RNG Conspiracy Conundrum

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Azala Yar.7693

One of the things that would help RNG in favor of players is for ArenaNet to get rid of bags. Bags are unaffected in most spots(according to ArenaNet)by Magic Find.

“Working as intended” is another coy way of saying, “It’s working as we want it to.” That doesn’t mean that it’s working in your favor. Seriously guys, this is a game that encourages you to gamble by purchasing lockboxes with real money for a very slim chance of receiving expensive fake items in a fake world.

The in-game economy is directly tied to ArenaNet’s real world income. This game will never have drop rates geared towards players getting the high price tag items they want in game. It’s why the precursor system took so long to incorporate.

I personally would like them to incorporate a mechanic that flagged each account and your chance of getting a precursor would go up incrementally(very slowly)over time so that it would get rid of the outliers in the game. All people deserve to get the item they want without having to find the fastest way to make gold and do it ad nauseam until they get enough money to buy what they want.

For a company that claims to want to do things in a more innovative way than everyone else, they sure employ a very run of the mill rewards system and it’s all because the game economy is tied to their real life coffers. It’s a bummer.

I actually like the bags, good thing about a bag is unless you open it you don’t know if what’s inside the bag is worth more than the unopened bag. Players like to see what drops, with bags you get that bit extra in terms of what was it I got.

Imo drop rates are low so that you don’t gain to much gold too quickly, so if you’re impatient you’re more likely to get gems to trade for gold or just buy gems for the latest limited offer (bear cub). It must work quite well for them, it also keeps the player trading between gold and gems and gems and gold in a lively state.

This game does encourage gambling with some of the items, which is why I don’t usually buy that type of item. I don’t gamble in RL so tend not to in-game either.

I think am gunna need a good massage after farming SW so much lol, everywhere is numb.
Grats to the guys who got one, but for me it seems like an impossible dream, probably been farming up to 3-12hrs a day (what ever I can fit in) and still nothing.

I was looking for one via farming mobs and events, around 14 – 16+ hours a day, even considered maybe I should do something else as I thought I just wasn’t going to be lucky.

But then this morning (Sunday) I finished a small event and there was one in the reward chest. So it’s not impossible although it does seem that way after killing thousands of mobs.

What got me, of all the grinding of mobs, which was extremely boring (in between or when I didn’t feel like doing an event), it actually came out of an event chest.

From Tuesday until now I’ve done at least 31 main events, those at least were good for getting the parts for the armour.

Got

8 human characters (9 when the expansion comes out) 1 of each class.

Doubled up classes are

1 Guardian Norn
1 Engineer Charr
1 Warrior Asura
1 Mesmer Sylvari

Reason for the same classes are;
1) I have all the classes already.
2) Wanted to try the personal story from a different perspective than human.
3) I use different weapons so that they don’t feel too much the same.

Well I’ve purchased 7 armour skins from the store and zero outfits.

If they continue with just outfits then I shall not be buying anymore.

Outfits are a waste of time as you can’t customise them, and changing the limited areas with colour doesn’t really achieve that.

OP, if you are under the zones level, the mobs WILL aggressively aggro onto you. It’s done purposefully to keep players out of zones they aren’t ready for. I took a level 20’ish to Cursed Shore during last Christmas. Mobs would lock on from extreme ranges. Luckily I had a thief escort who plowed the road of all the mobs.

Also Risen Acolytes have a gigantic aggro range regardless of your level, at least half again the range of any other enemy.

Which adds to the fun, if they all had the same range they would be easy to avoid. You can still avoid them though once you have got used to the types of mobs.

Actually Orr is brilliant.

I’ve got 9x 80 and 9 world completions and another 3 characters in the process of levelling.

What I find when levelling, when I get to around 60+ I start to look forward to getting to Orr. I try to leave it to near the end of the levelling process (/world completion), kind of leave the best to last. But it never works as soon as I can start exploring and doing events (not much more to explore after 9 characters) I tend to start going there.

What’s good about Orr is that it’s all one theme not a mix of different ones that try to keep an area interesting. There’s no hearts, hearts mean grind, you don’t have to grind in Orr if you don’t want to.

As for it’s difficult I solo except when doing events Orr’s not difficult just takes a little while to get used to and is noticeable as the style of the game at that point is different to what you have got used to.

Orr doesn’t need changing, it’s the player that needs to adjust to Orr.

