Tornado + Lightning Rod on enemy ranged is quite fun, if you survive that is… Maybe if it was reflecting projectiles like dagger storm and added some health/armor when activated it would be more viable.
Even asura Power Suit adds stats – I have 4k armor with it – but still pretty useless in 99% scenarios. The elites are ok ideas in general, just lacking something that would make them useful in certain scenarios (for example stability on Power Suit).

IF some day transfer cost is actually based on active WvW population on that server… Expansion could be a really nice point in time to fix some unbalanced things about WvW, but sadly (as usual) we hear almost nothing about it, aside of the new map being added.

If you use 6 in fire and 6 in air (Lighting Rod) you can do ton of dmg in pve. There is currently a bug in game that makes the lighting rod trait proc from any skill. Check out yourself.

The “bug” you are talking about is most likely not a bug. There are certain creatures (Mordrem Menders, several types of spiders, etc.) that get interrupted by critical hits. Interrupt makes Lightning Rod proc. I guess that’s what you are experiencing.

But Lava Font or Fireball is not an interrupt skill ^^

That could be interesting too – players join any random team, no matter on what colour server you are now, to make the numbers closer. If populations are similiar then you get sorted to join the side with your guildies/friends.

Solution: all players transfer to Sfr or the NA equivalent server → Eotm has now only 1 side playing → when everything is capped and no opponents cap it back all the k-trains get derailed!
Then ppl ask themselves: was it worth it?
For real, WvW is not even balanced and you expect an ‘overflow’, ‘when everything is queued play here’ map to be balanced?
I really hope servers get ‘re-structured’ or something before HoT, ladder gets reset, maaybe free transfers for certain servers and finally servers are sorted by WvW daily/weekly active population instead of whole population which means nothing with megaservers. If can’t be done then just remove whole glicko/server system and add battlegrounds where guilds and single players have to sign up for “Which Tier/Server/‘insert name’ would you like to play for during next week?”.

For example – if I want to put my traits like 4 4 2 2 2 – from what I read the specialization only allows to use 3 types of ‘trait line’ at the same time. Is this the same thing in HoT? I think each server has it’s own colors assigned to different usages, but blue is usually THE pugmanget open raid. If you wanna follow guild raids you can always try to join the guild. Ofc, noone can stop you from playing how you want to, it’s up to you to respect it if the guild members ask you to not follow them. You can think yourself about reasons if you should or should not follow.

Not gonna bother replying to each point, but just looking at last one: why would you drop supply crate on the zerg (aka meele train as I understand) – I would use it on the enemy ranged to catch some, these usually have 1-2 stunbreaker, or in some necro cases – don’t have any stunbreakers.

Matches would be more balanced if two losing server could only attack against leading server.

When server 1 gains 20k lead over any of the other 2, server 2 & 3 magically become friends unable to fight each other and only see the server 1 players in red colours – untill server 2 or 3 catches up. :P

Coglin, I think many ppl go with this either/or because they think about their 15v15 or 20v20 gvg player invented mode, where you have to fit in like 5 guardians (if not more) 5 warriors (if not more), 4-5 necro, 4-5 eles, 1-2 thief, 1-2 mesmer – resulting in having problems with fitting in any other classes.

In zerging I never had problems with playing my engi. I’m not super skilled or experienced with it (just one of my many chars, not the main one), but killing ppl or ‘at least’ causing them to die to my zerg was not hard at all. Of course if you try to ‘replace’ other class with engi it won’t work. Each class has it’s own pros and cons. Play engi like an engi, not like engi who try to impersonate a warrior or others…

The problem is that the ‘siege disabled zone’ works like some kind of buff/debuff that only affects the player and not the siege site itself.

Yeah, you can destroy and go take back the camp they took to build it. While yes it would work once, maybe twice, but because you can kill that cata and guild catas are expensive while sup catas are expensive in sups, it really makes it hard to keep it contested constantly.

