Warrior Templar armor, my main in GW1 had it.
I loved the look.
So she was first presented as a Joker from Batman when in reality she’s a John Trent from In the Mouth of Madness.
I would just like to say that In the Mouth Of Madness is one of the great movies ever.
If ANet really wants to go down this route you know what must be done.
Whatever is eating her mind must be voiced by Jeffery Combs, the Reanimator.
I don’t get how they could get it so right with Guild Wars Beyond and then screw up so hard in GW2.
Maybe different teams are the reason, only Anet knows for sure.
I seriously hope they don’t try to keep her as a “good girl” or try to reform.
Just let her end with some form of dignity by trying to kill whatever Eldritch horror that haunts her, ultimately failing at her job.
Even though the waiting for the time gate was a hassle I have a bigger problem with the boss fights.
Sometimes they are “too busy” for us to actually look at the changes and art.
During the tower defense sequence on the puppet, all I did was focus on the trenches and zergs of bad guys. To be honest there could have been a giant puppet but it wouldn’t have mattered.
As for Wurms, when I’m replacing the toner on the Asuran printers to kill those things I can’t help but wonder where the platforms were.
Oh…wait…under the 5 Champion Husks who keep jumping up and down on them.
So she was first presented as a Joker from Batman when in reality she’s a John Trent from In the Mouth of Madness.
This instance was one reason why I logged in for the new release.
The other is Scarlet’s base.
I like the fact that Braham just can’t get the whole need for a warband. It does go to show how different Norn are to Charr. Whatever Rox chooses I hope for the best, and thank you Rytlock for giving a good motivation for killing that boring weed!
Jory and Kas, yes slight exposition dump but I’m glad the truth is finally out there.
Which in hindsight makes Lord Faren even more awesome that he didn’t judge her the way others did.
I too want to hunt down that minister and give him a thwacking. Please be Caudecus!
As for Taimi I’m glad she’s a child because the Jimmy Neutron voice on a girl seems strange. I know that’s ironic considering the voice actress is female, but every time she talked I wondered if she’s eventually going to hit Asuran puberty or not.
I think the more important takeaway is that all the complaining on the forums caused anet to scrap its plans to implement several of Scarlet’s alliances, like the Screttin Alliance, the Flipperhoof Alliance, the Wished-For-New-Player-Race Alliance, the Cult of Frozen Cargo Alliance, and many more. Stick to your guns, forumgoers. You really can make a difference.
This, so much this I can’t even say any more.
I won’t get my Hoof Hop alliance but at least ANet responded tongue in cheek to our thoughts on all these alliances.
The only thing I’ve got is possibly she’ll drill down to meet a Dragon.
Maybe that was what kept messing with her head?
It wasn’t very clear, though I do like her holoscreen set up.
This means I’ll be interested in hearing her when I log in tonight.
Then the new Asura character. Cute, a big mouth, the usual asura.
But out of nowhere. She is supposed to be Zojas aprentice or whatever, but no foreshadowing of her. If she has a major impact on the story now, she will be nothing more then a Deus Ex Machina in my book.First of all I never played Deus Ex so I hope that didn’t make me misunderstand you. ^^
Close but no, I think.
Deus Ex Machina : from Latin, meaning “god from the machine”
Where something is just solved because…reasons.
Deus Ex the video game reference: A series of really good video games (some better than others) in which society and cybernetics reach a turning point. The title of the game did take inspiration from the earlier definition though.
Wow her face in that dialogue box reminds me of the Norns from Creatures.
Adorable! Absolutely adorable.
The Consortium funds her.
The page redesign is somewhat nice, but yes I do miss the little teaser previews we would get.
Also apparently I can’t click on some of the images to enlarge.
‘Rich rewards await those who protect Tyria!’ Yeah well I can’t see the armor in detail to determine if its a rich reward. :P
My favorite will always be Dwayna first then Balthazar. It may have something to do with my Whammo in GW1 and my Guardian in GW2.
