A window of neutrality in WvW for mapping.

Either way, shut up and get off the forums.

Classy, very classy no wonder the devs hardly come here.

Anet is too busy dealing with all the PvEers complaining about this and that with the stupid Living Story.

Either that, your little outburst, or China…wait can we still use China as an excuse folks?

For folks that want to complete map, dealing with WvWvW is easier now for some points.
I mean after all repair are free, just keep death leveling to whatever spot you need.
(tongue in cheek moment)Though I do like the chicken idea, ANet could sell it as a gem store item.
The company gets money and WvWvW gets some attention for a moment, even if it is to temporarily brush the dust off the game mode.(/tongue in cheek moment)

I just feel like Anet has turned into Walmart, I refuse too shop at Walmart.

Normally I hate using Internet memes, but in this situation a variation of one is needed:

Do you even business?!

Sales always happen.
Games go on sale sometimes when they launch, when they are about to release something big, when some anniversary shows up, when Gabe presses the “gimme money” Steam Sales button, when the CEO decides to have chicken for lunch, etc.

I zerged in WvWvW because of map completion.
Then when that was done I thought it would help me acquire more loot.
When I realized that dungeons paid better, I decided to try out K-Trains in EoTM.
Now I’ve pretty much stopped zerg WvWvW and WvWvW altogether because I don’t find it interesting anymore.

This was inspired by the Berlin campaign expansion in Shadowrun Returns. In it, there’s an extremely racist group who hands out ranting pamphlets much like those above. The hilarity was that they blamed human inferiority on dwarves opening family run stores.

What sort of stories would you like to see?

I’d love to see more exploration into the time before Humans came to the scene.
We hear small tantalizing things about how the Mursaat, Jotun, Seers, Dwarf, and Forgotten allied against the Dragons.
I’d love to see Priory/Indiana Jones style adventures where we learn more about the ancient past of Tyria.

That’s what really drew me into the latest episode. The Master of Peace commenting on a power that was so great. I hopped in my chair wondering if he meant the Bloodstones or some old relic we haven’t discovered yet.

GW: Story of humans
GW2: Story of the Sylvari, with the possibilty to play other races and miss the story…

I’m beginning to believe this parallel when you factor in how Humans came into the scene pre-GW1.
The Gods apparently brought them here to Tyria.
From there they lived and wrecked all sorts of stuff, even pushing the Forgotten into the Crystal Desert.

Now we have this new race come in from mysterious circumstances.
Sure we know that our Sylvari come from this Pale Tree, but where does this Pale Tree come from?

The Human found a seed and planted it, but where was its tree?
Mark my words all of this has come before and will come again.

The Asuran will become the equivalents to the Mursaat.
The Charr become possibly the Seers.
The Norn, maybe the Forgotten.
The Humans, the Jotuns.

Then the Sylvari will take the place of where the Humans were during the next great Dragon Cycle.

The dance is starting again, we’re seeing new players shift where the old ones were.

+1 to everything.

Who was Aerin’s VA? Aerin and Taimi stole the show IMO.

Aerin is voiced by Jon St. John.

Good, because I thought he sounded familiar.
Then again he’s done work on this game in the past.
I too wish to extend a hearty +1 to the writing staff on this season’s first episode.

I liked the mystery with Aerin, but was saddened he died so quickly in terms of story.
The Master of Peace would be interesting to follow, especially after he talked about a great power.

I was more fascinated with that compared to looking through Scarlet’s stuff.
Don’t take that last line as a burn on those efforts though.
It is good that we manage to rummage through her stuff.
I was intrigued when we were told about the Steam creature’s intelligence.
There’s potential story seeds being planted all around with this episode.
Far better than slamming down signposts and eating kid’s drawings.

i recommend spending some time in lion’s arch then. especially as a sylvari character.

Little touches like that have me loving this game even more.
I can’t nor will I ever support faction systems based on the races joining together.
The races themselves provide a decent difference for the stories taking place.
I do though love how even when the Pact is combining all the Orders together, we still have individuals who are petty or bitter due to personal tragedies.

As such the Sylvari hatred in Lion’s Arch. I don’t mind seeing some of that on a small scale, but I don’t want to see Sylvari versus the world dynamics.

We get this new group because the old one has moved on with their lives.
During the Dungeon stories we helped bring them together, take on Arah, hit #2—-er I mean finally take down a dragon, and they congratulated us.