1 shot from 1 well hidden cata per 4min of the contest time it’s easy to pull off. Unless you keep using it to actually do the dmg and lure defenders on you. The sound of cata shots is easy to be heard if it’s used for longer time, but 1 shot – who would even think about it “Meh, someone shot cata somewhere, maybe it was our own? Bk to my stuff anyway”.

Contesting with siege is pretty easy though, you can just build sneaky cata at sneaky spot and contest it sneaky sneaky Sure it takes 2-3 runs to supply camp or 2-3 friends to come with you, but that looks more ok to me, than a troll running around tagging things for fun while using build with tons of chill/immob/cripple resistance 98% or stances and highest mobility in the game. Ofc you can kill the troll, but like in life or in forums, just the same way in game noone likes to deal with them.

It is breaking the game obviously, because if you take enemy garrison they can treb it back permanently with almost 0 risk – you need counter treb to destroy that one, but how can you counter treb it before your own treb goes down.

I reported this some months ago and nothing has changed about the issue.

I’m not sure about this certain spot, but I think this occurs when you stand at place where you can’t drop siege, but aim the siege to be placed at a valid spot and have an obstacle between you and the spot. That way while the siege is flying to the spot it acts as a projectile and hits the obstacle, resulting in siege build site. Then you just build it and voila – you can use siege at spot where you can’t normally put it down. I can try to make a video of it if I won’t forget about it after work.

So if I put a Stealth Trap in the canyon with sandstorm/dust, the enemies will get revealed…
The map seems nice and a new thing is always a nice refreshment. I only hope it won’t be lagging much when big zergs decide to fight somewhere. I know there is a lot pressure on making ppl split around (and kinda solve the lag problem this way too) – escort dolyaks, take care of sentrys/shrines/supply camp/oasis – but still it’s a nice thing to take part in those huge battles from time to time.

Contest by siege only seems fair solution. Fighting for keeps with WP would need to have another thing in them – either you have a golem or other siege hitting the gate somwhere or the enemies can instantly wp back to either help defend the garri or get farmed at waypoint, either way it would be interesting.
Ah yes, and Bloin would have to put away his nomad runner gear and learn to fight actually

So the expansion is supposed to add another new boon and new condition. Since it’s already lagging with stability change I’m really thinking about getting the expansion. Would be even greater “if you don’t buy it – you won’t be affected by these new boon/condi”… Sadly I’m afraid we get these not depending on if we have xpac or not. Let’s just hope the new map is created in some more ‘healthy’ programming way and the old can get some overhaul (most lag was present while in SM lord room/garri lord room – at open field it’s much better, but still laggy when blobs collide). Oh and that the servers get more power (miraculously!).

Blobbing is sure some kind of problem, but since the game mechanics allow for 90vs90vs90 battles, then it can be expected that the game can handle it. But it can not. I’m pretty sure 90% ppl would never complain about blobbing if the fights were going smooth with no lags. Just look at it as epic battle where you are able to use all your skills. In my eyes it looks great, but thanks to lag it kinda feels like watching b&w TV in 2015 – we have the picture but kinda not what is expected.

Your power is very low and healing power is too high imo. I would replace the celestial parts. Change traits as poster above said. Standard d/d ele is 0 2 0 6 6, but if you like experimenting and learn things step by step then your choice. Trait I in water to III and X to IX possibly, since your cantrips will give you even more boons and the regen will work with grandmaster trait and remove condi if needed. Mist form is kinda meh – you use it ok, you don’t take dmg but you also don’t do dmg while the warrior is constantly regenerating. I would take something else instead, Arcane Shield, Armor of Earth, Signet of Air, any of these. Mist form is ok for zerging where you can expect a big area of dmg you need to pass through and similiar scenarios.

Warrior doesn’t do that much dmg constantly. Usually it takes a while to get their burst skill ready. You need to make sure to dodge the big hits like eviscerate or knockdowns on hammer, all depends on the build of warrior. Eviscerate (axe) will try to stun you with shield usually to make sure his F1 lands. Hammer usually have trait +20% dmg to knocked down, so avoid getting knocked down. Kite around or drop some cc skill while he uses stance (except when it’s stability + stances – then only kite or just increase the distance, pretend you run or w/e). It takes some practice, but with time you will see which skills are necessary to dodge and which you can take on. The animations tell which is which. When you get the experience you it will allow you to use more offensive gear as well…

You can use cheaper versions of foods from 60 lvl or even lower if you want to save money that much, but it always helps a bit.

