Guild Wars 2

I am attracted to GW2 because of the art, the PvE game play with others, the choice of options, and sometimes even the story.

The art is beautiful, the music spectacular, the voice work does its job, and it is a treat just to put on some good headphones and get absorbed into it all.

I can log in and play anything, which allows me to vary out my game play each week.
Maybe I want to do all jumping puzzles, help new and lower leveled folks run areas, or possibly just go mad with fractals and dungeons.
Then again I could play in the Silverwastes, enjoy the scenery, or drop by Lion’s Arch and read the chats as people babble.

No subscription also means I can hook my Civilization games back into me, get addicted, come back, and not feel bad about losing a few days.

While I can see how this benefits many many people.. I have one reservation: New players now have absolutely no reason to enter WvW.

I have hope that the new player is a curious creature by nature, willing to plod around with anything if their minds are open to it. Besides there’s always the factor of them joining a guild that does play WvWvW and they enjoy it from there or despise it, but learned something.

That is a bad thing. There are many players who are adverse to WvW before trying it.

Because some folks detest PvP, get bored by it, or just don’t see the thrill of that game mode. That’s just their nature and adding carrots to that stick won’t help.

After spending some time in there to complete maps, they come to realize that it is a fun game mode, and some stay.

There are other incentives that could work which are less…“forceful” (I’m not good at thinking of a better term).
New characters do get WvWvW boosters as they reach a level, then there’s always advertisements over the new season of that game, and (once again) relying on the extensive player base that have helpful guilds who can ease a person into that sort of thing.

Megaserver reduced the folks spamming for help in Lion’s Arch when a server was dying in WvWvW. I rejoiced.

Now this bit of news comes up and I’m quite pleased about it as well.

People that like PvE can enjoy full map completion while those in that other game mode don’t need to worry about hanger-ons taking up their precious server spots.

I just want my natural weapon skill unlocking again. That change alone was heartbreaking.

Agreed, in a way it just kills my experience within the starting boss battle.
Instead of killing Centaurs to build up my weapon skills, I just zoom straight to the giant Elemental hands and get it over with.

This change detracts from the earlier experiences I had.

*I can’t stand being in large crowds sometimes due to the headaches I get.
*The worst thing people can do, in my opinion, is converse with their normal loud voices in a bathroom or crowded elevator.
*Ironically my playstyle would work well with a group. I support the party, try to buff, and love the Guardian life. However my life schedule does not permit group play at times.

It was a wonderful combination that I hope will grace our POIs in the future whenever things need to be hyped.

I don’t care how they can do it, but have those two for every POI where stuff is being shown off.

They were playing with the character, having fun, taking their time to explain things, and really showing the energy this game can create.

You could see the joy and pride as they showed off their newest toy to us.
That’s what I like to see!
The only minor quibble I had was the somewhat late start time, but you know what it was worth it.

They made POI fun for me.

For the purposes of this episode, Dave had a lot of information to share as the systems designer while Nellie spent time moving around the map as much as possible so the viewers could see lots of the map. One great piece of feedback I got last week was that the character on screen wasn’t moving around nearly enough, and the view was static and boring. It was a good point—this is a brand-new map and you all want to see more of it, so she kept moving to give you all a constantly-changing view as best she could. I think she did a great job.

This was what I wanted most from the episode before.
I’m so glad it happened here.
I’ll admit to wishing she grabbed the other light on the plateau every time she shroom jumped, but that’s just my child-like excitement taking over.

This was a great starting template on how PoI episodes with content we can’t play should go.

• We are currently working to restore the Greatest Fear storyline to the live game. I can’t provide a release date at this point.
• In addition to restoring the Personal Story steps to their original order we’re making some minor improvements where possible (e.g. recording new VO or updating certain conversations, etc.).

Yeah, I have one concern: Will the Skill point scrolls still work on a lvl 80 character?

Mine will be Norn, since they are all about spirits and communicating with them.
Plus this will round out my division of Priory/Order/Vigil characters when I sign him up to the Priory.
Which is a great combination! A Norn who is interested in all facets of the spirits, goes and works with the Priory, who then learns about many fallen heroes and villain within the Mists.

