Well, I got a group together and tried the final chapter again. After an hour of fighting, Mordremoth glitched in the last phase and became invulnerable. I have now uninstalled GW2.
You need to use CC on the breakbar.
The problem with the event, bugs aside, is that the scaling is screwed up. The required quantity of scrap is tied to the number of players – which is fine in normal salvage events where the stuff to be collected is either plentiful, or acquired by tagging. But this event is wierd with that.
Instead, the collectible is a dropped package by the Veteran Frogs – and no matter how many people there are, there are only so many frogs spawned, and each one drops only a single collectible to be turned in. Worse, the frog’s health scales with the number of players, so no matter how many people are there, it takes the same amount of time to kill the same amount of frogs to get the same amount of parts… but the number of parts needed increases dramatically per player involved.
They are on the ground too.
Non Raiders blocked from XP bar spirit shards

The point of this thread is very valid. Players who have absolutely no interest in raids or raiding and who have absolutely no use for a raid mastery are being “encouraged” to do them just so they can have a use for excess XP again. It’s like asking a jazz-hating metal-head to buy a Robbie Coltrane album just to earn a Metallica bonus track.
The jazzers are saying “Hey, you might like it”, “Broaden your mind”, “You don’t know if you don’t try it” but the metal-head is thinking “But all I want is the bonus track”.
I think it’s actually worse. The metal-head could think, “ok, I’ll try it just to unlock the track”, but then isn’t able because he needs to find 9 other people who also want to do it with him. But those jazzier don’t want strangers and his metal-head friends don’t care…
That’s not all of it. Even if you do manage to find a group for one raid boss and unlock the mastery, you still need the extra mastery points. Bloodstone Fen does not give enough MP to max the raid mastery, which means that the rest of the MP must be gotten either by doing the gold adventures that you haven’t done or raiding even more. Getting gold on some adventures was hard enough for some people, but having to get gold on the harder ones that you have ignored will be even worse.
This is incorrect.
You need 49 MP for Tyria and 121 MP for Maguuma to max those masteries.
There’s currently an excess of 17 Tyria MP and 31 Maguuma MP.
There are 14 MP that can be obtained from raids. One of them just requires a completed instance as you channel a “place of power” to get it. Another point you will get when you beat any of the bosses. So this leaves 12 MP.
If you remove the remaining 12 MP you can get from raids, that leaves 19 MP available. If you remove the 15 MP that you get from obtaining gold in the adventures, that’s now 4 MP available.
My post was a bit harsh and didn’t really accomplish much so I’ll take another stab at it.
Vinetooth doesn’t really need a nerf. I’ve seen in killed with just a handful of players and I’ve seen it killed with the entire map practically stacked on it. I’ve also seen it fail in both scenarios with the leading reason being a lack of CC.
Let’s face it. Until HoT, players never really needed to know how to CC. It had some uses to interrupts attacks but PvE was generally easy enough where even that wasn’t necessary. Now we have the new mechanic with the break-bar where we need to deplete it with control skills to prevent devastating attacks, stop a devastating attack, or to open it up for a bun phase. The latter being the case with the vinetooth.
The best solution would probably be to list off exactly what the CC effects are before any fights where it would matter. It can even be some message saved in notepad that you copy and paste into map chat. Players can then looks at their skills/utilities, see what produces those effects, and save them for when the break-bar is up. Quite often the break-bar is on a timer or during a phase which is predictable. It just takes one person to step up and lead players into preparing to use CC and then to actually use it.
Well they can just make the Chak caches, that are made available after Gerent, provide a gauranteed rare and then nerf AB so players can only open the large chests (the ones that give a rare) once per map cycle.
I don’t think nerfing Tarir rewards is a good solution. Instead the rewards from the chak gerent event need to reflect the difficulty of the event itself. I’ve never even completed it (haven’t tried but a few times though) because only one lane has to screw up for everyone to fail the event whereas Tarir is much more forgiving in that even if 3 of the gates fail you still get rewards from the meta event. I think giving players a guaranteed rare for completing it and making it more forgiving like Tarir (so multiple lanes could fail and you could still get rewards, just not as many as if all lanes had succeeded)