I think for some time ppl will be just exploring the new map, but eventually zergs will form and result in the same as we have now during 3-way. Even now it feels laggy in a fight between 2 servers on EB, after the stability change. Server’s can’t handle it it seems :S

I remember in old days me and guild used to do runs there to gather siege for our guild commanders, but nowadays…
Removing sieges from TP to make it like in old times would bring ppl back to the JP’s imo.
Being given tons of badges of honor for killing pve champions / capturing empty non defended towers and in general karma training in EoTM makes ppl forget about JP totally. There is no “Honor” in taking something with 0 resistance or killing a champion mob Or the badge needs new name “Badge of Zergling” or something like that.

Hello.
Some months/year ago Arena Net disabled the use of siege at spots near to citadel/spawn so that it is more “fair play” and to prevent players abusing it. However last times I have seen (and many other players) that not all areas are covered. Here is a spot where players are able to build siege while themselves remaining invulnerable.

Overall, there is a small percentage of players who are willing to sit in a tower doing nothing but watching for enemy movement.

Servers with bigger populations will naturally have more of these people, and servers with smaller populations will have fewer.

I agree with this kinda.

The change itself might not be a bad thing – if you want to keep your stuff and win matches week by week – you will need to organize some people to do scouting.

In “wonderland” scenario you have lot of ppl on the maps, who are willing to cooperate, all understand and speak english and in general, everything is scouted and the commander can happily zerg around.

In reality though, most players go to where the “action” happens and that means join the biggest blob out there (the more we are the easier we win! – not really the truth but w/e) to have the biggest chance of obtaining the most rewards – lootbag farming, bags from champs in towers, WXP… To all this – add, that at different times you have different amount of ppl, as well as you have matchups where servers numbers are totally unbalanced as well as offtime (nightcap) where most ppl from your designated timezone sleep and “zombies”/americans/euros/asians are free to conquer it all.

Additional thing is: what reason would the old veterans have to “try and win yet another week” – and with that – a reason to organize all scouts/sieges/…. Oh we won this week, great. Reset comes and we have to go again. Then again, and again, and again. Week by week, it might be different enemy servers, but main problem is the same. Why do we do it? Sure it feel good to be on the winner side, but what does it actually change? Why not just go zerg/roam around a bit, instead sit in/around tower for long time – most fun is to participate in active things, not passive sitting and waaaaiting if something actually happen. I don’t see the carrot, that we could chase after, week by week, actually trying to go for that victory.

What could be that carrot on a stick, that would make ppl go “We have to do our best!” ??? It’s yet to be discovered.

During seasons, there were some weekly rewards + AP for the hunters (not much last time though) + dolyak statue if you actually “achieve” something (or outnumber the enemies for long enough, call it how you like). These rewards feel like, meh ok, some nice addition, but kinda not there yet.
However, if those rewards would be the rewards for weekly play (even half of what we get during 1 week of tourny), tokens allowing to unlock new skins, or hell, you could exchange tokens for gems or some BLC skins – wouldn’t that motivate ppl week by week to play with some big reason?
Then during tournament, you would just need something extra, some crazy sparkling shiny skin, rare materials for legendary, something for home instances – a thing that would make you go and stick into WvW for that extra time and extra effort.

Carrot -> motivates ppl to do things -> ppl start scouting/roaming/upgrading/care about sieges -> then we can experiment with changes (imo).

About PPK – not even visible, especially after just few hours after patch. Would be nice if we could actually see in game, how many kills your server did. Right now we only see points going up, but where they come from? Still, mostly from held structures.

I still think this is a god awful idea, even on large servers people don’t want to stand around ticking siege, losing out on fun fights, losing out on wxp, losing out on loot. It’s a thankless job, and very boring.

