out useless traits and skills. So many it makes coming up with different spec’s and weapon options a near impossibility because most of the classes above consider 30 (if not 50 or 60 depending who you talk to in the case of the elementalist) points forfeit because the class can’t function without a specific trait.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Atherakhia.4086

I think you’re going to be very disappointed with the support aspect of the ele. It’s there, but it isn’t very engaging because it’s all done automatically with little actual effort from you.

Staff also has no burst damage at all, no real direct damage options, and Ele’s are waiting to see how bad they’re going to be nerfed at the end of this month considering Anet has said they don’t like AE and 99.9% of an Ele’s attacks are AE.

Warrior is also a one trick pony that you will get bored with very quickly if you plan to sit back and spam rifle all day. You really need to stick to Hammer and use the rifle to finish off runners and such. The reason many use GS instead of hammer when doing the rifle build is the burst move for GS is awful so it leaves all your adrenaline there to be used for kill shot, which hurts if you actually land with it.

I’m only 26 levels into actually leveling my own warrior (used friends) and I’m already getting tired of it. I’m tempted to go thief because I want to see large numbers, I want the tools available to deliver my damage AND actualy have a realistic option to get away, and to excel at both large scale battles and roaming.

If you still consider ele, I strongly suggest you wait till at least the end of the month to see what will change for the class. Given ANet’s history, I imagine the ele could be swapping places with Rangers as one of the least effective classes in the game as ANet tends to be quite heavy handed with the nerfs (look at ranger in beta and where it is now if you need proof).

The zerg was by the fort. I was on the middle of the bridge away from everything.
Never left combat probably because the guy I attacked when he was running into the building never died.

I fail to see how this could be abused except in PvE where you could conceivably run far enough from a boss where it couldn’t reach you in 10 seconds. I’ve yet to see where this could legitimately be abused, but I’ve only done fractals for the most part.

This game depserately needs a drop combat button.

Last night in WvW I attacked someone as they were running in their keep with S/D as that’s my playstyle of choice. But once we killed everyone in the front of the wall we had to start attacking the keep. However, I was stuck in combat for 7 mintues when I just sat in the back of the zerg away from everyone while I watched a reinforced gate go from full to 0. I took no damage, no one came near me. I just sat there twiddling my thumbs.

We really need a button that we can channel to force us out of combat. Say a 10 second channel where if I can use it the full 10 seconds without attacking someone, I’m forced from combat and can go back to regening health and can swap weapons and skills.

And what would be the point if the 10man offered the same loot as the 5man? What are you getting for the added difficulty? You can’t make it give better loot because that’s not the type of game this is. It’s also making more content for fewer people as some don’t want/can’t find people to run 5mans successfully so they’re never going to get 10mans done.

Just don’t see the need as it will cause far more harm than good. It’s bad enough you need 10+ people to do some world event content in this game. Last thing we need is ‘raid’ content that only a very small portion of the playerbase would ever want or use.

I can see them focusing on D/D ele AE as that spec is pretty absurd with how easy it is to play. I realize there is a gap between a bad D/D and good D/D ele, but to be effective with D/D all you do is stand close to your target and push anything that isn’t on cooldown and switch to air+rtl if things get rough. When you consider sPvP with very specific objectives that people fight on and limited places to run away, of course a spec/class that merely needs to stand within 300 yards of you to deal 100% of its damage is going to be overpowered. Melee can’t even do this because they have to be much closer, actually face the target, and, in the warrior’s case, don’t have the condition removal to stay in range.

Things like healing yourself when attuning to water. 2k+ heals from blast finishers in water fields. RTL not being on a 20 second cooldown. Every attack being an AE. This is what makes the spec overpowered and very easy to excel with. The only thing we know that isn’t a problem with the spec is the damage as this spec is mostly for bunker builds, but some would argue that for the amount of escapes available, perhaps the damage is too high.

Honestly don’t know how you would fix it, but nerfing the healing seems the most logical place to start.