Fact is they had their own lives outside of their guild.
Outside the game it probably takes a small miracle to wrangle all those voice artists for their lines. Steve Blum being everywhere, Troy Baker too busy being all sorts of Batman characters, Felicia Day harder to capture than an Elementalist on vapor form, etc.

So it was probably easier from a writing perspective to create a new brand of heroes.
Therefore we now lead this new guild, whatever the name is.

That’s like getting mad at a dog because you threw its ball over a fence. Do some digging, it just sounds like you guys are feeling entitled for hints about new, relatively hidden content.

No, more like the dog wants the ball.
So the owner could throw it in the yard (the main site).
However the owner decides to tuck it away in a nearby garden (twitter).
Maybe put it on the other side of the fence (facebook).
Or throws it over to a nearby dog park (tumblr).
Or inside the nice tool shed no one uses (the Atlas page they have).
Finally the owner also has a hidden spot inside the dog’s own doghouse (youtube).

I understand that social media is important, but spreading out the information should always point back to this site for the full story.

Apparently it seems to be the opposite effect here: go see a link in the main website, but for the actual content go to one of the forty other sites we’re linked with.

Like so many others I scratched my head when the announcement for tumblr came up.
Yeah great you can show off your videos, images, and even allow fan art.

pvp Dungeon track question.

Posted by: Atlas.9704

Atlas.9704

i don’t think the pvp community expected to be receiving dungeon rewards ultimately though. now its just more garbage for my bank, some are nice mind you but i’d rather just pve those.
[snip]
i really hope they do actually have some changes coming to pvp that will make it good again.

That would be a wonderful turnaround for ANet.
I’m one of the numerous pvpidontcare-ers.
I’m not even that much into the PvP community, but even I see that this side gets the short end of the stick.

I can see why they did reward tracks. It was in the best of intentions.
Start off with rewards already in game, then expand on it later if it becomes successful.
The hardcore PvP’ers that actually want the dungeon stuff can get it now.
The problem is there’s not much aimed specifically for that community.
Yeah there’s the Balth back piece, but one item in a track isn’t going to revitalize the game mode.

It seems so strange at times. We get these bits where they want to unify the game, so to speak, but neglect focused attention towards certain modes.
Maybe it has something to do with their teams, their release schedules, or maybe the suits that dictate stuff. I dunno, but I do agree that while tracks were a cute idea, it wasn’t going to bring back PvP’s life…assuming there was any to start.

pvp Dungeon track question.

in PvP

Posted by: Atlas.9704

Atlas.9704

what i don’t understand is why dungeon’s and pvp were linked in the first place. the rewards i can understand… but not the dungeons.

If I had to venture a guess, it would be due to ANet’s thought that PvP and PvE can be mingled together somewhat in terms of achievements and such.

In fact there was an article about it months ago.

So if you have a rotating system of tracks that PvP’ers can use, then they can earn rewards that PvE’ers tend to grind for in the dungeons.
For the PvE’er side, if you don’t want to grind a dungeon path today, you can still get something if you grind out that reward track in PvP.

Even though they are two different game modes with different goals and balances, ANet is still behind the idea that they can be unified in some matters.

This type of mode is ideal for the mixed mode gamer. The player who has already run the story dungeon and loves to kill players out in the arena. Their attitude is what ANet is really shooting for with all these changes.

Interracial relationship

in Lore

Posted by: Atlas.9704

Atlas.9704

There are a couple examples of humans liking norn though – before destruction in LA there were two human females who comment on two passing norn, one of which blatantly gives a sultry comment on the man.

I remember that one…

In Timberline Falls there’s a Vigil patrol where a human guy is constantly trying to woo a female norn with poetry (and she’s constantly turning him down).

That one is new to me, I’ll have to go looking in that map again.
It is so nice to see nuggets like this when walking around.

Interracial relationship

in Lore

Posted by: Atlas.9704

Atlas.9704

Is it possible to have interspecies relationships in GW2?
I’d say yes, mainly because it depends on if the writers want it.
They’ve already said that any possible couplings would be infertile anyways.

Do we have any canonical references to such a thing?
We have slight examples of friendship that might be taken that way if you read it in a certain slant.
For example Macha from the book Sea of Sorrows . At one point in the story she pretty much betrays her friends because she wanted Cobiah and her to run away together and have adventures.