I protect my friends and then stomp on my enemies. I’m more midline than frontline with the way I play usually.
1. Dwayna
2. Balthazar
3. Lyssa
4. Melandru
5. Grenth
6. Abaddon

Glad to see some information on the new Asura coming.
Now all we need is some expansion or patch that lets us have golemancers.
Sort of like an Engie/Necro mix, c’mon ANet I know you have the potential to do such a thing.
(edited by Atlas.9704)
Give Iron Legion Engineers enough wrenches and the blasted thing will fall like dominoes.
We’ll have her diagonally with a royal flush, Yahtzee.
Or we could just do the Zapp Brannigan technique: send wave after wave of warriors at it until the kill level reaches its reset and the thing shuts down.
That would be an interesting Home Instance addition.
“Try out your combos and attacks with this personal trainer dummy”
Sell the seeds or use them to feed the animals for slaughter.
valid point, however a simple setting to “block all dueling requests” would solve that issue.
Which is under the assumption that ANet would program such a feature.
Certain things like Guild Invites could use such a feature as well, but no joy at the moment.
“Better than moot loot”
I’m willing to accept a pvp only in the mists idea…but my main issue is I want to be able to duel with my pve/wvw gear against friends on different servers…i’m on YB and have friends on BG, SOR, hell even Manvil Rock. If they had some sort of battle arenas where all you would have to do is guest to a server and duel someone i’d be 100% happy with that.
To which I completely sympathize with your predicament.
WvW and sPvP haven’t received the amount of attention they probably should get in terms of aesthetics. You should be able to show up in that hard earned PvE/WvW gear in the sPvP area. If they are ‘encouraging’ PvE folks to go into WvW for map completion I see no reason why gear is limited in sPvP like this.
According to the roadmap article they posted a while back it looks like things are heading in that direction.
In the months that follow, we will be working to eliminate the difference between PvP and PvE gear. Players will be able to earn gear in PvP that can be carried over to PvE and vice versa. This means that players who have carefully crafted their appearance in one area of the game will have a way to carry that look over to other areas of the game.
So at least it is a first step in the right direction.
Another point to address, “It’s simply change this code…” No chances are the coding isn’t a simple manner. If it were why wasn’t it added already? They have bigger issues to handle and if that were to ever occur it would have to wait.
What, you don’t think it would only take “a day”?
(WHAP)
:P
That’s Business/Project Manager bull speech! As a programmer (not for games though sorry) certain systems take more than a day. We just BS from time to time in order to look like miracle workers.
There’s plenty of open world dueling, it is called WvW.
If that form of it doesn’t stand well with you then place your complaints there.
Or at least ask for it in the sPvP area, where it would probably do some good.
Some folks in various threads like this have made the claim it would bring back people into the PvE maps. If that were the case ANet should really put the duel system in the Mists because there’s been constant wailing that sPvP is boring.
PvP belongs in the Mist, plain and simple. PvE needs a stronger story, interesting dynamics, and various other polish to some dungeons.
Back in GW1 times it was the Battle isles, which was separated from the PvE elements.
Yes other games might have this in their titles, but GW2 is not them.
It is GW2 and it should do what it wants instead of following other games.
Should I wish for skiing jet pack battle armor since Tribes has it?
Or ask for the Meld from Firefall? Pandas as a playable race?
No, because that’s not GW2.
If you miss the days of open PvP and can find titles that do such a mechanic go play them for a while. Bringing it to the open map will not guarantee it stop folks from camping Lion’s Arch.
The PvE map is for cooperation on missions and playing out storylines, the Mists is where people should go to bash one another’s heads in.
As stated earlier in my post, if any place needs dueling it would be the Mists because playing capture point game mode time and time again is boring.
Yes Costume Brawl exists and it is mostly played in the cities (LA the prime example) in at least my server. I’ve rarely seen anyone use it in PvE. No doubt they would fear someone troll them by dragging mobs to their area.