Aside from the two big questions (how much money do I cram in you? When do I cram said cash in you?) I have a question based on the lore/language thing Colin brought up.

I’m going to initially believe the new races will benefit from this, but eventually will older races get little nuggets like this going forward?

Disclaimer: I’m a filthy casual, PvE fan, carebear, scrub, whatever else makes you feel better to call me. I don’t care because I know where I can get my fun.

With PvE and the Living world, it is akin to a nursery filled with all sorts of fun stuff.
We are all wide eyed younglings who are exploring this Romper Room.
Every now and then the Nanny pops in to read us a story just for entertainment.
It might suck, it might be great, it could be as horrible as a coked-out rant from a senator, but it is there for us to consume.

In sPvP, same nursery, but in this room we’re dropped into a section with only a few play mats, and we can only play one game. The more we cry, the more the Nanny drops in a few finishers to see if that will shut the little ones.

In WvWvW it is a bit more worse. You’re thrown outside, oh you want some attention too? Here’s some finishers and a Dolyak statue, how is that? Also instead of Red, now you are (random color) and it doesn’t matter.

Forgive the Muppet Babies analogy, but that’s how it feels to play those other two game modes.
They don’t have much impact. The website only cares about the big tournaments, which I sort of understand, but even the Leaderboard could show what profession is used most by a certain player.

Yes, if you go to youtube or twitch videos are there.
Problem is for the average “filthy casual, PvE fan, carebear, scrub, whatever else…” the site could provide them a jumping off point.

“Here’s the Winners of our Winter PvP Ladder Test Season. Oh also here’s some videos we found of them. Go on, look, be inspired, and then have your heart crushed because you aren’t that good. You tried though skipper.”

In WvWvW it is even worse. Megaserver absolutely killed any interest I have in how my server is doing. There’s no sense of pleading to the masses for heroes and they show up.
Ultimately it is like they are two Activities that got promoted over Keg Brawl or Sanctum Sprint. At least that’s my general impression of it.

Yes the community is toxic, yes we’re supposed to toughen up “princess”, and yes joining a group will always make things better forever.
Though from the eyes of a casual, one who plays off and on due to real life, the costs aren’t worth it.

Because I know when I leave PvP land and come back 3 months later, I won’t miss a darn thing.

I looked over the links, no matter what happens that Lore section is a ‘needs to happen’.
One of the biggest things that pulled some players here was the Lore.
It tends to get difficult when trying to explain all the Season 1 stuff to a new player.
That would be invaluable.

Okay, last one I swear.
My main will side with any Sylvari that resist the Mordremoth corruption and the Nightmare.

My poor little Elementalist really loved the Zephyrites.

Scott McNiel had to do stuff like that for Dinobot/Rattrap scenes in Beast Wars.

I’d have to say that it probably isn’t going to affect all Sylvari, but rather the “weaker” ones.
The heroic ones, and the player characters, will be shielded somehow.
The Mother Tree is like a filter, with the Dream as a strange mental safe zone for the children.

Either way if I play this out, mine won’t go full Mordy.
In fact one of them might see it as his Wyld Hunt to purge the Mord influenced brethren. Saddened by his duty, but driven to fanaticism like a Space Marine from WH40K.

There’s an NPC in Camp Resolve that lets you rewatch the final cinematics if you’ve completed the episode. He’s standing near the entrance.

I’m having a heck of a time finding this guy – what is his name? Or race? I feel like I’ve talked to every NPC in camp resolve and I can’t find him.

Vigil Warmaster Wylliam in Camp Resolve, right next to the portal to the Brisban Wildlands.

Which explains why I thought Turai was going to almost say I needed additional pylons.

The voice was almost Protoss in quality, very nice.

Quick question about the voice work.
Did they manage to finally snag Felicia Day for Zojja or did we get an impersonator?
I ask only because the parts I could hear sounded a bit…off.

Then again it has been quite the while since I’ve heard her do the Zojja voice, people’s voices do change after the years.