The warrior is a very simple and straightforward class. If the target doesn’t die by the time you’ve dumped your burst, the warrior is left with nothing to do but twiddle its thumbs waiting for cooldowns to come back up. In a game with such limited/no coordination required, classes like Warriors that are brought to finish targets and soak will always be the first to be left behind.

Simply adding additional condition removal or specing into healing shouts really isn’t going to be enough to fix things. It’s going to be tough for this class to get turned around.

From those classes? Mesmer. Best 1v1 class, great WvW utility, extremely fun when played correctly.
What I really recommend? Ranger. Great roamer, fun to play, has some AoE, just stay at the back of the zerg and press SB 1:you win.

Problem with ranger is 99.9% of your time is SB 1 all day, every day. Class is terrible. It’s hard to explain… the class ‘feels’ like more fun until you realize that you do no damage, have no real burst, your pets are awful, your heal is the only group utility you have, and you have no real escape options so you’re forced to use GS just so you can evade tank and swoop away.

Ranger, Necromaner, and Engineer will always be listed when asking players to name the 3 most worthless classes in this game. You may get some variation when asking what the 3 most overpowered are, but pretty sure everyone will give you the same 3 worst.

Reading my post again I realize it sounded like I was referring to you specifically. However, I was just commenting on the example you provided.

Also, there you go again with “Why? Because I can’t think of a single game where this is the case.” Why should that affect Anet? I don’t understand how you can use this as a valid reason to justify someone not reading the warning. Specifically, here’s the warning you get when you select initial server:

“Are you sure you wish to select [server name] as your permanent home? If you want to move to a different home world in the future you will need to purchase a world transfer.”

I think the meaning of that warning is clear. It specifically says you are choosing a permanent home, and that to transfer you have to purchase a transfer. There are no conditions about that last statement. It is literally saying that you have to pay for transferring, no matter what.

That’s the point though… while clear, it isn’t specific. when reading that, I would presume I’d
1.) Get the same pop-up for each character I make thus allowing me to make a character on any server I want.
2.) Get the same pop-up should I delete that character and recreate it.

And since this screen pops up for the first time when creating a character, these scenarios are reinforced. And since I have 25 years experience playing MMO’s and every single MMO I’ve ever played works in the same way as the 2 scenarios I listed, I can’t be held completely responsible for expecting the game to work this way.

And that’s the point. And why I’d be in favor of ANet sending every player a 1 time use token that can be used to transfer servers and when new players join, this token is waiting for them in the mail.

And for what it’s worth, I’d probably never use the token because I’m quite happy with my current server. Even if it is Ferg’s and we can’t seem to fight our way out of a wet paper bag.

You all seem to be under the assumption I’m one of these people. I’m content with the server I started on, I didn’t bother transferring when they were free, I didn’t plan to transfer when I learned it would cost money with 2 weeks warning. I’m fine.

It doesn’t change the simple fact that it’s poor game design to not allow players a way out. There’s nothing to make you think the server choice would be permanent for your whole account. There would be no logical reason to think deleting all of your characters and remaking them wouldn’t give you the same server selection. Why? Because I can’t think of a single game where this is the case.

If GW2 was out there to start a precedent, I would have hoped it would be at making a fun game and not at screwing new players over. But I guess that’s too much to ask?

No hair off my back.

I presume you’re another one that reads the complete ToS before logging in too.

Nope, your wrong again.
Never read the TOS. No need. The TOS is just common sense in all online games.

-Don’t cheat.
-Don’t be a jerk.
-If it feels wrong, don’t do it.

3 simple rules that should keep you safe in any online game.
BTW, what’s with the TOS anyway? What has that got to do with how you play the game or how transfers work?

It’s also common sense to think that you could choose your server every time you make a character.
It’s also common sense to think that should you delete that character you would then be able to rechoose your server.

what are some good elementalist builds I can look at?