So if they are in PvE and try to Costume Brawl, chances are they would be in a remote area. We might as well keep them in a safe remote area like the Mists so their PvP experience isn’t interrupted.
Another point to address, “It’s simply change this code…” No chances are the coding isn’t a simple manner. If it were why wasn’t it added already? They have bigger issues to handle and if that were to ever occur it would have to wait.
tldr version PvP folks need the Mists cleaned/improved upon. PvE just need better story and rewards to drag folks out into maps. Combining the two doesn’t make sense when technically we have two game modes and a “middle ground”.
^There is those few, but it’s more than likely low ranked Charrs or less likely cubs. And who says the Charr aren’t allowed to decorate with something that’s not metal or used to kill people? But on the other hand they could be there to appease Sylvari or Human taste in decoration, make them feel more welcome kinda thing, doubtfully, but theres that too.
You do bring up a good point, there are plebians (Humans and Sylvari) in the city.
Sending a few out to play gardener would work.
Plants clean up the air and we know Black Citadel can get smoggy after all.
Everyone had their little quirks in Destiny’s Edge.
As for Zojja and her Snaff worship, I didn’t mind it too much.
She showed that Asurans do care about their own, another fine example was Vekk in GW1. Snaff was like a father to her. When he died she never did adjust in a healthy manor until you get in the later dungeons.
Oola was a great example of the “mad scientist” side of the Asura, no question there.
Hopefully Anet doesn’t make this new one a Jar Jar, but rather another expanding view in the Asuran culture.
This is Madness!
No, this is Sparta!
No, this is Patrick!
I want a tough one like Efut.
One that is smart enough to know physics and utilize said knowledge with a mace to someone’s forehead.
I would get a chuckle if farhars were given such a task.
“But I want to kill giants!”
“Start with watering the hibiscus first, then we’ll see.”
“What about fighting monsters?”
“You’ll face one if Rytlock’s tulip collection goes wilt, I promise that.”
You’ve never even taken a programming class I’m willing to wager. Tell me… what happens when you and another guy are dueling and I decide to cast a chaos storm on the top of you two?
Also what if someone pulls a champ or enemy mob on them?
Maybe we can hope she’s planning on using her UFO to find the Seers and Mursaat somewhere else?
Inb4 Cantha & Elona, we go to SPACE. Crossover with SW:TOR, Mursaat are the Sith.
The new Destiny’s Edge becomes The XCom Project.
I’m in!
I don’t know how you can’t like Scarlet…after all, she can do fantastic stunts…with tiny feet, no less.
I actually would think Douglas Fairbanks as Scarlet would be an improvement.
I honestly cannot understand why people think its so far fetched for Anet to release now zones / contents / races!
why the skeptism, they’ve said they’re going to do it from day one.
what are people skeptical about? that they dont have the know how? ability? motivation? I just dont get it
When it comes to zones and maps, I want them to take their time.
Last thing we would want is some bare bones outline in the form of some map and they fill it in later.
It seems that 2013 was a learning year for them on a lot of fronts.
To be fair, Sylar was the best character in the whole series and was incredibly interesting. He had this Vegeta vibe to him that make him easy to relate to even though he was a “bad guy”. Scarlet is nowhere close to that developed.
He was interesting, no dispute there.
Scarlet would get crushed in competition.
I just get rather miffed that sometimes writers just don’t know how to let go of a character.
It reminds me of GM NPCs at a gaming table.
But none have the voice of a pony!!!
So what you’re saying is Felicia Day has to voice a pony.
I’d be fine with this.
Besides, she’s friggin psycho.
Exactly why we should keep her.
We have enough psychos though. XD
Yeah the Asura are enough lol
Why do you hate Scarlet so much? You do realize that her voice actress is a pony in real life? That alone should keep her as a main character for the life of GW2.
Her voice acting as a pony is irrelevant, besides I liked her as Raven from Teen Titans more, but rather in the fact that the character itself is boring after a while.