AB rewards are so out of line compared to every other area of the game simply because all a player has to do is hope to another map. I disagree about Gerent needing to be nerfed even further than what it has been so far.
It takes maybe 30 min to run from VB to DS; likely less. You do not need to do any events in TD in order to gain access to DS.
…Great. You run to Dragon Stand. Then what?
If it’s not 30-minutes before event restart, nothing. That’s what. If you’re not in the bloated LFG squad waiting to do the event, then nothing.
gg, Anet.
And? Their issue was that they did not have access to the map yet.
“And?” I just spelled out the “and” for this. Getting to Dragon Stand is only half the problem. Ignoring that is just being utterly callous and oblivious. Having Dragon Stand events is worse than having a daily rotation boss, because of how inaccessible they are.
There’s no excuse to yield to bad design just for the sake of being contentious. And please remove activities from the daily PvE rotation. The activities are not PvE.
They are PvE.
Wait, what?
A game activity that is competitive against other players is PvE?
No.
Daily Activity is PvP, it’s just not accessed through the PvP interface.
There are three game modes: sPvP, PvE, WvW. Which one does it fit in? Certainly not sPvP or WvW.
Answer: Mu. Your question is wrong.
Also, activities are:
- player versus player
- with set, structured skills.
Activities are much more sPvP than any other category. To ignore that is simply being dense for the sake of arguing. But, to refer to the misguided question of “where does Daily Activity belong: PvE, PvP, or WvW?” The answer is none of them. It belongs in a trash bin of bad ideas. It most closely resembles PvP, but it isn’t, so ANet ought to just drop it and make the Activities rewarding enough on their own.
Read their post. I was responding strictly to what they wrote. Whether or not the events can be done solo or having to rely on a group wasn’t part of what we were discussing.
It’s not wrong. There are three game modes. It does not match sPvP. Activities are fun mini games that players could play. just because you compete with other players does not make it any less PvE.
PVE = Player Vs Environment
PVP = Player Vs Player
You are specifically competing against other players/teams (did you think those other players are just really good AIs). In at least Sansun Survival they are shooting at you. You get a score at the end. That is no PVE thing I have ever seen where you cooperate with other players, not kill them.
There are three game modes in GW2:
1. PvE
2: sPvP
3: WvW
They don’t fit within the last two game modes. If you don’t like doing them then just don’t do them. It’s that simple.
EDIT:
Not every possible thing that can be made a daily will fit perfectly into those categories. It wouldn’t make sense to have activities in sPvP just as it wouldn’t make sense to have them in WvW. Yes, a lot of the activities have some form of PvP element but that doesn’t necessarily mean that they cannot be included in PvE. There really isn’t anywhere else to put them.
The great thing about the dailies is that we have twelve choices each day or just four if you’re one of the one who prefer to play in only one game mode. It’s unfortunate but you can play however you want to play. Those that choose to limit themselves can even do so further if there are specific achievements within a particular game mode which they do not like and would rather just skip. Activities could be such an example for PvE only players.
There’s nothing that can really be done about this as removing those achievements likely isn’t an option for Anet and adding the total number of choices to choose from each day would diminish their goal with the daily achievements. Yes, the goal hasn’t affected all players but it has for some. There are players trying different things outside of what they normally do simply because there is a daily achievement for it.
If you don’t like any of the achievements, and you don’t want to play in either of the other two game modes, just skip doing the daily for that day. The 2G and three spirit shards just isn’t worth the effort for you that day. It’s not the end of the world and there will be other days.
For those that have no issues with doing dailies across any of the other game modes, your options are even greater. If you’re primarily a PvE players, there are custom PvP rooms that have practically no PvP unless kills or defend happen to be one of the dailies. In that case, there’;s usually a designated point that is used for those two. WvW has several dailies such as the veteran slayer, guards, camps, dolyak, and ruins which don’t really on interacting with enemies to complete.

Thanks for the quick responses, folks!
So to SWAP names, I’d need three contracts?
C1 -> temp. name
C2 -> N1
C1 -> N2
No. Just two.
Actually, just thought about it some more. Yes, you would need three. I was forgetting the placeholder for the first character.
(edited by Ayrilana.1396)
You’ll need two contracts. The names are reserved for you for like 24 hours.