White swords mean you only need sentries on keeps/garrisons.

No white swords mean you will basically need sentries on every tower you want to keep. Anything Tier 3 you’ll have to have a sentry on.

Where do you find that many people who want to just stand around ticking siege for an hour or so at a time?

In fact I see an extremely negative thing coming from this change.

Literally watch duty rosters.

Because servers won’t be able to find enough people for sentry duty and the few that do volunteer will be sentry for extended hours which is just stupid, they will resort to guilds having sentry duty rosters. They will draft you to watch a tower or garrison on a schedule, and unless you have a good excuse like work or something, you might just find yourself kicked from your guild for failing to show up for scheduled sentry duty.

Is that what you want from Guild Wars 2? World of Warcraft raid guild mentality where you’re expected to be there on raid schedule or get kicked?

I agree a lot with this. Scouting is the most non-rewarding job in this game – yes we can use word job, because that’s how it feels when doing it “when noone else wants to”. Even if enemy attack the tower and you get on siege, tag them all and your zerg wipe all the enemies (most positive scenario) you don’t get as much rewards/fun as if you were running around the map with the zerg or roaming in my opinion. No wonder so many servers play only in the evenings when guilds have raids and give up on trying to win, because there are no ppl willing to do these – and if there are, those few won’t manage to do it 24/7, that’s how WvW rolls.

Now, about white swords as you say, where will the scouts come from? Servers have lot of problems with these, unless you are stacked to the roof like the most populated WvW servers in the game atm. Keeps like garri/bay/hills/EB keep/SM need multiple scouts also. If it’s golem rushed and no white swords = I understand it as no attacker timer as well, then if the attack is not spotted right away, it will reach inner gates in a matter of seconds… This turns WvW more into EoTM where ppl gave up on defending and simply run around trying to get exp/karma/lootbags.

The real problem is “How to promote players to join the less populated WvW servers?”, having white swords or PPK is smaller issue than the population imbalances in the end. Maybe WvW just needs diffferent structure overall; most people mentality is like this – why struggle if you can get the same with less efforts, why fight against the odds versus stacked server if there will come time of day/night when you just don’t have the coverage and loose it, easier to join the winning server, isn’kitten

Anet never said anything about increasing the server caps but we all know they’ll do it eventually anyway so venting is pointless. You can still play with your guild in EotM!

80 is the limit per server atm if im not in mistake.

He meant whole server capacity = all players that reside on it, not just WvW map cap

I still don’t understand why guilds/single ppl join those most stacked servers claiming they want to fight there. Why not join a server that actually fights versus those servers, you will then have enemies all the time anywhere you go.

Also – no, the caps should actually be lowered imo. Already too many bandwagoners who want easy wins and hiding in the blobs spamming 111 only. How can this even be called competetive… I hope the next step before any future tournament is a BIG effort to fix population imbalances.

You took a screen of a lucky night and posted it! Usually we are far outnumbered during this period, for example, tonight Deso had the usual World War Z karma-army around with 60+ players at 6am and we even had tally +0. So definetly, YES we need more player during the night

If you look further into past matchups, there Deso had more “lucky nights”, still it was easily nullified by Sfr morning/day crew and that’s why you was winning the matchups. Not even gonna mention matchups where there was no Deso = all nights yours. You can ask players from your own server how they were bored of this pvd and nothing to do…
Now however, it’s whole different story after all this excessive recruitment, you finally got yourself zombie army 2x bigger than Deso’s from what I read on our forum about yesterday’s night – right before the season and this is versus 2nd and 3rd most stacked servers. Biggest morning, day and night coverage, gg.

When you get marks spammed right under your feet proccing their effects instantly? Not that they do big harm (well, depends on situation)…
Gust – Ele focus #5 – no animation – knockdown only though.

Probably more non telegraphed attacks on different proffestions as well, if you count that for “no counter play”. I see it as something, that you can’t react to – do something on time to not have the negative effect hit you.