Whether this Asura had deep feelings for this human or not, I don’t know.
We do see though that there’s a need for companionship with others that aren’t of their own race.

Even within the Pact there’s Fia and Jasper (Sylvari and Human). Jasper came back to find her because

“I followed you. I didn’t want to, at first, but I realized camp was a lot less interesting without you.”

It has been a while since I did that event.
I’m unsure of the tone and how he says it, but it could be taken as a simple moment between friends. It could also be taken that he does like her.

Then there’s the occasional background stuff like the human who drunkenly brags, “Met an Asura the other day. She called me bookah. I think she likes me.”

Also there’s a Norn Lionguard woman who hits on Charr and Norn at Twinspur Haven Waypoint. She asks if you like to drink or fight, with a charm option as a reply.
When attempting to talk with her as a smaller race (human/slyvari/asura) she isn’t as interested.

Apparently she likes big guys.

So is it possible? Yes the writers have delightfully given enough wriggle room to eventually make such a thing occur. Could a Charr and Asura create sparks together? I think so. It would be interesting to see a Iron Legion Charr have a relationship with an Asura because of intellect. Maybe have some Asura Warrior hang with a Blood Legion Charr more than his Asuran pals because they get along so much easier.

We’ve seen a lot of examples of companionship, it doesn’t take that much to bump into something more if the writers want to do it.

How to protect myself in WvW?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Atlas.9704

Atlas.9704

Well, if they deleted it from PvE, there’d be none, so you couldn’t get the legendary either way. :P

What i meant with it, is that everybody has to go through the part of completing world completion they don’t like. For me that was the world they call PvE.

We all apparently have to suffer through ANet’s idea that all three game modes can be mushed together to maximize the fun.

The PvE crowd really shouldn’t be required to explore WvWvW for map completion.
The WvWvW crowd should have requirements that compliment their game style for the title.

Now as for legendaries, both should have options that don’t necessarily require world completion. I’d be happy if they ever did create alternate ways to get legendaries available.

Anonymity and egos from individuals who are upset at other anonymous folks and their gall to not play how they play.

  • Either a new path to an old Dungeon or a series of mini dungeons
  • I’m going out on a limb and say a minimum of 3 jump puzzles and 2 diving locations
  • PvP getting shafted again on any releases.
  • Minis as achievements for episode completion
  • Possibly up to 4 new skins solely awarded to people who complete the harder achievements.
  • More posts about how they’ve learned so much from Season 2 for Season 3 changes we wanted way back in Season 1.

It really does depend on how long this Season will be though.

Best and Worst of GW2 -- An Opinion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Atlas.9704

Atlas.9704

To me the best and worst things will always be the community (with ‘help’ from Megaserver).
I don’t mind having large maps with no clear goals, that’s where my own motivations should take over.
I don’t mind blues or greens, because if I enjoy the environment then the loot is not so important.

However I’ve noticed that after the Megaserver update, things didn’t necessarily get better for the game.
Certainly there are good moments. I’ve seen newbies get helpful advice in record time. There have been interesting discussions while waiting for a boss to spawn.

Then as I enter racial cities or Lion’s Arch that’s were the less than noble examples show.
I usually see the Mos Eisely side of the forums but with avatars and costumes.

Granted my server was probably a bit quiet, but at least I could enjoy the cities at times.

Though I will admit the megaserver gave me one advantage. When asked to join a guild I can use “I’m not in your server” as an excuse at times.

What do you wish for in Season 2?

in Living World

From a pure game play perspective:

  • Housing: It has been far too long. At the moment there’s not too much that give us a reason to even have this Home Instance. Please make it worthwhile.
  • Cooking or Jewelry to get bumped to 450 or so: I’ll admit it, I’m a craft a holic. I like discovering new recipes.
  • More Utopia concept art brought to life: I loved the look they had in the Utopia concept art. I do realize that EOTN and GW2 are the spiritual inheritors to it. I’d just love to see more.

From a fluff “story” perspective:

  • If we are moving deeper into the jungle, I want to see the White Mantle return. Maybe not even them, but some offshoot that survived.
  • I want to see more Tengu. Even if we can’t play them, I’d love to see one join the Destiny’s Orphans (or whatever they call themselves.)
  • I want the Sylvari feared. They’re a new race and at the beginning of GW2 they were seen with curiosity. Now with the events of Scarlet and the Court still around, I want them to experience some prejudice and fear for a while.
  • I want the Asura to have more spotlight moments as well. We’re moving deeper into territory closer to the Sylvari and Asuran home cities. I’d love to see their struggles with the Inquest, Court, and even the Arcane Council (to some degree).