That last part is where I think most people appear to get disappointed by the portal stone lottery. It’s random. You have two things really working against you. You can’t appreciably affect your chances of receiving it. And this is a limited access, closed beta where one can assume that most people playing the game will not be invited. I guess it’s like trying to work your butt off to buy a bunch of lottery tickets and not winning. You wonder why so many people, not just you, are disappointed.

Yea i know others are disappointed i just wanted to share my story and vent a little bit because i am very upset.

I’m in the same boat so to speak. I’ve spent at least 50 hours although it likely to be more but not really been keeping an exact account and always base my estimates on the low side. That’s not including the hours spent that day of the patch before the patch was released because was not aware a patch was being released. Started that day around 07:00 GMT.

I wouldn’t say I’m upset about it though I’m usually not that lucky where RNG is concerned anyway. What I’m finding is that I’m completely focused on just that area of the game, not even been bothering to do dailies the last couple of days.

Trouble with being focused in such a way, it starts to become boring rather quickly, I was bored killing the same mobs over and over 2 days ago as I killed so many, hate to think how many I’ve killed since.

I do some of the events which helps keep it a bit interesting but the grinding mobs in between is the pits.

Problem is the more time you invest in such an activity the harder it is to just stop.

Actually the worst bit is when people link in chat the portal and say only been grinding for a few hours. It’s kind of like rubbing salt into the wound.

But you really shouldn’t get upset about it, just laugh it off.

Character with WC done and no skill points

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Azala Yar.7693

If you did world completion then that alt will get the max number of hero points as it’s 400 points for being level 80 then however many skill challenges your char did. Since you already did them all, you will have them done.

Using scrolls at this point will put then in your hero panel and those will be converted into the new Mystic Forge currency.

I have 9 world completions and they still have their spare skill points. So if they’re converted to hero points, can they only be used in the forge? Because it seems like they might be useless to me if that is the case.

Although if it is the case, I guess it’s no great loss as they’re useless as spares anyway.

Might be good if you could use them for something else as well as.

Since you have just as much luck hunting the map for 2 hours as someone who has done it for 10, I think you need to consider doing other things so you don’t burn out. Take a break. Or do other events or dungeons. Come back to it later and try again. There’s still at least 5 more days to hunt.

Invested too much time now, so will have to carry on regardless.

So now paying for non-essential items is considered a grind? Have I read the post right?

I already paid 50 bucks plus tax for the game. Why am I still paying/grinding every time I want some decent/new/change. they are using a f2p model and still charging people.

And don’t give me non-esesential bullcrap. The whole thiing is non essential. Its a game you don’t need any of it.

However, I paid for it and I want that model of an experience out of it. That’s what people expect if they pay for a game.

You paid for the game as it is. You don’t have to buy items from the shop if you don’t want to.

Skins are non essential items, they only change the look of a character, they don’t effect anything else.

As for the currency for altering the look of a piece of armour, they’re common enough, I get them faster than I use them. Got 214 spare at the moment.

Stats, how will the changes effect you?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azala Yar.7693

Azala Yar.7693

If you are like me, you build your characters stats based on the equipment and the stats you get from traits.

With the removal of stats from traits it will mean that up to 50% of my characters equipment will be incorrect for the build.

Also with the increase in stats on equipment it’ll mean equipment will be even more important. So I don’t see the complaints about berserker gear improving, get worse if anything. It’ll also mean a lot of gear that’s generally not desirable will be even less desirable than it is already.

The balance between male and female characters is not there. We have strong female characters, and that’s great, as well as a good support for the LGBTQ community, but how about the male characters? I would love to see some development, a bit of bromance and maybe even a gay couple amongst the different races.

Females: Eir, Zojja, Caithe, Taimi, Marjory, Kasmeer, Rox, Anise, Jenna, Pale Tree, Faolain, Scarlet and Keil.

Males: Rytlock, Logan, Trahearn, Braham, Canach and Evon.

These are the key characters we have now. I may have missed some but yeah…

Does it really matter, even the real world isn’t balanced.

As long as your own characters look ok then I don’t see an issue.

No grind philosophy

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Azala Yar.7693

Of course, farming can FEEL like grinding if the drop rate for the item you want is very low or the costs for something you want are very high.

Farming and grinding amounts to the same thing.

You only do them if you want something from the activity.

Problem is this game tends to push collecting sets of items as an activity, so if someone wants or is compelled to collect then they have no choice.

Drop rates are generally poor but then again this game is heavily into gambling. Just look at trick-or-treat bags, the shadow dyes, even miniature sets, all are really bad odds and are more about gambling rather than buying a product.