Love the first picture, if you see there was 2 Backstabs withing 6 secs(10:40 and 10:46) (excluding the 2x C&D) , 8.9k and 9k, you know you can only land 1 evicerate in that same time with time to spare, and I’m not saying is easy on a moving target but it can be done. On the other hand you can see the whole telegraph warrior burst skill and you can easily dodge.

First of all: timer in GW2 doesn’t show seconds, it’s minutes.
Second: dummy’s don’t dodge/hit back.

Only staff can do AoE burns and stack bleeds reasonably. All other weapons are single target, for example dagger only offers aoe burns, single target bleeds (not counting churning earth with that long kitten cooldown), scepter can stack bleeds better but – single target.
Confusion pretty useless in PvE. Poison – not on ele and sigil would be single target. Torment – meh, mobs will be stacked and not moving, bosses probably too.

In that situation I would go for max bleed durations. You will get enough burn duration from traits/food.

With sigil stacks + miniumum 10 might that you should have in fights, you will have fine ticks. Depending on your party, you would have some fury as well, with this high crit chance you could do some raw dmg besides condi dmg only. I think it’s a waste going for condi dmg only, because you don’t get THAT much increase in ticks after certain value of condi dmg stat. If you want more power/less crit chance – exchange some rampager for carrion – that would increase your HP pool as well, if you don’t feel sure enough about dodges/want to go closer instead ranged all time.

That is it, if you really are determined to play condi ele in PvE. Necros with epidemic do it much better, but it’s your choice.

I have yet to be hit by 9-10k backstab, so 15-20k numbers are out of thief reach imo.

This is footage from a full glass thief. He has to use ALL his utilities to get might/boost to dmg to even get close to warrior numbers, leaving him with almost nothing if his combo fails. All this is from before thie Ferocity patch, and the highest numbers 16k are on some squishy or uplvl guys (not to mention they’re total nubcakes, but it’s just to show the numbers). Now, how many hits will it take to kill 12k hp 1800 armor thief?

Warrior however… “F1 , oww he dodged, switches to GS – run away 1500 range, 7sec later F1 magic button is ready again, Boom! 12k, 7-10sec, Boom! 15k”. Feel free to input random 2-3k auto atk hits in between.

Because some ppl posting below didn’t seem to have read my previous post, go read it. This is about WvW zerg situations where zerker thief pulling out 16k numbers will just evaporate from few hits.
If you read the part about 1v1, it’s not big problem to beat a warrior.
This is not crying post. This is pointing out at a certain problem with balance of warrior class, just like other people in this thread are trying to point out.

The thing is, in every situation the “balance” and “op-ness” will be different.

1v1 duels – You can clearly see the enemy movements/skill, maybe bit less if it’s an asura, but still, if you know the class and have correct build, you should be able to at least dodge the most damaging hits if you only have endurance. Good show in the ranger vs war video.

5v5 spvp thingy/small roaming groups – Still can dodge pretty well, because you can SEE and react to almost every enemy (backstab), unless they heavily focus you, then it’s gg if you haven’t run away or been immobilized/cc’d forever.

Big WvW fights – Here you can’t see/dodge every single skill. Obviously you can’t pay attention to every enemy, so you just focus on your job and try to move in correct places. As you see in the video, most of the guys who get hit either don’t react on time, don’t have vigor to dodge or simply don’t see it coming because focused on enemy group movements/casting their skills/being noob, call it how you want. This is where eviscerate shine (as a focus group member in organized group), with all the war mobility and you see big hits as in the video, with all might stacks/sigil stacks on enemys not expecting 15-20k dmg in 1 hit out of nowhere. Hit and run! He is squishy, but not really focused by anyone, partially thx to mobility, partially thx to him being able to strike first.

The balance lies in the middle and I think anet tries to balance it around their favourite spvp mode. Some adjustments could be made though, in the WvW mode especially. Warrior does have dmg condensed into some big hittings skills, but some might be a little to much. Having 25 might+sigil stack might be the extreme scenario to show it, but if those 15-20k hits were replaced with a bit lower numbers, it would seem a bit more reasonable.