If you weren’t available to pick up three “episodes” of the story and had to purchase them individually can you pick and choose?
Meaning what if I don’t care about the earlier two, but want in that that recent one I missed out. Can people “skip around” in this mission TiVo?

If so, great!

GW1 seemed to capture a story well enough, even if it was experienced by everyone like it was a single player game.

What Living Story needs is more connections with the existing lore.
It also needs to build up each connection from one release to the other better.
The later parts of the Season 1 sort of got there, but by then the story was pretty much done.

I miss the Festivals in GW1

Atlas.9704

GW1 festivals, to me, were either ‘stand in the corner in 9 rings’ or ‘go to even district for Dwayna item’. Even though the Lore really did try to build them up.
Maybe the occasional beetle racing, but nothing really too exciting otherwise.

Though I do miss having the Gods show up, I also do love GW2’s Aspect Arena and Dodgeball.
Maybe if there were different events from each race, that would help me enjoy the festivals more. So I do love GW2’s festivals over GW1’s, but I do acknowledge that the latter’s were more fleshed out. Then again they were more fleshed out because we were only humans in the game.

I want to see how the Sylvari, Charr, Norn, or Asura celebrate things.
Sure we have Keg Brawl for the Norn, but what about Polymock? Certainly in the 25 years or so the Sylvari have been alive some tradition should have sprouted up at least once.

GW1 had the advantage of one race, but the disadvantage of not being interesting after that. GW2, inversely, has more than one race but not enough of their own activities to flesh them out at the moment.

It’s better than disappearing like some minis. But I feel like Dead Snaff should actually be a kite. I mean obviously he doesn’t have locomotion, so he should be dependent on use to drag his corpse around.

Nah. Dead Snaff backpack.

I’m not sure my character would be able to get over the stench associated with such…. maybe it comes with a clothespin headpiece?

Just make it available to Necros only, they are used to the smell anyways.

I’d be happy if they gave me a bag of Obsidian shards and clovers for the next birthday.
I tend to value things that are useful or can be sold.
One Queen Jennah mini was fine, multiples were not. Unless we have a Mystic Forge recipe I’m unaware of that can use them!
Multiple lvl 20 scrolls and birthday boosters were useful to me, because I am an altaholic.

I got my Gnashblade mini and my panda mini.
I’ll probably dump the rest of the tokens on PvE tomes and Obsidians.

Ah nostalgia, I remembered the Eye of Janthir in GW1.
That’s what pushed me to go with the Isle when server choice came up.

In my opinion, Forgal was better than Tybalt even though Tybalt was fairly entertaining.
Forgal reminded me of the gruff old soldier who finally warms up to you.
It also helps that he was voiced by a man who brought to life various characters I love from television shows.

Though I will admit Tybalt did talk to you like a drinking buddy, Forgal’s dialogue actually had me stop and listen after the initial conversations of a mission were over.

I liked how he went from throwing himself into the Vigil after his family died to seeing your character as the closest to an heir he will have, then ultimately sacrificing himself for you because you are pretty much his legacy now.

What’s more interesting is that Suriel is a Quaggan!
She sure knows how to disguise herself!

That’s one pretty Quaggan.

Side note: Does anyone think Scarlet’s mental deterioration from “whacky” to “dark” was communicated well? Did you see it as a consequence of her fight in her head?

I didn’t think the tone difference was communicated well.
To me it seemed like she’s still goofy during the Tower then suddenly gets sullen and “serious business” in her voice right when Mecha Puppet came into play.

It is difficult sometimes to convey a villain breaking down mentally in a media like this given how they were releasing content and story. I’m not defending Scarlet, but I do understand that if they didn’t hit it right I see why.

I think it would have helped the story if she had her own stable of ‘biconics’ to show how she deteriorated at the time. Yes we had Mai, but after she was beaten and jailed there wasn’t much said other than “she’ll kill me”.

If we couldn’t get into the head of Scarlet due to limitations, at least provide some insights from the folks she’s hired/conscripted. That helps sell the tragedy of a character if the story is written right.