Most do not scale down? I’ve done pretty much all events that don’t have a champ so yes they can be done solo.
I have not done to much HoT since the Spring Update, but before that there where many events in AB and TD, without champs that where WAY to difficult due mostly to spawn rates. I could certainly survive and kill things, but more would spawn to fast to keep up with, and I have been playing since Beta. Granted I am not the strongest player, but certainly at least above average.
As an example, what about the event on the east side of AB where you have to kill the vine tenders that continuously spawn and kill off the all the other stuff that spawns down below and kill off the big vine thing that is the event? How can you possible solo that?
A couple other examples in TD where your supposed to guard things while a gazilion chak spawn constantly. I can kill tons and tons of chak, but not enough to eventually be overwhelmed. With a person or two to help, it’s quite doable however.
True. Events that require coordination for two or more things would be difficult to do. I remember trying to do that event once in AB and being unable to as I could keep both down long enough.
I can’t think of anywhere in TD where a defend even could not be done solo. I’ve done Ogre chain up to the fight with the vine in the tree. I’ve done Rata Novus up to where the Chak boss spawns when you complete the console event. I’ve done the Nuhoch chain up to when you escort them in their first patrol and encounter the boss. I haven’t really done Scar lane from start to finish in one sitting but I don’t recall any of the event having been that difficult until you escort the NPC down into the lane.
You should also remember there were a lot of players calling for HoT to have dailies too.
Most of the calls I saw about that was for there to be a HOT category.
I don’t recall see for it to have its own category being what most of the calls were for.
And please remove activities from the daily PvE rotation. The activities are not PvE.

I wanted to be excited that DS was on the rotation the other day, but then 9pm rolled around and I wasn’t in the Precious Squad to go do the event, so I hit up a PvP room instead, did the easy Bloodstone Fen dailies, then quit.
gg, Anet.

Frustratingly, if you have HOT you get punished in the PVE dailies. At rollover I usually have both my HOT account and my non-HOT account logged in at the same time. For the HOT one: 4 events in DS. Well, that is a wash since I have yet to even get to the zone (if the event to get there from TD will succeed I will crash). My non-hot account? It replaces the HOT events with a low-level zone instead.
This is one reason I haven’t purchased HoT and probably won’t unless they start offering non-HoT events instead or in addition to.
If you own HoT, HoT events are added into the cycle of maps. You are not stuck doing only HoT events for the dailies.
I never said I was but when a hot map comes up you do not have the option to do a not-hot map instead.
Just like when a vista daily for Shiverpeaks doesn’t give you the option to do Ascalon. Just like how a daily to for engineer/Ele/rev/warrior wins doesn’t let you do the other classes. Just like how the daily for mining in Orr doesn’t let you do logging in Ascalon.
You are insisting on missing the point. When shiverpeaks come up, fine, everyone, hot or non-hot does it. Most likely do your gathering then pop over to WF to do the shaman events.
IF you have bought HOT your rotation now changes. Whereas before you could go do some brainless thing on WF now you have to go to a level 80 map as a thank-you for buying HOT.
Basically, whether you call the HOT significantly harder or not, you are degrading your experience doing dailies as a thank-you for buying HOT. This does not happen if you do not buy HOT.
I am sure I am not the only one who has not reached DS. So having me do something there is pretty much saying I have one less possible daily.
In not missing the point. You’re just trying to argue one which doesn’t have much basis.
All of the dailies that are in HoT are added onto the existing daily lineup. They don’t replace anything. All that has happened is that there are more variations in which dailies you end up with every day. You should also remember there were a lot of players calling for HoT to have dailies too.
Your gathering example doesn’t make sense. If it was Orr then you’d have to jump to a level 75+ map. Dailies are based in the highest level character on the account. Yes, sometimes you will not be able to do every single one on a character that you are leveling. But then it’s not like you’d be able to when the daily is a dungeon or fractal.
Your experience is not being degraded. It’s being enhanced with more options to what the four dailies could be.
You’re making ther personal choice to not reach DS. Your ability to do that daily or not is entirely on you. If you choose not to do it then the only one you can blame is yourself rather than the daily system.
HoT is MUCH harder content than 90+% of all the previous content. Most events in TD and AB do not scale down so a single player can solo them. I think your best bet is to find a guild or your going to have to hope to get lucky with map population. Popping a tag is another option as that will often collect players to your location.
You should be able to explore all of the HoT maps, even Solo, but don’t expect to be able to complete all the events.
Most do not scale down? I’ve done pretty much all events that don’t have a champ so yes they can be done solo.