If I said it once, I’ll say it again 40 billion times (if my posting history is any indication) that Scarlet does not need to be behind every problem in the Living Story for Season One.
Angel and the rest of the writing team admitted to this being a learning process.
I’m willing to cut some slack, but leave Scarlet out of Season two please!
It’s akin to Sylar in Heroes showing up after he died (sorta) in Season One’s end.
Season Two rolls around and yet there he is!
His story was over!
Back to GW2 I hope her story is over! Yes she tumbled some anthills, messed stuff up, and tried to play Shadows from Bablyon 5. I get it she had plans!
Now let the other races move in after the shake up and make this world something living and dynamic instead of just making it her play pen.
I’m going to roll with the idea that Scarlet becomes our ally at the end of this arc. That way, she’ll ALWAYS be a part of every Living Story going forward.
I…I must find a way to burn down your home instance in PvE for such a scary thought like that.
No harm will come to you, but all those nodes you may have will combust.
:P
do that if you may, but “The Dragons Will Never Forget”
Oh that’s okay, I’ll keep hitting the 2 button and Destiny’s Edge will help me kill it.
Comparing to Game of Thrones? Very ambitious, but let’s see how Season 2 goes before assuming such things.
The big patch idea I like, hopefully some of that Quality of Life stuff will be housing related.
I’m sure if Scarlet ended up like the folks @ The Red Wedding, people in GW2 would take that over an expansion ;p
There would be cheers and I may be responsible for a Quaggan parade while singing “Ding dong the Witch is dead”.
Then I would eagerly await this personal nemesis promised in one of the news articles.

If she has this big UFO and Watchknight megazord sized puppet, why not drop it closer to Divinity’s Reach?
We did find out that she’s not too keen on humans after all.
The updated wurms I really don’t have a problem with.
If she has all these toys and tech then why go stomping around in the cold?
So updated grabboids and Mecha puppet.
Well at least it isn’t another alliance.
I’ll at least try taking down lady Pinocchio.
Efficiency = joy. Human\\animal speech is irrelevant\\unnecessary. Cease//desist immediately.
ACKNOWLEDGE//SUBMIT!
<Giver-of-Will>!
Care to share this theory so that we may congratulate you after the fact?
I’ll take the inquiry in the spirit that you were curious.
During the Jubilee someone didn’t like the update
So I posted:
I see this as Season One of a show. It isn’t too good,
but still has some decent moments, chances are it will ‘grow the beard’ in Season Two.
For the Living Story I see Season Two being established around 2014.
By that time, like Yata said, they won’t create too much holiday-ish new content,
but rather work on bigger things while updating older core holiday things here and there.
I want villain and hero Balkanization.
I don’t want one big villain, but rather smaller powers trying to take each other on and eventually bigger powers rise from this.
Examples:
Commander Samuelsson, descendant of Ascalonian Kings, faces trouble within his borders. Former Ebon Vanguard are willing to break up the truce by impersonating Fallen Angels. Under the guise they plan on attacking the Queen.
People loyal to the queen want to quickly shut down the Asura gate, temporarily, so the traitors can be rounded up. Those not loyal to the queen support the notion in order to weaken her power base with the public and foster hatred within Ebonhawke walls.
The heroes (us) have to shut this down before the gate shuts, allowing Charr seps a chance to attack.
A Sylvari hero emerges from the Tree after Scarlet’s fall.
Where he saw her hands of fire tear into Tyria, he will become a calm wind which cools the tempers of others.
He has heard of our stories from the Mother, honored that we would help him.
The hero is available for Maguuma and possibly Norn areas most of the time due to his travels.
Basically I want heroes and foes that “own” a section of the maps. Sure we might see them elsewhere from time to time, but that specific person isn’t responsible for every good or bad thing that occurs everywhere.

Listening to the upload and read the posts here.
It looks like my “Season one” theory holds true.
I hope it grows the beard in the future.
I’m glad that Angel and the team are working on more stories, getting more experience, and hopefully we’ll get non Sylvari villains down the road.