0/10/0/30/30. Most use this regardless of weapon with only slight variation in trait selection. Most consider 30 in arcane to be mandatory. This is also the build many d/d bunkers use which gets them labeled as o/p in sPvP play.

You don’t want an elementalist.

D/D is mind numbingly boring to play, but it’s also the only truly effective way to play. If you want a ranged class, Ele isn’t it. Staff is awful in small scale stuff and is only good for PvE support, WvW walls and zerg. Scepter is very strong and gives great burst, but you’ll land that burst once in a blue mooon in a PvP setting. Dagger is melee ranged, everything is conal AE and all you do is push any button that isn’t on cooldown while trying to stand near the target while you keep things like RTL, Updraft, and Heals on reserve for emergencies.

Mesmer is the only truly effective ranged class in this game right now and I would strongly suggest you choose it. They are wanted in everything from PvE to PvP. They have strong burst and melee options if you want, have great utility, and good burst. they lack AE damage however, but we already know ANet wants to nerf AE in some way that they won’t let us know until 1 hour after it’s been nerfed. Mesmers are probably not going to be hit.

Warrior ranged is ‘ok’ but the class isn’t designed in the greatest way to support a ranged play style. The rifle is very good burst damage, but very poor auto-attacks make it a difficult weapon to really enjoy. Longbow is a much better choice, has great AE and, but lacks the burst damage. Warriors are insanely broken when it comes to burst damage though and if you want to melee, you can’t go wrong. they suffer in melee in zerg battles though due to condition removal.

Thief shortbow is fun, but not really bursty. It’s something you’ll use to escape with and when attacking a wall. It has strong auto attacks though so it isn’t as bad as rifle.

Engineers, like Rangers and Necromancers, are awful right now with the game itself working against them because of all their bugs, poor AI, and the idea that their pets should somehow justify their pathetic damage.

I strongly suggest Mesmer. If you ask anyone to name the 3 most overpowered classes, the majrotiy will say Guardian, Warrior, and Mesmer.

God I hope it doesn’t end. I still do world dragons and large chest events when I can with the hope I eventually get a precursor for the sole purpose of selling it. considering the 3% stat increase a legendary has over a standard exotic I fail to see the point in even bother with it. But so long as people are out there willing to spend 300-500g on the item I hope I get one as 500g in dyes and I may just get the color I’ve been looking for in triplicate so all my alts can have it (please, for all that is holy, make dyes account wide!)

It will soon be more than 3%, most ppl that started it a while back didn’t start it for the stats anyway. You just said you want everyone to suffer and keep having to work more for something others got for free (sometimes in triplicate – karka thing) so you can have 0.1% chance to get 500g AND THEN YOU ASK THEM TO MAKE DYES EASIER TO GET (cost less for more use out of them). NO more comment.

I was right it took 1h for some guy to come draw extensive parallels to RL supply and demand ignoring how this is a game, a game where they also they admitted there is market manipulation on top a system that was/is broken for the supply (which is also way more limited than other things in RL) AND it’s one of the same 5 guys that post everywhere about this.

If they’re going to make legendaries easier to get (they’ve mentioned they’ll soon be account bound instead of soul bound) I see no reason they can’t do the same for dyes.

And yea, I feel a grind is warranted in this game for skin swaps… not gear. that’s why I don’t mind the requirements for legendaries too much and would sooner consider selling one before actually getting one.

Legendaries are excessive, but the precursor isn’t the problem. It’s everything else on top of it.

Being pigeonholed into a specific spec is nothing new to MMO’s. You can tell you’re playing a bad one with no creativity or one that isn’t going to break any new ground when you see everyone min/maxing into the same spec and class. I’m not surprised to be honest.

The only thing you can do is keep bringing up the issues with Scepter and Staff as well as the countless useless skills and traits available to the class and thank the heavens that you’re not a Necromancer, Ranger, or Engineer… each of which could be removed in a patch tomorrow and no one would notice.