It is not the time. WIthout doing the events you need to run there and the mordem at the end of the ogre lane keep killing me.
Even so, why should an account I did NOT pay extra money to anet with get an easier daily?
I have ran past them on every class without any issues. If you cannot run past them then kill them.

AB should just be nerfed so you can’t hop map instances or add some DR where you can only get so many rares from the chests.
Point being that I’d like to be able to do dailies without having to engage in PvP/WvW, it used to be a viable option, but Anet seems to have jumped on the e-sport train nonsense, and it just isn’t working for all of us.
My entire guild has quit since HoT came out, I’m the last hold out. I wish HoT never happened honestly.
Dailies have nothing to do with esports not do they have anything to do with the condition that pvp is in.
PvE dailies have ALWAYS been viable. I cannot remember a single day that you could not complete the daily meta by doing just PvE dailies.
Actually, I will post a screenshot of the in-game text telling you specifically how to bring down the shield.
As many people have pointed out, the NPCs babble about a lot of things – why would I suddenly think they have something useful to say? And I’m not going to read chat during a fight that I’m in by myself.
Well if players choose to ignore hints from a specific area of the game, such as NPC chats, then it is completely on the players for figuring out how to do the encounters and in no way means the encounters are badly designed.
Actually, I will post a screenshot of the in-game text telling you specifically how to bring down the shield.
If players would use their CC instead of being deadweight, it would be no issue. I’ve seen an entire map burn him down so there no reason smaller groups cannot.
Thought about it some more and players likely just don’t know what CC is as there hasn’t been a need for it until recently (relatively).
The best action that can probably be taken, although not the easiest, would be to instruct players exactly what is CC. Simply saying conditions like daze, knockdown, stun, fear, and so on may be just enough to give players a general idea on what to look for. Just have them check there utilities and skills for skill that produce such effects and to save them when the break-bar is up.

As opposed to core builds that are normally locked to one or two trees anyway?
Quality over quantity. I’d rather have a couple armor sets instead of a dozen outfits. Also, that nine months time frame is ridiculous. Some part of the process is taking longer than it should.
Have you designed, implemented, and tested armor before? If not, how do you know?
simple maths.
if it takes 9 months for an armour sets, then guild wars 2 could not possibly have developed more than 12 or so armour sets since development began. there are blatantly more than 12 armour sets in game.
the statement itself is either false or far too vague. does it take 9 months total time? 9 months of doing 1 hour a day? how many people? how much of their time? is this with a dedicated armour team? is the modelling done by someone assigned to the armour team, or are modelers independent of teams?
either way, the flat 9 month figure is not and cannot be accurate, unless Anet’s figured out time travel.
It’s just vague for the reasons you stated. I doubt that a team starts on developing an armor set from concept to the final tested product without interruptions and focusing solely on that task without doing other projects. This happens in the business world so there’s little reason to not expect the same in game development.
Doing the maths is misleading also for what you stated. We don’t know the variables and conditions. So using the number of armor sets available at launch compared to now won’t give you accurate results.
As long as XP and loot were based on the number of waves or tiers completed.