My Guardian was the only one I played that mission with.
Chances are it will be the only one and that one time will be the only time.
I didn’t enjoy the mechanics of the mission.

The cinematic was delightful, the storyline was entertaining, but the final battle was less than enjoyable.

85% of the playable area was either red circle of dooms or explosive plants.
Said explosive plants knocked me into the red zones or a giant hand.
Combine that with the freaking hand that knocks you down.
That all made the last mission cheap and full of nothing but knockdowns/knockbacks for me.

Unless I was near perma swift and perma stability, the mission was cheap and not fun.
Plus those blasted shadows turn invincible and I could not kill them.
I might have found one way, but I couldn’t experiment.
This was mainly due to the constant requirements to keep moving and practically expect my character to get knocked flat on his metal rear.

I don’t know if I’ll play this mission on anything but my Guardian in the future.

My guess? Because with a new race, like the Sylvari, they can do so much more without worrying about messing with existing canon.

I could use them for skill points, thus gold somehow, but I already have a few hundred as it is on my main and my favored secondaries.

It really isn’t worth it to me.

Well that confirms it, next SAB we get will be Rytlock level themed.
Actually that would be kind of fun to do.

When you have that one item you want to sell because you don’t want, but it is account bound.

Rytlock is traveling through the Mists to get the sword back and complete his mission.
Eventually he encounters a moment in time reflecting when the FoeFire occurs.
Due to this he gets blinded somehow, but does manage to fulfill his mission.

The Ascalon ghosts aren’t a big concern anymore, the Charr can breathe easy now.
Afterwards he finds a way to the physical world.
At the worst he’s lost some memory and he’s traveling around the jungle to get his bearings.
At the best case scenario, he’s found some way to use his experience during the FoeFire event to stop the latest dragon threat.

The ghostly image in the trailer doesn’t have much to do with him.
Rather it has something to do with how we wibbley wobbley crystal-wystal’ed our way into a Glint facet. Now we can see ascended ghost people or something.

We can prevent the growing influence of the Dragon, but we now need some ancient artifact imbued with massive magical power.
Enter the flaming sword that Rytlock still possesses.

It is all in how the ideas are presented.
There are plenty of posts which are respectful and comment on the apparent lack of content.
Then there are posts which can be hyperbolically summed up as “Dis gaem is dead, Xpac naow or I’m leaving.”

ANet is aware that some folks feel the content is lacking.
There are also folks that think we have just the right amount.
If they feel that there needs to be more content after listening to various posts, then they’ll take whatever actions they can or want to do.

It is as simple as that.

As for conduct against other posters, it is usually best not to single out people by name.
One of the rules in the forum states,
“Be respectful. Be pleasant to forum members, staff members, and moderators.”
Calling someone by username a white knight\whiner\troll\etc isn’t really respectful, no matter what intentions the author had (good or ill).

Then there’s another which further goes into not personally attacking anyone.

Disagree with someone’s stance all you want, but calling someone names won’t help anything.

3.) Is “evading” the only way to dodge attacks?
To dodge, yes, however there are other ways to mitigate damage from attacks.
If you manage to get the boon Aegis (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Aegis) then the next attack will be blocked.
It only works on one attack, so try to get that boon again after it is used up.

6.) When does an engineer get the ability to place turrets?
Turrets are skills.
As you accumulate skill points, your engineer can pick skills.
Just get the appropriate skill you like (Rifle Turret, Healing, Rocket, etc) and you’ll be able to use that turret.

7.) Can an engineer summon a Golem?
Asurans can purchase Elite skills which deploy Golems

Why would she need to make amends to centaurs as a race? the multitude of centaurs tend to attack us on sight, never had them make amends for it

If I was writing, the reason would be more of an internal reasoning.
Basically she felt bad enough to somehow make good with the remaining peaceful Centaurs.

Those multitude of centaurs that attack us on sight are waging war on the humans, plus anyone helping the two legs. So there is a difference. I’m speaking about those herds outside the dry tops of course.

Yes Caithe was defending her love, well that’s how the writers will explain it, and it was more or less a horrible mistake.