Miniature set 1, had 15 required at the start of the offer, but worked it out, for what it would cost for 10 sets (no guarantee I’d get them all) in gems I could buy the 15 with gold and it would cost about the same. So purchased 14 off of the Black lion Market as 1 I got from a sample set (I tried my luck).

Idea: Armor Set Bonus

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azala Yar.7693

Azala Yar.7693

Why does there need to be a bonus? There doesn’t need to be.

All it would do is effect people choices and limit peoples individuality.

Outfits already limit individuality as all you can change is the colour. Bonuses are a good way to get a 100+ people running around in the same armour. So no there shouldn’t be bonuses for wearing a set of armour.

Need legendaries to be legendary

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I really feel that Legendaries need to be more powerful. More stats, some type of specific power to that item( Ex. Thunderfury had 40%ish chance to proc 5 tornadoes that would attack closest targets, drawing a lot of threat), and overall more damage. IMO, a legendary should do more than 5% extra damage and stats.

No, they shouldn’t.

Wrong game. This game isn’t really about chasing better gear, forcing people to grind for better gear to stay competitive.

What frustrates me is the fact that some vistas are super easy to do while others are stupidly designed to be almost impossible to get too. If you want us to be able to do them then my suggestion is to make them easier to access.

Don’t see the point, if you make them all easier than they are already, then you might as well remove them from the game. Reason some are very easy and some not so is that it adds variety.

I have 9 world completions and I can tell you there are no difficult vistas to get to.

If you find them difficult then you’re not used to jumping puzzles, with practice you get better and it becomes easier.

I wouldn’t mind the unidentified dye drop were increased or at least put back into the gathering.

High supply will result in low prices for all dyes even those that don’t cost much now. It may increase unidentified dyes sales as they would be lower as well.

They can’t really do that as it would ruin the dye market.

Just out of sheer curiosity, what effect would ruining the dye market actually have? A few players making gold off dyes cease doing so? Am I missing something?

If unidentified dyes became more common place the prices would drop, with the drop in prices more people would buy unidentified dyes in the hope of getting a dye they could use.

The result will be the dye market would be flooded with dyes nobody wants as the supply increases but the demand doesn’t change.

Drinking potions is a daft idea, not sure you actually meant it quite literally. After all the idea of a wolf or crab drinking a potion is quite ridiculous.

There are plenty of players that don’t find it easy as it is (world content) as I have to res them on occasions. Even die myself on occasions usually due to multiple mobs.

Although I’m against anything that involves better loot. Better loot and gear focused is one of the major failings in WoW imo. One of the things I like about GW2 is its not really gear focused I also hope that they keep characters at level 80.

So any hard mode should not reward better gear. But I don’t think they actually need a hard mode as you can make it more challenging by fighting harder mobs or just more of them.

Silly Request

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azala Yar.7693

Azala Yar.7693

Hi there,

This is a request to improve how rich veins work. Currently, when mining a rich vein, your character will mine 3 times, and then stop, forcing you to restart mining for another 3 hwacks. This is done until the mineral is empty.

Suggestion:
Make our characters mine until the vein is empty. However many whacks that takes.

That is all, I hope this doesn’t turn out to be too hard, but its a minor thing that would allow the game to feel more fleshed out.

Thank you.

Such a minor thing it’s not even worth worrying about. You mine in 3’s as that’s how long the animation runs for, although you can interrupt it midway.

Why armor repairs are still in the game?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azala Yar.7693

Azala Yar.7693

I think what he wants tho is a total removal of the system. That your armor doesn’t break down anymore.

Yeah. The way I see it, this system only make players waste time going to an armor repair every now and then, without actually providing a meaningful “death penalty”.

Wasting your time is the penalty.

And how is that meaningful? Why is wasting players time good? What good does it bring to the game?

The problem is changes just for the sake of convenience actually detract from the game as a whole.

Especially as one change for convenience leads to another and so forth.

What would your RL day be like if you removed all the things that you found inconvenient ? No longer having anything you found inconvenient.

Personally I don’t have an issue with having to repair gear. It’s not a hardship it’s actually very easy to manage.

Next you will be wanting more instant travel, as travelling from A to B is inconvenient.

most of expnesive dyes can be replaced by dyes cost less than 1 gold. What u see on heros panel is not always what u get on ur character.. For example I bought electro pink which was 70 gold it looks just like regular pink dye 50 silver. I bought imperial red which was 70 gold looks just like cherry 50 silver. On hero’s panel they look diff but on my characters they look exactly the same.