And EVERY other game that gives you the EXACT same message is for that specific character, isn’t account wide, and can be recitified by deleting your character.

And let me guess… you read the ToS too?

See, there’s your problem right there.
This is not “EVERY other game”, this is Guild Wars 2. What they do in other games is irrelevent. Different games have different ways of doing things. And BTW, "EVERY other game " is incorrect. I have played many games that work the same as GW2, toons are account bound to a specific server.

To the op, actually if there is a que for WvW, that is a good sign and you want to stay on that server. If no one on your server is playing WvW, your not going to have very much fun in there yourself.

I presume you’re another one that reads the complete ToS before logging in too.

Feel free to announce another game that works the same way as GW2. The only games that have similar restrictions that I’ve found are MMO’s and I can’t think of a single one that makes it impossible to ever change servers without paying a fee.

There’s a right way to do things and a wrong way. It’s much like the way things work in the real world… if you’re going to do something different than the tried, tested, and approved way you better improve it. There’s no way anyone could confuse the system we have here as an improvement on anything that has ever come before it.

But how many people out there bought the game because a friend told them it was awesome and in your eagerness to join them, you forgot to ask which server they played on. Thinking the problem can be corrected, you just make an character to see how the game works with the intention of remaking when your friend comes home from work only to find out your SOL because you made a life-altering decision 30 seconds after you installed the game and before you could even decide what kind of character you wanted to make.

The game CLEARLY tells you that your server selection is permanent and there is a transfer fee if you want to change servers.

And EVERY other game that gives you the EXACT same message is for that specific character, isn’t account wide, and can be recitified by deleting your character.

Laurels. Thoughts?

Atherakhia.4086

I think they’re a very poorly impelemented alternative to in-game currency. Every time they add a useless badge of this sort it only makes the economy of their game that much more useless (And when you consider the economy in this game, you really can’t get much worse than what it’s at right now). They also show the level of ‘grind’ that is required in this game. Having a daily give 1 and a monthly give 10 is fine. The problem is how you need to do 5 different quests to get your daily… each should be their own daily. If you do all 5, you get a bonus. If you do 5 of 7 days, you get a bonus. If you do 20 of 30 days for a month you get a bonus.

This is how you introduce a useless badge system and not make it feel so painful when doing it.

Each ‘daily’ consists of 5 quests for 1 laurel.
Each of these quests should give a laurel.
If you do all 5, you get a bonus laurel.
If you do 5 of 7 days, you get a bonus 5 laurels.
If you do 4 of these ‘weeks’ you get a bonus 10 laurels.

That’s almost 200 a month if you do them all which is still only a couple items for a months worth of effort that aren’t any better than most of the alternatives out there.

Gear should be handed to us… it’s the unique skins that we should be ‘grinding’ for.

Because not only should each character be independently able to choose which server they want to play on, but if you make a character on a wrong server, you shouldn’t be forced to go out and buy a new $60 game or a $20 game pass (which is only $10 less than I paid for the game) to fix the error.

Something as important as a once-in-a-lifetime decision to choose your server is simply too large a decision to make for a player starting out for the first time. Perhaps if you had to level to 10 to get off some newbie island and once you left the newbie island you chose your server and were stuck with it, fine.

That’s why it’s poor game design and shows a complete lack of concern for the playerbase. It’s the kind of error a new game designer makes… like when you were in highschool and your teacher told you to make a tic-tac-toe game and you coded for every possibility except for if there was a tie and you forced them to shut down the game and restart it.

Novice game design showing no foresite whatsoever. Something you’d expect from someone taking their first programming or game design 101 class.

He can’t delete his character and remake on a different server? Well that’s poor game design if I’ve ever seen it.

I presume if you pay to transfer servers, it transfers all of your characters then?

The difference in damage and health with someone using the magic find stat and not is miniscule at best. It has no impact on anything as we’re talking seconds, not minutes it will add to a fight.

The issue is the terrible players involved and their terrible specs and not the gear they’re using.