And, 30 sets? Human, Sylvari and Norn can use basically the same set. Asura and Charr don’t need different sets for male and female. There, I just reduced it to 12 sets. Nine, if you have Human, Sylvari and Norn use the same set for male and female because, why not?
Just because they are similar, does not mean that they are the same. You’re purposely reducing the variability that most armor sets have between races, weights, and genders in order to back up your argument which is just misleading.
Of course making armor is hard and takes time. If it is too much of a hassle, then maybe that is something that should have been discussed while developing a game where a primary part of endgame is cosmetics.
It’s a trade off. They only have so many artists and there are other areas to invest their time in that provides more benefit to players than a few armor sets would.
It sounds as if you were attacking the bloodstone shard thinking that destroying it would remove the shield.
Not an unreasonable assumption, given meta-gaming thought and a history of RPGs. :P
It took a short while for me to notice the faded pink-purple Counter Magic button that clued me in that I was supposed to do something else. It does sort of blend into the background, and I don’t yet have a keybind for it. (I should fix that tonight.)To be honest, I missed any context of Marjory spewing out the fight strat, and a mishap with the bloodstone elementals before then led to me waiting for them to chip off unstable bloodstone shards, as they do elsewhere in Bloodstone Fen.
It’s bound to the “-” key by default. Given how quickly you need to activate it, I would most definitely rebind it.
Do the explanations say that you have to cross the red beam through the enemies?
Yes.
Oh wait. It actually works? I tried clicking it yesterday, got some sound effect, but nothing else. Don’t even know what to expect…
If you don’t see anything then the event cycle is in cooldown. Typically you’ll see up to three of the red bloodstone mist clouds with a model (similar to the mini pets) for each of the ones that are active. You won’t see a text notification when you click it like the one for the anomaly.
As long as you’re on a map, you should see the map wide notification that it spawned as well as the boss icon on the map. The device technically isn’t a necessity to complete the collections so there’s no need for anyone to stress over it too much.

In case someone else gets stuck on it, here’s how your break her shield:
1) get hit by the bloodstone – this will form a stream between you and the bloodstone, empty your endurence bar and low you down.
2) use the new Mastery skill – this will keep the stream active and remove the endurence denial and slow effect so you can move freely.
3) walk outside of the circle she forms in with her ring-shaped path when she spins around.
4) Get her to walk through the stream – once you hit her with it, it will deplete her shield down quite quickly. It’s a good strategy to follow her path a bit to keep her in the stream.that’s how you remove her shield!
I got stuck on it for a bit so I thought I should post the solution hereI’ve been destroying the middle crap for over half an hour and none of the NPCs will are helping.
Only once has it been able to be hit, all other times even when the bloodstone shard in the middle is down, she’s STILL invulnerable and that makes NO sense.
Half an hour for a player doing all the right things is far more torture than Anet should ask of any player.
This is painful, seriously, painful, my fingers are almost numb and HURT.
Anet, you failed on this garbage without instructions that make any sense.
I am so horridly tired of “guessing” at your silly mechanics that hardly ever work and hurt to boot.
Now, after 40 minutes (I came back after posting this), the skill to kill the bloostone shard isn’t working AT ALL.
Bugs are killing IT let alone gaming. None of you can figure out how to document your code so you can fix it later? What the heck?
This isn’t a game sequence, this is damage to hands and fingers for no reason.
What’s just as bad is the text speech that marks that the skill isn’t working (my speech bubble) never shows in ANY screenshot, what’s up with that, ANET?
There were instructions. Each section eased you into the mechanics. Marjory even told you what to do.
So the NPC’s just standing here are “as intended”?
And the instructions don’t matter if the skill isn’t working, at all, stops after 20 minutes.
So don’t tell me I didn’t follow instructions, I did. This is a sorry excuse for a fight scene.

You have tier 1 fractals if you want faceroll content. There is no reason that fractals can’t get progressively more difficult to ease players into raids.
It doesn’t reflect skill so you’d still get roughly the same results.
People trying to tank their MMR would drive their pips down into Amber. Having a separate number determine matches means that pips do not correlate with skill. If pips determined match-making they inevitably WOULD reflect skill (at least without lock-ins). Just think about it.
No they wouldn’t. Pips, tiers, and divisions only show progression. They in no way resemble individual player skill.
Did you guys at least implement a method to prevent the MMR-tanking strategies many players used to get to legendary in S1?
I skipped that season completely due to the terrible match-making and this tanking thing, so am glad I only have a few days of participation to finish my back-piece and not care about PvP, esp. since eles are still so boring.
It’s a shame that you guys can’t just match people based on pip-range alone. Its so simple, it might just work!

Oh forgot about that one. I figured most people that have the skill would get it accidentally.
To explain is the damaged, cheap and clumsy cousin of to imply.
Some people mute some sounds of the game to play, other don’t put attention to dialogues, other don’t properly understand them (I play the game in english because I hate dubbing , but I don’t understand it well unless I’m giving it full attention).
Anyway, the “preparation fight” was poorly done and really misleading. Should they fix it, the problem with the justicar will instantly dissapear.
The preparation fight was fine. It’s just that players were able to stack on the shard and get lucky. If players don’t listen or read, how else were they to be instructed on the mechanics? Does Anet have take from infantile mode in SAB and have arrows pointing to what to do? Part of games is learning to look at a challenge and overcome it. Otherwise why not just ask Anet to make a movie version of the LS instead.
Are you new to these forums? Of course they have to baby people through content, that or deal with a stream of complaints because people had to actually press a button to get their rewards.
I’m quite forgetful today it seems. Half tempted to post the screenshot that I took the other day with Marjory telling the player what to do.