On my thief I just use black, how it looks is more to do with the armour skin than the colour itself (I mix armour sets). Some parts look black others look dark grey.

Yes, I get how basic supply and demand works, thank you.

There is nothing stopping ANet looking at the prices on the TP, for certain dyes, and trying to adjust the supply side accordingly and yet they don’t.

That is their responsibility.

The point (once again) is that it is obviously a total supply monopoly, the fake “rarity” is arbitrarily set by the only “supplier” and both its (low) supply and (very high) resulting price have no correlation with the actual effort required to produce it (if any).

I have a problem with that.

I don’t think it makes ANet look as good as they could do.

Nothing that has been said here has, or will, change my mind on that.

What does make them look good (or would do), is making sure that their basic product is well designed, balanced, logical, runs well and is non-exploitable and then producing beautiful armour sets/outfits, minis, toys etc.., which most people (I hope) will happily spend their spare cash on.

As they can clearly see the effort and creativeness that has gone into their design.

As opposed to a colour, for colouring in armour with.

Not to say they can’t, also, sell dyes and look good.

They should just aim to reign-in the top end prices, IMO.

A colour should not cost more than an entire armour skin, period.

It’s a virtual world and market, there is no rarity unless ANet make it that way.

If ANet made it so there was no rare items in-game the market place would be a pretty boring place.

Dye frustration

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Azala Yar.7693

Because it’s not, actually, rare…

IRL, things that are sold as rare are actually rare (or should be) and they are normally relatively expensive to produce.

Whereas, this colour “dye” is no more, or less, rare than any other and none of them are, actually, rare and it costs no more to produce.

Its supposed “rarity” is completely arbitrary (as in, invented by ANet).

So, even though they may not, actually, set the price on the TP – because they have complete control over its supposed “rarity”, they might as well do.

Because, if they wanted to, they could up the supply 100x, or reduce it 100x, whenever they liked.

…and yes, it does have to do with right and wrong.

IMO, there should at least be some correlation between effort put in, in something’s design and the price charged.

When there isn’t, it just looks like something verging on a scam.

Especially when you add in the fact that Black isn’t actually black, when the colour (or lack of colour) black is an already very well established, predetermined concept.

Something is worth what people are prepared to pay for it.

If there is a surplus of anything it tends to be cheap unless it comes from one supply source then it can be controlled.

In the case of the black dye it would suggest that it’s rarer as the price is higher. Being black there will also be a higher demand for it than a lot of other colours. If black was common the price would be a lot less than it is.

Rarity has nothing to do with cost of being produced and doesn’t necessarily mean it will be worth much. If there’s no demand the value will be extremely low.

Its a sought after vanity item. I don’t think you have a right to complain.

These allow people to personalize their toons to a more significant degree.

I have every right to complain, as does everyone.

To put my complaint in context, I am someone who has “invested” a considerable amount of money into this game (relative to the amount of time I’ve been playing it, so far).

So, it’s not like I begrudge ANet a living.

I just draw the line (and giggle, frankly) at one colour (and it is just a colour) being sold to us for 100s of gold (which is, after all, 10s of $/£).

Seems to me, any one colour should be no more than around 20g.

I think a luxury car should be no more than 5000$ because it’s laughable that some car makers ask hundreds of thousands of dollars for their high-end models. As someone who continuously invests a lot of time into work, i think it’d be only fair if these models became available in a price range that everyone can afford.

Oh dear…

Are we really trying to compare a real life luxury car, made of real life materials and with real life high labour, storage, advertising and transportation costs, to a pretend dye (so, essentially, a colour) in a game? ><

OK, let me try to put this in terms you can, perhaps, relate to.

Minis are only 350 gems (so, about £3.50), whereas, one of the “dyes” (colours) is currently about 234g on the TP (so, about £23.40).

Now, admittedly, I don’t know all the ins and outs of designing a miniature animated animal, compared with providing yet another colour, which can then be used to shade in bits of pretend armour, but I can assure you I place far more value on the former.

At it’s core it’s supply and demand.

There are a huge number of colour variants in the game, and there are some very cheap substitutes for certain hues that you can obtain in place of a more expensive one, for example, the midnight dye range is a good substitute for black if you’re happy with tints (which I, personally, actually prefer to just pure black).

When people can’t afford a more expensive product, most settle for a cheaper substitute, which is what I suggest you do here.

This isn’t about me, or my sour grapes, or whatever

I also happen to prefer coloured tints – or just colours – in games.

I am just someone with a very strong sense of fairness, a very strong sense of right and wrong and this system stinks, as far as I’m concerned.

Fair ways of making money are fine – especially in a game which relies on people buying random stuff to function.

As I say, I have paid more than my fair share, so far.

But this?

No.

It feels exploitative and that kind of feeling tends to pollute how people feel about a product, in general.

Seems fair to me. It is supply and demand.

ANet reduced the demand when they made it so all of your characters share the same dye. So they had to reduce the supply as well by removing world drops.

Anyway, there’s a simple answer to a dye costing more than 100g, just don’t buy it.

I have about 84 rare dyes missing from my collection (I do have black and white) I probably don’t even need those other 84 rare dyes. But I’ll still collect them if I find them.

I’d say they removed world drop dyes because they needed to make them not so easy to get hold of.

If you had 5 characters previously you would have had to have 5 of the same dye, 1 for each character. For multiple characters now, you only need 1 of each dye that serves them all.

We need some mode like that! I hardly doubt it would divide community since it should be so hard that its only doable with coordinate people (guild mates, friends etc…)

We need this content!

So you want a hard mode, of course you don’t want better rewards, do you? Because why would you want better rewards, the fact it’s harder would be the reward.

I see hard mode as being the first step towards having an elitist group in the community like there is in WoW.

Why armor repairs are still in the game?

Next time OP will complain why not make we spawn at the death spot.
Seriously ? Why OP make this complain at the first place? That is why there is still an armor fix requirement.

So having redundant and pointless “features” is a good thing? It’s sole purpose now is to be an annoyance, it doesn’t actually have any positive or negative impact on game play.

That’s not true it does have an impact as you gradually get weaker until you fix it.

I have loads of varying boosters in my bank, as I don’t really need them in PvE, does that mean because I don’t see the point of them they should be removed ?

WoW has becomes so easy now (not talking raiding) and some of the reasons are reasons of convenience, games should stop catering to lazy players.

Profession Specific Drops

Players actually use items they get from drops ?

They use the salvaged material.

Then why would you need class specific gear?

Any gear would do as it is now.

No to hard mode, if you want a game like WoW, why not play that.

Dividing the community just leads to a kitten community.

Think I have around 22 instant repair canisters in my bank, they’re probably one of the reasons.

I rarely do, I actually like a mix, getting the same class gear drop all the time will make getting drops, oh so boring.

Please stop creating outfits

I must have about 6 or 7 armour sets from the shop and no outfits. Won’t even consider getting an outfit as you can’t mix and match with them.

Because it makes perfect sense that you could kill a ginormous undead dragon alone.

Actually you are not alone, you have NPCs with you. So it would make just as much sense solo.

Why is Double Daily Fractal still happening?

I know its a topic that keeps coming up, but there is no reason double daily fractal should be coded anymore. I don’t mind doing a fractal for my daily, but for Kitten sake we don’t need to be required to do both a fractal and level based fractal for a daily
(Especially a high level one) cut specific levels fractal and just leave the daily fractal please.

Because you have other dailies you can complete. You arent forced to do dailies, and you certainly arent forced to do fractals which you may or may not even be properly geared for.

It’s a non-issue for the majority, so it aint being changed. If you dont like it, just search custom arenas for open arenas advertising slackerpvp to finish your daily. Others do.

You get 10 achievement points for the completion daily, so why wouldn’t you want to do them ?

If you don’t do fractals and you get two on the same day then you can only complete 2 dailies as you won’t get the completion one either.

So yeah ANet, it really does need altering, the daily fractal should be grouped with the other fractal options so only one fractal may end up as a daily.

It’s been happening for four months now, so I can only assume it is working as intended, unfortunately. Well, not that it’s troubling me overmuch anymore.

Well 4 months or longer it still needs to be altered. Not sure it is working as intended, looks more like an oversight to me.

Could You Play ONE Class Only?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

I originally started with the intent to just play one, then for awhile got interested in crafting so started more.

Got 8x 80’s now and some in the pipe-line.

7 of those (got 8 but one isn’t 80 yet) are made so they look the same (all human) reason for that is multiple characters based on race can lead to some not being used if you’re not keen on a race.

So with them looking the same (a race you like) the only thing different is class and the name. So it just a case of which class do I fancy using today.

Works for me.

Got to the last part and of the personal story and found out it’s a kitten group ending.

Really ANet what was the thinking behind that ?

So looks like I won’t get to kill the dragon after all.