In addition to Spirit Shard gating, locked raid mastery also prevents other raid wings training and exploration. For example, raid wing 3 requires Thicket Water mastery, which prohibits game play for new raiders. Rift Traveler is also really helpful in VG training, where new raider parties frequently fail and have to restart. There’s no need to gate Rift Traveler ability behind defeating a raid boss.
What benefit would a player gain from having early access to rift traveler if they have yet to beat a raid boss? It’s not like they’d be able to use the vendor.
You can restart the fight faster. Isn’t that good? Is it why there’s /surrender command in raid?
I added more to my post. The time saved is minimal.
Even it’s minimal, Anet still cares about it by adding /surrender or /gg command. Raid takes a significant time and effort. Every second counts!
And I don’t think we should rely on other players’ Thicket Waters mastery. How would you find that perfect composition for new raiders whom most elite raiders don’t really care about? Honestly, I’ve been searching for LFR for at least two weeks and never found any party offering that option. Could it be simpler if new raiders already have Waters mastery and are ready to join?
What you said is impractical. Have you ever noticed current LFR? They requires serious experiences, gears and tons of Legendary Insights (or kicked!). So, please be realistic.
There’s a difference to 10 seconds saved by gliding over to the starting spot (assuming you have gliding progressed enough) to having to force a wipe by dying because you have dead team members.
You literally only need at most 3 players with the mastery to do the escort. Once you progress past the cave, it is no longer needed. You can even have a Mesmer run through it and port people up.
Also be aware that you have the ability to create your only LFG ad rather than solely relying on an existing one. Want to group with other players regardless as to their level of experience? Create your own LFG. It’s not that difficult and players had this ability well before HoT when they were then complaining about the requirements some players held for dungeons.
OK.
- What’s the point of gating raid mastery behind defeating a raid bossM
- What’s the benefit of it?
- How gating improve players or gameplay experience?
- What’s the negative effect of allowing raid mastery unlocked by default?
It’s something you earn by beating a boss and the use of the masteries are solely within raids. It encourages players to play the raid even if it’s just one boss. That also happens to be one of the reasons why there are gates as it encourages players to experience content. It’s why HoT masteries require XP earned on HoT maps. Gating content like what they have done, promotes players to experience the content rather than simply rush through the story.
I know the general idea of Mastery. But you didn’t answer my questions.
Please answer each question above, plus the following:
- Why Fractal Mastery isn’t gated by defeating a fractal boss?
I did answer your questions. It just wasn’t in bullets.
Fractal masteries enhance your ability to progress through the tiers. While you could forego them entirely, it would then cost you quite a bit of gold. The mechanics you use in the lower tiers is really not all that different than what you use in the higher tiers. With very few exceptions (e.g. Cliff side), there’s very little difference. The masteries are not a requirement. This is something you really should be asking Anet.
There are two hidden ones in the final instance.
First is to not let the first boss go in a full circle.
Second is to kill one of the white mantle on the wall when they cheer during the fight. You’ll need a ranged attack. One hit worked for me.
Just played it again to get the two hidden achievements and the NPC’s tell you what to do.
If it’s the 1st step (experimental weapon) any kit works. Do not salvage the actual precursor.
Well the event structure is pretty much what many players asked for when they criticized the timers of HoT and how everything was bound to a single meta.

unrealistic crap. what about encounter mechanics? how a ps warrior can do over 20k? how come necro is one of the lowest and still do better than others in raids?
an ele will never do over 35k vs boss. what about dodging, positioning, healing, changing targets, moving, phasing and etc? i’ll cut my veins if a warrior will do 20k dps ina boss raid.
again zis will lead to toxic.
math in the void!
Have you tested the DPS of classes, such as warrior, using the DPS meter in the game that Anet recently added?
